  1. Aw you've ruined the surprise - we were gonna chip in and get it you for Xmas ;-p That is interesting - Adele would be a request for the future! On that note what is 21, rolling in the deep, someone like you and set fire to the rain at these days? Oh and skyfall? Many thanks ☺☺
  2. Some depressing album figures. Emeli could stay no1 at this rate. Worries about an album not selling 1mil this year? How about 700k? ;-( I don't see 1D selling a mil of their new 1 this year, have either of their albums prior even sold that yet? Don't see Eminem coming near the top - look at that drop off this week and don't even get me started on gaga's decline... Buble always sells frighteningly well in the Xmas run up but his new album hasn't exactly set the world alight (although decent sales and not his normal Q4 release) and his Xmas album is a couple of years out and already had the deluxe cash in so not sure it'll do that much anyway. Although there's a chilling thought - an all Buble album top2 :o
  3. not to be ungrateful but any approximations for Marry the night and lovegame? thought mtn was over 200k anyway...
  4. thanks vid, can rely on you with the sales data! I haven't really been reading the sales over the summer so I know they've probably been dire for weeks. I forgot that Rihanna's all time low was also such a low sales week overall. Last week was even lower still however, and is only slightly higher than that week in '96 nearly 900 weeks ago so you'd think MW may have mentioned. I appreciate the end of summer is always a bad time and inevitably things like Xmas will increase sales significantly as always but it is a downward spiral at the moment and unless download albums can finally adequately pick up the slack we are heading for an all time low (well since 1994 when they started counting properly at least). I would also say in general there have been so few good albums out this year - I thought this last year but it seems even worse - i'm probably just getting old.. :arrr:
  5. I was appalled to see just how low album sales were this week at just 1.29mil for the whole market. I don't remember ever seeing them so low but MW failed to mention it particularly. Does anyone know if they've been lower? Did some digging and found the following from last year but short of reading every MW report since not sure how to find out - anyone have a list of the lowest and know if this is the worst? "Overall album sales are 27.62% down week-on-week at 1,446,218 - that is 23.19% below same week 2011 sales of 1,882,878, and lower than in any of the 640 previous weeks that have elapsed in the 21st century" (Excerpt from MW 16/04/12) Obviously a quiet time of year but should we expect lower, or a recovery? Answers on a postcard!
  6. Sad but true! Would be a nice list though to see how many the big sellers shifted on cd appallingly low these days for most outside the above I'm sure!
  7. THanks for posting and vc for dating. Worth noting that Rolling in the deep had physicals too as well as a few others on the list. Was sold out everywhere so could add a good few thousand. Don't think someone like you had a physical though? Take That's rule the world will have a fair few physicals too and must be getting close and obviously james arthur. Cheryl Cole clearly sold 60k+ physical too as we know she's a million seller. Should add 10-15k to I gotta feeling and edge Bad Romance closer to the million too! Generally the older hits will be more affected by physical sales suppose chasing cars had one too?
  8. How does the Adele figure 'date' the list from your figures vc? Sorry I didnt see it ;-(
  9. Bow to my superior predictive powers! Lol didn't even remember what I said originally, had to go back and check. It's weird she's beaten a Beatles record which given their cultural impact is sort of awful but at least not Adele. Surely it'll dip in and out at least a couple of weeks with widepread price cut, I wonder if Adele will re-enter when she's finally knocked down to a fiver! That or '25' is released

Great list. Some good updates on some old rihanna and gaga hits there, could allow an average to be worked out for trickle sales though the +/- 5k probably makes that problematic. Bad Romance now at 990k wow close!
  11. Could anyone append some sales estimates or last known (e.g. vidcapper or his magic spreadsheet?)? We know titanium over the mil and sure sexy chick is over 600k and who's that chick well over 500k. The taped rai one still charting so hopefully there'd be an up to date figure too ;-)

I am somewhat shocked about the Edinburgh situation. Firstly I didn't realise they even had 5 but shutting them all is kind of curious. The whole thing is quite confusing though, it seems the closures are biaised towards the out of town shopping centres which are felt to have poached business away from the old town centres and were originally conceived in part as a solution to the high rents of town centres for companies, so you'd think they may be the more profitable sites. Also note all the "fort" location closures, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Birmingham wonder if its a deal with that particular landlord that s seeing them all shut or if being relatively new they are Universal sites they are offloading. Sad to see Glasgow Fort go, really big and great sound system. Borders shut there a few years ago too, becoming less and less reasons to go. Both the City Centre are good so nice they are staying if surprising though Glasgows shopping district can totally support it. (2nd only to London in the UK). Braehead I'll never see the love for and not overwhelmed by the silverburn store either though I will miss it when I'm there for other things I see East Kilbride (another Glasgow OOT really) is keeping theirs though hurrah! Seems the few remaining mid size Scottish towns that have one are losing it though (Kirkcaldy, Dumfries and Falkirk)

Fantastic! Tried to do this myself once lasted about 6 weeks ;-( thanks vc and the promise of updates and working back is very exciting! We should start an appreciation fund ;-p
  14. So Rihanna has a 3rd song spend 14 weeks top 10 (Diamonds) and a few other hits in double figures. Are there other artists who can match these top10 runs in length and quantity?
  15. And 35k for morning glory in the same time. Wonder if anyone else would overtake it anytime soon? Wonder if the small no. For queen is just to do with rounding - rounded up b4, rounded down now so appears less

Small bump - noting that Emeli has very confidently cleared the million and is closing on double the sales of her nearest competitor this year. However we still have a week left - where will her sales finish and will anyone else cross the million? I'm going to say no and maybe she'll scrape 1.4mil!
  17. Thought this was kind of exciting but I guess no one cares! :-o
  18. Small bump here for 2012 - Rihanna sets another record this year- she has now surpassed Madonna as the female artist with the most weeks on the singles chart with a TOTAL OF 776! she's now in the all time top 5 but will have to almost double her tally to take no1!
  19. So white Xmas has sold more than fony but isn't a million seller? Interesting wonder what it does on downloads. Was of The impression a lot of its sales were before there WAS a singles chart. Merry Xmas all!
  20. I like this. Thanks for doing. I get what people are saying about the methodologies possibly being different between the two lists and figures being revised due to further info unearthed or varying opinions over the years but it does still give some nice general trends and the way some things like eye of the tiger and wonderwall still sell is pretty amazing! May actually be nice to see the list reordered in terms of biggest tks smallest increases if possible..
  21. May for all the reasons already stated. She will stay no1 ytd as well god help us all

Yet their whole new strategy was "impulse buy electronics" which I found the notion of ridiculous. Who has spare £400 quid kicking about to buy an iPad or smart phone on "impulse"! However, I have purchased a phone and tablet for them and their prices are much of a muchness with other shops for these. However they have reduced their CD shelf space (the a-z) as a result in my locals and (oddly) reduced their blue-rays a lot. If you believe their earlier announcements this year it was the electronics which they were actually doing quite well with but I find with both online and the shops they are often poorly stocked vs other retailers which has led to me buying elsewhere and they never seem to know when more will arrive (vs amazon who always estimate and email with updates). Certainly seen some ads for the electronics (e.g. in "stuff" magazine, maybe it's more targeted)

Could see RiRi doing a "what's my name" with this when the airplay picks up and video. Britney and will possible depends if they lose steam in the next week. I think Bruno Mars is over and gangnam a rather outside chance too

    This! Sounds good!
  25. Can see the logic of this, and probably would have upgraded my prediction if had seen the pop bars. II've more been looking at what the established hits have been selling in the top5 in thinking about it. No doubt will tail off significantly as the week progresses but impressive lead anyone know what the biggest lead at iTunes no1 was?
