Zavvi in Administration //
That is like my nightmare! I know physical singles are in a cycle of ever decreasing returns (sell less, so stocked less, so sell less, so stocked less ) except X-factor ones!) but i want itunes monopoly eroded a bit, if we must lose them. Other download sites seem to be gaining in consumer awareness, but in terms of purchasing i don't know how itunes market share is changing (does anyone have figures?) This is Zavvi's problem- most things seem to cost a few £s more than HMV and student discount only counts on non-discounted items (ie. why bother?) rather than HMV where it covers everything. For me, this makes HMV prices quite competitive, often even vs. online. Remember a good few years ago when it was the other way though? Virgin used to be the decent shop and HMV were always like £16 for any CD! Matt, i'm really sorry you're going through this, it can't be fun not knowing whats happening and having to look elsewhere in the current financial weather. Any news for you yet? However, this being an open forum people are going to say what they like some of which might seem ignorant, but it is merely directed at the company (who like any other have "made mistakes" and pissed people off) so i'd say try not to take it personally- your view as an employee (and music fan- must make the job more fun) will always differ to that of a consumer with no reason for loyalty. Good luck with it all anyway :) Baracca, do you work for Play? you've namechecked more times than i care to count- talking of consumerist principles and not getting ripped off, check the prices of CDs on other websites from time to time! Play are good but they ain't always so cheap on everything in comparison! Personally sad if Zavvi goes, i think they need to revise their pricing and store sizes, layouts, stock etc. but its always been HMV vs. Zavvi on high st and without a real competitor to HMV this can only be worse for the consumer

Girls Aloud - The Loving Kind: predict
Thanks for making my points for me again :D X-factor is finished now so of course TLK won't be as big as the promise, they don't have the weekly exposure and performance platform to bolster them up. Also, i think TLK will be a big hit as you'd see if you'd read back to my original predicition. I think its a bit early to say "likely to miss top10" - no way surely! I am not saying the only reason they've sold any records is XF- but they consistently sell less than they are right now so logically XF is the thing which has given them the boost (directly and indirectly) as we have witnessed this time and again for acts on the show for just a week, never mind every week as the media's new favourite judge. OOC is typically good for them but its not their best work and the sound hasn't changed so its not quality or a new direction, not leaving many other options to explain such a sudden spike- think of Occam's razor Bertie! Whatever the reason, it is a good thing but may not last. Its shifted some serious albums this Xmas and given them their biggest selling (proper) single by miles :)

Girls Aloud - The Loving Kind: predict
Just because a song is still in the top 20 it must have been no1 not because it was on Xfactor? There is no logic in your argument You can't prove anything either way. None of their other songs have been that successful (other than their previous talent show involvement)- wouldn't that suggest XF/Cheryl have something to do with it? It's a good thing though, it's giving them a real boost in popularity. Have already commented where i think TLK will land, so sticking by it (whatever the reasons may be) The people who put top100 or wouldn't chart are wrong already!

Best Selling Albums of the 21st century?
The OCC regarded the two versions as separate due to the amount of extra material on the deluxe ed. Since then the rules have changed so if it was released now it would have been counted as the same, but the rules aren't applied retrospectively (not very important for other old albums with more than one version at the moment though) B)--> QUOTE(Dave B @ Dec 22 2008, 10:16 PM) 2354404[/snapback]I'll post an update of the decade chart from my own data in January. I need to get the end of year charts finalised first, then I'll have a look at the decade chart with sales up to the end of 2008. That would be amazing Dave, thanks! :D

No Can Do [Single Thread]
I'll download this next week when the proper release was supposed to be. What the hell with putting this up early and not telling?! Are they trying to f*** things up even further with this era? That and moving the CD date- even when they make up their minds and change it they can't bloody stick to anything, wtf is up with the management/record company?! Thanks for the track listing :)

No Can Do [Single Thread]
ah, itunes so often more expensive but everyone with an ipod uses it anyway... will check this out- is it pre-order as someone asked about this in another thread?

No Can Do [Single Thread]
I feel the same, as probably shown by my previous rants on this thread (and everywhere else ) I feel frustrated coz i don't know what they did wrong, and i think you summed up what the change era did very well too! Like OT, this will prob be a hardcore fan favourite in years to come, but the masses may never love it the way they'll love their next massive electro album! Also speaking lots of sense! And this despite the fact i like Girls!

As an album track cherrypick- the single version isn't released until the 22/12 Sales Update for Girls: 66 70 Sugababes Girls 142740 From top 2008 singles thread this week (ie. sales up to 13/12/08) could one of the lovely, lovely mods update the sales, chart run (is a few weeks behind i think?) and please please add NCD sales and (bracketed) chart positions (its what we did with Mutya)- i've only been asking a week and a half! (see my earlier posts)

4th Single Confirmed
i think from memory that even with adding Footprints downloads in, she still would've fell just short :o Problem is, they need to select which track will be linked to the physical single (chart rules). best thing to do (which Leona didn't i believe) is to create an e-bundle so people download the tracks together. I mean, you can't stop album cherrypicks but at least someone downloading the single won't end up casting sales of the less popular track adrift, if thats the one they like. Problem is, Double A-sides were always supposed to be equal, but since 1 track for d/l purposes must now be selected as the lead it kind of defeats their purpose- which is a shame as i like them! ^_^

C&S TOP 95 IN WED MIDWEEKS Looks like a bit of a fall again

No Can Do [Single Thread]
Don't worry, i'm sure they'll think of something  A little premature to say they're all washed up when this single hasn't even bombed yet (not released for a couple of weeks) and their last was top 3 and still charting. It is difficult to see the prob though- NCD is a good song and they've done a good job with it but you are correct in that there seems to be apathy surrounding them at the moment, but this isn't the first time for them and sure they can re-engender the public's interest. Coversely, GA seem to be irrationally loved whereas before they garnered good reviews and sold consistently, but despite being media/advertising darlings, had yet to make it huge. They seem to be on the cusp of it now. Who knows why? Their latest album is certainly good but not their finest (they've yet to make a duff one), and the sound is much the same as before. My conclusion is the Cheryl Cole factor (sorry to use the same name as that $h!t show)- from all her XF and hubby-cheating exposure the public has totally fallen in love with her, someone is finally commanding more column inches than Posh. How long before the bubble bursts though? Personally, i think there is room for 2 Girl groups in the UK. Both have defied the odds in lasting so long and performing so consistently and they wouldn't be the same without each other, so long may it continue! (There may even be room for 3 i'm thinking, as the Saturdays are also growing on me ) Oh, and since its the point of the thread NCD TOP 100 IN WED MIDWEEKS! :D

good to know, thanks Sinny though this would probably be better to post in the airplay thread as it isn't pertaining to the singles chart

Breaking News: EUK to be wound down
thats a shame, i like your entertainment section! Not as cheap as Asda, though sometimes you do get good bargains if you have a good look. I remember buying Katy Perry's album on release week in Sainsburys for £6.97. I took it up to the counter and when the shop assistant rang it through she was like "only £6.97?!" i said "yeah thats why i'm buying it!" and she was saying she would buy a copy before it sold out as it prob would quickly at that price (was cheaper than anywhere else for sure that week)/ Also had a couple of good game buys that were cheaper than anywhere by £5-10 for certain random titles. Surely someone will need to step in and fill this gap?

The Top 40 Before Downloads Alone 16th Dec 2008

UK's Fastest Million Selling Albums
As if you didn't know that already Jez! :P if only they could command those kind of sales now- how long will DOYS take to reach 1m do you think (if at all)? (i bought it after your recommendation and hearing Outta Time btw, its pretty good- very typical of their earlier stuff, but there are some new twists IMHO)
