  1. As a huge GA fan you are going to want to justify that. i understand, and i personally wish the bloody thing had never been released! but calling me stupid doesn't make it untrue, sorry berty and please refrain from being rude. I have heard people make excuses for the other artists on this list, and it is only fans who do so. They don't want the dream to end. There is no official prize for this so it doesn't really matter to anyone but them, but they are sadly still mistaken about these extenuating circumstances at times. Maybe it shouldn't count, but the video production makes this difficult to justify. Also could you quote a source for "the media" please? I've never read this sentence anywhere other than on GA fan run sites, which obviously are not the most impartial It has been established for many years that the top75 is the official chart, while the top200 is compiled only for industry purposes. However, this is confused by the fact the official chart show is only a top40 and the OCC (the authority on such things) now choose to publish a top100 on their site while only allowing others to still publish the official top75! But, for now at least the top75 is considered canon. Any chart mods who wish to second this please post away :)
  2. They had a video which was released and promoted the song (was played on music channels, not just ads for the film). By six weeks logic, it counts. Splitting hairs much Jon? Every song would have an excuse of some kind...
  3. I think the prevalence of d/l is clearly higher among the young. I mean, Oasis as recent example. They are an established band, been going 15+ years, so most of their fanbase are now in their 30s, or certainly over that 25 line (its the line the XF uses, so why not ). They are physical no1 last week, yet had little download presence, as shown by their lack of presence on the itunes store. Sadly, physicals are less and less supported by retailers and record companies now, and therefore purchased less by consumers, so a physical no1 cannot even guarantee a top10 any longer. Oasis and Madonna should have released 2 CDs as usual, but this has all but ceased in the last 3-4 months (has anyone else noticed?) even for the huge physical sellers (apparently record company policy now). This could have carried Oasis just into top10 as i think most of their fans are hardcore and would automatically buy both. Only recent 2CD release i've noticed was Christian Falk feat. Robyn- there was a 2-track for about £1.99 and a maxi remix CD with about 6 tracks for about £2.99. Anyone spot any others? Ps- love you calling Alesha "that washing up song"! She is prob over 25 herself!
  4. I agree re: album/B-side tracks, and the whole situation with double-A sides. By this logic, Leona has a protected run of 5, but GA, Kylie (both had a video) and Madonna (had a physical) have their runs broken
  5. Well it charted on the singles chart, so by definition yes, but really that is the $64,000 question and applies similarly to other artists. See my previous post for more!
  6. Well, Madonna had a physical. But she didn't have a video i believe (too busy touring). Whereas Kylie had no physical and only had a video a week or two after the song's release when it was too late and radio had already dumped it. Girls Aloud had the video (and therefore the videoplay) but i'm not sure if it got much radio play as i don't think it was playlisted. It didn't have an official physical or digital single either, merely an album cherrypick. However, Rihanna's disturbia was in the same situation- no physical release or e-single, but had a video made to promote it and was downloaded in droves from the album as a cherrypick, as a result. Should this mean we don't count Rihanna's top10 with Disturbia as part of a run? I have a feeling most fans want to include these grey areas when they are a success like disturbia, but not when they're not like St Trinian's and The One
  7. I know Jark, it's sad. I know what you mean about EHB. I'm glad i'm not the only one to think it's brilliant, but it doesn't feel like a single somehow, rather one of those excellent album tracks you discover when you bought the album for another song or something. I can see Sunday Rain increasingly as a single, and i think the video would be really cool for Spring ("standing on a platform, waiting for the train!" Girls all standing in big coats, leaves blowing by, etc.)
  8. I'm outta time, if it doesn't climb has ended a 14-year run of 22 top 10 hits for Oasis. Also, with the download era, this title can actually be ruined by an artist's own success. Girls Aloud have their run broken by St. Trinian's which charted on download as have Westlife from an album track similarly. Even Leona although recent, has had her run spoiled by album/B-side downloads and Double A-side issues. There's really no-one with a run left if Boyzone croak it this weekend... :(

GA's greatest hits and Amy Winehouse Back to Black were purchased by more people last week. I just find that so unbelievable no matter the explanations given, the album's not been out 2 months yet, Girls is still charting ok and No Can Do is starting to get good airplay, video play, and they have performed it live on a big teatime slot on national TV. What are they supposed to do, give the album away? Hopefully NCD sees this rise into the top75 again in the next couple of weeks coz even the lower end has much bigger sales at this time of year and they desperately need that. And everyone purchase the NCD e-bundle and physical, it's a great song and the number of people reading this thread can certainly make a difference at the lower end of the chart. And buy Catfights too those who haven't already, as most fans on here have said it may not sound commercial but it is a great album and you are bound to love it if you've like the babes in the past ;)
  10. you speak a lot of sense here, about the loss of steam on change, perception of Girls etc. The problem i have is that Girls is actually still charting quite well and has quite good sales, but the album isn't. Girls seems to be get a lot of casual buyers (its now71 download is more popular than the single/album one for example) but has ostricised many fans who would buy their album and not just one song they liked. It is a good album but has less obvious singles and a less commercial sound. The quality is great overall but there aren't the same hit-you-in-the-face blinder singles as their earlier work. No can do is catchy though, i hope it does well. I don't think all is lost unless they completely change like you say, but i do think they need a rethink to return to prominence (if things don't pick up soon)

  16. verbal violence! Loving the drama
  17. i don't think it's fair to say it's a flop until it's actually released? whether or not it seems likely at this point, it is merely speculation

at the end of the day, you are consumers who are not receiving a service you paid for, therefore you are entitled to a refund, not constantly being given vague assurances and being told to be patient and made to feel irksome for asking for updates, this has been dragging on weeks, you should at least be given the option of a refund now. That said, it is a shame, i really liked the idea of chartsplus and will subscribe when i can afford it (assuming it returns in something like its previous form)
  19. it is quite surprising, isn't it? like the new banner Bert, looks very HQ!
  20. you should give it a try  (j/k)
  21. Anyone noticed they're using "love is the key" on the add for the GA show on ITV? You'd think they may use TLK as it's the next single, but i think LITK suits the ad better, but perhaps if it's the most popular choice they are starting to warm it up very slightly for third single end of march/april?
  22. not overly chuffed. Charity singles are usually naff, and i think the Gavin and Stacey tie in sounds rubbish, it's a song ffs not a tv show! Wonder what she'd cover, i may be the only person in the world who liked Walk this Way last time... Love can Build a Bridge was kind of an unknown cover wasn't it, so maybe she will cover something little known like someone mentioned above
  23. Meaning? What does it say in your opinion?
  24. Getting harder... a bit. Goodbye Hanging on a Star!
