Yeah I was sure MJ had the albums but not singles but admittedly couldn't be Arsed checking. Since John Lennon was a Beatle, is there any other artists alive or dead who have actually done it?

Who were the undead ones? Did MJ do it?

On that same note aren't she and the Beatles the only acts in the UK chart to hold 2 positions in both the album and singles chart top 5 simultaneously (which I think she did for a few weeks including the albums top2).

Do you think RITD will become the biggest selling digital song ever in the states? Last I looked it wasn't too far off and well over 200k again last week is phenomenal. It hasn't been mentioned by MW or OCC but SLY must be biggest selling UK download and biggest selling digital only single ever
  5. Good list VC, could possibly be displayed in a more visually appealing way I guess to increase interest (e.g. graphs on your blueyonder, or all the various thresholds together just for each week to date could be added by you each week of 2012. Interesting and I appreciate, just trying to be constructive due to your desire for comments! I'd like to see the albums too - I think there's more concern about that being that the perception is they are failing and are worth higher revenue, singles are kind of looking after themselves at the moment

Realised another - fastest female album to sell 2million copies and 2nd overall (joint with Dido): Fastest selling albums to 2m sales: 1. Robson & Jerome (48 days) 2. Dido / Adele (87 days) 3. Beatles - 1 (97 days) In terms of top female by total career weeks at no1 in the albums, Madonna is still ahead with 29 (vs. Adele's 21)
  7. Another platinum album from the Minogue. All the Lovers was a really great lead and picked up loads of support but as above I remember thinking at the time though these were her best sales in ages even combined I don't think she'd have seriously challenged for no1. Another no2 would have been fun though and she was 2 in the mids all week shame she slipped. I think here singles no1 days may be behind her now, it was a really strong track and with the ever increasing numbers in the singles market it's becoming harder and harder for fanbase acts to grab no1s even with their leads, on top of that Kylie might be the biggest physical seller left but even with a triple physical she couldn't do it and physicals have since dwindled further, with some record companies reducing to single format or none at all even in established artists. I was also disappointed she couldn't score another top10 off the album, get outta my way was a really strong track (although textbook Kylie) and Better Than Today really grew on me. When you consider her past incredible consecutive top10 runs, its especially sad though those days seem to be gone for all artists now. Hopefully she continues with the platinum albums though. As the album market weakens its an uphill struggle
  8. thanks anyway, will see when they come out but not sure if they'll just miss it this year
  9. What were TTs other old album sales like? I have to imagine Beautiful World and circus weren't too far off making this list... Any figures/to dates at all Gezza?
  10. I have a total of 4,475,000 to end 2008, plus 248,500 for 2009, plus your 246,200 this decade would make 4,969,000, which I think is the revised down total? Still going to hit 5mil this year which considering what their previous GH set sold is just insane. Adele may have a hard time chasing that one down...
  11. Already learning things id have thought I already knew! Thanks Gezza ;)

Most total weeks at no1 in the album chart by a female act too (total 21) - realised I hadn't mentioned that technically before!

;-) I know normally I'd see the logic of it being in the artist forum, but she's won so many it sort of breaks the rules (as she has about every album record going it feels!)

I think she'll have biggest selling non top 10 single too before too long, with SFTTR. Did it make no1 in America too?! What was the last British artist or artist to have 3 no1s in a row (and off the same album) there? Wow Ps I know these are all Adele related but they are chart records which i why I think they belong in Chart Chat rather than the artist forum where someone interested in chart records won't see them

I was thinking that with Adele breaking so many records of late it may be worth trying to collect them all in one place to further underline her amazingness. I'll put a few I remember down if anyone knows any more feel free to chip in. Singles Biggest selling song by UK female ever (Someone Like you, I think this has now unsold Alexandra Burkes Hallelujah to take this) Biggest selling digital track of all time, biggest selling digital only single of all time (Someone like you, appears to have overtaken I Gotta Feeling which still held the record up to now I think) Albums Biggest Selling Studio Album by Female Artist Ever (Possibly Biggest Selling Album too now if overtaken The Immaculate Collection) 21 Biggest Selling Album in a Calendar Year Ever 21 Most weeks over 100k sales in a row ever (11, 12 non consecutive?) Most weeks over 20k in a row ever 52 Fastest Female Album to sell 2m (joint with Dido) [Fastest selling albums to 2m sales: 1. Robson & Jerome (48 days) 2. Dido / Adele (87 days) 3. Beatles - 1 (97 days)] Most consecutive weeks at no1 for a female artist 21 Most weeks at no1 by a female album ever 21 Most weeks at no1 by a solo artist album ever 21 Most Consecutive Top 10 weeks (ever, by female? Dunno this one) Tonnes of American stuff...
  16. Was that Madge? Intrigued now...
  17. Just a quick bump for this previous discussion (see Rihanna thread) ;-)
  18. And she's done it again! Rihanna now sets an all time record for most weeks ever on the singles chart in a calendar year, spending an incredible 202 weeks on the top75 in 2011. Occurring only 2 years after GaGa set a new record with 156/157 (depending on source), can this even be bested? Also occurring in a year where it was announced she's sold over 12mil singles overall which should currently place her in the top 5 of all time for this and close to the top 5 for the most weeks on the chart ever (only woman ahead on both counts is Madonna). Break down of hits is as follows for this year: Unfaithful 2 weeks Only Girl 32 weeks What's my Name 21 weeks (feat Drake) S&M 31 weeks California King Bed 16 weeks Man Down 7 weeks Cheers 11 weeks We Found Love 12 weeks (feat Calvin Harris) Talk That Talk 2 weeks (feat Jay Z) You Da One 5 weeks Where Have you Been 1 week As featured artist David Guetta Who's that Chick? 25 weeks Nikki Minaj Fly 12 weeks Eminem Love the Way You Lie 17 weeks Coldplay Princess of China 2 weeks Drake Take Care 6 weeks
  19. Thanks ;-)
  20. Hey VC thanks for the above. I've worked these figures out myself. I just wondered from your own opinion and statistical superiority if you felt it was likely or not. If Bruno s sales increase week on week (as most things do at this time of year) it didn't seem impossible he could overtake. Also the boob has stupid high sales is registering huge increases and certainly has taken it over 200k previous xmases. My feeling is 19 will stay ahead but may be run close to the wire... Seems from the above you think she'll stay ahead too! What do you see Buble and Bruno finishing on? Also the figure I was asking for was 19s sales this week if you have an estimate (pre/post OZAP is fine!)
  21. Hey VC do you think Adele is likely to hold the top2 this year? Slightly irked by the thought of Bubles insane sales or Bruno Mars Platinum edition sailing past 19, as its trickled down the chart somewhat. What did it sell this week?
  22. Thank you, you will be missed. Hope you still Pop by for a natter (and the odd correction maybe? )

Great Zeus thanks for this, at least they seem to be listening to you and issuing some sort of reasonable response

I think TTs Rule the World has a decent shot. It's now well. Over 800k (I think, vidcapper?) And sells very consistently. Gets airplay and used on XF montages etc all the time and TT are still huge so don't see that going away. You've got to think Sailing (Rod Stewart) and Especially for You (Kylie and Jason) are making it soon if not already the mystery missing two... Also pretty sure Adele will become the biggest selling single by UK solo female in the next few weeks
  25. Dunno if anyone said yet but Avril Lavigne should be due. Also, as someone mentioned above Muse could be cool
