  1. This may say more about buzzjack than the albums in the selection tbh. They are all brill. This is narrowly my favourite (which was the question) but not necessarily the [best/b]
  2. Whats the dealio with all these example comments? I've heard the song, its quite good but its not like he was massive last time. Not saying it won't do well but why do so many people seem to be certain its gonna be massive/no1?
  3. Hey just checking the list at the front, some sales definitely need updating. The remix is over 100k in the UK and telephone is 600k now I believe .also isn't pf past 6mil in the us? I could go on. Sorry for the ramble, great 2c btw sales up to date. Amazing anyway! ;-)
  4. Excellent. Agree with all above!

ok. according to this site fight for this love has only sold 2k in the UK this year and hasn't sold a copy since 7/2/11 - complete sales my ass! something fishy

i wonder if these sales are complete. Apparently "Alejandro" has only sold 200 odd copies this whole year in Britain. And something like "About you Now" by Sugababes hasnt sold a single copy. Seems fishy. I wonder if they only get sales for the top100 and their "complete" totals are actually just the sum of all a songs top100 itunes weeks. Looks eerily accurate for some of the newer stuff though vidcapper do you have any accurate estimates to compare/back this theory up?

Different catalogue number = different release Thems the rules!
  8. Great list, cheers as everyone asking about it this week. So a few 4+ weekers and 6 appears to be the joint record. Wonder if adele can this week, hope so. Nice to see the babes there twice ;-)
  9. Claire mag pretty decent album imho. Only problem is she doesn't really vary the pace at all, and the songs are different but very like each other if that makes sense. She also sounds like bits of 12other people (annie lennox, tracey chapman, shakespeares sister, shakira, florence, roisin murphy...) which is sort of a complement!
  10. And in fact over 200k all those weeks. Impressive considering the drop in physicals then and they werent counting downloads yet. Thanks :D
  11. Rihanna had a week over 100k on 7th nov 2010 with only girl too I think. Week she was no1! 137k from memory. Nice list. When's the last time someone managed 100k 4 weeks in a row? Not even leona did by the looks
  12. So a star is for cd, and dagger for vinyl. So the list in general refers to download release dates then? And some songs like britney are listed twice for the d/l and physical respectively. The only thing is, if a song is listed as a download release, its not clear from its 1st entry if there is a later physical or it is just download only. We could almost do with another symbol to indicate this. So next to britneys download there'd be a $ sign or something to say "there is a physical but its not released to later", if that makes sense? Thanks for clearing that up though ;-)
  13. whats the significance of the stars* and crosses/daggers again? doesnt seem to say. thanks!
  14. i seem to remember a bit of excitement one week in the last couple of years where there was like 7 new top 10 entries, though i seem to remember MW remarking these werent sequential (and so not quite what this thread wants). Anyone remember? Unless i'm confusing the week the top7 sold 50k+, as that's somewhat of a rarity too
  15. funny, i can hear new pollution but can't think of loser right now
  16. is little boots really releasing this year? and kate bush?! i think everyone has already mentioned every female star and their granny so that'll do me :P
  17. It would appear rihanna doesn't get the benefit of love the way you lie which is a shame. Worse for katie perry though- she misses what must be around 800k from her timbo and 3oh3 collabs. However, if this is true beyonce sold over half a mil without telephone! With no album since 2008 and i dont think any singles last year? Wow great cherrypicks! Should be included though, very unfair. Think they normally are in terms of total sales (guiness/virgin/occ)? Note the beatles dont make the singles list despite selling about 280k in 1st 5 days from memory
  18. I really think the number of million sellers will increase at a much faster rate than previously, over say the next 5 years (or less) due to these perennials which, as download sales increase in general, seem to only increase their sales rate and edge ever closer to the 1 mil. Anyone any idea what's close or some educated guesses? Thanks for this thread VC, and all your work every week it really is a joy to have access to these (rather accurate) sales estimates. looking forward to the 200!

Regarding the "returning to #1" situation, Frankie Laine's "I Believe" had 3 spells in the 50s (and actually holds the record for most weeks at #1), but i think its the only one (though a few have managed 2 spells including the BEPs twice in rapid succession bizarrely)
  20. just singles then? Thanks for posting Mikey, though don't take this the wrong way but i miss Dave's cheerful humour! Another no1 that looked like another no2 for Rihanna (a la "Only Girl"). I think after the travesty of love the way you lie missing the top spot the universe has decided Rihanna has suffered enough! 5 #1s will now puts her ahead of GaGa, JLS, Leona etc again which seems fair enough! I wonder if she'll continue on and break through the "magic 7"
  21. bump any updates to this now we have end of year top100s etc?

Thanks for the pop bars sabrina! Like them this way :)
  23. If he is, it wouldn't be the 1st time depending on who you believe! :naughty:
  24. "I've never said he did have a huge fanbase". You seem to have misunderstood - my comments weren't directed at you. Its very easy to say he has some sort of fanbase, that's the kind of statement no one could really argue with but it doesn't mean he has a significant one. And having 2 no1s does not "prove" fanbase- it proves people bought the songs and says nothing of motivation in doing so. Where did this fanbase disappear to for the other tracks I wonder? And in terms of my comparison, I wouldn't say the sats have a huge fanbase either (no did I in the 1st place). Also, rather foolish to think BJ "means nothing". Of course it means something although does not conclusively prove anything. Any scientific approach would look at sample groups when attempting to prove or disprove a hypothesis- BJ could be one such sample group. Oh, and Taio Cruz isn't pop? Come on!
  25. I think I'm on the Song, not Taio side of this debate. Party Girl was good and showed a new side to McFly but I think Shine a Light is a bit safer and non offensive. Not saying Taio doesn't add to the song, just that people aren't neccessarily buying it primarily on his name. Also, comparing the 2 videos, its a brave heterosexual man who buys party girl with THAT video! I don't think Taio has a large hardcore fanbase tbh, I mean he's literally re-released a studio album with nearly every hit he's ever had and a huge new no1 on it and had almost no impact. Compared to say, the saturdays who people are saying are more of a singles act. They may not sell loads of albums but their sales are reasonable, and more in proportion to the number of singles they sell. Dynamite has sold twice any saturdays singles but the album can't even match headlines. Further, the saturdays singles all sell similar amounts (200k ish) which suggest a loyal fanbase versus the yoyoing taio does. In the same way, look at the amount of sats chat on BJ compared to Taio despite him arguably being bigger. I mean they're also newer and have a forum, does Taio? Surely McFlys next single and the style of that will establish if any kind of new pattern is emerging from them. I'll admit I've been more impressed with their recent output, and maligned as they are they have produced good pop music, written their own stuff and formed their own label. Bit more than many of their peers manage!
