  1. I think the new version is great! First listen was odd, I felt their voices were too mature(?) and the explicit replacements were jarring... But on further listens, the lyrics feel infinitely more natural and the regular version feels like more of a radio edit (and, bearing in mind they were marketed at a Disney channel type audience, I wouldn't be surprised if the label made them adjust the lyrics) - the differences in their vocals and the production set it apart in a distinguished way, it feels like an essential release rather than a cash in!
  2. You may call him Sir, from now on: Lewis Hamilton has been knighted for services to Motorsports in the New Year Honours 2021: Overseas and International List (classified as overseas, due to him living in that lovely tax haven called Monaco). Obviously, he has won the most races in F1, and I believe he's far from the best in the sport (I don't think I'd rate him any higher than Button - he's good, but the quality of his recent teammates is debatable, coupled with having the fastest car); he has (more importantly) spearheaded talks on diversity in F1, so I'd say it is very much deserved!

  5. Not from RBR... but according to this article, a Red Bull owned website (so more than likely factual) says that Perez will be announced today!

Maybe it's just me: but I couldn't tell you how many times I have music on which I haven't really been listening to, and before long 20 songs have played, and they I haven't registered a single one of them... Just because a playlist is on, doesn't mean I care about the songs that are on. If I care about them, I will either buy them or seek to listen to them myself. To me, the chart should be measuring how many people are discovering (and enjoying this newly discovered) music - not what music is being played (that can be covered in airplay and streaming charts). Genuinely popular music will provoke replays, should these replays be counted forever... Probably not. Each person should be able to contribute one sale per song... To me, that means 1 SES per person. 0.1 sales per full play; if the song is played by someone 10 times (in full), they probably like the song and have contributed 1 sale towards its lifetime total. Count stops there - more popular music gets visibility and the charts reflect what music people are discovering! EDIT: And yes; I will forever hammer this idea that's never gonna happen, I just think it's the best way of ensuring all consumption is treated in a similar way. 🙈🙈🙈

Still the only solution (in my eyes). Albums is more tricky, but I think you need to be invested enough to listen to an album; so one COMPLETE stream of a whole album should count to the albums chart. Actually agree with Popchartfreak: because of playlist domination, streaming's current system does not measure newly popular tracks (which is what the chart has historically measured). The radio airplay chart has always catered for people who have an idea of what they want to hear, but aren't *that* invested in the songs, much like the streaming chart should be - if people find a song offensive enough, they switch over the station or skip. Small number (but not too small that all passive/curiosity plays count) of chart contributing, lifetime, streams is the solution IMO.
  8. Oops. Forgot to add my comment I think this is a very good point. Being from '73, the recordings do sound particularly rough ('Step Into Christmas' - released the same year - sounds much slicker, to my ears) and will likely feel out of place in a playlist! By the late 80s, in particular, recording quality had increased immensely... By the time 'All I Want for Christmas' was released, we really weren't far off what we have now...
  9. I guess Grosjean has done something noteworthy this year (now). Unfortunately, he has been a dreadful driver in recent years (and outperformed by, the not exactly acclaimed, Magnussen). My comments wouldn't change, but I do hope he gets the chance to finish F1 on a high: be that via a Merc testing opportunity, or a reserve driver fill-in!
  10. Tbh, I feel it's best for Ilott that Schumacher won the series. Means he can have another crack of the whip next year, and possibly gain a 2022 F1 seat!
  11. First three, in fact! Although you can listen via their respective albums, but that must harm its streaming (surely more people will be listening to Murder on the Dancefloor/Take Me Home/Get Over You over the likes of Bittersweet and Come With Us?!). Probably a rights issue, surely Polydor would want the royalties from plays of the whole compilation? Bizarre decision.
  12. Uproar = advertising = more listeners!
  13. Maybe if there was a disclaimer at the beginning of every play stating: "This song is from 1987, and is very much a product of its time. We do not condone the usage of the words f***** and $l*t" at the start of every play... But that is not going to happen. Do you honestly think some 13 year old listening to this is going to care when it was released? They hear the term on radio, and they think it's an acceptable word to use (and in this case, it's being used as slur, so that negative connotation is cemented).

06 Lewis Hamilton (zero challenge, no particularly special drives this year) 02 Valtterified of aggression Bottas 03 Sebastian Vettel 09 Charles Leclerc (waaaaay outperforming his car) 10 Max Verstappen (waaaaay outperforming his car) 00 Alex Albon 07 Lando Norris 07 Carlos Sainz Jr 11 Daniel Ricciardo (waaaaay outperforming his car) 02 Esteban Ocon 08 Pierre Gasly 05 Danill Kvyat 06 Sergio Perez 07 Lance Stroll 07 Nico Hulkenberg 08 Kimi Raikkonen (I'm sure if Vettel was in the car, he'd kick Vettel's butt) 03 Antonio Giovinazzi -1 Romain Grosjean (nothing. noteworthy. at. all) 04 Kevin Magnussen (flashes of brilliance, would love to see him in something vaguely competitive - always seemed one of the more feisty drivers) 06 George Russell (feels like he should be great... but always manages to bin it under pressure...) 00 Nicholas Latifi Commentary is effort :(
  15. People mentioning Rebecca Ferguson singing half of this... I'm sure I'm hearing James Morriston as much as her (they both feel very dominant) 🙈 They both have quite unique voices though, so I don't blame them!
  16. Istanbul could be an interesting race if the teams can't... Erm... Get to grips (🙈) with the track...
  17. Depends on the demographic. This chart is very relevant in terms of ascertaining legacy acts popularity, I guess? Plus, multi-week number ones in 'Midnight Sky' and 'Head & Heart' (a genuine multi-weeker)... So this is the chart where great music prevails*... :D * Aware this is subjective, my faves seem to manage sales hits
  18. So this flew completely under the radar. Shame, as it's the only song I've cared for by him since 'Dangerous' (even if it doesn't hold a candle to that)...
  19. Only just now realised this is actually on streaming (Apple Music, at least)!
  20. Please tell me I'm not the only one who hears this? 🙈 Need confirmation that my ears are deceiving me!
  21. Is 'Something In Your Eyes' not just 'Story of a Heart' with the tempo increased?
  22. Sales are down for everyone though, not just regular new releases. Doing well on iTunes shows that it has resonated with the portion of the country that still download, against *all* other songs...
  23. Ugh. Disney can just do one. Really feeling for the cinema industry with all these pushbacks/straight to streaming films that could have smashed.
  24. Just leaving this here. Same goes for pushbacks. The New Mutants: destined to bomb anyway (and still managed a 600k? [Could be imagining this] opening), and basing on the pushbacks, was not a surprise Bill & Ted: Well that's on streaming already... I'm sure streamers could have waited a month or would have happily went out to the cinema (if that was the only option, at that point - everything gets a release eventually) Tenet: has been a reasonable smash - maybe less than it could have been - but £5mil is a serious opening (and certainly more than can be imagined from streaming) Mulan: obviously trying to hide a bomb, but would have helped out the cinemas I mean, people are heading to the cinemas (in not exactly completely insignificant numbers) to see reruns of classics and Onward! You can release and support cinemas. Ugh.
  25. Was gonna say it sounds SO SIMILAR to 'Another Chance'! This is the best Ella song since 'Ghost' and 'Glow' were released.
