immigration ISNT good for the country....
I'm not interested in estimates and expectations, I'd like real facts and figures as apposed to what people THINK will happen. The graph you provided confused the hell out of me, mostly because I've never seen a graph where it's data floats in the middle of it, and because I wanted to see the graph for myself, so if you could provide the direct link for the graph, that would be awesome. I also went onto the site you referenced to and found this page: http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=1311 and this page: http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=1305 And from what I can see, the figures reach no where near a million. I apologize if I've read the information wrong.

My point was that me being underpaid had nothing to do with immigration, so it was wrong of you to put the blame on immigrants.

Did my previous post say nothing to you? My employer DID pay me a low wage. And why? Because I was YOUNG. Business owners will always find a way to pay as little as they possibly can, either it be because someone else is willing to work for less, or because someone is young and naive. Hell I'm sure there's still an issue with men being paid more then women.

I was 16 at the time, and it was a really shady, cash in hand job. My boss broke so many laws it was unbelievable, and I know I was taken advantage of because of my age. What annoyed me the most was that I got a job working for a similar kind of store, where the boss was paying the same amount to his girls that were currently working there. I left after my first day. It's ridiculous how much employers get away with.

I don't really have much to say about the real issue at hand, but I just wanted to say I totally agree with you! I live close to Stamford Hill/Seven Sisters area of Hackney, and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I have no trouble getting to college on the tube or by bus, I've never been attacked or mugged (although admittedly I have been followed), and I've not had a problem getting a job. Not a single bit. I could sit here and complain all day about immigrants coming in and taking all my job oppertunities away from me, but that would be wrong of me. If my employer thinks its ok to pay me a very low wage because he has a young, Polish girl working for the same amount, who do I blame? My employer, obviously. Business owners are taking advantage on immigrants because they don't know any better. If you have a problem with it, you do something about it, you dont just sit on your ass and blame the people that really have no control over the situation. I didn't like the fact that I was being paid £3.05 an hour at my old job, so I left. I wish I knew more on how to make it more clear to other girls how little my former employer paid, but unfortunately I'm only one voice. I've noticed the increase of European immigrants in the area that I live in, and honestly? I haven't noticed any differences, and I live right in the center of Tottenham, Hackney and Haringey boroughs. I can only speak from exprience, and I don't see how our current immigrant situation has effected where I live. I suppose I might be a little bit bias on this whole issue because my parents migrated here from Cyprus, but whatever, they're hardworking, tax paying, honest people.

But surely buying it on the black market wouldn't come with the security of knowing where the stuff has come from, as well as what's actually in it? I know if I was going to buy some, I'd like it being produced by a company name I can trust, and I'd like to know that I'm getting quality goods. Price really shouldn't be an issue when it comes to stuff you're putting in to your body. There’s a difference between selling cigarettes brought back from another country, and making your own cigarettes and selling them. If it's all packaged and produced by a trusted company, then yeah, people will pay less for it if it’s being offered. But if it's something that’s coming from an unknown source, then I don't really know who in their right mind would buy it, even if it were cheap.

I personally don't use Cannabis myself, and don't ever intend to, but I agree that Cannabis should be legalized. There are many benefits that come with the legalization of Cannabis. It would be better economically, because the government would be able to put tax on the drug, and I'm pretty sure it would reduce crime, even if its by a small percentage. Drug dealers wouldn't take up space in prisons, police wouldn't waste their time searching minors, and overall crime would go down because teens don’t have to go to dangerous measures just to get their hands on it. It would be better for the user, as they know they would be getting clean, pure Cannabis. School children will find it less glamorous, because it's not an illegal thing to do; the same way smoking a normal cigarette becomes trivial after a while. I agree with the above poster and the person they quote. If a person doesn't know when to stop, thats their own problem. Saying that however, the drug itself doesn't have any addictive ingredients, its more of a mental thing.
