I'll enter anyway because of that Buzzjack anniversary thing Mattias was telling me about. (although it might just be a once off since I don't want to take part in more than one song contest at a time)

We thought it might be fun. (and I live nearby so I could help him out in person) I have experience hosting large song contests (with around 60 participants + semis) so if there's anything Mattias feels uncertain about I could back him up. and yes Dalisska would be returning.

I don't understand this. The Russian televote alone would have given Conchita 8 points. It's like the left hand is doing one thing and the right hand is doing something completely different. Sounds like a vocal minority getting their panties in a twist. I couldn't care less if Russia left, they never send anything I like anyway.

I'm kinda turning off Mario Kart. :( The new racers don't excite me at all, it just seems like more of the same. I had been thinking about getting the Wii U bundle with it (you get another free game if you register Mario Kart 8 online) but I'm not so sure anymore. I'll probably just wait for Smash Bros.

I feel like the only chance we'd have of getting Imelda May to do it is if we got a professional songwriter to write the song. (or let her write, or at least co-write the song) I doubt she'd sing any old song presented to her. There's 3 things that are hugely important: The Song The Singer The Presentation If even one of them is bad or even just ok/nice we might as well forget about it. It's all or nothing.

Maybe failing to qualify a couple of times and qualifying other times would give the UK some perspective.

RTE are scrapping the mentor system for next years Eurovision. Will be interesting to see where it goes from here. There seems to be a lot of talk about getting professional songwriters and presenting our song better on stage.

Interesting to see the Armenian juries thrashed Austria and Azerbaijan. Seems even drag queens can't be worse than Azerbaijan though. Austria came 2nd in their public vote though. Wow at Azerbaijan though coming last in both juries and public vote. It seems hard to believe that's just a coincidence. Azerbaijan responded the same to Armenia.

I'm happy for Austria winning. The song is growing on me a little even though it wasn't one of my favourites and Conchita performed it very well. Delighted to see the Netherlands up there. About the UK, I liked the performance overall but I thought there was something weird about the camera work. Sometimes it seemed off centre and lacking impact. I don't think it's a great idea to make a song with the mindset of copying songs that have done well in previous years. That's just asking Europe to give you a resounding "Meh". Best case scenario Europe's taste will have just moved on, worst case scenario the juries will actively penalize your song for being a blatant copycat or trying to cash in on what was popular in the previous contest.

Really interesting to see what a difference the live performance of the Netherlands made to the results. I admit I had to give it far more points after I saw that performance.

Lithuania surprised me a lot on Thursday night. I wasn't crazy about the song but like with Portugal in the first semi I thought she really gave the performance welly. My ranking of the performances: 1. Norway 2. Israel 3. Austria (Not crazy about the song but there's no denying Conchita dominated that performance) 4. Macedonia 5. Lithuania 6. Ireland 7. I really don't think Eoghan would have fared any better. We did the best with what we had to work with.

It's very difficult to decide on definite qualifiers in this semi..... Almost Certainty: Norway, Greece Very Likely: Romania Probably: Austria, Malta, Israel Up in the Air: Finland, Poland, Ireland, Lithuania, Switzerland, Macedonia, Belarus, Slovenia Almost No Chance: Georgia The "Up in the Air" section scares me. Question: Are Israel singing in Arabic or English tonight?
