Yeah, I think it's going to be either epic or fail.

Fairytale is incredible! It's slowly overshadowing Ireland 2007 and is becoming my favourite ESC song now :kink:

Ha! That's not necessarily a bad thing. :P Dervish were awful! (Studio version was OK, Live version was beyond horrific)

  2. Another article from CNN: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/0...acks/index.html

Critics took to the social networking site Facebook to voice their fury over Pope Benedict's remark that condoms do not prevent HIV.

Thousands have pledged to send the pontiff millions of condoms to protest the controversial comment he made to journalists as he flew to Cameroon last week.

"You can't resolve it with the distribution of condoms," the pope told reporters. "On the contrary, it increases the problem."

Pope Benedict XVI has made it clear he intends to uphold the traditional Catholic teaching on artificial contraception. The Vatican has long opposed the use of condoms and other forms of birth control and encourages sexual abstinence to fight the spread of the disease.

About a dozen Facebook groups have sprang up, mostly from European countries, criticizing the pontiff.

"The clergy aren't supposed to have sex at all, but they are free to tell people how to conduct themselves? That's like a girl who wears no make-up as the CEO of CoverGirl," one member posted on the page, "Condoms for Pope Benedict XVI."

"It frightens me that a man who has devoted his life to moral guidance ... and is undeniably a learned, intelligent man can be at the same time so narrow-minded, bigoted and irresponsible," posted another person on a different page.

The online campaign added another voice to a deluge of criticism, which includes the governments of France, Germany and Belgium. Aid agencies and other health organizations have also chimed in.

The Lancet, a British medical journal, urged the pope Saturday to issue a retraction for the "outrageous and wildly inaccurate" statement to journalists aboard his plane.

"When any influential person, be it a religious or political leader, makes a false scientific statement that could be devastating to the health of millions of people, they should retract or correct the public record," The Lancet said in an editorial.

"Anything less from Pope Benedict would be an immense disservice to the public and health advocates, including many thousands of Catholics, who work tirelessly to try and prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS worldwide."

Some in the Catholic Church have rallied to the pontiff's support.

Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, head of the Italian Bishops Conference, told Times Online in Britain that Benedict was simply pointing out that condoms "had not solved and could not solve the AIDS problem."

Despite the controversy, the pope's pilgrimage spurred excitement in Africa. An estimated 1 million people turned out to hear him preach a Mass in Angola on Sunday, the last major event of his trip. He spoke of the need for reconciliation in the country, which has endured a brutal civil war.

"Look to the future with hope, trust in God's promises and live in his truth. In this way you will build something that will stand and endure," he said.

  4. I remember when it was released. I was 6 and I really wanted to see it, but I had to wait until it came out on video. I thought it was quite good. It's no masterpiece, but it's a great rainy night movie.

And I'm delighted there wasn't a crappy sequel.

  5. bodfgsefvw!!!! Daveigh Chase!!! :drama: *drools*

It didn't need a sequel. But it has Daveigh in it, so I'm going to watch it . And I heard Jackson Rathbone stars in it, too. It'll be interesting to see how he goes from sparkly vampire to standard teenager :P

  6. I agree about the overkill. As much as I like Obama, it's getting a little tedious.

But I do agree with Meghan McCain on one point: (I never thought I'd say that!)

Larry King: [is President Obama getting overexposed]?

Meghan McCain: I think he is on the verge of it. I do think you have to be careful. But it is a different generation. [My] generation ... we like our celebrities. And I think that he realizes that because he is very much a Generation Y president. However, he is on the risk of alienating his older followers.

  7. well true, but just how can you actually punish him?... there is no punishment that could equate to the years of horror he inflicted.

That's also true. But I just think giving him these privileges is like a kick in the teeth for his daughter.

  8. i cant see what there is to 'discuss' here, lets talk about the reasons it happened, things like that, i dont want a thread full of knee jerk, lynch mob mentality replies. yes he IS evil, yes what he did WAS despicable , yes he does want 'sorting', but this forum aint the place for venting feelings like that without some sort of discussion or debate element to it.

I'll back my knee-jerk lynch mob mentality comment up, then.

The reason why him allegedly getting "special" treatment enrages me so much is because he has been charged with negligent murder, enslavement, incest, rape, coercion and false imprisonment. PLUS he was previously convicted of rape in 1967, where he spent 18 months in jail.

Lets say this was your average 23 year-old bloke and he pleaded guilty to rape, he'd get whatever you'd get for a rape case (I don't know how many years it is) and he'd be sent to your standard prison, where he'd probably know about the horrors in which he inflicted on the girl or guy he raped.

Now, Fritzl raped his daughter 3000 times (apparently), threatened her, neglected one baby which led to his death, enslaved his daughter and imprisoned her for 24 years. What I don't get is why he's going to get all this:

    * Own cell with shower, TV and personal computer

    * A small pet “for company”

    * Choice of plants and pictures to decorate cell

    * Good natural light and a view of prison courtyard

    * Classes including ceramics, basketry, woodwork and carpet-making

What's the actual difference than him being under house-arrest? Okay, you could argue that he has severe mental issues, but that's why we have psychiatric hospitals. You could also argue the fact that's he's 70-something year's old, but men his age are in prisons around the world when they've done much less, and they don't have any of the above luxuries.

Maybe there is some out-of-this-world reason as to why he's being treated like Paris Hilton, but if there isn't, then the Austrians have a lot to answer for.

  9. Some people need to build a bridge and get over it.

I don't see why using National Final failures is such a big deal. The last contest featured many "cheap" artists, and many of you sent them in their droves. So I don't think sending NF songs that most of you probably haven't even heard is such a travesty.

Also, isn't it a bit unfair to say you're not supporting NF songs even when 90% of you were against boycotting "cheap" entries last time? Some of you were killed telling people that you vote for the song if it's good [regardless if it's cheap or not], why can't you do that with these?

It looks like a big pile of steaming bull$h!t and double standards, quite honestly.
