ANDREJ'S TOP50 ALTERNATIVE CHART WEEKENDING DECEMBER 2ND, 2012 Last week it seemed like Jessie Ware had knock out Regina Spektor from the top. However it didn't happen. Both songs saved their positions from last week. Main troublemaker in Top 10 this week is English indie pop band The XX with second single from new album Coexist. Two songs jumped 10 places to break into Top 10: Inhaler by “Foals” and Saviour (The Hale Bop) by “Mystery Jets”. I've reviewed Inhaler last week when it was the biggest climber in Top 20. Mystery Jets’ new single ‘Saviour (The Hale Bop)’ is taken from their fourth album ‘Radlands’, which was co-produced by Mystery Jets and Dan Carey (Hot Chip, Franz Ferdinand, Emiliana Torrini). This country-shack disco number shows English band pay deft homage to the 70's American rock scene. Steve Miller Band first came to my mind when I was listening to this song. The biggest climber in Top 20 is Los Angeles pop group Haim with a new, Fleetwood Mac-inspired, single ‘Don’t Save Me’. The band is composed of sisters, Este, Danielle and Alana Haim. Their debut album is scheduled to drop Spring 2013. Mixing Californian Soft Rock and R&B, the LA band have become one of the most sought-after unsigned properties on the planet in first months of the year, until they'd signed with Polydor Records in June. Absolutely! :) One of my favourite albums of all-time. And The Look of Love is one of the greatest songs of the 80's. I love video for this song too. Nice to see original version of Family Man in your Charts. Can't say that Hall & Oates cover was any worse than the original, but i was always a bit upset that Oldfield has never charted with that one. And vocals performed by Maggie Reilly are brilliant there. I'm agreed with Alex on Videotheque. Though my favourite Dollar song is Love's Gotta Hold on Me, this one is a solid pop song. And the title... Everybody's been so excited over the home video in the beginning of the 80's :D I love A Flock of Seagulls, but haven't been familiar with "Space Age Love Song". ABBA really deserved a No.1 hit with The Day Before You Came. Perhaps, ABBA's best love song.

I think it's one of the biggest injustice in UK Chart history. This song along with Gimme Shelter are my favourite Stones songs ever! Their 1967 double A-sided single We Love You/Dandelion is no near as good as that one. No wonder it was their worst selling single in UK since the beginning... Madness and Bananarama give 80's favour to your Top 10. :)

Swedish-born Jonna Lee more known under pseudonym iamamiwhoami moved up one position to pretty respectable No.3 with her “tiny, tiny shot” called “Goods”. This song is full of 70s disco moves, flashing lights, and warped synth sounds. All Top5 occupied by female artists this week. I believe it's the first time such an event has happened to my Chart. The second highest climber in Top10 this week is an English London-based musical duo Public Service Broadcasting which have had No.1 hit earlier this year with Spitfire. Another great effort from these guys, a new single, Everest, is based around 'The Conquest of Everest' a 1953 film charting Hilary and Tensing's first successful ascent of the mountain. Oliver Sabin, also known as Unicorn Kid is spending his first week in Top 10, with Need U, which sounds like something from the early 90's. The biggest climber in Top 20 this week is (predictably)... last week's highest new entry... English rock band Foals. "Inhaler" is a the first single from their third studio album Holy Fire. Looks like they have moved to a rockier sound with this one. Still sounds a bit like Bloc Party to my ears though... in a good sense :-) There's some special thrill inside Top30 as well, where 3 British music legends (Led Zeppelin, Adam Ant and Madness) struggle against an American one (Aerosmith). Great chart as ever, John! I'm happy about Roxy Music reaching No.1 in your Chart. Virgina Plain really worths that honour! I admire keyboards part on this track. John, have you heard the original version of "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft" by Klaatu? I'm a big fan of first two Klaatu's albums. Even though i still like Carpenters version too. There's something in Carpenters that touches me. They are my guilty pleasure. :D

Hi there, Doc! :D Have you heard Regina's latest album? I think it's fantastic and full of nice tracks. I believe that her previous singles ("All the Rowboats" and "Don’t Leave Me (Ne me quitte pas)") were great too. Another favourites of mine from '"...the Cheap Seats"' are "Firewood" (great piano song which sounds like if it was made by Simon-Garfunkel). "Oh Marcello" (very beautiful artistic effort from Regina singin' with italian accent :D ) and album opener "Small Town Moon" (lovely ballad which have a strong resemblance to early Elton John's stuff). "Ballad Of A Politician" is the most emotional track on the album (though they all are)... "Open", "The Party", "Jessica"... not a bad song on this album... I noticed Villagers new track on your playlist. Lovely song. Just heard it yesterday. Have you already heard Everything Everything new single? Strong single and even better than "Cough Cough", in my opinion... Thanks to Martin and John for your comments (saying that Marvin Gaye's classic "Abraham, Martin and John" suddenly came to my mind :D . Sorry for pun, mates. Just couldn't help saying that) I'm afraid No Doubt are on their pick in my Chart with this track, John. So many great songs knocking at the door... One of them is a track by the Rolling Stones, "One More Shot". It's a new studio recording from their forthcoming Greatest Hits collection, GRRR! That explains why Doom And Gloom is sliding down so fast...

Hi, John! :) Great Chart as always and i love your No.1! Never heard Kristina Train before. This song is really great! And i think it sounds right ...for a Xmas Number One (even though it was released in September). Nice to find David Bowie at No.4 in your Chart and Madness at 18. Can't believe "Love Me Do" turns 50 this month! I heard that all the "Beatles" catalogue was re-released on vynil as limited edition last week.

We both agree 'bout the main stuff. The Chart music have became worse now, than it's been some decades ago. Chart music of the 80's and 90's were aimed to the 13-14 years old public. Now it's in the interests of 9-10 year old kids. My 10-year old son is in the most of dance music from the recent Charts (LMFAO, PSY, Wanted...). I think Chart music have become too simplified, too formulistic, too silly if you wish... Well, pop music has always been silly, but sometimes we had angry guys with guitars which gave us some fresh air (Marc Bolan, Sex Pistols, Nirvana, Franz Ferdinand). We still have very talented rebellious young guys just round the corner (Ty Segall, Toys, Kartica, Thee Oh Sees). But they'll never reach the Top 40. And even more traditional pop music artists can't find the way to the Charts... I spent my teenage years in the 80's. So my definition of fine pop music a little bit differs from yours. I prefer Pet Shop Boys, Wham, Duran Duran, Billy Ocean, Starship to the late 90's pop icons. In fact, most of them were just reworking the classic 70's and 80's hits. However, some 90's pop stars weren't that bad (Take That and Spice Girls, for example).

Same here, John! :) And you're right that people choose the decade they were a teenager. I think it's because the emotions are richer and stronger when you're young. The other reason is that you're not so experienced in music when you're a teenager. Everything round sound so fresh, so exclusive...

It's a nice site, but i wasn't succesful at finding TV Charts there. Is there any TV site that have an archive of TV ratings? I'm also interested in UK TV programmes chedules from the past. Can you help me with any internet source for this sort of information?
