1982
Great Chart, John! I like it a lot, except for one thing: low position of SAVE A PRAYER. I think it would be my long-time Number One had i compiled the Chart then. Absolutely fantastic song! Almost 20 years ago, when i heard BCC Vintage Chart Show from September 1982, i fell in love with THE BITTEREST PILL by Jam. Then it had been my favourite Jam's track for quite a long period. Still love it. Good video as well. Who was that girl in it? Wasn't it Tracie, a Paul Weller protégée at the time? Great track by Dire Straits. I love rough guitar sound in the middle of the song. Sounds a bit like Dave Guilmore for me.

1979 Top 100
What a year that was...!!! I think my Chart would be pretty much the same like yours, just some artists had been at higher positions: Elvis Costello, Ian Dury & Blockheads, Nick Lowe, XTC... Also i would add a Led Zeppelin track from "In Through the Out Door" (most likely, All My Love). That album was first in three years for LedZep and it was greatest comeback! I'm agreed with ELO's domination in 1979 Chart. "Discovery" is such a fantastic album! I think those were the heydays of Jeff Lynne and the Co. For me 1979 also was a year of Thin Lizzy. At least three great singles (Waiting for an Alibi, Do Anything You Want To and Sarah) were released from the album Black Rose.

John V's Top 75 9th Sept 2012
Great mixture of best from new music and oldies but goldies tracks! These songs are in my Chart now: And those songs would certainly have been there, had i include old records in my Chart (i only have exception for re-issued classic tracks). Great Chart, John!

Radio Luxembourg Charts
Thanks a lot, John! Now we've got full charts of 2 weeks in a row: June 6th and June 13th of 1972. I'm glad that you said that. Not a Cliff's fan myself, but I think most of his singles from 1976-1982 were absolutely perfect pop songs! First of all, it's "Miss You Nights", "Devil Woman", "I Can't Ask For Anything More Than You Babe", "We Don't Talk Anymore", "Carrie", "Dreamin'" and "Wired For Sound". And of cause 1976 album "I'm Nearly Famous" was very good work, perhaps his stongest album in whole career. Then he's got back with some really fine pop singles in 1987 ("My Pretty One" and "Some People"). Nothing interesting after that though...

1997 - my charts of the year
Yes, boy bands ruined the end of decade. It's been even worse than SAW chart invasion of the late 80's. Luckily still there were Moby, Blur, Supergrass, Suede, Stereophonics, Beautiful South, Super Furry Animals, Semisonic, Travis, New Radicals, Moloko, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Primal Scream, Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim. Madness, Culture Club, Blondie and David Bowie did their great combacks.

1997 - my charts of the year
Great Chart, John! My personal No.1 for that year (and most probably for the whole decade) was KARMA POLICE by Radiohead. Next comes Beetlebum by Blur. 1997 was quite a good year for the music!

Status Quo... your opinion - good or bad?
To each his own. Can agree with your first statement, but will never agree with the second one.

Status Quo... your opinion - good or bad?
I think my favourite Status Quo songs are the ones that were not quite typical for this band: Pictures of Matchstick Men (i think even Syd Barret could have been proud of such a song) and In The Army Now (Bolland Brothers' cover). I don't like their standard three bars rock'n'rolls. Don't like Francis Rossi's voice either, which is no good for rock'n'roll, i believe. I would say, these guys are too predictable. P.S. I first wrote down my post and then looked back and had found i almost repeated popchartfreak's post. Be sure it was not made deliberately :D

25 Years Ago 1st sept 1987 John's Top 40
Hi, John! Nice to see a Chart from that particlular year, when i started to follow UK Singles Charts on a regular basis. I missed 4 weeks though (from beginning of August till beginning of September) when i've been away at our family friends house. I got back in the end of August but still missed some Charts (perhaps BBC World Service has changed a bit their regular show time or something). It was the time i have started to listen to American Top 10 on Voice Of America. I liked some entries there. First of all, Rhythm Is Gonna Get You by Miami Sound Machine, which had charted in the UK only a year later. In fact, your Top 10 quite matches to my preferences those days. I loved Pet Shop Boys and Dusty Springfield collaborations. I believe that was my favourite track on Actually LP. I also liked Wax, T'Pau, Michael Jackson and Bananarama singles. Strange to see Climie Fisher here as Love Changes Everything charted 5 months later in the UK.

Radio Luxembourg Charts
Thank you, John, once again! This week matches the BBC chart weekending January 1, 1972. Though you may be absolutely right that the date of Luxy Chart was December 21. New Seekers topped the RTL Chart a week ahead of BBC one. As well as Family Affair entered the Top 30 a week before their debut at No.39 on the main Chart. Melanie (No. 34 on BBC), Ronnie Dyson (37), Faces (43), Marmalade (39) and Marvin Gaye (42) were outside BBC Top 30 that week. Sleepy Shores by Johnny Pearson Orchestra (No.13 on BBC) and Mother Of Mine by Neil Reid (No.18) didn't charted on Luxy Top 30. Both songs were on their way up the Charts and most probably had entered Radio 208 chart the following week.

STOCK, AITKEN and WATERMAN
If not Stock, Aitken & Waterman there would be Aitdock, Witken & Stockerman... Someone must have took that sweet place, cause the public was ready. Bloody yuppie required their own music, different from those early 80's electronic edge of sound. The new generation was looking for music which may fit with their image. And they got it. Anyway, i think pop music wasn't killed then. It was heavily poisoned, but still alive. Every decade had its pop music killer. What about 90's boys bands? To me Boyzone and Westlife were even more evil than Bros or Dead or Alive. I personally see no chain between SAW Hit Factory and Boy Bands of the 90's. I'd better blame Maurice Starr (New Kids on the Block producer) for that. Every new decade brought us a new creature to kill the Charts and pop music. And now we've finally in the end of the road. Pop music is killed my friends! Could you dream in 1988 that 24 years later the Chart would looks like one endless song cut along 40 times with slightly different voices? It can't be worse now. So we can be optimistic now :D Yes, i hate Stock, Aitken & Waterman too. However i started to listen to the UK Charts regularly in 1987. And i still enjoy those end of 80's charts today. Or perhaps, i'm just growing old?

Radio Luxembourg Charts
Thank you, John! Still not sure whether it matches UK singles chart of 3rd June or 10th June of 1972 as after entering the BBC chart at No.25 on week ending June 3rd, Take Me Back 'Ome had reached only No.14 the following week. It's notable that Amazing Grace by The Royal Scots Dragoon Guard (the best selling single of 1972, if i recall it correctly) isn't in the Luxy's Chart, though it was in the bottom of Top 10 in the one from BBC. Still there's no 1972 FA Cup winners Leeds Utd in this Chart. They had a Top 20 hit with Leeds United in the main Chart. Correct me if i'm wrong, but it looks like they've always ignored the football songs in their Charts.

John's Top 20 Aug 27th 1972 Olympic Week
Oh, those Oldfield tracks hardly can be called songs in general meaning. You're referring to Hergest Ridge, Part 1 and Part 2, right? I love 70's progressive rock too. :D

John's Top 20 Aug 27th 1972 Olympic Week
Those were the great times... Mott The Hoople, Roxy Music, Derek & The Dominoes, Rod Stewart, Gary Glitter and Procol Harum... All artists are at their best! Sure you were wrong when you stinted yourself within the bounds of UK Top 30. Did you include the album tracks in your chart when you opened it up to allcomers in 1974?

John's Top 40 AUG 16th 1977
Wow! In that case your Charts are extremely interesting! Would be lovely if you posted the other oldies Charts from your collection. I also love Stevie Nicks. "Gypsy" is a perfect pop song. Quite strange for me that Oh Diane became a Top 10 hit whereas Gypsy didn't even reach the Top 40. And all that in spite of a lengthy video, the highest-budget music video ever produced at the time!

John's Top 40 AUG 16th 1977
Great Chart, John! :) Did you compile this chart back in 1977? Great to see Dreams charted at No.3. I've always regretted it's only peaked 24 in the British chart. True classic hit!
