iTunes Chart: February [III]
HaHa! It was hyperbole of the most hyperbolic kind  Having said, if a few weeks ago I had predicted that, in her 4th week of the release of '21' she would equal a record set by The Beatles 47 years ago......

iTunes Chart: February [III]
I'm assuming that is not combined? If not, she surely is looking at another week at number 1. Once the inevitable airplay kicks in, I swear this could be another 'Love Is All Around Me' type situation (IIRC the record company deleted that after 15 weeks on top so other singles got a chance!)

Duffy quits music?
1. I genuinely don't believe Adele (or her management) would have gone anywhere near such a song for her album let alone a lead single. 2. You are being a little naughty here :P The album was launched at THE most advantageous time for sales. In that respect, and coming off the back of such a huge debut, sales of 51,000 for 9th place were very poor. If the album had been released in January Lord only knows how little it would have sold.

Duffy quits music?
Yes, it's a bit like the politician who quits office 'to spend more time with my family'. PS I sincerely hope she keeps away from the music news next week. It can't make great reading for her..

Adele. - 21
In most singers hands, Don't You Remember (certainly live) could be an absolute disaster of a song - those long notes with key changes are just so difficult to sing without it sounding ropey as hell. Perez clearly rates her singing this live! http://perezhilton.com/2011-02-20-adele-do...r-live-at-largo

Chart Battle: Adele vs. Jessie vs. Rihanna vs. Lady Gaga
All depends on airplay for Adele - if she gets the airplay the song/performance deserves then I can see a 'love Is all around Me' situation. Buts she's not on the Radio 1 playlist at all but maybe this will change now?

Jessie J - Who You Are + Singles
Clare Maguire recently supported Hurts on their UK tour and got very mixed reviews. We'll see but I think lower Top 10 would be a result for her. Sort of revising my confidence of Jessie j getting a number 1 album now, TBH. If Adele's live SLY gets the airplay its (hopefully) number 1 on Sunday deserves, I can see '21' continuing its amazing run of over 100,000 weekly sales. If that were to happen, will Jessie J sell over 100,000 first week? Not at all sure.

#1 Album
Not sure Jessie J will be a massive album seller, TBH. Having said that, she could sell enough in her 1st week of release to beat Adele in her 6th week of release but still not convinced - all depends on airplay the SLY live version picks up, and if it is indeed number 1 tomorrow then that could be a lot! It's an interesting one, certainly. I'm more certain who will have sold the most albums come the 31st December, though. There will be no comparison, I believe.

But it's not their voice! I can see I'm far too old to understand the concept of this so I'll leave you all to it. Have fun :w00t:

The punter is being duped, pure and simple. Up to them whether they want to be or not. If i had seen the singer and saw they couldn't sing live, I genuinely wouldn't buy it. What would be the point? You aren't buying the singer singing the song! I had a look at the Rihanna Brit upload today and there are fans there claiming there was no backing track! Seriously, when music execs have ppl as thick as that to sell to, it's no wonder they go for the lowest common denominator. Anyway, is the tide turning? Are ppl getting sick of being duped by computers? Adele - Ellen Show RITD uploaded 3/12/10 - 506,000 views Katy Perry - Ellen Show Firework uploaded 8/12/10 - 283,000 views Similar results when you look at the Brit uploads of Adele and Rihanna...

I would imagine that's exactly what he/she was getting at. It's an interesting question. I wonder if those 'singers' mentioned do feel embarrassment at their own vocal inadequacies when they hear Adele do something like she did on Tuesday night? If not, they are truly deluded. Katy Perry on Ellen (it's mostly all painful to witness but 0.58-1.14 is particularly harrowing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQk7VBbKyT0 Seriously, is this what the pop world has come to??

In the case of Firework, I would imagine any self respecting songwriter would actually be hopeful they wouldn't be tempted to write a first few lines like this:
-
iTunes Chart: February 2011 (II)
Really? Why? No matter how you are trying to dress it up, the public has voted with their mouse clicks and wallets and Adele stole the show. It would matter not where she sang in the proceedings - actually putting her on very early made it worse for the rest of them as the best came on early and the rest struggled in comparison. This is not opinion this is borne out by what has happened since...

iTunes Chart: February 2011 (II)
I know it's all about opinions and nobody is right and nobody is wrong but for many of us, me included, that would be a big plus point  Leaving opinions aside, the great British public have clearly decided who they thought stole the show looking at how sales have gone since the show aired and you tube views. Now, an artist like Rihanna with a predominantly young fan base should have a massive advantage over Adele when it comes to you tube but certainly on the Brits youtube performance she's getting all sorts of slaughtered. Adele - 923,000 Rihanna - 528,000 An amazing difference, you have to admit.

Which artist has the best live performance?
Apologies for getting technical but her bottom register definitely needs working on (it's a common weakness on many of the new 'divas', Leona Lewis' bottom register is almost non-existent)
-
Which artist has the best live performance?
That would all depend on if you want a singer to actually sing or prance around the stage to a backing track. Or maybe I'm showing my age, lol. Personally, if I wanted to see great dancing I'd go see Diversity...

Which artist has the best live performance?
K D Lang. If she looked like Cheryl Cole she would have been the World's greatest superstar. Best set of (live) pipes in the world (although give Adele time). Crying: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Cc8TI1KomU Hallelujah: (the standing O lasts almost as long as the song!!) Constant Craving: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaHZNTd-YVY

Agreed, I'm old and have been on the net almost as long as Sir Tim and I can't remember a forum anywhere else that doesn't allow a poster to delete their own post...

Thanks for the chart, britster! Looks like Adele's SLY album version is ready to overtake GaGa!

Mary Byrne
This album was her pay off for not continuing with her 'I was robbed' line of publicity just after she was, how shall we say, 'controversially' ousted in favour of that awful chav 'rapper'. Back to Tesco by the Summer?

iTunes Chart: February 2011 (II)
Hasn't Adele done a duet with Lady Antebellum? Apparently her bus driver on her US tour got her into them in a big way. And as regards Timshel, love Mumfords, love the album, love timshel.....but on the album is where it should stay. Whilst I admire them for going for it and trying to be different, epic fail on The Brits. Maybe it was because the stripped down, acoustic approach had already been more than nailed by Adele previously, but total lost opportunity IMO

iTunes Chart: February 2011 (II)
So do I. In fact, it may even beat the first week's 208,000. If she'd already sold 90,000 by midnight Wednesday (only 28 hours of after Brits sales), lord only knows what she's sold today :o And the physicals on Saturday should be monstrously high.

iTunes Chart: February 2011 (II)
Fair enough, but she is the World's biggest pop star! I do think her losing ground on Jessie J especially (3rd week on chart?) won't be impressing her record company. It's not like Jessie j got a Brit performance, just an acceptance speech. GaGa, of course, had a hugely hyped Grammys performance and Jessie J nothing? Not good. Her losing ground on Adele is more understandable..
