iTunes Chart: February 2011 (II)
Wooaahh..thank God i've got one of those laptops with the widescreen...that bar goes on forever!! GaGa is running out of steam like an asthmatic walking up a steep incline. That's really quite worrying for fans, isn't it?

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I just find it a bit sad to have to rely on a video to get a song to number 1? Surely a song should stand or fall on its aural merits? S'ppose it's a sign of the multi media/format age. And my advancing years. NURSE!! :w00t:

Adele. - 21
That unplugged performance is the one Perez is going gaga over (if you parden the pun, lol).

The thing about SLY (especially live) is, even though it's not what you could call a catchy pop song, it makes an instant reaction with somebody hearing it for the first time. Then, because it's not a catchy pop song, it seems to get better with repeated plays and the boredom threshold for most people with this seems to be almost non-existent (you only have to look at the comments on the youtube clip of thsi and the Jools Holland version - people profess to watching it over and over again without getting bored!). In that sense it's a phenomenon

I think if Adele DOES get number 1 and this amazing performance starts getting any sort of decent airplay, I wouldn't be so confident that GaGa will take over from her anytime soon. This song could end up being another Love Is All Around Me (only way better!).

We haven't had one of those popularity bar type thingies for a while. Would be interesting to see if 'Our Adele' is maintaining her momentum. Anyone clever enough to do one (I'm not :( )? TIA!

Better songs is only your opinion as is my assertion that Swift couldn't have done what Adele did Tuesday night on account of having a very ropey live voice. It wasn't just the song on the Brits, it was the way it was delivered.

Not to mention Turning Tables.

I would imagine, should this continue, she'll be able to make number 1 just with the live version sales...

"Someone Like You" • Second Single
She's an absolute interviewer's dream that girl. Fantastic. I hope she never changes. 'Anyone who hasn't got love for each other - f*ck off!

Revised Poll : #1? Lady Gaga v Jessie J v Adele
Adele for me, I think she's got the momentum (and it's bloody brilliant but that's rarely a factor in these things) - if it happens, it will be ironic that her first number 1 single will be a non-single (if you see what I mean).

She's streaking away at number 1 with the Brits live version!

200,000 album sales this week possible?

iTunes Chart: February 2011 (II)
Ahhh, but don't forget Adele is the Queen of the Weekend sales..

I would be surprised if it's not way more than 8000. It's the slackest day for sales but it's also the day after she stole the show at The Brits. I would imagine a big proportion of the down loaders are not in any way 'regulars'...

Stitched on for Adele!! So happy for her. Seriously, exactly how many copies has the live version sold in the last 24 hours??

iTunes Chart: February 2011 (II)
Last week surely proved beyond doubt that she has 60,000 absolute die hard supporters in the UK, the rest are more casual supporters (those who are downloading this week). Whilst that sounds a low number, I don't think it is - the biggest artists in the World probably have a similar number of absolute die hards (who are also probably multi buyers), the rest of the success equation is taken up by casuals who get involved later if they like what they see/hear.

Now some would suggest it's something to do with that organisation starting with the letters illu but as i'm not even sure they exist I couldn't offer any useful insight.

What I'm trying to say is she's fake (certainly compared to Adele) in the sense that she's had to create a pre-meditated crazy character to be noticed because as a 'conventional' artist no-one really cared. Adele has never had to do this. And, to be fair, 'old' Gaga (Stefani) wasn't bad at all...but probably not any different to many lounge singers.

If you look on youtube at GaGa's early (pre GaGa just search for STEFANI GERMANOTTA) days she actually tried the 'conventional' ballad route......and failed miserably. Hence the adoption of the crazy persona - don't believe it for a minute, it's all marketing. Albeit clever marketing. So, in that sense, Adele is the true victor - no silly stunts, no pyrotechnics, no gimmicks, just her amazing (natural) voice, a Barbadian piano man and magic ensues.

To be fair, she also said to Jay Leno that she'd had an email from Madonna. (j/k, j/k, j/k) :naughty:

But wait, there's more! 1. GaGa - Born This Way 2. Jessie J - Price Tag 3. Adele - Somone Like You (Live at Brits) 4. Adele - Someone Like You (Album version) 5. Adele - Rolling in the Deep LOL. I think word has gotten round the GaGa community that their idol was struggling! Fascinating battle - the regimented GaGa-ists and the much less regimented (but larger in number) GB public, lol.
