Beyonce is a heartless woman! Kelly too. One of them should have helped her up - it must have hurt.

Akon. I think I dislike Cassie more but that would be a wasted vote at this stage.

  7. The Muppets Christmas Carol is a lot of nostalgic fun.

I never saw the first one - and never thought there'd be any need for a sequel.

I really like 'Thank God I Found You' but I think there are far better songs. I don't know why it's quite as popular on this forum, and others, as it is.
  10. All I was doing was saying why they charge more. I'm not justifying it. They charge more because they can (i.e. because the people that go trekking into town for that one CD may not quibble about paying a few pounds more) and because I thought they had a reason (though Russ says I may be wrong about that.) I'm not trying to justify the price hike for certain CDs at all. I think CD prices should be standardised.
  11. I didn't know that the record companies sold the stores chart stuff cheaper. Learned something new - Thank You. That said, a store like HMV will have much higher costs than the music department of a big supermarket. And they're responsible for stocking more whereas Tesco can just sell 70 CDs at a time and no-one will complain. So that's why they'll charge more.

I did my own shopping ages ago but I spent all day and all evening helping 2 friends do theirs. People in Manchester are so pushy - it was a HORRIBLE experience.
  15. I've voted for 'The One' because it's $h!t. More people vote that out please. Poor 'My Saving Grace' - religious songs don't do well on our survivors.

Listen to when she says 'sad, so sad' towards the end of 'Sorry'. She's flat on the second 'sad' both times. 'Summertime' is very well done. (That's a stupid thing to say. Both are very well done and well-sung but 'Sorry' does have a few duff notes in. The judges always said she was 'flawless', which annoyed me, as many of her performances had odd notes and awkward bits. They were great in a million ways but they had flaws so they can't be 'flawless'. I shall buy all three of the judges a dictionary for their birthdays. And explain to Simon that 100% is the maximum.)
  18. But it does cost them more to keep stock that's not going to sell. There's a greater risk for them in ordering it - they're not guaranteed the sales in return. In order to cater to all audiences, they have to store maybe one or two copies of hundreds of CDs that will sell in very small quantities so they need to have bigger stores and pay more in rent. They also have to print more labels, print more headerboards, employ more staff to stock more shelves. Some of these albums just sit there for months at a time. So when someone does buy one, they want to charge more to make stocking it in the first place worthwhile. A chart album will be in and out of the store in a week. They can order (and sell) the items in larger quantities, reducing the costs per item. So they charge less.
  19. Thanks for the link. That article was hilarious - just the laugh I needed today.
  20. She'll have given away a lot to charity. Plus I don't know whether all the figures in the OP are before tax (where she'd pay a 50% rate in the U.S.). Even so, she's probably got well over £100 million.
  21. I don't understand why 'Hood Boy' has not been a bigger hit for Fantasia. It's fantastic and so, so commercial.
  22. There's a big holiday market in the US. Sarah McLachlan is having her biggest hit in years over there. Mariah's christmas one, if she released it, wouldn't sell in an outstanding way, or break any records, but it would keep selling well every year for years. Perhaps end up double or triple platinum. The iTunes UK chart is littered with christmas songs. From the big hits by Mariah, Pogues and Slade to the more obscure Eartha Kitt, Johnny Mathis and Chris Rea. Christmas songs are a huge source of revenue.

It's too pink. If Mariah had any straight male fans, they wouldn't like it one bit. No news is disappointing. I wanted some proof an album is coming and Mariah isn't just getting drunk somewhere.
