  2. KYLIE'S SMELL OF SUCCESS

KYLIE Minogue is heading for number one in the "smells chart" this Christmas.

The 38-year-old Aussie singer - who has battled back from breast cancer - has sold more bottles of her celebrity perfume than any of her rivals.

Kylie's Darling scent is proving the most popular of all the star fragrances, beating the likes of Victoria and David Beckham, Britney Spears, Cindy Crawford and Calum Best.

The chart has been compiled by high street chain Superdrug.

Tim Hughes, the company's fragrance buyer, said: "Everyone loves Kylie, and our customers love her fragrance. It's a beautiful scent and a really pretty bottle.

"The Beckhams are still popular but Victoria has been knocked off her perch by Kylie - our Christmas fragrance fairy."

To celebrate Kylie's reign at the top, the shop are offering customers a special 24-hour Christmas treat on the fragrance.

Stores are knocking a third off the recommended price.

The number one perfume will be on sale for £12.95, a saving of £6.55 on the recommended retail price.

Hughes added: "Superdrug's celebrity fragrance chart is the only hit parade that matters in the fragrance industry.

"We will sell 2.5million bottles of fine fragrance over Christmas, and that is surely worth a platinum disc."

    Kylie 'too busy' for Glastonbury

Pop star Kylie Minogue will not make her long-rumoured appearance at next year's Glastonbury festival, says organiser Emily Eavis.

"It's not going to happen," she told BBC 6 Music, adding that the singer had "a lot of touring up her sleeve".

Earlier this year, Ms Eavis's father, Michael, said he was "really hopeful" that Minogue would perform.

The pop star pulled out of a planned appearance at Glastonbury in 2005 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She returned to the stage in Australia last month with her critically acclaimed Showgirl Homecoming tour.

The final date of the Australian leg took place in Melbourne on Sunday. The previous night saw the singer joined on stage by her sister Dannii to perform the hit single Kids.

The tour hits the UK on New Year's Eve, starting a run of seven dates at Wembley Arena, followed by a further six nights in Manchester.

But Ms Eavis says Minogue will be too busy to join the Glastonbury festival in June.

"I think if she was going to do Glastonbury, she'd rework her show and I don't think it's going to be possible in that time frame," she said.

She also denied that The Killers or Muse would make headline performances at the festival.

"We've got really good stuff coming in. But there's not going to be dominating headliners," she said.

Kylie Minogue has knocked Victoria Beckham off the top of the celebrity perfume chart.

The pop princess's 'Darling' fragrance is the best-seller at high street chain Superdrug.

Its success follows a rapid expansion in the market for "celebrity" perfumes.

Superdrug's sales of fragrances backed by famous faces such as J.Lo, Britney Spears and Jade Goody have doubled in the past year.

Kylie's perfume went on sale in November, the same month that she gave her her first stage show since being diagnosed with breast cancer 18 months previously.

Superdrug's fragrance buyer Tim Hughes said celebrity fragrances had become big business.

He said: "Five years ago fragrances were all about designer names and the big beauty houses such as Chanel.

"The only celebrity fragrances were quite marginal and rather naff. J.Lo changed all that with the launch of her first fragrance."

He added: "The Beckhams have also exploited the market really well with their brand."

Victoria Beckham's Intimately Her perfume is second in the chain's celeb perfume charts followed by Jade Goody's Shhh.
