  1. A Star Is Born is holding superbly in the US. It and Venom made the same amount of money yesterday. It won't be long before Star is outperforming it. EDIT: In fact, the updated predictions for this weekend are in and A Star Is Born is expected to be number 1.

Having just seen it, I'd say Gaga is undoubtedly leading the pack when it comes to awards season. I was so impressed by her performance. I expected it to be a bit stilted and drama-student in terms of quality, but wow. She's so natural. It made me feel like a lot of the scenes between her and Bradley were totally unscripted. Both of them are astonishingly good. There's absolutely no way on earth this movie isn't getting multiple Oscar nominations.
  3. There was never really any doubt that Venom would beat Star in the opening weekend, but my god does Star deserve to win in the long run. I'm just back from seeing it and I'm absolutely floored. It's astonishing and deserves to sweep the boards during awards season.
  4. I'm just back from seeing A Star Is Born. For anyone who hasn't seen it, I can't even describe how massive Shallow is in the context of the movie. That moment is electrifying and I'm not the least bit surprised that it's gaining massively now. It's really incredible. Always Remember Us This Way will be huge too. Glorious melody and a beautiful vocal. Probably among the best vocals Gaga has ever achieved. I'll Never Love Again also deserves massive success and if they push that and she performs it at the Oscars, holy wow, what a moment that would be.
  5. Wow at Shallow climbing back up to 3. I didn't expect that. It's a pity it's too late to get them into the official top 10 now. Looks like they'll just miss out. Hearing that I Will Never Love Again is getting the big single/awards push. Also expecting this album to do big things now.
  6. Yeah it's live. If you watch the original trailer you can hear the studio version of the track. When she hits the chorus there's a rasp in her vocal that isn't there on the live version. I really hope we get the studio version at some point.
  7. Never Enough should have been the song from the soundtrack, and should have been nominated for the Oscar too. It's stunning. Loren's vocal is astonishing.
  8. I haven't seen the movie yet (roll on Friday) but from what I've heard and read, there are better songs. I've heard I'll Never Love Again and it's absolutely stunning, but isn't commercial enough to be a hit. Shallow was always going to be anticipated the most because it was such a big moment in that very first trailer. But I don't expect them to be having massive hits, like This Is Me. I think people will go for the whole album as opposed to individual tracks, as it's being presented almost like an audio journey through the film, with little dialogue tracks in there too.

She's tracking for 160k-180k in the US and will open at number 2 (or 3 if Kanye drops an album, which seems likely). That's unbelievably huge for her. Her last studio album, Closer to the Truth, opened with 63k. So, it's a HUGE jump.
  10. They're definitely not aiming for hit singles. The plan up until last week was not to release any individual singles at all. So, I think it's purely to capitalise on the hype that's building for the movie and to get people interested in the soundtrack album.
  11. The movie will be a massive success. I don't think that's in any doubt at all. The tracking for opening weekend increases with every update, but is topping out at $55 million at the moment. It's critically acclaimed and is currently an Oscar favourite in almost every category. It will undoubtedly boost the soundtrack's success and the success of whatever song catches the audience the most. Though there's every chance it will be one of the others, rather than Shallow. All it takes is a couple of high profile performances and boom. An Oscar performance is all but guaranteed, but if they do any other promo and actually sing together, it'll be golden. For context, Greatest Showman opened with under $9 million in its first weekend. So it's an apples and oranges comparison.

I wouldn't say it was at all surprising that Cher's voice sounds strong. She has a very powerful voice and has always been able to use it well. She's an extremely underrated vocalist, I suspect purely because of her use of vocoder effects, which makes people think she can't sound good on her own. She sounds absolutely stunning on some of these tracks - probably the best she has sounded in many years. What I find disappointing is the choice of tracks. The Name of the Game will always be one of their worst ever singles. It's so dull. Not even Cher can do much with that. I also could have done without Dancing Queen, as it's their most overrated track. It's just not a very good song. And Waterloo, which is abysmal. If she'd swapped them out for Lay All Your Love On Me, Summer Night City and Angeleyes, oh lord we'd have a masterpiece on our hands. We better get a volume 2.

The finale was great TV. And Rita....OMG. That was absolutely epic.

Most of the highest praise is coming from the most well respected movie critics too. There are genuine expectations of multiple Oscar nominations with Variety (I think) suggesting it could take all 5 of the main trophies. It'd be only the 3rd movie ever to do that. Definitely don't want to pin hopes on that at this stage, but everyone can't be wrong. I think now it's an absolute certainty to pick up nominations, it's just whether they'll recognise Gaga or not that's unpredictable. What I will say is that her acting is coming across so natural in the extra clips they've released. I'm very optimistic for this. Oh and I'm ready for The Shallow to absolutely end me.

He talked in interviews about singing and recording tracks, so I assume it'll be him on the non-live tracks on the soundtrack, and I wouldn't be surprised if they slightly alter his voice in the studio to make him sound more like Freddie. I'd imagine the live tracks will be Freddie.

It was number 16 for a whole day. I did not expect to be seeing Cher in the top 20 with an ABBA cover in 2018. I absolutely love this more than I can say. Yes it's gloriously tacky but it's an absolute beast of a song. Her vocal on the chorus gives me life.

That part with Liz made me laugh very loudly. She's been fantastic this season.

Pretty much this. And yeah, Candace was something else. Her speech in the last episode was insane. I loved Rudolf just sitting there, staring her dead in the eyes, not reacting to anything.
  21. They're not my top 2 but out of them Civil War should win. Guardians is fantastic and deserves to finish high, but it's not the best of the bunch.

You'll soon see. There's a bit more to it than the first few episodes show. I absolutely loved this. I knew nothing about it before I watched it and just found it fascinating to see how the defence put their case together and just how it all unfolds in court. To those who have seen it -

It's already out in the US (June 19th) and comes out on July 30th in the UK.
  24. I am not here for this. At all. What they should have done is got Petra Mede on the case, considering she's already done the groundwork for this in recent years. 29tZAqJKtxs aMgW54HBOS0
  25. I was never really going to love this, as it's just not my thing, but it's worse than I imagined. It's just not the type of music I enjoy and definitely not what I like from Leona. If she's enjoying this type of stuff, good for her. I do miss Echo-era Leona though :(
