Should employees be allowed to use social networks in the
Totally agreed. I work part time at Tesco to get a bit of cash and they have come up with a rule that noone is to take more than a 500ml bottle of drink with them whilst they are working because staff were needing to go to the toilet between their breaks and this is clearly not acceptable! They love nothing more than to treat us like naughty school children!

Should employees be allowed to use social networks in the
To be honest I wouldn't really find much need to be online constantly at work; but I would hope that if I needed to go online for a minute I would be allowed as I would be trusted that I was not letting it effect my work. And if I got my work done then I would have a few moments spare to do it. And yes, if I don't get my work done in a day it spills over into 'my' time.

MIA: Lily Allen's 'lucky' birth
she might be lucky to have keith allen as her dad (i knew who he was long before her of course, and then it took me quite a while to put them together!!) they've both got the same sense of humour i think! but i think that she has got talent as well.

8 Out of 10 Cats- Big Brother Special- 10.00PM!
I think the complete opposite. I love 8 out of 10 cats. But I felt like the whole show was pandered towards Charlie (who was so irritating!) and that any jokes the regulars made fell flat because the BB contestants where so thick!

Should employees be allowed to use social networks in the
surely we should be trusted by our employers enough to take responsibility for our choices/actions?!

Will Madeleine McCann be found?
Yeah - I go agree that they acted irresponsibly and foolishly, but some people seem to think that that means they had it coming and as people have said they will never ever forgive themselves and I think that is punishment enough.
-
Will Madeleine McCann be found?
I admit that they do have a lot of responsibility in what happened - I can completely see that what they did was utterly stupid. I just think that they never going to forget that guilt and stop blaming themselves and we should have some sympathy with them because what has happened to them is one of the worst things that could happen to a family and even to be honest that is punishment enough for them.

Will Madeleine McCann be found?
Well thanks for that! To be quite honest I think that my parenting skills will be perfectly adequate and if they aren't I doubt it's because of this. Anyhow, I agree that they did a very silly thing. I agree that they should have taken some responsibility for their kids welfare. I accept that any solution would have been better than what they did. However, all I am saying is that it's not always as straight forward as just getting a baby sitter. In the long run, they tried to do what made their kids happiest. I highly highly doubt a group of children all under the age of 5 would have been happy being looked after by a stranger. They failed spectacularily in trying to do the right thing, but I still find it absolutely disgusting that people are saying that they did this intentionally or that they killed their daughter themselves. Try putting yourself in their position. Imagine that you have made the same potentially catastrophic mistake as them. And then imagine when you are suffering from such grief and people think it is you. Why would you purposefully do something so disgusting? Can someone actually explain what the purpose of them killing her themselves is? Think about it. There is absolutely NO rhyme or reason to that. Who would be sick enough to do that. And actually I think that the fact they were middle class had very little to do with it - I think that the papers love nothing better than a good sob story and they would pick up on the same story regardless.

Should employees be allowed to use social networks in the
to be honest, there aren't that many workplaces where i think this would be a problem. i've had two part time office jobs, both for equestrian insurance companies. one was quite big and had a large team and one is up and coming and only have a full time team of about 10 people. but both were very relaxed environments in which i had internet access (which was not necessary for about 70% of my work). It was quite normal to pop online to check your emails or whatever. I didn't have anyone peering over my shoulder, but presumably thats because I could pop online between answering phone calls and carrying on with my work and it didn't effect me. Surely if it was effecting my work then someone might have addressed it? On the other hand, I now work part time for Tesco which is obviously a massive massive company. And they have to make so many stupid rules (for example I am only allowed to have a 500ml bottle of water with me in my shift because staff were taking too many toilet breaks!) To me, restricting internet access is like that - they are rules which are turning us from people into efficient robots!!

Under-10s 'behind 3,000 Crimes'
I think in terms of gangs and 'estate mentality' the elder members get the youngest to do the dirty work as they cannot be prosecuted. putting the youngest in prison won't be the answer.

Should employees be allowed to use social networks in the
totally agreed! i don't get paid for my breaks so (within reason) i will do what i like in them. my workplace recommend that people do not smoke (even outside) as there are a lot of customers and potential customers around, but they cannot stop people from what they do in their own time.

Will Madeleine McCann be found?
as i said earlier - hotel babysitting services have had quite a lot of bad press. and i don't disagree that they should have taken responsibility. but i do think that they did not set out intentionally to harm anyone they just acted irresponsibly and possibly with that that great human "it won't happen to me" thought in mind.
-
Will Madeleine McCann be found?
hotel babysitting services are quite special in itself - i would look seriously into it before i left children with strangers in a foreign country (there is a lot of talk that they don't stay with the children, don't speak any language other than their own etc). although i totally agree that they should have taken responsibility for their kids - either some of them should have stayed at home with the kids or they should have taken them - simple as!

Will Madeleine McCann be found?
and then you bring about the issue that the McCanns had. Do they really want their children seeing/hearing this behaviour? I agree with you that in a pub environment (with the exceptions of Sunday lunchtime etc) I don't expect to see kids around and it would be the wrong place for them. Whilst the McCanns did not do the right thing, this is the problem. Taking young children out to a pub is unfair both on the children and on the other pub goers. Although it begs the question that there must have been somewhere more appropriate to go? It was a holiday resort afterall!

Will Madeleine McCann be found?
I think that she won't ever be found and sure - the parents made a catalogue of unprecedented errors, but they are probably blaming themselves enough and I highly doubt that they would have purposefully put themselves or their daughter through such hell.

We should! All I was meaning is that the government (IMHO) are increasingly keen on nannying us to the nth degree taking decision making out of our lives!

What should be done to deal with teenage drink-driving?
that annoys me so much!!

What should be done to deal with teenage drink-driving?
The consequences of killing a car load of mates might effect them more than having their license taken away. I know that sounds horrific and harsh, but it is far more likely to happen if you are under the influence of drugs/alcohol. I would never dream of going near my car once I'm drunk. If I'm driving I rarely have one drink, let alone go over the legal limit. It is this idea that people think that they are invincible. I know someone who always drives once they've had more than a few pints. The excuses are endless "It's not very far". "I drive along this road everyday, it's hardly going to change". "I can't be arsed to get a cab and come back for my car". "I don't even feel drunk". "Are you saying I'm a bad driver?!" It's pathetic!

Should employees be allowed to use social networks in the
totally agreed. it's like all things - if you work hard and efficiently then you gain certain privileges, but of course if they are abused then you won't be trusted with it again. but then i'd hardly be surprised if the government didn't do something about it...they seem so keen on banning anything and everything that isn't 100% good for us/productive :(

Tobacco Purchase Age to be Raised
I work part time at Tesco and apart from one tiny tiny sticker by the cigarette kiosk nothing has been said about this - they are being very quiet and sneaky about it. I don't think it'll change much. Back when I was at school the sixth formers/those who looked over 16 used to buy cigarettes and sell them to the 11 - 15 year olds anyway for extortionate prices like £1 a fag!!! I think that the smoking ban will have more effect than this.
