  1. I don't think The Killers have been mentioned on this thread yet, but they've had three records peak higher than "Mr Brightside", only one of which ("Human") is anywhere near as remembered (in my opinion anyway)
  2. Jason Derulo - Want To Want Me - (46 Weeks) 06/06/2015 -{1}-1-1-1-3-8-15-12-16-13-16-15-14-18-22-28-32-31-33-36-37-41-44-42-54-67-76-81-65-78-79-63-65-86-91-76-78-72-82-91-96-91-88-97-94-x(2)-86

I don't think it fell very quickly at all. Seventeen weeks Top 40 after dropping down from Number One.

  3. And the number twos...

    1962 - Chubby Checker "Let's Twist Again"

1967 - Tom Jones "I'll Never Fall In Love Again"

1973 - Gary Glitter "Hello Hello I'm Back Again"

1980 - Billy Preston & Syreeta "With You I'm Born Again"

1994 - Toni Braxton "Breathe Again"

2012 - Alyssa Reid featuring Jump Smokers "Alone Again"

And no, "Against All Odds" and "Me Against The Music" don't count!

  4. I said above I'd next update his when "Blinding Lights" climbed into to the top ten, well I underestimated "Dance Monkey"'s longevity, for it is the Australian challanger rather than the Canadian one which has overtaken "Sex On Fire"

"Drivers License" is now on 15.2892 and in about 1473rd position, "Wellerman" has just over 10 points and ranks in the 3700s.

At the other end of the scale, "Follow You" by Imagine Dragons may be the first 0.01 scorer of 2021 if it doesn't make another appearance in the chart.

  5. 'Martin & Gina' still not even going to DCL-1 despite falling 5 places this week - I doubt it'll be dropping out of the top 100 until it eventually hits ACR at this rate so it's probably coming to get to 22 weeks top 100 minimum with a peak of #54, that has to be approaching some sort of record if it's not one already!

Peak outside Top 50 and more than 20 weeks top 100

"Jumpman" by Drake & Future, peak 58, 29 weeks

"Lollipop" by Mika, peak 59, 22 weeks

"Butterfly Effect" by Travis Scott, peak 57, 22 weeks

"A-Punk" by Vampire Weekend, peak 55, 21 weeks

  6. Well the expected change in leadership happened, and "My Way" dropped from No. 1 to No.3 in one fell swoop. Also as a bonus "Thinking Out Loud" consolidates its No. 6 spot by picking up a little fraction of a point.

"Dance Monkey" and "Blinding Lights" are still racking up points while another random re-entry, "All of Me" by John Legend is at No. 16

For reference, "Drivers License" is at about No. 4572 so it has got a long way to go yet to make this list.

I'm not going to update this every week, but will do so as and when somehing notable happens, probably "Blinding Lights" making the top ten.

I've been following this for a little while since seeing one or two of Dan's threads relating to ranking chart runs in accordance with the modified version of Polyhex's points system and thought it deserved a thread of its own rather than piggy-backing on an existing thread.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a reminder, the points system works like this:

    ((101-Position)/100)+(2.718^(-Position/2))

An explanation of the formula (Polyhex):

    ( 100 +1 - Position ) / 100 )

This reverses the chart position and divides it by 100 so we don't end up with large points when they're all added together.

Therefore a #1 position in the top 40 get 1 point and a #100 position will get 0.01 points.

    ( 2.718 ^ ( -Position / 2) )

This adds an extra few points to the top positions so they are weighted more.

    --- Therefore a #1 position gets an extra 0.61 points, a #2 gets 0.37, a #10 gets 0.007. After #10 these values become miniscule.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For ever and a day, "My Way" by Frank Sinatra has been number one. But not for long. After this week's chart (i.e. that for w/e 18/2/21), I have the top of the table looking like this

Rank Artist Title Points Peak Weeks on chart First Week Last Week

    1 Frank Sinatra "My Way" 83.4962 5 133 05/04/1969 08/08/1998

    2 Ed Sheeran "Perfect" 83.2173 1 159 16/03/2017 18/02/2021

    3 Lewis Capaldi "Someone You Loved" 83.1574 1 107 22/11/2018 18/02/2021

    4 Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl "Fairytale Of New York" 78.8711 2 109 05/12/1987 07/01/2021

    5 Mariah Carey "All I Want For Christmas Is You" 77.7519 1 101 10/12/1994 07/01/2021

    6 Ed Sheeran "Thinking Out Loud" 69.2345 1 118 05/07/2014 06/07/2017

    7 George Ezra "Shotgun" 68.8735 1 121 05/04/2018 10/09/2020

    8 Ed Sheeran "Shape Of You" 66.4549 1 97 19/01/2017 23/05/2019

    9 Snow Patrol "Chasing Cars" 65.3433 6 166 29/07/2006 25/10/2014

    10 Kings Of Leon "Sex On Fire" 64.1237 1 124 20/09/2008 26/01/2013

    Red=in current chart, Green=charted since 1/1/21, Blue=charted in last 12 months.

For ages it looks like "Perfect" was going to be the song to dethrone Ol' Blue Eyes, but since it hit ACR, the North of the Border challenge from Lewis Capaldi has got stronger and stronger and now there's virtually nothing in it.

My database is still incomplete for the 76-100 positions before Feb 98 but I don't think anything else will affect the Top 10, although some of the Oasis tracks stuck around the lower reaches of the charts seemingly forever.

"Dance Monkey" and "Blinding Lights" are 11 and 13 in my listing, but with quite a gap to No. 10

"Last Christmas" would be No. 6 with 71.3588 points if you include the time spent as a Double A-Side with "Everything She Wants"

The lower you go down the more inaccurate the overall positions will be due to the missing data mentioned earlier

  11. AGGRO SANTOS

Brazilian male rapper, born Yuri Santos, 12/10/89

15 May 10 Candy (Aggro Santos featuring Kimberly Wyatt) 5 18 wks

    04 Sep 10 Saint Or Sinner 19 4 wks

29 Jan 11 Like U Like (Aggro Santos featuring Kimberley Walsh) 8 5 wks

    Total Hits : 3 Total Weeks : 27

A rare Brazilian entry into the UK charts although he had been long resident in London.

He must have had a thing for Kim W's, as the featured artists on his two biggest hits are Kims Wyatt (Pussycat Dolls) and Walsh (Girls Aloud)

As the current series of "I'm A Celebrity..." is just starting, I had forgotten that Santos had appeared on the 2010 series, finishing 6th (the top two were fellow chart stars Stacey Solomon and ex-Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder)

  12. LADY ANTEBELLUM

American male/female vocal/instrumental group - Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley & Hillary Scott. They have won 7 Grammy awards out of 13 nominations

    08 May 10 Need You Now 15 46 wks

    27 Aug 11 Just A Kiss 78 2 wks

    Total Hits : 2 Total Weeks : 48

It's never been easy for American country artists to have a sustained UK chart career, but plenty have had the odd hit here or there and Lady Antebellum are one of those acts.

It took over two years after the chart debut for "Need You Now" to reach it's UK peak, and even that was nearly a year after the original US release. The song made No. 2 in the Billboard Top 100 and topped their genre charts for Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40 and Hot Country Songs, and fininshed 2nd in the Billboard 2010 year-end chart.

They changed their name to "Lady A" in June 2020 due to the association of "Antebellum" with the slavery era of the Southern United States.

  13. JODIE CONNOR

    British female singer, born 8/5/81

08 May 10 Good Times (Roll Deep featuring Jodie Connor) 1 18 wks

29 Jan 11 Now Or Never (Jodie Connor featuring Wiley) 14 4 wks

05 Mar 11 Bring It (Jodie Connor featuring Tinchy Stryder) 37 6 wks

    Total Hits : 3 Total Weeks : 28

Jodie was closely associated with the 2010-1 British Rap Scene, all three of her chart appearances are joint credits with artists from that genre.

Several years before, she was a contestant in the early stages of the 2nd series of "Pop Idol", the one won by Michelle McManus but was eliminated before the final 12

After her hits, she just seemed to fade away. Wikipedia mentions a couple of singles in 2012 (including one featuring Busta Rhymes) that did nothing, and one more in 2016 but that's about it.

  14. FYFE DANGERFIELD

British male singer/songwriter/guitarist, born Fyfe Antony Dangerfield Hutchins, 7/7/80. He is also the lead singer of the Guillemots

    08 May 10 She's Always A Woman To Me 7 18 wks

    Total Hits : 1 Total Weeks : 18

The Guillemots had five top 50 hits between 2006 and 2008, with the highest peaking of them being "Get Over It" making No. 20 in 2008.

Lead singer Fyfe Dangerfield beat that when his cover of a Billy Joel song made the top 10 after being used in a John Lewis advert.

Joel's version was also in the charts at the same time. For the week they both entered, Joel was No. 25 and Dangerfield was way down at No. 99, but the week after the relative positions were flipped and the Englishman's version became the better seller.

  17. I'm actually very excited about this weekend as for the first time in my life my hometown team will be playing in the cup proper and it's on the telly too. Yes, I'm talking about Tonbridge

That didn't go to well for the Angels, did it?

  18. Ouch, lots of meh songs only saved by Madonna and Berlin

Madonna is the best by millions, still love the song, genious lyrics and amazing melody

Always loved Take my Breathe Away too, even bought the album as a kid back in the day

The Berlin "Count Three & Play" album was very good, "Take My Breath Away" was probably the lowlight of the whole record. "Like Flames" was the best track.
