  1. Number one is the fact she is leaving and we'll hopefully get a more professional broadcaster to do the job.
  2. The new bod has got to be better than Jameela and Reggie, almost certainly. I will still be listening.
  3. Please no. The Top 40 chart show should be that - the Top 40. By all means focus on the 75-41 section maybe in the half hour before the chart, and have a separate albums segment, but please leave the basics of the Top 40 show alone.
  4. i visited two supermarkets this morning - Sainsbury's had a note up promoting Band Aid 30 but not copies of it visible to purchase, and at Morrison's I couldn't find any reference to it or any CDs at all.
  5. Hopefully she is more professional than the current presenter
  6. He is favourite, but only marginally, and I think favouritism changed hands 3 or 4 times last night.
  7. No, I take it Andrea is a bloke then! Fleur East (who I'm pretty sure is a woman!) is now slight favourite across the board.
  8. And just to show how quickly things can change, two bookies now have them as joint favourites and one has Fleur has a marginal "jolly". Even Andrea has seen her odds drop to 14/1
  9. Latest odds (best odds available via oddschecker) Ben Haenow - 5/6 Fleur East - 7/5 Andrea Faustini - 16/1 So Ben is definitely the favourite at the moment, with the odds trending in his favour with every single bookie listed. Of course, as someone mentioned, favourites don't always win.
  10. The independent chart was never intended to relate to genre though. It was always meant to be a publicity tool for independent labels
  11. How something that might or might not get to the Top Ten is "slaying" anything is beyond me.
  12. The UK.
  13. We come to the end of the J's and as per the first two, we have a legend included in this batch. Sir Tom Jones is the legend in question. Still a major name after 50 years in the business, and a 40-year spread of Number Ones puts him in a very small club indeed. It's a big drop off then to 80s man Howard Jones, the 70s king of double entendres Judge Dread and the group who've got "Glee" to thank for most of their UK sales, Journey. If you're keeping up with the Joneses, we have a number one from Jimmy, the bizarre-ness ofo Grace, the schoolboy chorister Aled and producer extraordinaire Quincy. Three other acts from this group topped the charts and they can't be much more different - The Johnston Brothers, The Justice Collective and Junkie XL.
  14. Why are X-Factor allowed to rig the charts by declaring the performances ineligible anyway? They seem to want their cake and eat it by getting people to buy them but not letting them appear in the charts

"Fairytale Of New York" but mostly for Kirsty MacColl, rather than the Pogues
  16. After last week's batch featured Michael Jackson, two more of the mega-big names from UK Singles chart history appear in this little lot. Reg Dwight, or Elton John has racked up over 600 weeks on the chart, while Shawn Carter, or Jay-Z is now over the 500 mark. Elton was famously one of the most successful singles acts without a solo number one for some time, but has since put that right and counting time with various collaborations has 23 weeks at the summit. Jay-Z has 15 weeks at the top split across 4 records, but the bulk of them come of course from "Umbrella" Who else is here? Billy Joel has next most weeks on chart, followed by Johnny & The Hurricanes whose last hit was before I was born, let alone most of you readers! Carly Rae Jepsen shone for a few months, Jive Bunny irritated most of us for a couple of years, Jethro Tull have been around forever and the Jesus & Mary Chain's innovative early singles led them to develop a fan base which kept them going for over a decade The only other Number One act here is Holly Johnson, whose solo work never got anywhere the brilliance of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, while Jeremih's presence in this batch brings the group bang up to date

I also credit the Shadows with a bunch of Number 1 weeks when credited alongside Cliff Richard

Madonna did a version of "Santa Baby" that knocks Kylie Minogue's version deep into the Arctic Tundra. The Beatles did Christmas EP's from 1963-1969 which were for distribution to their fan club, containing a mix of songs, some Christmas carols and spoken word greetings.

Haven't seen it mentioned this year, but there are going to be 2 seasonal Top Of The Pops programmes - as per hmv.com "Ed Sheeran, Take That, George Ezra and Charli XCX are among the artists who will perform on two Top Of The Pops Christmas Specials next month. There will be two special festive instalments of the show, one on Christmas Day (December 25th) and another on New Year's Eye (December 31st). Ed Sheeran, Ella Henderson, George Ezra and The Vamps will all perform on both Christmas Day and New Year's Eve shows. Tom Odell, Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne, Mr Probz, Sigma, Gordon City feat MNEK, Rixton and Take That will also perform on the December 25th show, which will include the Christmas number one. The Script, Labrinth, Professor Green and Tori Kelly, Charli XCX and La Roux will then perform on the December 31 instalment, as well as the returning Sheeran, Henderson, Ezra and The Vamps. Both shows will be shown at 2pm. Top Of The Pops was broadcast weekly between January 1964 and July 2006, when it was cancelled by the BBC. It now returns only for one-off specials and repeats." And yes, they did call it New Year's Eye. La Roux is a bizarre booking.

Or better still, running from 1 Jan-31 Dec. It surely can't be beyond the whit of the OCC with all the computerised returns to have an annual chart based on solely sales within that year?

X-Factor winner now 2-1 on as best price for Christmas Number 1 according to Oddschecker Other artists where a reasonable number of firms have quoted odds (best prices) 11/4 Band Aid 30 12 Peace Collective 25 Bruno Mars 33 Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams 40 Pixie Lott, Jessie J, LFO, Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett 50 One For The Boys, Boyzone, Iron Maiden, Madfish, Rihanna 66 One Direction 80 Ariana Grande 100 Tom Odell, Gloria Jones, Adele, Ed Sheeran, Idris Elba & Co, Ella Henderson, Mariah Carey, Take That and a host of others.
  24. Welcome to the "J" thread. Phrases like "All time Legend" and "All time great" are sometimes overused to the point where they are so watered down they make little sense. One of the artists in this batch certainly qualifies though - Michael Jackson. Very few acts since the inception of the charts have had so many hits, so many weeks on chart (both in singles and albums) and as much influence on the development of music in the industry and on the public as a whole. Second on "weeks on chart" in this batch is his sister Janet, who has had a very good career without ever being considered on a par with her big brother and may unfortunately eventually be more remembered for her "wardrobe malfunction" than her music. The family group (originally the Jackson 5, later the Jacksons) add another large batch of hits including a number one, while the guy who left in between the Jackson 5 becoming the Jacksons, Jermaine, clocking in with a few of his own. Outside those originating from Gary, Indiana, Jessie J has turned into a real Marmite act, The Jam were the biggest act around in their heyday, Jamiroquai went with the trends for a decade or so putting together a nice discography, and JLS were perhaps the first of the current crop of reality-TV created boy bands that pumped out a quick succession of records virtually indistinguishable from each other. Another X-Factor alumnus, Leon Jackson, also appears in this group but with only two hit singles he is lost within the general mass of Jacksons. Ja Rule appeared on a number one but was never as big of a star in the UK as the US, Jamelia came and went, on and off, for a little while before making for TV, both James & Japan were favourites of the music press, Mick Jagger is better known as a member of the Stones than his solo work, and Jean Michel Jarre has performed numerous live shows on a truly vast scale.
