DIANA VICKERS British female singer/songwriter, born 30/7/91. She finished 4th in the 2008 series of "The X Factor" 01 May 10 Once 1 11 wks 17 Jul 10 The Boy Who Murdered Love 36 6 wks 30 Oct 10 My Wicked Heart 13 4 wks 03 Aug 13 Cinderella 76 1 wk Total Hits : 4 Total Weeks : 22 rpkxgDpCyAc He4vgqumVKE Another of my favourites. I don't watch the X-Factor or other similar talent shows very much, but I saw one of Diana's performances on Youtube (probably "Hallelujah" or "White Flag") and I was hooked. Although she might not have had a successful career as Alexandra Burke, Diana's "Hallelujah" knocks socks off Alexandra's. By the time the second album came around, unfortunately the music business had moved on to other performers and when lead single "Cinderella" could only get to No. 76, the writing was on the wall. Shame, because there were some very good tracks on the "Music To Make Boys Cry" album that with the right kind of promo could have done much better. (She of course had a second number one as part of the X-Factor finalists mangling of Mariah Carey's "Hero")

Some interesting featured credits, with the Professor appearing on both side of the word "featured", with a few of them making their only UK chart appearances (Sierra Klusterbuck, a.k.a. Sierra Kay), Ruth-Anne (a.k.a. Ruth-Anne Cunningham) and Alice Chater (not a.k.a. anything else at all as far as I know) I've been "on record" in a number of places saying how much I dislike songs which are basically a rap with a sung bit tacked on (or vice versa) as they don't compliment each other, but "Lullaby" is perhaps one of the few where it works.

ELIZA DOOLITTLE British female singer, born Eliza Caird, 17/4/88. She is the daughter of Francis Ruffelle 24 Apr 10 Skinny Genes 22 15 wks 17 Jul 10 Pack Up 5 32 wks 23 Oct 10 Rollerblades 58 3 wks 11 May 13 You And Me (Disclosure featuring Eliza Doolittle) 10 20 wks 10 Aug 13 Big When I Was Little 12 5 wks 26 Oct 13 Let It Rain 55 1 wk Total Hits : 6 Total Weeks : 76 qxqtnWwLxYI fPt-hkcvoJ0 A second generation hitmaker, her mother Frances Ruffelle was a West End and Broadway actress who won a Tony award in 1987 for her performance in Les Misérables, and sang for the UK in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest finishing in 10th. Ruffelle's mother and therefore Eliza Doolittle's grandmother is Sylvia Young OBE, the founder of the famous theatre school in London Eliza also had a role in Les Misérables during 1996-7 playing the young Cosette. Her singles chart career was based mainly around a number of quirky performances but was also a featured vocalist on a dance tune by Disclosure Not much has been heard of her since 2013, but she did release an album just as "Eliza" called "A Real Romantic" in 2017 but neither the album nor any singles made any chart impact. She does have a number one single on her CV though - she was part of the Justice Collective for their recording of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" which was the 2012 Christmas number one.

I've never known CNN be so brutal towards a President. They're refusing to read out Trump's tweets as they're so full of lies and untruths. Biden up in Nevada by 11K, Arizona by 47K Trump up in Pennsylvania by 18K

Like most rock outfits of the 21st Century, they've been more of an album chart artist than a singles chart one (including "Future Hearts" being a No. 1 in 2015) The band originally got together in High School, and have had the same four-piece roster since 2003. Featured vocalist Victor Fuentes is from the band Pierce The Veil, who have not featured in the UK Singles Chart

2020 United States Presidential Election Thread
Taylor County, Georgia printed their absentee ballot papers in house, but not exactly the correct size so they can't be automatically scanned correctly. They are having to be going through a different machine to duplicate them in the correct size so they can be properly scanned! It only affects a few hundred votes but seems a unique problem to that county

2020 United States Presidential Election Thread
Still over 369,000 votes to add in Pennsylvania. most of them in the Philadelphia region (and primarily Philadelphia County), with a chunk in Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) but some dotted around in more red-leaning counties Should get a decent provisional result tonight (US time) but ballots can still arrive tomorrow and count. Biden to win by up to 100,000 is the latest prediction

2020 United States Presidential Election Thread
Georgia is closer to getting finished, the biggest batch left to process is in Chatham County (about 17000) which has so far gone to Biden 57 Trump 41%. Smaller batches in the Atlanta area in Dekalb and Gwinnett counties, which have so far voted in a similar sort way. Fulton County, the biggest part of Atlanta, where Biden has a higher win rate, is mostly done now. It will go down to the wire, but Biden is looking favourite.

2020 United States Presidential Election Thread
I would be happier if Biden can win one of Pennsylvania, N Carolina or Georgia so as not to be on the exact 270 number. All it takes is then one faithless elector to switch for things to look VERY different in the Electoral College... Georgia could be the one, AP are reporting a gap of 22500 with 2% of votes still to be counted (about 100K). Do we know if these are from Fulton County or elsewhere in the state? It would also give some "wiggle room" in case Nevada (which looks to have been called rather early by some organisations) ends up in the Trump column.

JOSHUA RADIN American male singer/songwriter, born 14/6/74 17 Apr 10 I'd Rather Be With You 11 6 wks Total Hits : 1 Total Weeks : 6 aAJfhZamFmo The album "Simple Times" had been originally released in the US in 2008, but it wasn't until two years later before it got a UK release (in a slightly amended version) His music had been regularly featured on TV shows, particulary "Scrubs" and a video featuring Hayden Panettiere helped "I'd Rather Be With You" to a place very close to the top ten The song itself is pretty standard singer/songwriter stuff.

HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT British male vocal/instrumental group (Nigel Blackwell, Neil Crossley, Ken Hancock & Carl Henry). Their hit came as part of a campaign to keep BBC Radio 6Music on the air. 17 Apr 10 Joy Division Oven Gloves 56 1 wk Total Hits : 1 Total Weeks : 1 JEag0ss9pFU I mentioned a few acts ago that there were two from this sequence of one-hit wonders who had a more extensive career than their singles chart history alone would indicate, and here's the second one. One of John Peel's favourites (they did 12 sessions for him), the two founding members (Nigel Blackwell & Neil Crossley) are still touring as HMHB today, 36 years after their debut. Wiki says they are known for their "satirical, sardonic and sometimes surreal songs" and that about sums them up. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but when they are good they are very good. "The Trumpton Riots" and "All I Want For Christmas Is A Dukla Prague Away Kit" are two of my all time favourites. As mentioned above, their only singles chart entry was a "campaign record", the campaign was successful as 6 Music remains on the air to this day. (Oh and breaking my own rules again but please indulge me - it's HMHB after all, here's a live video for "The Trumpton Riots" from the late lamented TV show "The Old Grey Whistle Test") _ZxkErDC16A

"Mr Brightside", 200 weeks in the 76-100 section of chart
The Killers' epic "Mr Brightside" is, this week, notching up it's 248th week in the UK Top 100, but remarkably exactly 200 of those have now been spent in the 76-100 region of the chart. No. 76 1 No. 77 2 No. 78 2 No. 79 4 No. 80 6 No. 81 7 No. 82 5 No. 83 4 No. 84 6 No. 85 8 No. 86 10 No. 87 7 No. 88 9 No. 89 15 No. 90 12 No. 91 6 No. 92 17 No. 93 11 No. 94 6 No. 95 9 No. 96 10 No. 97 7 No. 98 11 No. 99 10 No. 100 15 I know it is a very good song and performance, but I'm not sure why it in particular still sells/streams enough virtually every week, 16 years on, to make the OCC Top 100 yet very rarely does enough to push into the Top 75. It holds the record for most weeks at all positions from No. 79 downwards with the exception of No. 83, where Take That's "Rule The World" rules the roost with 8 weeks. (The records for positions 79 & 82 are shared) The 17 weeks spent at No. 92 is beaten for any position solely by Frankie Laine's "I Believe" and that song's 18 weeks (in 3 spells) at Number One. The 200 weeks in the lower quarter of the chart is a massive 145 more than any other record, "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol being runner-up with 55 weeks. Only a handful of artists (other than The Killers) have 200 such weeks with all their hits combined. Ed Sheeran leads the way with 336, Drake has 300, Rihanna 250, Chris Brown 202 and Justin Bieber 200. Note: These figures only include data from the start of February 1999 to date. There maybe some artists who may have notched up lots of low ranking weeks before then, but chart runs were a lot shorter in those days so no individual record will come anywhere close to "Mr Brightside" Full chart run : {10}-26-38-60-x(26)-100-x(108)-100-x(2)-99-82-86-82-98-89-84-94-x(4)-91-x(2)-97-99 -x(2)-73-95-81-77-87-92-95-93-91-92-x(6)-86-97-x(2)-76-64-92-x(3)-89-78-90-89-93-82-81-91-x(1)-93 -98-79-100-100-90-87-x(9)-98-89-99-88-98-x(2)-92-90-85-79-86-94-x(2)-91-86-80-88-96-60-73-89-x(4) -99-86-96-90-89-98-98-90-93-87-x(12)-100-70-x(5)-96-x(5)-89-93-x(16)-59-75-x(1)-97-x(118)-48-47-52 -92-x(7)-95-50-47-93-x(1)-58-52-59-82-80-x(13)-79-57-x(20)-98-88-81-84-85-x(2)-87-x(16)-88-x(3)-75 -29-28-36-67-x(27)-92-x(2)-100-94-x(18)-74-x(14)-69-73-88-x(15)-84-x(1)-84-94-x(25)-93-100-53-65-78 -97-x(10)-86-88-84-86-88-92-85-89-90-92-90-89-82-87-85-79-88-89-89-85-83-95-91-99-100-90-49-81-73 -73-80-80-75-85-98-x(4)-95-92-x(2)-95-93-x(1)-80-83-97-90-83-69-55-45-45-53-55-50-89-92-86-96-x(1) -92-91-85-96-72-74-87-96-86-99-92-x(4)-72-x(1)-100-x(1)-98-92-x(2)-96-99-100-x(2)-99-x(14)-99-x(5) -100-x(17)-77-100-100-x(13)-95-x(2)-95-x(6)-54-68-84-90-81-80-83-87-81-98-96-x(1)-100-x(13)-75-x(14) -99-97-93-92-90-93-98-90-85-88-81-72-96-94-95-x(1)-100-94-92-89-89-93-92-89-92-x(1)-96-97-86

The accompanying album did - it went all the way to No. 61! Not much else chart success anywhere, but "Radar Detector" did make the "Hottest 100" poll of 2010 by Australian radio station Triple J which is always a very eclectic listing that I've been using as a great way of finding some interesting music for over 20 years now.

So to the only non one-hit wonder in this run: ADAM LAMBERT American male singer/songwriter, 29/1/82. He was the runner-up on the 2009 series of "American Idol" 17 Apr 10 For Your Entertainment 37 7 wks 10 Jul 10 Whataya Want From Me 53 5 wks 21 Jul 12 Never Close Our Eyes 17 2 wks 20 Jun 15 Ghost Town 71 2 wks 14 May 20 You Are The Champions (Queen & Adam Lambert) 95 1 wk Total Hits : 5 Total Weeks : 17 IsPFDzAGb4A 7LcLqIHzNkY Lambert has successfully completed the transition from reality TV contestant to someone with a long term career, exceeding that of the winner of his series of American Idol, Kris Allen. He hasn't been particulary prolific over the years, this year's "Velvet" being only his fourth studio album, but has successfully carved out a niche working with Brian May and Roger Taylor under the name "Queen + Adam Lambert", all sides making it clear that he wasn't becoming a member of Queen, or being a direct replacement for Freddie Mercury, but working alongside two of the remaining members of Queen (John Deacon doesn't participate). "You Are The Champions" was a "lockdown special", the three parts recorded separately, re-worked version of the Queen classic "We Are The Champions", released to raise funds for the WHO Covid-19 funds for frontline health service workers.

LAURA MARLING British female singer, born 1/2/90 03 Apr 10 Devil's Spoke 97 1 wk Total Hits : 1 Total Weeks : 1 GDJPRRUH07k A big shock here when researching this thread was that this was Laura Marling's only credited dip into the UK Singles Chart. She has six top ten albums (all but her debut). She won the Brit award for Best British Female in 2011, and has been nominated for that same award four other timesFour of her albums have been on the Mercury Music Prize shortlist"Semper Femina" was nominated for a GrammyAll this would suggest she might have picked up a minor hit single or two, maybe from the use of one her songs on an advert or something, but no, not really, as all she has to her name is one week at No. 97 I did say "only credited dip into the chart" earlier as she has two uncredited appearances. "5 Years Time" by Noah & The Whale and "Young Love" by Mystery Jets, both of which made considerably higher than 97.

INNA Romanian female singer, born Elena Apostoleanu, 16/10/86 27 Mar 10 Hot 6 19 wks 28 Aug 10 Amazing 14 7 wks 20 Nov 10 Deja Vu (Inna featuring Bob Taylor) 60 2 wks 21 May 11 Sun Is Up 15 14 wks K15zuILXkP0 VNfFTuIk-dQ Very few Eastern European acts have had long-term UK chart success, including those from Romania. Inna's four hits only rails one other Romanian act, which I'll leave for someone else to guess. "Hot", her debut single, was compared to New Order and David Guetta, while the synthesizer sounds were likened to Boney M's "Ma Baker"! Perhaps it's just better for us to appreciate it for what it is.
