Not necessarily, we've yet to see how long the Bowie records last as potential Top 10 candidates. It's not out of the question that "What Do You Mean" could drop out of the Top 10 this Friday.
  2. Au contraire. There might not be a lot of difference in the music but Mendes does at least sound sincere (and come across as such in the one interview I've seen of him.) With Bieber it just seems like music by numbers, he just turned up, saw the lyrics and sang the songs.
  3. Looks like "Heroes" is number 3 when combined now. Only 2 non-Bowie songs are green on Kworb in the whole Top 55.
  4. I suspect so. Not in the Itunes top 1500 at the moment while over 130 Bowie tracks/versions are.
  5. So sad to hear the news about Bowie. I found the new album to be a bit of a disappointment, but it's going to be interesting to see how may of his classic songs enter the rolling charts and just how high they can get. "Life On Mars" and "Heroes" already making an impact by creeping into the bottom two positions on the last Kworb update.

As always with "consecutive" weeks queries, I'm not quite 100% sure of my methodology, but I think the list goes something like this Frankie Laine - I Believe - Run of 35 consecutive weeks from w/e 11/04/1953 Doris Day - Secret Love - Run of 27 consecutive weeks from w/e 03/04/1954 Frank Chacksfield - Terry's Theme (Theme From "Limelight") - Run of 23 consecutive weeks from w/e 23/05/1953 Mario Lanza - Because You're Mine - Run of 22 consecutive weeks from w/e 22/11/1952 Obernkirchen Children's Choir - The Happy Wanderer - Run of 22 consecutive weeks from w/e 23/01/1954 Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Run of 21 consecutive weeks from w/e 29/06/1991 Beatles - She Loves You - Run of 21 consecutive weeks from w/e 07/09/1963 Mantovani - The Song From The Moulin Rouge - Run of 21 consecutive weeks from w/e 30/05/1953 Eddie Calvert - Oh Mein Papa - Run of 20 consecutive weeks from w/e 19/12/1953 Kitty Kallen - Little Things Mean A Lot - Run of 20 consecutive weeks from w/e 03/07/1954 Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud - Run of 20 consecutive weeks from w/e 18/10/2014 Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around - Run of 20 consecutive weeks from w/e 21/05/1994 Pharrell Williams - Happy - Run of 20 consecutive weeks from w/e 21/12/2013 Justin Bieber - What Do You Mean - Run of 19 consecutive weeks from w/e 10/09/2015 Bing Crosby & Grace Kelly - True Love - Run of 19 consecutive weeks from w/e 08/12/1956 David Whitfield with Mantovani and His Orchestra - Cara Mia - Run of 19 consecutive weeks from w/e 19/06/1954 ...
  7. Depends on whether the OCC change the credit to add him as a featured artist

So, let me see if I'm understanding this. If I were to stream, say "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten, that would count for "Now 92"'s streaming figures and her own "Wildfire" album, plus the singles chart? (only used this as an example as it was the last song that played from my mp3 collection)

  10. Not really to show the "greatness", I really dislike all his material. and I'd rather it be almost any other artist having this success. More to recognise that what's he doing at the moment is statistically extraordinary.
  11. 9 wks Jo Stafford - "You Belong To Me" 8wks Kitty Kallen - "Little Things Mean A Lot" Justin Bieber - "Sorry" Johnnie Ray - "Such A Night" Frank Chacksfield - "Terry's Theme (Theme from 'Limelight')" 7wks Frankie Laine - "Answer Me All-4-One - "I Swear" Pat Boone - "Love Letters In The Sand" Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera - "Moves Like Jagger" Ruby Murray - "Softly Softly"
  12. I think that's stretching it a bit, but it's catchy and inoffensive enough to get to number one, lord knows there's been a lot worse. It's a bit of a 4 out of 10 song for me.

w/e 24/11/81 is a good one, Laurie Anderson leaping to No. 2 with "O Superman", and Toyah, Altered Images, Human League, the Jam and Elvis Costello all inside the Top 10. "Tainted Love" still hanging around at 22 is a bonus.
  14. This thread would make more sense if you listed the whole Top 20 instead of just listing a couple of random changes. For instance, you show "Sorry" moving from 5 -> 4, so presumably something else moved down from 4 to accomodate it?
  15. "Fairytale Of New York" now holds the sole record for No. 13 and the joint record for No. 15. "The Hills" by the Weeknd has equalled the No. 35 record and "Prayer In C" now appears on the list for No. 62. Finally, "Cheerleader"'s 3 weeks at No. 72 joins 7 other records at that mark. Positions 76-100 now checked back to the start of 2010.
  16. As a Christmas present, I've uploaded the current state of play of the Virtual Book of Hit Singles as 4 pdfs Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Some of it is a bit rough and ready, and there is still work to go back and sort out from 2015 while it was somewhat "dormant" - dates of death, million sellers etc. It is still only Top 75 at this point, my capturing of the Top 100 has now got back to the start of 2010 so there's still some way to go before I have the full set of 76-100 to add in.
  17. Early in 2014, a virtually unknown singer was a featured vocalist on a single entering the charts at Number One. Impressive in it's own right, but it's been done before, several times. What hasn't happened before, is that that singer, Jess Glynne, has been on every Top 75 singles chart since, that makes 100 consecutive weeks since her début. Only a very few artists have had 100 straight weeks on the chart, but none following on from their very first appearance RIHANNA - Run of 197 consecutive weeks from week ending 05/09/2009 SHADOWS - Run of 187 consecutive weeks from week ending 02/05/1959 DAVID GUETTA - Run of 148 consecutive weeks from week ending 06/03/2010 ELVIS PRESLEY - Run of 145 consecutive weeks from week ending 23/07/1960 CLIFF RICHARD - Run of 125 consecutive weeks from week ending 02/05/1959 CALVIN HARRIS - Run of 123 consecutive weeks from week ending 18/06/2011 KATY PERRY - Run of 120 consecutive weeks from week ending 26/06/2010 BEATLES - Run of 105 consecutive weeks from week ending 13/10/1962 PHARRELL - Run of 103 consecutive weeks from week ending 20/04/2013 BRUNO MARS - Run of 100 consecutive weeks from week ending 29/05/2010 JESS GLYNNE - Run of 100 consecutive weeks from week ending 01/02/2014 I didn't find this by originally looking for Jess Glynne facts, I was wondering how may consecutive charts Ed Sheeran had been on. This is Ed's 90th, which also puts him behind SHADOWS - Run of 99 consecutive weeks from week ending 01/12/1962 RIHANNA - Run of 98 consecutive weeks from week ending 19/05/2007 LADY GAGA - Run of 95 consecutive weeks from week ending 10/01/2009 ELLIE GOULDING - Run of 92 consecutive weeks from week ending 06/10/2012 EMELI SANDÉ - Run of 91 consecutive weeks from week ending 20/08/2011 And one other thing about Ms Glynne's run, she hasn't needed the chart to be a Top 75 to achieve this, she has spent 100 weeks inside the Top 50, her "worst week" being w/e 22/11/14 when her only entry was "Rather Be" at number 48. There is the possibility of longer runs when Top 100 charts are taken into account, but I haven't added all the 76-100 positions to my database yet, so I've kept to the Top 75 to be consistent (and no, I haven't forgotten the Virtual Book of Hit Singles, this year has been very heavy with other things and it has had to give second best, but data is still being collected and the project will resume at some point!)
  18. Not according to the OCC.

Trouble is if the 2nd single flops, you might not get the chance to release a third single.

It's not that different to when you had to buy physical records/CDs, that record shops had their own charts (e.g. Woolworths, WH Smiths, HMV etc.) Put the ones you expect to sell most of (or have the biggest margin on) in the prime position. I think they (we?) have worked that out, and that's what they like. Like it or not, it's the future.
  21. Alisha's Attic should qualify?
  22. Maybe a 30-second show. And fill with 2h59m30sec of something a little more palatable.
  23. Somebody mentioned Freddie Mercury, how about Queen. Nothing else in their repertoire (or anyone else's really) sounds like Bohemian Rhapsody.
  24. Never streamed (apart from watching the odd one or two on Youtube).
  25. I'd rather they still played the entire chart. If they've only time for 25 records, play the Top 25.
