Also, where's Tommy Sparks?! They'll probably playlist him in the next few weeks.

So, the Fresh playlist had a week off last week. What with so many exciting additions this week, then, I thought I'd bring it to you a day early! Indeed. Afterall, we're merely rich peasants, with a comfy sofa and a telly. The government feed us little bits of information and we're quite happy to content ourselves with Take That, Big Brother and Jade Goody. Also, did you just mention Take That and U2 in the same post?! :o

The biggest flop ever for Take That?! I must say, I'm rather pleasantly surprised to have been one of only three people who correctly predicted this song as a flop. I didn't like it at all, though I don't see how it was any worse than 'Shine', which reached number one. Might this finally be the beginning of the end for the lads?

Thanks for that information. It's probably billed as "The p*ssy Cat Dolls" because that would probably appeal more to the average listener! I think it's certainly fair for Nicole to take said steps - it appears to be somewhat of a one woman band. That said, she couldn't cut it solo, could she?!

I'd just like to address a few points made in the thread here. Capital FM and the Capital FM network of the time definitely playlisted Delta with a few of those songs. I should know, I was working there at the time! I also believe that the GWR networkplayed a couple of those songs on heavy rotation too. Certainly Born To Try, Lost Without You and Innocent Eyes were all played. Radio 1's had a very solid listener base now for a long while now. It slipped down after the "Bannister effect" but has been on an upward trend since about June 2004, according to official stats. See here: http://www.mediauk.com/radio/rajar/309/bbc-radio-1 (market share is the most important denominator overall). I think that the music industry has changed enormously in recent years and its means of exposure have done too. However, throughout all of this, radio has remained probably the most important means of getting your music heard and respected. Radio 1 ought to be playing ALL the best new music and, indeed, breaking it. It also reaches an enormous audience all on its own. That's what makes it so important. However, it would also be fair to say that, for most 'pop' acts, getting playlisted on Capital FM is the most important thing. Capital is the benchmark for commercial radio, which, of course, reaches more listeners than Radio 1 and also reaches the very core audience who will be buying pop records. Getting a slot on Capital means you will get a slot across the rest of the Capital Network, probably on Galaxy and a look-in at the Heart Network, all within the same company. All the other pop station groups usually follow Capital's lead too.

Yeah, it actually was re-released last Monday. Bit late on the playlisting, actually. Great tune, though.

Today the playlist has been copied manually from their last.fm, for ease of time! Sorry about the slopiness with which it thus appears, it's just to save time for myself! Some good additions this week. Of course, Doves, Lady GaGa, Jack Peñate, The Gaslight Anthem and La Roux are all already on ther Fresh playlist, but I think it's testimony to Fresh Radio that they appear to be much more on the ball than Radio 1 now.

Fresh Radio's Main Playlist: Animal Collective – My Girls Bat For Lashes – Daniel Beyoncé – Halo Bleech – Is It True That Boys Don't Cry Britney Spears – Circus Cahill – Sex Shooter Doman & Gooding – Runnin' Doves – Kingdom of Rust Empire of the Sun – Walking on a Dream Esser – Let's Work It Out Frankmusik – Better Off As Two *NEW* Franz Ferdinand – No You Girls *NEW* Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy Grammatics – Shadow Committee Hockey – Too Fake Jack Peñate – Tonight's Today James Morrison – Please Don't Stop the Rain *NEW* Katy Perry – Thinking of You Keane – Better Than This Kelly Clarkson – My Life Would Suck Without You Kings of Leon – Revelry La Roux – In For The Kill Lady GaGa – PokerFace *NEW* Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning Laura Izibor – Shine Marina and the Diamonds – Obsessions Metro Station – Shake It MGMT – Time to Pretend Miley Cyrus – Fly on the Wall My Chemical Romance – Desolation Row Noisettes – Don't Upset the Rhythm Oasis – Falling Down Red Light Company – Arts & Crafts Scouting for Girls – Keep On Walking September – Can't Get Over Shontelle – T-Shirt Skint & Demoralised – This Song Is Definitely Not About You Snow Patrol – If There's a Rocket Tie Me to It Starsailor – Tell Me It's Not Over T.I. ft. Fresh Radio playlisted Metro Station on January 9th! Still, good to see that Radio 1 are now getting behind it too. Looks like it should be the hit that it deserves to be.

Personally I think Peñate is one of the most exciting talents around right now. Doman and Godding - James Doman and the song is a reworking of a classic 90s dance tune which has escaped my mind for the moment. I'll get back to you on that one!

I've predicted top 75 as a protest vote. Mark Owen cannot sing. That should be fairly obvious to anyone. The song is utterly hideous and I can only hope that the public will see sense and shun this disgusting track.

That sounds like wild speculation. I can't see how a band the size of U2 can fail to have success in the album charts, even if they don't do so well singles-wise.

I echo the sentiments of everyone else in this thread. I think Gabriella Cilmi has had a lot of success over her, now with a well established fan base and great recognition of "Sweet About Me". The Veronicas are a band that also have a definite fan base over here despite having never had a hit in the UK. However, you can see here that Fresh Radio have already playlisted "Untouched". I just hope that other radio stations will follow. It should definitely be right up the street of Capial etc.

Good to see The Maccabees, Skint & Demoralised and Jack Peñate added.

Perhaps. I still can't stand Madcon, though!

I'm personally really glad to see a playlist that IS NOT including the likes of Madcon, Akon, Flo Rida, Kardinal Official so heavily. Marina and the Obsessions are a good new band in the vein of Florence and the Machine. Quite remarkably similar, actually. The Veronicas are an awesome two piece from Australia. They're extremely hot twins who make extremely good pop music. The only surprise is that they haven't made it in the UK yet. They're already massive down under and have had success in the States too. Their forthcoming UK tour has sold well, confirming that they have a good fanbase here. I should imagine that this album will see them take off over here.

Correct, the A List is very interesting and rather odd this week.

MW? They are a good band; and it's great to have a good new British rock (I use the term lightly!) band coming through.

It's the official new single. I shouldn't have thought anything will be playlisted unless it has an official release date, except in very much exceptional circumtances.

Sorry folks, a bit late with this week's playlist. I was tied up on Friday and of course the site was changing server when I came on yesterday!
