    - Blur will have a "The Verve" style comeback massive single and album then nothing much else Possibly. I think they could sustain themselves actually. - U2 will have a number one single and album. Quite possibly. - Eminem's album will be number one but it will be Dido style eg. the album will then fall and flop No chance. Eminem's a dead dog. - Alexandra Burke's debut album will beat Leona's record for debut album I think she'll do very well. I'd be extremely surprised if she topped Leona's debut album though. Let's not forget that Leona's success was absolutely gargantuan. - Aerosmith will go to number one in the album's following Metallica and AC/DC I think Aerosmith will, indeed, go number one. - McFly will split in around May time Impossible to say. - Green Day will return with a Kings of Leon style comeback massive single and massive album. They'll have a big comeback, without doubt. - Mika will return and flop I think Mika has taken his time over this second album and I feel as though it could be just as huge as his first one. Let's hope he does well, anyway! Anyway, here are my hot tips for 2009: - Florence & The Machine . Let's get the obvious out of the way first. They've already won the Brit Awards' prestigious "Critics' Choice Award" so Florence is guaranteed some success. 'Dog Days Are Over' showcased the immense talents that the band have to offer. Florence is in the mould of Kate Nash; except Florence is actually good. - VV Brown . Vanessa Brown has got to be THE one to look out for next year. With an amazing voice and some rather hot records to go with it, what could possibly go wrong? "Crying Blood" was released on 7” a couple of months ago and signalled the awesome potential of this girl. Sure to do well next year. - Jay Jay Pistolet . He has already shone in debut single "Happy Birthday You" and it is certainly possible that 2009 could be Jay's breakthrough year. A fantastic singer/songwriter. - Esser . Original and cutting-edge are words banded about all too easily these days, but Esser is deserving of such attributions. 2008 has been a reasonably good year for him with "Satisfied" and "Headlock" both making waves. "Work It Out" is next up for early next year and could be a big'un. - Lady GaGa . The first number one of 2009, methinks. Ms. GaGa will be pop personified next year. - Little Boots . If you like Alphabeat, you'll love Little Boots. Hotter than hot. - Noisettes . As far as I'm concerned, Noisettes squeezed one of the best songs of the year out for 2008, albeit late on - the single being released on December 29th. "Wild Young Hearts" is followed by their new album and 2009 could be their year. - La Roux . A listen to La Roux defines what 2009's chart will probably sound like. - The Temper Trap . The Temper Trap could well restore some decent indie to the charts next year. - Frankmusic . Frankmusic's catchy sound is sure to have you all on your feet next year. - Ava Leigh . This girl's rather an anomaly. She's a Bob Marley influenced ska/reggae singer, yet she's a blonde Cheshire lass. Her refreshing sound could do well next year. - Laura Izibor . Laura Izibvor, Ireland's answer to Aretha Franklin, certainly deserves success next year. Let's hope she gets it! - Jem . The rather odd little Welsh girl Jem, who had a hit with that equally odd track 'They', returns early next year. What you may not know, however, is that she returns off the back of massive chart success across the pond. From the soundtrack of the 'Sex and the City' movie, 'It's Amazing' kicks things off on January 19th. - Paula DeAnda . Paula has been on the scene for a while in the USA and her ridiculously catchy RnB/pop sounds could well make a mark on the UK charts next year too. Look out for 'Stunned Out', featuring Yung Joc. - Johnny Foreigner . A rather cool little band hit our airwaves with "DJs Get Doubts" early next year, after having some success with their debut album. In the mould of Noah & The Whale. - The Rifles . The Rifles have plundered along for some time without quite ever gaining quite the recognition they deserve. Perhaps the release of their new album, coupled with the excellent "Fall To Sorrow" will help them on to Radio 1's playlist. - Red Light Company . Another excellent band to emerge in 2008, Red Light Company could go on to even bigger things in '09. - Lisa Mitchell . Lisa has rather an interesting story. She was born here in England, before moving to Australia at an early age. There she was runner-up on Australian Idol and her inimitable debut album has charmed those down under already. She's now back in Great Britain and her haunting sounds are showcased by 'Neopolitan Dreams', released January 19th. This tune has already featured in a certain washing powder ad and promises to be stuck in your head for a long time. She's an immense talent, in the mould of a Laura Marling, Yael Naim or Regina Spektor. - White Lies . Could get even bigger next year. - The King Blues . Post-punk and reggae rockers King Blues sound fresh and original. 'Save The World Get The Girl' could be a huge hit early next year.
  2. They should have released "Fantastic Six". That might have saved them. Still seems an utterly bizarre decision.

These girls are an absolutely awesome new girl band from the States. They've been making waves back in the USA but I'm informed that Universal are releasing them in the UK first to test the water. I've heard a few of their tracks and have been really impressed. Aside from that, I personally feel they have the charisma, determination and feistiness that a lot of girl bands in the market at the moment simply do not possess. Have a look at their stuff and let me know what you think. I predict a massive hit for 2009! P.S. I should also link their official website.
  4. Not long left for the voting now folks. 00:00 January 1st is closing time.

Looks like it. Looking at Nielsen, it appears that Sugababes - No Can Do was last played on December 20; so read into that what you will: they may still be power-recurrenting the song, or it might now have been dropped completely.

Just edited it again - I had missed out the Esser and King Blues additions. This should be the last playlist before Christmas I believe.

Incidentally, Fresh Radio & Buzzjack's "Hit of the Year" is up in another thread on here.
  23. What's your favourite smash hit of 2008? All of Fresh Radio's thirty most played songs of the year are listed below. They each start on 0 points. Every user has 100 points to use. They can distribute these points by adding or subtracting points from any song. A maximum of twenty of the one hundred points can be used to add or subtract from any one song. Each user is limited to just one action per page. At the end of every page, the ten songs with the lowest scores will be removed, or ALL songs with zero points to their name. In the event of a tie, all songs tied will remain. We will close the voting at 00:00 on January 1st 2009 and reveal the results later that day. So, without further ado, here are the songs from which to choose (songs are listed in alphabetical order). NB. i) Please note that songs in Fresh Radio's 100 most played songs of the year that were not released in 2008, or late 2007, have been omitted from the list for the purposes of this poll. ii) Also note that there are some songs included in the top 100 which were originally released in late 2007. iii) Also note that there might be slightly over 100 songs due to a tie on plays for certain songs. iv) Also note that songs released in the last few weeks may not make the list due simply to the lack of time for airplay. v) Get voting!

That chart always particularly grates on me because they seem to get it badly wrong every year. I voted for Adele, just ahead of Coldplay, for the record.

Oh, I see! Love this new artist Lisa Mitchell. Interesting story of hers, she was the runner-up on Australian Idol at the age of just 15. Don't let that put you off though - she's exceedingly unique and talented in the mould of Laura Marling or Florence from Florence & The Machine. Added to that, she's actually British! She was born, I think, in Kent but moved with her family to Australia at the age of two. She came back here to record the album for the most of this year I believe. I really hope more outlets get behind her new tune "Neopolitan Dreams" because it really is awesome and deserves success. I also really like the new tune by The Noisettes that has been on the playlist for a couple of weeks now - one of the most refreshing and upbeat tunes I have heard in ages.
