Best of 1999
Where do you begin with 1999? ;) I was very much an active single buyer at the time and I was always glued to "The Box" music channel watching all the latest videos with my sister. Britney Spears - "Baby One More Time" and "Crazy" Alice DJ - "Better Off Alone" and "Back in My Life" Honeyz - "Never Let You Down" and "Love of a Lifetime" Destiny's Child - "Bills, Bills, Bills" Thunderbugs - "Friends Forever" ybSkWWbUR3s An obscure song which a friend sent me an mp3 of by "Minty" a while back. It was some Australian kids show about a pop star and this trance song reached the lower elcheons of the charts. It's a trance style song and here is 1.30 mins of it: 0BV12RxtlzY

Best of 1985
My all-time favourite song which holds a lot of special memories to me was released in 1985. It may be seen as a bit corny but it's "The power of love" by Jennifer Rush. Other songs from 1985 I like are: "Maria Magdalena" by Sandra "I wanna know what love is" by Foreigner "Get into the groove" by Madonna "Nikita" by Elton John "I know him so well" by Paige and Dickson "Heaven" by Brian Adams "Private Dancer" by Tina Turner "You Give Good Love" by Whitney Houston "Love is a Battlfield" by Pat Benetar

1984: The Album
The Year of my Birth!!!!!!! My faves of 1984: Ultravox - "Dancing With Tears in my eyes" Jim Diamond - "Should Have Known Better" An obscure track from 1984 which wasnt a big hit in the UK, but in Europe. Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora "When the rain begins to fall" G1E2A4eNsKQ Paul McCartney - "No More Lonely Nights" The Pointer Sisters - "I'm So Excited" - they were so fantastic! Laura Branigan - "Self Control" Cyndi Lauper - "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" Madonna - "Like A Virgin" Queen - "I want to break free" Bronski Beat - "Smalltown Boy" Tina Turner - "Whats Love Got to do with it" Billy Idol - "Eyes Without A Face" Another obscure song from 1984 - "To France" by Mike Oldfield and Maggie O'Reilly. This is so haunting: WUdd9jrTKpw Laura again, with the fantastic "Ti Amo" which only made #100 :( ZyGYoZ_4smc The contender for worst song of 1984 is that god damn awful "Agadoo" song :puke2:

Radio One - End of Year Chart Countdowns online!
I was searching for some info on the music of 1985, and I came across this fantastic little channel on Youtube that has the full Radio 1 UK Top 40 countdown of best selling singles! http://uk.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=ajs41 I heard songs I hadn't heard in a while, and it was interesting to see how back then the DJ's were not the egos of Moyles and Whiley we have now and it was actually the best selling singles of those years with some rarities! It's a shame "Time Tunnel" years on certain stations consist of some of the radio stations overplayed stuff :puke2: Listen if you fancy a REAL nostalgia trip ;)

East 17-f*** That
Care to share how bad they were rhythm bandit? ;) This song is awful. This will flop miserably, though I still have the horrid memory of Brian Harvey's Eurovision pre-selection performance in my head!

Old Disney classics
I liked: Cinderella - Is it me, or does she look like Kylie Minogue? Beauty and the Beast Hunchback of Notre Dame The Aristocats and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves We've got a collection of every Disney classic on VHS which my Nan bought for us and there were all first edition videos too. Kids today don't know what they are missing out on. Give me Cinderella over High School c**p with plastic face Efron anyday!

Culture Secretary calls for the return of a Top Of The Pops
I agree! We need something like this back. I'm sick of the c**p clogging our charts at the moment, and the band-wagon jumpers getting the limelight. TOTP needs to be bought back the basic way it was in the 90s. Not having unfunny tossers like Rufus Hound presenting, Sluttoria Beckham videos and the Star-Bar with hangers on interviews. Just 100% music!

Best of 1986
An underrated song from 1986 - "Sara" by Starship. Made #66 and much better than "We Built This City" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us": ZqRTtkEHrA4 I know it's trashy and sleazy but I do like "Touch Me" by Sam Fox :D MiuimDNlyuQ Contender for worst...... "I need your lovin" by the Human League. It deservedly flopped and it has nothing to it. It makes "Soundtrack of a generation" look like a masterpiece! M1N4X3VMUHI

Awful eras/projects
I found Delta Goodrem's second album very bad. It was like listening to one long song with some of them. I didn't like any of the tracks, and found it very bland. Shayne Ward's second album "Breathless" is rather bland too. It seems as if he was trying to appeal the US market with their by the numbers R and B. Only "Breathless", "Tangled Up", "Damaged", "Stand By Your Side" and "Just Be Good To Me" are the decent tracks. The rest are just bland R and B. I bet this bode well with Leona either. Her new single is awful! A brilliant singer like her is wasted on that song.

What has happened to British music in 2008?
I wouldn't put it past it happening :D Seriously, why dont they make the charts the "Neyo/Timbaland" top 40?

Eurovision 2009 thread
http://www.esctoday.com/news/read/12327 Bulgaria starts choosing for ESC2009 on Thursday!!!!! The standard in their heats isnt the best as they allow EVERY song submitted to be performed. The first semi heat begins then, and one of the songs "I won" is a bit prophetic isnt it ;)

Girls Aloud - The Promise
I don't like the song, but these girls are obviously popular and would get a hit even if they sang the menu at their local chippy ;) I'd say #8

What has happened to British music in 2008?
I'm with you on that Harve. At my second job where I work Mondays, it's usually that playlist at around 2PM! With perhaps "Warwick bleeding Avenue" played twice between 9-4! I think there should be a limit in how many times a day a song should be played, and as what someone pointed out, the French system should be in force where 45% of the songs are home-grown. Also the "time tunnel years", it's always the popular songs which are churned out many times a day to represent a said year, not on obscure track where people can go "Hey, I havent heard this in ages!" I think this has been worse than 2007 musically. There has been little to catch the eye and to get a hit you either have to be: a) American B) Urban c) A big name like Take That, Duffy d) A critics fave "Kings of Leon" e) Produced by Timbaland/Ne-Yo If you meet at least one or two of the criteria, top 5 is yours. Meet 3 to all of them. hello #1! :puke2: It's daft but I miss the days of the late 90s/early 00s where all genres did well, lots of fun music and a new number #1 every week. Even radio was more mixed then. Now it's just bland, bland, bland, bland rubbish.

retro chart..... ten years ago!
1 Melanie B featuring Missy 'Misdemeanor' Elliott - I Want You Back  ---- This summed up her lack of talent. Worse was to come from her..... 2 Robbie Williams - Millennium - I like this one ;) 3 T-Spoon - Sex On The Beach - :puke2: ---- God that song was so annoying 4 B*Witched - Rollercoaster :cheer: --- A cheery little pop song - Whatever happened to these girls? 5 Jennifer Paige - Crush - Cool song. Will always be known as a one-hit wonder. 6 The Beautiful South - Perfect 10 :) - This is OK 7 Boyzone - No Matter What :puke2: - NOOOOOOOO 8 The Honeyz - Finally Found :cheer: - I love this song. A very talented trio of girls and such a beautiful song. 9 Aerosmith - I Don't Want To Miss A Thing :puke2: - overplayed tripe 10 Steps - One For Sorrow - :P It's cheesy but it is a well written pop song. SELECTED FAVOURITES FROM THE TOP 40: 11 Lauryn Hill - Doo Wop (That Thing) - Whatever happened to her? She had a fantastic voice and this song was so funky. 12 Savage Garden - To The Moon And Back :D 13 Lutricia McNeal - Someone Loves You Honey - Whatever happened to her as well? I love this song evern today 19 Manic Street Preachers - If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next :) 20 Sweetbox - Everything's Gonna Be Alright  --- one of the best one-hit wonders. 24 Sash! featuring Tina Cousins - Mysterious Times :yahoo: :cheer: 25 The Divine Comedy - Generation Sex - Eccentric song, but this was hilarious. Juries to return to ESC final in 2009
This is what the contest needs to gain credibility again with the return of the jury system I personally would make the voting 75% jury, 25% televoting but 40/60 or 50/50 would suit me fine to the ground. I am confident now ESC will head West :D

Should I Give Up On CD Singles?
We've three HMV stores in Birmingham City Centre (yes it is a bit much ;), and only the smaller one of the three stocks CD singles, which is near the checkout. Out of those, they were about eight or nine, and the songs that were on sale had been about for quite a fair bit. Zavvi, only has one shelf devoted to singles, and again it was some of the long-stayers and Madonna's new one. I'd rather buy a single than download. I mean if I really like a song or a debut hit or two by a new act, you want to rush out and buy it - not download or watch the video on Youtube all the time! Downloading may be the way of the future plus the generous offers from McFly of giving your album away in the papers but it isnt the same isnt it? I still believe the chart is 100% kosher as it's singles only. Notice the long stayers are the ones that are played to death on the radio?

The Retro thread of HORRORS!
That "Soundtrack of a Generation" is shocking! Especially the cringe-worthy "holy cow" line! I heard they got dropped after that single. Not surprised. Easily the worst single by such a great band.

Shameless
I would love to see this back, but I think the show is a bit strained with the many episodes. I mean most of the Gallagher clan have moved on, meaning the McGuires have took over (not that I mind Jamie ;)) Also I found the storyline with the copper and Debbie the young girl very creepy which shows the shows shine is wearing off. Perhaps limit the series to eight episodes then just bring it back for the odd short run.

Do you like lots of different types of music?
I like: Pop Eurodance Rock - mainly from the 70s and 90s. I absolutely love Glam Rock! Heavy Metal Classical Opera Motown 80s and 90s Soul Some Indie music Electropop Reggaee I even like the odd bit of folk! I am not fond off: EMO - Please! It's too whiney and the people need to lighten up and enjoy life. It's not proper rock music, and without the guitars I am sure they'd be run of the mill boybands. 00s R and B - Too boring, whiney and forgettable. Rap - A bunch of mysgonists and homophobes rapping they've got a big c**k and all this bling. I have to admit, I prefer rap done by a female. Garage Happy Hardcore Protentious bull such as ColdPlay Also don't ostracise me for this but I am not a fan of singer-songwriters such as Duffy, Adele, Gabreilla Climi and the like. The only one I can tolerate is James Blunt.

The Hollyoaks Thread...
This Sasha storyline is really making Hollyoaks c**p at the moment. I'd give the b**ch a months worth of drugs just so she could OD and dissappear off the screen. It seems being a "young Valentine" - the actors playing Sonny and Danny being fired is a bit of a poisoned chalice and is being awarded to youngsters who just get arrogant as they spend time in the soap. What's the betting the actor who plays Danny gets involved in wrong-doing off the set in real life like Sonny did? I hope this Newt thing ends too - lock him up!

The EastEnders Thread
I agree. I'll said it before on other forums and talking to people and I'll say it again - they are turning Eastenders very slowly into The Brannings. Me and my sister were joking that the makers of the show joke to the likes of Shirley, Heather and Big Mo that "it'll be your turn soon", as it seems a lot of characters are pushed into the background or out of the picture completely. Another theory that comes into mind is The Brannings are "marketable". Tanya a rather good looking woman, Jack a good looking bloke - well whatever you want to decide there. Max - the "villian" wanting revenge, Dot the eccentric and lovelable old woman and Stacey - sexy young woman. On top of that Lauren and Abi faces fit as a pair of brats caught in the crossfire. It seems the makers are using these to their advantage over the other soaps as this story and those said characters are their draw to get people to watch it. The thing is, people aren't interested. I really thought after the buried alive story, that would be it and we'd move on from seeing it. Oh no, we have to have Max's revenge, Tanya unwilling not to go without c**k for a while and dating his brother and lord knows what else. It's been nearly two years this storyline has been going on, and it's about time it came to a head. Whats the betting they drag this on until Christmas?
