  7. Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe stays at #1 26 year old Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen stays at #1 for the 4th straight week with Call Me Maybe, after selling over 100k for the last 3 weeks and increasing slightly each week. Carly is currently on a US/Canada tour, after having released her debut album in 2008 Tug Of War, and an EP entitled Curiosity. She is due to release Curiosity as her debut internation album later on this year. Over here, Carly has Tulisa and Cover drive to contend with in order to make it a 5th week at the top. Calvin Harris feat Neyo - Let's Go enters at #2 Dumfries born producer and singer Calvin Harris proves himself as the "king of #2s" as his new single enters there, but is the week's highest new entry and indeed only one to debut within the top 40. Calvin Harris made his debut in 2007 with top 10 singles Acceptable In The 80s and The Girls. 2009 saw him top the charts with I'm Not Alone then hit #3 with Ready For The Weekend, 2 further top 30 hits followed - Flashback and You Used To Hold Me. Last year, he had 2 #2 hits Bounce (featuring Kelis) and Feel So Close. Let's Go features vocals from US R&B singer Neyo, who achieved 8 top 20 hit singles of his own, including 3 #1s since his 2006 debut. This is Calvin's 7th and Neyo's 8th top 10 in total (including Pitbull's Give Me Everything). Alex Clare - Too Close and Train - Drive By climb to #6 and #10 respectively This week's top 40 may be short of new entries, however there are 2 climbs into the top 10. Highest of those is Too Close by Alex Clare as it rises 15-6, whilst Train rise from #14 to equal their highest chart placing yet of #10 with Drive By. Stereophonics, The Fray and Kings Of Leon all re-enter the lower part of the top 40, due to The Voice and 59p price reductions. Also Rihanna and Maroon 5 make a reappearence with their huge million selling hits from last year. Jack White tops the album chart with Blunderbuss Jack White gets his first solo #1 following the disbanding of the White Stripes, with whom he achived 3 top 3 albums including 2 #1s Elephant (2003) and Icky Thump (2007). Adele's 21 is at #2, whilst Lana Del Rey and Nicki Minaj swap places in the top 5 and Jason Mraz tumbles out the top 10. US/Canadian singer songwriter Rufus Wainwright gets his 2nd UK top 5 album as Out Of The Game enters at #5 and shows that he is not! Other new entries this week come from Feeder, Santigold and the Chieftans. Personal Opinion I am happy to see Carly remain at #1 as I don't like all these 1 week wonder #1s we seemed to be getting for a while. I quite like Let's Go, just like the rest of Calvin's work, it is nothing special but quite good none the less. Really like Alex Clare and Train's songs, also good to see oldies from Stereophonics, The Fray and Kings Of Leon come back, pity they couldn't be joined by U2.

  12. Thanks Martin, I've long been a fan of Maroon 5 and seen them live a couple of times. Payphone is really good, but they'll probably never surpass This Love or Moves Like Jagger for me.

  15. Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe stays at #1 Staying at #1 for a third week running is the mega hit that is Call Me Maybe by Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen, having sold over 100k for each of the last 2 weeks. After keeping off her mentor Justin Bieber from #1, she does the same for Connor Maynard. There is stiff competition next week from Fun's We Are Young and Calvin Harris/Neyo with Let's Go. Conor Maynard - Can't Say No enters at #2 This week's hjighest new entry comes from 19 year old British singer Conor Maynard with his debut single Can't Say No. After being discovered on YouTube and gaining significant airplay, hotly tipped teen singer Conor Maynard makes his debut in at #2 this week. This follows on from fellow teen pop star Justin Bieber, who scored his highest peaking UK hit single with Boyfriend. Justin drops to #10 this week, will Conor Maynard repeat the same fate? Well I can't say no to that just yet! Fun feat Janelle Monae - We Are Young climbs to #3 American pop band Fun debuted at #7 last week, 5 weeks earlier than the original UK release date, due to fake cover versions starting to sell significantly. Since the track was released late last Monday, it essentially debuted at #7 on 5 days of sales and thus rises to #3 this week on its first full week available. Fun first formed in 2008 and have released 5 singles in the US but none have charted until this year when We Are Young topped the charts in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. The track is tipped to do the same here in the coming weeks, however time will tell if it can get past Carly. John Legend - Ordinary People climbs to #4 US singer songwriter John Roger Stephens first came to prominence under his stage name of John Legend in 2004 with debut UK release Used To Love U which hit #29. However it was with his follow up hit Ordinary People that he was noticed, despite the track only peaking at #27 originally, it has since become something of a classic. The song was originally intended to be a Black Eyed Peas song, however Will.i.am who co-wrote it decided to give it to John Legend. 2 contestants on The Voice performed the track and as such it has repeaked this week at #4. Jessie J feat David Guetta - LaserLight climbs to #5 Another song to climb massively this week and have a connection to The Voice is the new single from Jessie J, LaserLight leaps up from #26 to #5 this week. Unlike Ordinary People, this song was not actually performed on The Voice but rises due to promotion of the single and the fact that Jessie J is a mentor on the aforementioned show. This follows her chart topping Domino and becomes her 6th top 20 hit, since Do It Like A Dude hit #2 at the start of last year. The only Jessie J single to enter at its peak is the million selling Price Tag, which can still be found inside the top 75 this week. BoB - So Good entrs at #7 In a top 10 with lots of movement, #7 sees a new entry from 24 year old US rapper Bobby Ray Simmons under the name of BoB. After releasing several mix tapes and EPs in the US, BoB first came to UK chart prominence in 2010. This was when he topped the chart with debut single Nothin' On You featuring vocals from Bruno Mars. He followed this up with his second chart topper Airplanes which featured vocals from Paramore singer Hayley Williams. #16 hit Magic followed this, featuring Weezer lead singer Rivers Cuomo. Last year saw him guest on Jessie J's million selling #1 hit Price Tag, however BoB's last single Strange Clouds flopped. Now as the second single from his forthcoming 2nd album, So Good debuts at #7. More people seem to think this single is indeed so good! Marina & The Diamonds - Prima Donna enters at #11 After her trip to Hollywood in 2010, Welsh singer Marina Diamandis has now become a Prima Donna girl as she gets her highest peaking single this week. After appearing on the BBC Sound of 2010 poll, solo act Marina & The Diamonds debuted at #12 with introductory single Hollywood. This was followed up with minor hits I Am Not A Robot (#26) and Oh No (#38), all 3 of which came from her Family Jewels album which has sold not badly in that it was certified gold. Last year, Marina made #25 with the non-album single Radioactive and now hits #11 with the lead single to her second album Electra Heart, due out next week. Train - Drive By enters at #14 US pop rock band from San Francisco get themselves a third UK top 40 hit this week as they drive by and park themselves at #14. The trio have been around single 1994 but did not hit the big time until 2001, when debut single Drops Of Jupiter peaked at #10. Drops Of Jupiter has become something of a classic since then and is currently at #34 following use of The Voice and a 59p iTunes reduction. The band were considered a one hit wonder until last year saw Hey Soul Sister get as high as #18 and actually outsell the aforementioned Drops Of Jupiter. Now they hit #14 with Drive By, the lead single to be taken from their 6th studio album California 37, also released this week. Alex Clare - Too Close climbs to #16 28 year old UK singer songwriter Alex Clare got a debut top 40 hit last week, this week Too Close jumps up a massive 21 places to #16. The pop / drum & bass track has been featured in a TV advertisement for Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser, hence its rise up the charts. This has also helped his album The Lateness Of The Hour, which initially flopped but this week enters at #36. Before commercial success, Alex Clare also dated Amy Winehouse for a period. Linkin Park - Burn It Down enters at #27 US rock band Linkin Park make their UK chart comeback this week as new single BURN IT DOWN enters at #27, oddly stylised in capital letters. The band formed in 1996 and first achieved commercial success in 2000 with their Hybrid Theory album. That album spawned hit singles One Step Closer, Crawling, Papercut and In The End, with each single peaking higher than the one before. Top 10 hits Points Of Authority, It's Goin' Down and Somewhere I Belong followed, as did #15 peaking single Faint. The 3rd single from the Meteora album was Numb which made #14 in its original form in 2003, the following year also made #14 as a duet with rapper Jay Z but proved to be one of the biggest selling non-top 10 hits. Highest peaking hit to date was 2007's #6 hit What I've Done. Linkin Park were last seen in the UK top 20 in 2009 with single New Divide and last in the top 40 2 years ago with The Catalyst only making #40. Now they hit #27 with the lead single to their 5th studio album Living Things. Adele stays at #1 in the albums Not much of note over on the albums side this week, as Adele's 21 remains at #1 with sales of just 17k this week. Jason Mraz gets his highest peaking album to date as 4th album Love Is A Four Letter Word debuts at #2, containing current top 20 hit I Won't Give Up. Train released their album California 37 simulteneously with their Drive By single, with a result of a #10 album entry. Other album chart entries can be found from alternative band Spiritualized, dance producer Chicane and metal band Dragon Force, along with a re-entry from John Legend's Get Lifted. Opinion Whilst Call Me Maybe is not exactly the greatest or most original song, I am still happy to see it stay at #1 for a third week and increase its sales in the process once again. Just as long as it keeps off Conor Maynard from #1, I don't see many redeeming factors about his new song, except that it's not Justin Bieber ... I can and will say no! I quite like that John Legend song now, didn't really care for it when it was first out though. Jessie J's new one is quite good but not a patch on Domino or Price Tag, mind you it does sound like other David Guetta tracks (Titanium, etc). BoB thinks his new song is so good but I don't, I do think that Marina's new one is really good and would have been worth of a top 10 placing over BoB any day. I really like Train's previous singles and Drive By is up there with them, very catchy and good. Alex Clare's Too Close is a bit different, in a good way I think as I quite like the pop and dubstep fusion. Don't care much for Linkin Park's new one, mind you the only one of theirs I have remotely liked is What I've Done. Adele's album is still brilliant but the low album sales are rather worrying.
  16. I'd say #1 next week (too late for this week), hopefully beating Conor Maynard and then Tulisa the following week. I want this to do well as I really love the song now.
  17. Surefire number one I'd say given that it's Dizzee Rascal and DJ Fresh, but front loaded so can't see it that high in the year end chart. Since I generally don't like either artist (mind you I do like Hot Right Now) ... Think #1 and #31-40 year end, but want flop!
  18. Hello GD, Not heard your #1 yet, or Sia, or JLo's ones. I do lke the new Delta Goodrem song, not quite as good as Believe Again (why that wasn't released here is beyond me). 2. 19. Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe enters at #1 New Canadian singer songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen makes her UK debut at the age of , coming straight in at #1 with the hotly anticipated single Call Me Maybe. The single was due to be released in 2 weeks time but the appearence of several fake cover versions have forced the early release (hopefully a message to record companies to stop holding back releases when there is demand). Carly came 3rd in Canadian Idol in 2007 then released her debut album in Canada, which contained 2 minor hits there. Her first worldwide release is Call Me Maybe, the track has been #1 in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and now United Kingdom. Azealia Banks - 212 climbs to #12, Olly Murs - Oh My Goodness climbs to #13 Hotly tipped US rapper Azealia Amanda Banks continues her climb up the charts this week as her controversial single rises 2 places to 12, coincidentally indicated in the track's title "2 12". Meanwhile, X Factor runner up Olly Murs gets his 6th top 20 hit out of 7 releases to date. Following the single release and several live appearences, Oh My Goodness climbs 15 places to #13. There are also several tracks climbing in this week's chart due to the release of the Now 81 compilation and resultant cherry picks. Alex Day - Lady Godiva enters at #15 23 year old London based singer songwriter Alex Day enters at #15 with his 2nd single Lady Godiva, following up his #4 single Forever Yours from Christmas. Both tracks have so far received very little in the way of airplay, instead Alex Day has promoted the tracks heavily through the likes of YouTube and also by releasing several remixes. This helped get debut single Forever Yours to #4, but followed by an unfortunate drop right out the top 100 the next week. Judging by the track's iTunes position and lack of airplay, Lady Godiva is likely to follow suit. The 2 singles comined have sold over 50,000 copies so that is good for an independent artist. The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved reenters at #18 Irish 4 piece The Script make their return to the charts this week, not with a new single but with their 2008 #2 hit The Man Who Can't Be Moved. Frontman Danny O'Donoghue is one of the 4 vocal coachs on new talent show The Voice, alongside Jessie J, Tom Jones and Will I Am. This is a show which sees conestants singing whilst the judges have their backs turned and if they like what they hear, then they turn their chair around with the contestants having the final say as to who they would like as their coach. One of the contestants on this show performed The Man Who Can't Be Moved, hence the track's reentry at #18 this week. Beyonce - End Of Time enters at #39 US superstar singer Beyonce Knowles gets another UK top 40 hit this week as new single End Of Time becomes her 4th official top 40 single (5th including album track Countdown) from her 4th album entitled 4. Beyonce of course made her name as a member of 3 piece girl group Destiny's Child and has since gone on to score 24 solo top 40 hits. This follows on from #11 Run The World (Girls), #3 Best Thing I Never Had, #35 Countdown and #11 Love On Top, and is another track to benefit from a 59p reduction on iTunes. Nicki Minaj tops the album chart US rapper and singer Nicki Minaj released her 2nd album this week, which contrary to the title is a brand new album and not an extension of Pink Friday, Pink Friday : Roman Reloaded becomes her first #1 album. Just behind Nicki at #2 is Syco act Labrinth with his debut album Electronic Earth, featuring top 5 hit singles Let The Sun Shine, Earthquake and Last Time. Adele goes back up to #3 with the ever present 21, following a reshowing on TV of her Albert Hall concert. Music Rox is the debut album and essentially the soundtrack from social networking game Moshi Monsters and comes in at #4. Welsh rock band Lostprophets enter at #9 with their 5th studio album Weapons, falling short of the top 5 peak of their last 3. Other new entries come from Orbital, Graham Coxon, Sean Paul and Killing Joke. Personal Opinion I quite like Carly's Call Me Maybe, it may not be the best or most original song around but it's quite catchy really ... in a good way. I love Olly Murs new song and am happy to see Oh My Goodness get a top 15 peak at least. I really like Alex Day's track Lady Godiva and also love the fact that he can get 2 top 15 hits without anything in the way or airplay or widespread appeal. I really like The Script as well and am glad to see The Man Who Can't Be Moved back in the top 20, looking forward to album #3 now. Finally I really like Beyonce's new track End Of Time, it's a bit different to the other stuff that's around. Also good to see Moves Like Jagger cling on and remain the longest top 40 runner, I'm still not fed up of that song.
