  1. David Guetta feat Sia - Titanium climbs to #1 Another week and another new #1 single then as Cover Drive's Twilight drops all the way down to #6, Titanium climbs another place to make #1. After being released as the 4th single from David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat album, Titanium became its highest peaking single last week and goes 1 better this week. This is now the French DJ's 5th chart topper in total since his 2001 debut. Previous #1 singles were 2009's When Love Takes Over (feat Kelly Rowland), 2009's Sexy Bitch (feat Akon), 2010's Gettin' Over You (feat Chris Willis, Fergie & LMFAO) and 2010's Club Can't Handle Me (Flo Rida feat David Guetta). Titanium was originally a buzz track for the album, as was Turn Me On (feat Nicki Minaj), which re-enters at #33 due to the video for it being released. Alyssa Reid feat Jump Smokers - Alone Again enters at #2 This is another week whereby the mid-week #1 single has not held on, this week it is Alone Again by Alyssa Reid feat Jump Smokers which enters at #2. Alyssa Reid is an 18 year old Canadian singer songwriter, who was first seen as a finalist on the Canadian TV talent show 'Next Star'. She now makes her UK chart debut with Alone Again which samples lyrics from Alone, originally a 1987 hit for US rock band Heart. Alone Again also features US based producing duo Jump Smokers on many of the remixes available. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die climbs to #9 US singer songwriter Lana Del Rey entered at #14 last week with her second single Born To Die and now the title track to her #1 album has climbed into the top 10 at #9. This matches the peak of her debut Video Games, which goes back up again to #17 after a total of 16 weeks around, time will tell if Born To Die can achieve that kind of longevity. RIO feat U Jean - Turn This Club Around enters at #36 In a top 40 chart with only 3 new entries, this is the lowest in at #36 for Turn This Club Around by German dance act RIO. RIO consist of members are DJ Manian (Manuel Reuter), Yannou (Yann Peifer) and Tony T (Neal Antone). DJ Manian and Yannou are 2/3 of dance group Cascada, who had success with such hits as Everytime We Touch and Evacuate The Dancefloor. Yannou was also featured on DJ Sammy's cover of Bryan Adams' track Heaven, a big #1 single in 2001. RIO have released several singles in Germany and Netherlands including Shine On, Like I Love You and Miss Sunshine, this #36 entry Turn This Club Around is their first UK release featuring vocals from US pop / hip hop artist U Jean. Lana Del Rey debuts at #1 with her Born To Die album US singer songwriter Lana Del Rey hits #1 with her debut album Born To Die, which contains the 2 top 10 hit singles as well as some co-written by Fame Academy winner David Sneddon. Another Canadian singer songwriter enters at #2 in the album charts, 77 year old Leonard Cohen with his joint highest peaking album ever Old Ideas, a whole 43 years after Songs From A Room. Other notable moves in this week's album chart include the likes of David Guetta, Christina Perri, Snow Patrol and Drake climbing back up in the top 20. Personal Opinion I am happy to see common sense prevail and Titanium get its rightful place at #1, as I think Alyssa Reid's Alone Again is rubbish and tacky to say the least. Great to see Lana Del Rey get a second #9 peaking single and the #1 album, one of my favourite albums ever. Loving Ed Sheeran's rise with Drunk and Christina Perri's Jar Of Hearts, although I'd rather it be 1000 Years or something newer getting the success now. I don't think much of Turn This Club Around by RIO, sounds like a lesser version of Taio Cruz or Usher. Bracing myself for a crappy #1 next week in the form of Will I Am!

  11. Cover Drive - Twilight enters at #1 Cover Drive are a 4 piece pop group from Barbados whose second UK single Twilight has gone stright in at #1 this week. This follows up their #9 debut hit Lick Ya Down fro last year and comes from their forthcoming debut album Bajan Style, described it as "a beach party in Barbados" due for release shortly. Coming in just below Cover drive is Titanium, which becomes David Guetta's highest peaking single from Nothing But The Beat and is a possibility to go to #1 next week. Flo Rida feat Sia Wild Ones enters at #5 US rapper Flo Rida gets himself a second top 5 hit of the year with Wild Ones, as he follows up a #1 hit with another top 5 for the first time in his career. Like Titanium at #2, this track also features singer Sia and gets her 2 simultaneous top 5 hits, a whole 10 years after her first. Flo Rida made his UK debut in 2007 with huge #2 hit Low, scored another big hit with #1 smash Right Round in 2009, then in Club Can't Handle Me hit #1 in 2010. The aforementioned 3 hits were followed up with much smaller hits, however Good Feeling climbed to #1 just 3 weeks ago and is followed by this #5 smash. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die enters at #14 US singer songwriter Elizabeth Grant first released an album in 2010 under that name entitled "Lana Del Ray : AKA Lizzy Grant". This was however withdrawn following a record label dispute and she went on to record under the name of Lana Del Rey. Under that name, she made her UK debut with #9 single Video Games which is currently a non-mover at #20 after 15 weeks. Her second single Born To Die debuts at #14 this week with her first proper album of the same name released next week, she is however reported to be releasing the aforementioned Lizzy Grant album later this year. Redlight - Get Out Of My Head enters at #18 Redlight is a London based pop / dance / dubstep artist whose real name is Hugh Pescod who released his debut single in 2010 What You Talkin' About but did not chart. However he enters this week's chart at #16 with dance anthem Get Out Of My Head. Previous single featured vocals from Ms Dynamite, this one features female singer Nicole Jackson on vocals. Ed Sheeran - Drunk enters at #29 Singer songwriter Ed Sheeran had a hugely successful year last year, starting with huge #3 hit The A Team which had a lengthy chart run. His second single You Need Me, I Don't Need You hit #4 and debut album + hit #1, where it returns to this week. Third single Lego House peaked at #5 and is still top 40 this week, enjoying a good long chart run. After performing 4th single entitled Drunk on the Graham Norton show, he enters at #29 this week with a strong possibility of making top 10 in the coming weeks. Professor Green - Never Be A Right Time enters at #32 London based rapper Professor Green follows up his chart topping hit Read All About It with new single Never Be A Right Time, debuting at #32. This is Steven Paul Manderson's 6th top 40 hit since his 2010 debut I Need You Tonight and comes from second album At Your Inconveneince. Ed Sheeran returns to #1 in the album chart Ed Sheeran's + returns to #1 again this week for a 3rd non-consecutive week, following an appearence on Graham Norton's TV show. The only other significant new entry this week comes from Chris Isaak with a covers album entitled Beyond The Sun. There are returns to the top 20 for David guetta and Seal also this week. Personal Opinion I quite like Cover Drive's Twilight, it is far better than the rubbishy Lick Ya Down but still not #1 material in my opinion however Titanium certainly is. I really don't like Flo Rida's new song but I really love Born To Die from Lana Del Rey and can't wait to hear her album. Ed Sheeran's Drunk is a definite highlight from his brilliant + album. Redlight's song is average and far better than Pro Green's ramblings any day!
  12. Jessie J stays at #1 with Domino So Jessie J’s Domino has not fallen down yet as she gets a second week on top of the pile this week. There was not a lot of competition this week, however next week is a different story. There are new releases from Cover Drive, Lana Del Rey and Flo Rida which all stand a chance of setting Jessie’s domino on its way down. Swedish House Mafia vs Knife Party – Antidote enters at #4 Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso get their fourth top 10 single this week, and joint highest charting to date as Swedish House Mafia’s Antidote enters at #4. The trio first charted last year with their debut single release One (Your Name), peaking at #7. This followed nicely by Miami 2 Ibiza which peaked at #4, alongside Tinie Tempah. After travelling all that way, the trio tried to Save The World and made #10 in the process! Antidote also credits Australian duo Knife Party, essentially a side project of Pendulum members Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen. Climbs from David Guetta, Pixie Lott, Kelly Clarkson and Pitbull inside the top 20 There is only 1 new entry in this week’s top 20, however there are a number of significant climbs. David Guetta and Sia move up another 5 places with Titanium to #3, and Pixie Lott moves up to #8, with each beating the peak of their previous single. Singles from both Kelly Clarkson (21-11) and Pitbull / Chris Brown (23-13) rise into the top 20. Cher Lloyd - Want U Back enters at #26 #26 sees a new entry from a UK X Factor contestant, teaming up with a former contestant of the US show. UK contestant Cher Lloyd gets herself a third chart hit this week as new single Want U Back enters at #26. Also featuring on the single is US rapper Astro (Brian Bradley) who coincidentally was a contestant on the US version of the X Factor last year. This follows Ms Lloyds #1 Swagger Jagger and #4 single With Ur Love, all taken from her album Sticks & Stones. One Direction - One Thing enters at #28 Also coming from 2010’s UK X Factor and scoring a third hit is boy band One Direction, as One Thing enters at #28. The group debuted at #1 with the massive selling What Makes You Beautiful and the not so massive selling #3 hit Gotta Be You. Consisting of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, the group’s combined age is 92. Another useless fact about 1D is that their 2011 calendar was Amazon’s biggest selling calendar, beating off competition from JLS and Cheryl Cole. Skrillex & The Doors - Breakin' A Sweat enters at #33 US electronic producer Sonny Moore makes his chart debut as Skrillex at #33, alongside the remaining members of US 1960’s band The Doors. Skrillex appeared on the BBC Sound of 2012 poll and makes his debut with Breakin’ A Sweat, lifted from his EP entitled Bangarang. The said EP is his fifth in total and made an appearance on the album chart at #31, as a precursor to his debut full album. M83 - Midnight City enters at #xx and JME enters at #35 French electro band M83 make their debut this week at #35 with new single Midnight City. The band were apparently named after a spiral galaxy called Messier 83. The group have been active since 2002 but not commercially successful until now, having released 12 singles and 6 albums since. Adele returns to the top of the albums After returning to #1 2 weeks ago and being knocked off by Bruno Mars, Adele’s 21 is back at #1 for a 20t week now. Once more, the midweek #1 album actually enters at #4, rock band Enter Shikari’s third album A Flash Flood Of Colour well and truly beats their last album’s peak of #16 and equals the debut. Florence & The Machine rebound to #8 and Rizzle Kicks continue to climb to #9. Little else of note in this week’s album chart, however things will get busier in the next 2-3 weeks as new albums are due from the likes of Lana Del Rey, Emeli Sande, Bruce Springsteen and Katy Melua. Opinion I am happy to see Jessie J still at #1, as it stops the one week turnover of #1s and it beats Rizzle Kicks. I’m not a fan of Swedish House Mafia or their Antidote song, it is good but just not my thing. Good to see Titanium get as high as #3, I like it and Without You but I haven’t really liked much else from Guetta of late. Glad Pixie gets herself another top 10 hit and Kelly Clarkson looking set to do so next week – 2 of my favourite top 40 hits. Cher Lloyd is still rubbish albeit a little less rubbish with Want U Back and 1D’s new one is forgettable to say the least. I quite like M83’s Midnight City but don’t think much of Skrillex so far.

  15. Thanks Martin
  16. Jessie J - Domino climbs to #1 Jessie J claims her second #1 hit single this week as Domino climbs 7 places to reach #1. This comes with increasing airplay and also after this year's Brit Award nominations, which Jessie features in. This is the 8th different #1 in as many weeks and stands a good chance of staying for a second week, with only really likely competition coming from Swedish House Mafia. Previous #1 from Flo Rida slips to #2 and Mama Do The Hump by Rizzle Kicks rises to#3 just behind Domino. David Guetta feat Sia - Titanium reenters at #8 After hitting #16 as a promotional single for Nothing But The Beat, Titanium re-enters the chart at #8 for David Guetta. This is the 4th straight top 10 hit from Guetta's current album, and 13th in total to officially credit Guetta since 2006. Titanium follows on from last year's Where Them Girls At, Little Bad Girl and Without You. Sia had a #10 hit with Taken For Granted in 2000 but no other hits followed until now for the Australian singer. Beyonce - Love On Top climbs to #13 New mother Beyonce continues to rise up the charts slowly and steadily as Love On Top proves to be something of a slow burner. This is the 4th single from the album 4 which is currently just a place below #4 in the album chart. The lead single was #11 hit Run The World (Girls) which makes a reappearence in the top 100 this week, followed by the massive #3 hit Best Thing I Never Had which has been seen hovering around just outside the top 40. Countdown on the other hand only made #35 but is nowhere to be seen in the top 100 this week. Pixie Lott - Kiss The Stars enters at #14 Another popular female singer on the rise this week is Pixie Lott who gets a new entry into the top 40 for her new single Kiss The Stars at #14. This marks Pixie's 9th UK top 20 hit out of 9 full releases and comes after the #1 hit All About Tonight and #10 hit What Do You Take Me For? Both previous hits were fairly short lived and the parent album Young Foolish Happy has underformed somewhat, so the success of this single may be surprising. On the other hand, the song was performed on Dancing On Ice and has also been reduced to 59p, as well as airplay kicking in. Kelly Clarkson - What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) enters at #21 Another new single by a female singer to receive a boost into the top 40 this week is the title track to Kelly Clarkson's current album Stronger, actually entitled What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) in at #21. This is the follow up to the top 5 smash Mr Know It All and marks an improvement in her fortunes with regards to follow up singles. My December got #9 hit Never Again but no other top 100 hits, last album All I Ever Wanted spawned #1 hit My Life Would Suck Without You but I do Not Hook Up only made #35. Pitbull feat Chris Brown - International Love enters at #23 Rapper Pitbull get himself another UK hit, alongside singer Chris Brown as International Love enters the top 40 for the first time at #23. Pitbull's first major UK hit came in 2009 as I Know You Want Me made #4, followed by #9 hit Hotel Room Service. Several features on other people's songs and minor hits of his own followed, until he scores a massive #1 alongside Neyo and Afrojack with Give Me Everything. That was followed by minor #28 hit Rain Over Me and now this top 30 hit International Love. Chris Brown debuted in 2006 with #2 hit Run It, the first of 7 top 10 hits he has been on, 2 of which he scored last year with the massive hits Yeah 3X and Beautiful People. Foster The People and Birdy reenter at #22 and #25 respectively Foster The People make a return at #22 with their debut hit Pumped Up Kicks, orginally peaking at #18 and now back after its use in an advert and reduction to 59p. Teenage singer Birdy's debut hit single peaked at #17 last year, her cover of Skinny Love is back at #25 after being used on reality TV show Dancing On Ice. Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know enters at #36 For something totally different sounding, Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye enters at #36 this week. Belgian / Austrian singer songwriter Wouter De Backer makes his chart debut this week under the name of Gotye, alongside New Zealand born singer songwriter Kimbra. Gotye has now released 3 albums in Belgium and Australia as well as some minor hit singles, Kimbra released her debut album in Australia and New Zealand last year also. This is the commercial breakthrough for both artists, Somebody That I Used To Know has already been a #1 hit in Aus, NZ, Belgium, Austria and Germany. Bruno Mars returns to #1 in the albums chart The next of last year's big album to return to #1 this year is Bruno Mars with his million selling #1 album Doo Wops & Hooligans, coming exactly 1 year after its initial release. After replacing Bruno at #1 on initial release Adele finds the roles reversed as 21 is knocked down to #2, she has sold almost 4 million and been at #1 for 19 weeks so I doubt she'll care much. The only significant new release this week is the third album from indie band The Maccabees, Given To The Wild beats their previous peaks of #24 and #13 by entering at #4. Several other albums are making upwards movement due to price reductions and also lack of new material, including the Vaccines, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Kasabian and Foster The People. Personal Opinion I am no fan of Jessie J but I have to admit to liking Price Tag and also Domino, even if the latter sounds so much like Katy Perry. I really don't like Flo Rida or Rizzle Kicks, but I do think Love On Top is one of Beyonce's best songs adding a touch of class to the charts. Pixie Lott's Kiss The Stars is quite good and does deserve to be a hit, however it is nowhere near as good as anything from the first album, which I still love. I really like Kelly Clarkson's new one and also Titanium, but for different reasons of course. Pitbull's new song is predictably rubbish but I am pleasantly surprised by the Gotye song. Honourable mention must go to last year's 3 best albums returning to #1 one week after the next.

  18. Thanks for that Zeus. I think 21 is quite likely to get 21 weeks at #1 or maybe even exceed that, also Moves Like Jagger is almost certain to beat 21 top 20 weeks next week. I think 21 and MLJ deserve their respective success, so good on them!
  19. Flo Rida - Good feeling climbs to #1 After entering the chart at #2 and dropping 1 place each week, last week saw Good Feeling by Flo Rida rise to #3, now the track rises all the way to #1. Featuring on a TV advert for First Choice along with good airplay and a quiet sales week have no doubt helped the track. This is now Flo's 3rd UK #1 as lead artist, following 2009's Right Round (featuring Ke$ha) and 2010's Club Can't Handle Me (feat David Guetta). Good Feeling extensively samples Something's Got A Hold Of Me by Etta James, as does the instrumantal track Levels by Avicii which equals its debut peak of 6 weeks ago in a chart run of 4-5-8-7-9-12-4 so far. Taio Cruz - Troublemaker enters at #3 The highest new entry this week goes to UK R&B singer Taio Cruz who bags himself a 4th top 5 hit as lead artist and 7th in total, as Troublemaker hits #3. Taio made his UK debut in 2006 with top 30 hit I Just Wanna Know, it was in 2008 that he broke through with #5 hit Come On Girl followed by 2 further 20 hits that same year. As the lead single to his second album Rokstarr, Break Your Heart hit #1 in 2009 followed by #42 hit No Other One and #6 hit Dirty Picture. In 2010 he scored a massive #1 with Dynamite then a #8 with Higher, the latter track has 4 versions featuring Kylie Minogue, Travie McCoy, both (Kylie & Travie) and neither (just himself). Troublemaker is the lead single from his forthcoming 3rd album TYO, also featuring David Guetta's #4 hit Little Bad Girl on which he features. Jessie J - Domino climbs to #8 This week's highest climber is from Jessie J whose Domino is well and truly set off now, up from its #34 entry point last week to #8. This gets her a 5th top 10 hit out of 6 releases, with her debut single Do It Like A Dude peaking at #2 a year ago. Million selling (or soon to be) #1 Price Tag followed, #9 hit Nobody's Perfect, #16 hit Who's Laughin Now and #8 hit Who You Are. The atter is the title track to her massive selling album, which was re-released a few weeks ago to feature Domino and 2 other additional tracks. Her collaboration with James Morrison goes up to #30, in which the pair sing "the only way is up up up"! JLS - Do You Feel What I Feel enters at #16 X Factor runners up JLS get themselves a 9th top 20 hit or 10th if you include their minial feature on X Factor Finalists' #1 Wishing On A Star. This release however looks very likely to break their run of top 10 hits, going back to their 2009 debut release Beat Again up to last year's #2 hit Take A Chance On Me. Do You Feel What I Feel serves as their 3rd single from their 3rd album Jukebox which hit #2 around 2 months ago, aparently as a difference there is a 4th single scheduled for release in April. This track samples Bing Crosby's classic 1962 Christmas hit Do You Hear What I Hear, written by Noel Regney and Gloria Shayne Baker as a plea for peace between the USA and Cuba. James Vincent McMorrow - Higher Love enters at #21 Coming within a whisker of the top 20 this week is Irish folk singer James Vincent McMorrow with his cover of Higher Love, after hangin around the bottom end of the top 100 for several weeks. The track was originally a #13 hit in the UK for Steve Winwood in 1986, his highest charting hit outside of his bands - Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith and Traffic. The James Vincent McMorrow cover is featured in the current TV advert for LoveFilm and takes advantage of a quiet week to claim a top 30 placing. Skepta - Hold On London based grime rapper Joseph Junior Adenuga gets himself another top 40 hit this week as Skepta asks us to Hold On. Skepta's first album in 2007 was ironically entitled Greatest Hits, coming 4 years before he had any singles. He released 5 singles off his 3rd album Doin' It Again - Bad Boy, Rescue Me (biggest reaching #14), Cross My Heart, So Alive and Amnesia. The lead single Hold On from his forthcoming 4th album The Honeymoon enters the singles chart at #31. Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again enters at #37 British / Ugandan soul singer Michael Kiwanuka has just been announced as winner of BBC Sound Of 2012, the annual poll to find new musical talent likely to hit big in the coming year. Previous winners have included Jessie J, Adele, 50 Cent and Ellie Goulding; whilst others in this year's poll include Azealia Banks, Skrillex and Niki & The Dove. After a support slot alongside Adele last year on her tour, Michael Kiwanuka now debuts at #37 with new single Home Again. Adele's 21 album returns to #1 Following a BBC airing of her Albert Hall concert, Adele returns to #1 with her 3.8m selling 2nd album 21. The album has now been at #1 for 19 weeks in total, which is the title of her debut album which shoots back up to #18 this week. Continuing on the numbers theme Beyonce's 4th album 4 goes back up to #6 this week, following news that she has become a mother (for real this time). Following Jools Holland's annual Hootenanny show, the Vaccines shoot back up to #16 with their debut album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? There are also notable climbs from the likes of Cee Lo Green, Caro Emerald and Matt Cardle. Personal opinion I am not happy to see Coldplay knocked off #1, especially as it is the rubbish Flo Rida and this song certainly does not give me a good feeling! Nor does the instrumental borefest by Avicii, or Taio Cruz's forgettable generic guff either. Whilst I am not a fan of Jessie J, I do quite like Domino but I still think Who You Are is a screechy mess that has potential to be a good song! I really don't like that Do You Feel What I Feel tripe from JLS and think that Skepta song is a steaming pile of crap! James Vincent McMorrow's Higher Love is ok though, however not anywhere near as good as the original. With all that negativity I should end of a high note, I really like Michael Kiwinuka's Home Again as it is nice and melodic, hope he lives up to the hype.

Here is a wee summary of 2011 by month ... enjoy! January The year started off with What's My Name by Rihanna & Drake rising a place to #1, taking over from the X Factor winner's song When We Collide by Matt Cardle. Electronic drum & bass duo Nero made their debut with Me & You and hot tip James Blake charted with his cover of Limit To Your Love. Bruno Mars hit #1 with 2nd single Grenade on huge first week sales, and made #1 with album Doo Wops & Hooligans which went on to sell over 1 million.
