007 Chart Commentary - 25th Dec 2011
Military Wives feat Gary Malone - Wherever You Are is 2011's Christmas #1 For the first time in 7 years, we have a Christmas #1 which has not resulted from an X Factor winner or a campaign designed to overthrow the X Factor. As a spin off of the TV series The Choir, Military Wives Choir was formed by the wives of service men as a means of raising money for Royal British Legion and SSAFA Forces Help. Following a campaign to get it to Christmas #1, the track has sold in excess of 500,000 copies to make it this year's festive #1 by a long way. Lou Monte - Dominick The Donkey enters at #3 The battle for xmas #2 was actually quite hotly contested this year with several campaigns bringing some unlikely songs into the charts, as this new entry at #3 demonstrates. This resulted from a campaign by Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles to get the track to Christmas #1, following its use in relation to news reader Dominic Byrne. The track was originally recorded in 1960 by Italian American singer Lou Monte but never a hit in any form, mainly due to its novelty factor. Alex Day - Forever Yours enters at #4 The new entry at #4 belongs to another unlikely #1 contender, unsigned singer Alex Day with his track Forever Yours. Alex Day was initially known as the founder of Chamelion Circuit, who made music based on the TV series Doctor Who. He then went on to be a member of the band formed by reality show Chartjackers, aiming to write, record and release a pop song in ten weeks - result being 2009 #36 hit I've Got Nothing. Now he has a #4 hit in his own right as Forever Yours hits #4, with proceeds going to World Vision. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit reenters at #11 As a result of another Facebook campaign to beat the X Factor to xmas #1, US grunge rock group Nirvana make a reappearence with their classic track Smells Like Teen Spirit at #11. With much the same idea as the 2009 campaign for Rage Against The Machine, this was designed to overthrow Simon Cowell and the X Factor winners to go to #1 for xmas. There were significantly less followers for this year's campaign and hence the track's #11 entry, not even managing to beat it's original 1991 peak of #7. Stacey Solomon - Driving Home For Christmas enters at #27 and Cast of TOWIE enter at #33 with Last Christmas There are another 2 new entries which are covers of Christmas classics in the top 40 in their original form, at #27 and #33 respectively. X Factor contestant Stacey Solomon has so far has various TV presenting roles but not released any music. Now comes her cover of Chris Rea's 1988 hit Driving Home For Christmas, only having charted in its original form in 2007 at #33, and back at #36 this year. Cast of TV series The Only Way Is Essex enter at #33 with their cover of Wham's classic Last Christmas, with the original dropping to #34. This makes a total of 10 festive hits in this week's top 40, none of which are likely to be in the top 100 next week. Michael Buble has this year's Christmas #1 album No surprises at all that Michael Buble's Christmas album remains at #1 in this week's album chart, now having sold enough to rank as the 2nd best seller of the year (in between both Adele albums). With no proper new releases, there is little change in the entire album chart this week with the top 10 and top 20 remaining the same but very slightly reshuffled. Personal opinion I am happy to see the Military Wives get this year's xmas #1, much as I'm not normally a fan of this style of music, I really like Wherever You Are. At leats that X Factor tripe or that Dominick The Donkey tripe didn't get there ... I cannot stand Chris Moyles or that song at all. However I do rather like Alex Day's Forever Yours and am very surprised to see it mount a challenge for #1, even if it will plummet next week. I hate Nirvana in general and think that these campaigns are ridicilous to say the least, why get a song to #1 through mass buying ... just to stop another mass marketed thing called X Factor? I don't mind Stacey Solomon's version of Chris Rea's classic, I do love the original though. The Only Way Is Essex TV programme is complete rubbish and so is their version of Wham's great classic. With next week likely to see lots of old songs come back and few new ones, there will be no 007 commentary next week. Wishing all BJers a happy new year for 2012!

007 Chart Commentary - 18th Dec 2011
Little Mix - Cannonball enters at #1 So for the most obvious chart topper of the year, here is this year's X Factor winner's song going straight to #1 on big sales (but not as big as previous years). This year is the first time ever that a girl group has won the X Factor, or even come close for that matter. As per ususal the song is a cover, this year it is Damien Rice's Cannonball, originally released in 2003 with a #32 peak then a 2004 remix got it to #19 and ever since has been a radio favourite. Earlier this year, the track made a reappearence to achieve a new peak of #9 thanks to X Factor, and this week's re-enters at #19. The question now is, can Little Mix get the xmas #1 ... looking unlikely at this stage. Coldplay - Paradise climbs to #2 Coldplay performed 2 songs at Wembley Stadium for this year's X Factor final, and as a result one of these songs rises up to #2 in this week's chart. When first released, Paradise was ineligible for the chart, as it was made available with album pre-orders and so couldn't be distinguished from single track downloads. However upon album release, the track entered at #14 and hung around the top 20 before rising to #7 last week then #2 this week. This is likely to be Coldplay's 3rd #2 hit - Speed Of Sound and In My Place being the other 2, Viva La Vida is their only #1 so far out of a total of 11 top 10s since their 2000 debut. Leona Lewis - Hurt enters at #8 Another hit to result from an X Factor performance is this week's second highest new entry from the most successful winner Leona Lewis. This is actually an EP of 3 covers, to tide over her fans whilst waiting on the release of Leona's 3rd album (now due in March 2012). The lead track is a cover of the Nine Inch Nail's track Hurt, which was never a single in its original form but Johnny Cash recorded a cover and hit #39 after his death in 2003. The other 2 tracks to be covered are Iris by Goo Goo Dolls and Colourblind by Counting Crows (not Darius). This is Leona's 8th top 10 hit out of 9 full UK releases to date, biggest of which is the milliion selling Bleeding Love. Rizzle Kicks - Mama Do the Hump enters at #18 UK hip hop duo Jordan Stephens and Harley Alexander-Sule score their third hit single as Rizzle Kicks (they were also featured on Olly Murs' chart topping Heart Skips A Beat though) as Mama Do The Hump enters the top 20 at #16. Both of their previous tracks have peaked at #8 and feature on their #9 peaking album Stereo Typical, Down With The Trumpets and When I Was A Youngster being the first 2. Can this one also peak at #8? Rihanna - You Da One reenters at #35 Rihanna's upcoming new single You Da One entered at #39 following the release of her album Talk The Talk but subsequently dropped out, before reentering this week at #35. This is due to increasing airplay and also a reduction to 59p on iTunes, something that the Christmas classics benefited from last week. This track is likely to make the top 20 in the next few weeks and thus become Rihanna's 22nd UK top 20 hit, out of 23 full releases as lead credited artist. Drake's Take Care drops to #15 this week, a track on which she features. She certainly is "da one" at the moment! Michael Buble returns to #1 with his Christmas Album No surprises at the top of this week's album chart then, Christmas by Michael Buble returns to the top after first making #1 4 weeks ago. This is following several TV appearences, including an X Factor performance, and of course the lead up to Christmas. Not much else is noteworthy in the album chart top 40, excepting for reentries at #37 and #38 from Drake and Adele respectively. Personal opinion Whilst I really love the original of Cannonball and haven't really liked Little Mix throughout the X Factor, I do quite like their cover of Cannonball. It seems though that every X Factor winner's or finalists charity song is structured the same ... slow start, build up to a key change towards the end and then finally a chior joining in! I love Coldplay and think Paradise is brilliant so am happy to see it get a deserving #2 peak, also I love Leona Lewis and her beautiful cover of Hurt ... Johnny Cash's version is a little better though. I really don't like the Rizzle Kicks track, although it is slightly preferable to their first 2 songs and their pointless feature of Olly Murs' otherwise brilliant track. Whilst not a Buble fan, I do think some of his xmas songs are rather good.

Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight climbs to #1 In a week where the #1 was less of a foregone conclusion than last week and indeed next week, we actually have a track climbing to #1. So knocking off this year's X Factor finalists is former X Factor runner up and current XTra Factor presenter Olly Murs. Olly joins the select list of atrists who have scored 2 #1 singles this year, following on nicely from Heart Skips A Beat and in case you didn't know he had last week's #1 album! This is Olly's 3rd chart topper and likely to be for a solitary week thanks to this year's X Factor winners Little Mix. Lloyd feat Andre 3000 & Lil Wayne - Dedication To My Ex (Miss That) enters at #3 This week saw the release of 2 highly anticipated urban releases, one of which is the highest new entry at #3. US R&B singer Lloyd can say he is always polite, considering his real name is Lloyd Polite Jnr. Dedication To My Ex is a song about a girl who had an affair while Lloyd was on vacation, and is his first UK top 40 single out of several past releases including You, Get It Down Shawty and Lay It Down. This track also features Andre 3000, who is best known as 50% of Outkast and US rapper Lil Wayne, who is best known in the UK for his track Lollipop and numerous collaborations. T-Pain feat Wiz Khalifa & Lily Allen - 5 O'Clock enters at #6 US singer, songwriter, rapper and producer Faheem Rasheed Najm gets his biggest UK hit this week as his time check enters at #6 ... announcing it's 5 o'clock in the morning! Like Lloyd, T-Pain has not had any massively successful singles in the UK until now. He has had top 40 hits I'm Sprung, Church and I'm Sprung though. 5'Oclock features a sample from Lilly Allen's hit Who'd Have Known, which made #39 in 2009. Several Christmas classics climb or re-enter this week There are many festive favourites in this week's chart, as with each year around this time. However there are rather more higher up the chart as all (except 1) have been reduced to 59p on iTunes, leading to 7 Christmas songs being present in the top 40 and several more lower down. The highest of those is All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey at #12, followed by FAirytale Of New York which oddly enough was not reduced but still makes it to #17 this year. We also see Justin Bieber's Mistletoe at #23, Wham at #26, Wizzard at #28, Slade at #33 and Band Aid at #34. Sway feat Kano - Still Speeding enters at #19 Derek Andrew Safo is another rapper to score his first major UK hit single this week going under the name of Sway, as Still Speeding enters at #19. Sway has had several previous releases which flopped, including Up Your Speed, Little Derek and Mercedes Benz. Still Speeding features a sample from Lloleta Holloway's Love Sensation, as very successfully used for Black Box Ride On Time. Amy Winehouse - Our Day will Come enters at #29 The late Amy Winehouse this week adds to her tally of top 40 hits as her cover of Our Day Will Come enters at #29. The song was originally a hit for Ruby & The Romantics in 1962, and was originally intended for her debut album Frank but left off in the end. Instead the track has surfaced as a cut from her Lioness : Hidden Treasures album. Amy Winehouse tops the album charts this week Talking of the late Amy Winehouse, she now scores a 3rd hit album and 2nd chart topper in the form of a compilation of lost tracks and remakes entitled Lioness : Hidden Treasures. Just behind her is Michael Buble's Christmas album at #2 and Rebecca ferguson's debut Heaven at #3. Olly Murs slips to #4 and Rihanna to #5. There are other new entries from the Black Keys and the Beegees further down, but not much else in the way of movement to report. Personal opinion Well thank goodness those X Factor Finalists only lasted for a week on top and none better than the brilliant Olly Murs to replace them. I am also glad that neither of the boring hip hop tracks from Lloyd or T Pain made it in the end. However I am glad to see all these festive classics make a significant impact this year, shame that the brilliant Amy Winehouse track is not higher but her album has smashed into #1 so that's good.

007 Chart Commentary - 20th Nov 2011
Rihanna feat Calvin Harris – We Found Love stays at #1 Rihanna holds off another boy band (and Flo Rida) this week as We Found Love holds on at the top for a fifth week in total. This now makes it the longest running #1 single this year, joint with Adele’s Someone Like You which also managed 5 non-consecutive weeks earlier on this year. After her X Factor performance, Rihanna could well be set for more time at the top as her album’s released on Monday. There’s also her next single entitled You Da One or the Drake song she features on. Flo Rida – Good Feeling enters at #2 US rapper, singer and songwriter Tramar Dillard gets himself another huge UK top 5 hit this week, under the name of Flo Rida and has a good feeling about it! Flo’s debut single was Low, but peaked at a far from low position of #2 in 2007, followed by several smaller hits from his debut album. In 2009, he topped the charts with Right Round (featuring Ke$ha) then followed it with several smaller hits. In 2010, he followed the same pattern by topping the chart with Club Can’t Handle Me (with David Guetta) then following with some lower charting hits. Thus Good Feeling becomes Mr Rida’s 4th top 5 hit and is from his 4th album entitled Only One Rida. This contains a sample from Avicii’s new single Levels, which was released today (Sunday). One Direction – Gotta Be You enters at #3 Another act to have come from the X Factor and having performed on said show is boyband One Direction. Consisting of teenagers Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, the group was put together and managed by Simon Cowell and came third in last year’s contest. Since then they have built up a very dedicated fanbase including plenty of screaming girls! Second single Gotta Be You enters at #3, following their huge chart topping debut What Makes You Beautiful, which is this year’s fastest seller. This is following both an X Factor and a Children In Need performance. Drake feat Rihanna – Take Care enters at #12 Aubery Drake Graham gets his highest charting single to date as he enters at #18 with the title track to his new album Take Care, and not a proper single yet. Drake first made the UK top 50 in 2009 when Forever made #42, followed by #50 single Over the following year, then he hit #25 with Find Your Love. He has released 2 singles so far this year entitled Headlines and Make Me Proud, neither of which have charted in the top 40. However the track Take Care changes this, featuring Rihanna and containing a sample from I’ll Take Care Of You by Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie XX. Saturdays – My Heart Takes Over enters at #15 UK girl band The Saturdays are often associated with the aforementioned Flo Rida. This is not only because they collaborated on a single but because Flo has twice beaten them to #1. This time he is not responsible for keeping the girls out of the top 10 as they are some way short. My Heart Takes Over becomes only their second single to miss top 10 so far, debuting at #15. This follows #8 hit Notorious and #3 hit All Fired Up from this year, and is the girls’ 11th top 20 hit out of 12 releases. New album On Your Radar is due for release this week (Monday). Lady Gaga – Marry The Night enters at #18 US singer songwriter Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta gets her 12th UK top 40 hit (13th including Wale’s Chillin’) this week as Marry The Night beats the #23 peak of previous single You & I by entering at #18. This is following performances on X Factor and Children In Need as well as the full single release. With the forthcoming video release and further promotion, this may well become Gaga’s 10th UK top 10 hit. The Collective – Teardrop enters at #24 This year’s official Children In Need single comes in the form of this cover of Massive Attack’s 1998 #10 hit Teardrop. The “supergroup” was put together by Gary Barlow and consists of Labrinth, Chipmunk, Dot Rotten, Ed Sheeran, Ms. Dynamite, Mz. Bratt, Tulisa, Rizzle Kicks, Tinchy Stryder and Wretch 32. This track was produced by Labrinth and debut at #29 this week, with all proceeds going to help needy children across the nation. Westlife – Lighthouse enters at #32 Another act to debut much lower than otherwise expected is Westlife, missing the top 10 for the first time with a full single release as Lighthouse can only limp in at #32. The Irish boyband debuted in 1999 with Swear It Again and are the only act to debut at #1 with their first 7 releases. Their most recent chart topper is their cover of The Rose from 2006. The boys have recently announced their split and so this is likely to be their last ever single, making a total of 25 top 10 hits with 14 chart toppers in their 12 year career. Ever since 2007 they have released just 1 single and 1 album in the year around November period, with this year being no exception. Slow Moving Millie – Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want enters at #36 Slow Moving Millie may not be a name that most people are familiar with, some may know her as actress Amelia Warner and husband of fellow actor Colin Farrell. Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want was originally by The Smiths, a B Side to their 1984 hit William, It Was Really Nothing. This comes from Millie’s forthcoming debut album of 1980’s covers entitled Renditions. Jessie J, Katy Perry and Elbow re-enter at #29, #37 and #38 respectively In a top 40 chart with 11 new entries, there are also 3 re-entries to be seen. The highest of those is Jessie J at #29 with the title track to her album Who You Are, after debuting at #40 on album release week. Katy Perry entered at #22 with The One That Got Away after a performance on X Factor a few weeks ago, it then did get away for 3 weeks before re-entering this week. Probably the biggest selling non top 30 hit is One Day Like This by Elbow, the track is back at #38 this week after being performed on Children In Need Rocks Manchester. It was first released in 2008 when it debuted at #39, before reappearing at #35 twice over the next 2 years, become something of a classic in the process. Can it reach a new peak next week? Christina Perri – A Thousand Years & Snow Patrol – This Isn’t Everything You Are enter at #39 & #40 Christina Perri gets her second top 40 hit this year as new single A Thousand Years debuts at #39, featuring in the latest Twilight film. This week also sees Jar Of Hearts reclimb into the top 10 once again, this time due to a Strictly Come Dancing performance. Irish / Scottish group Snow Patrol enter at #40 with new single This Isn’t Everything You Are, following #11 hit Called Out In the Dark and becoming the band’s 13th top 40 hit (albeit only just). Michael Buble tops the album charts with his Christmas album Yes it is only November but already there is a Christmas album at #1, as Michael Buble rises a place to claim his 2nd UK #1 album in 6 releases. JLS enter at #2 with their third album Jukebox and Snow Patrol hit #3 with their fifth album Fallen Empires. Drake has taken care and landed himself a #5 new entry with his second album. Andrea Bocelli enters at #17 with his live album, below him are surprisingly low entries from Pixie Lott and REM with their respective releases. Opinion Whilst I do like We Found Love, I’m not sure it’s worthy of staying for another week at #1. Still at least it is not Flo Rida or One Direction, who are both rubbish for completely different reasons. I quite like Take Care by Drake and Rihanna, not normally my thing. I think MY Heart Takes Over is one of The Saturdays better songs, certainly better than their last 2. Whilst I’m not the biggest Lady Gaga fan, I do rather like Marry The Night. That CIN cover of Teardrop is awful, I know it’s for a good cause but still they could have done much better. I like Who You Are and Jessie J in general but really don’t like the way she screeches through this song. Westlife’s new one isn’t that great but doesn’t deserve to be such a flop, especially if rubbish like You Raise Me Up and Mandy made #1. That Slow Moving Millie cover is really nice, as are Katy Perry’s and Christina Perri’s new ones.

Rihanna feat Calvin Harris - We Found Love returns to #1 It's not often that we get a returning #1. This week is one of those occasions, as We Found Love returns to #1 after spending 3 weeks there then 2 further weeks inside the top 3. The last single to return to #1 was Adele's Someone Like You after 1 week off #1 earlier this year. However the last one to return to the summit after more than a week was Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars around this time last year. So far Rihanna & Calvin have kept off boybands The Wanted and JLS from #1, can she do the same to One Direction next week? JLS - Take A Chance On Me enters at #2 After coming second in 2009's X Factor, JLS have released pre-album singles in July and November which have entered at #1 - Beat Again, Everybody In Love, The Club Is Alive, Love You More and most recently She Makes Me Wanna. New single Take A Chance On Me however breaks that pattern by debuting at #2, due to the huge Rihanna hit. Each following single has peaked inside the top 10, will their next single do the same or peak lower again? Pixie Lott feat Pusha T - What Do You Take Me For? enters at #10 Another act to be following up a #1 single from earlier this year is Victoria Louise "Pixie" Lott, and another to break a statistical pattern! Pixie's debut single Mama Do debuted at #1, as did follow up single Boys & Girls, followed by 4 top 20 hits from her debut album - Cry Me Out, Gravity, Turn It Up and Broken Arrow. Earlier this year, she topped the chart with All About Tonight, thus peaking at #1 or top 20 with all her full single releases to date. However new single What Do You Take Me For debuts at #10, also featuring rapper Pusha T and lifted from her forthcoming second album Young Foolish Happy. Florence & The Machine - Shake It Out clumbs to #12 This year has seen 2 major influences in the chart to cause tracks to suddenly rise significantly - X Factor and 59p reduction. The former is the reason for Shake It Out's rise to #12 this week, after Florence's performance on the aforementioned ITV show. This now becomes her joint second biggest hit single to date, matching the peak of Rabbit Heart in 2009, only bettered by her #5 cover of You've Got The Love. Shake It Out Was looking to be something of a flop, having only peaked in the low top 30 prior to X Factor. Loick Essein - Me Without You enters at #14 21 year old London based singer Loick Mark Essein gets himself a third UK top 40 hit this week as new single Me Without You enters at #14. This follows up his #2 hit How We Roll from earlier this year and is featured on his debut album which is due out in March 2012. How We Roll features singer Tanya Lacey who has recently supported Bruno Mars on parts of his current tour. Bruno Mars - It Will Rain enters at #16 Taking of Mr Mars, this week he adds yet another top 20 hit to his tally as new single It Will Rain debuts at #16. After featuring on 2 big rap hits last year, Bruno Mars made his solo debut with Just The Way You Are which topped the chart and went on to become a UK million seller. The huge selling chart topping singles Grenade and The Lazy Song followed this, then came top 20 hits Marry You and Runaway Baby. Unlike the aforementioned tracks It Will Rain does not appear on his debut album Doo Wops & Hooligans, the track is lifted from the soundtrack of the new Twilight film. Let's hope that this is not the weather forecast! Tinchy Stryder feat Calvin Harris & Burns - Off The Record enters at #24 Kwasi Danquah III makes his return to the top 30 this week under his better known stage name of Tinchy Stryder, but it is Off The Record though. In 2007 Tinchy released his debut album Star In The Hood which yielded no hit singles, however he made his breakthorugh in 2009 with #3 hit Take Me Back (feat Taio Cruz) and #1s Number One (with N-Dubz) and Never Leave You (with Amelle Berrabah), followed by #14 cover of Olive's You're Not Alone. Last year saw him score another 4 top 30 hits from his 3rd album appropriately entitled Third Strike - In My System, Second Chance, Game Over and Let It Rain. Now following up #5 hit Spaceship (feat Dappy) from earlier this year comes Off The Record, features this time are Calvin Harris and rapper Burns. Afrojack and Steve Aoki feat Miss Palmer - No Beef enters at #25 Dutch producer Nick van de Wall made his debut under the name of Afrojack last year on #24 hit Take Over Control, featuring vocals from Eva Simons. Afrojack is also featured on Pitbull's massive #1 hit Give Me Everything from earlier this year. US electro-house producer Steve Aoki also debuted last year, with #29 hit I'm In The House. Now the 2 producers alongside vocalist Miss Palmer get a #25 new entry with No Beef ... perhaps they're vegeterians! Susan Boyle tops the album chart again with Someone To Watch Over Me Britain's Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle scores herself a third consecutive #1 album this week with Someone To Watch Over Me, following in a similar vein to the previous 2. In a very busy album chart consisting of 7 entries into the top 20, X Factor contestant Cher Lloyd gets the seconf highest at #4 with Sticks & Stones. In at #5 is boy band The Wanted with second album Battlefield, ahead of Dutch composer Andre Rieu at #7. 15 year old singer Birdy released her debut album this week and enters at #13, 1 place ahead of another Pink Floyd compilation set entitled A Foot In The Door : Best Of. Simon & Garfunkel re-enter at #16 with their Greatest Hits set and Diana Ross with another entitled The Greatest at #24. Personal Opinion I do like We Found Love but I don't think it is worthy of such huge success, however I am happy to see it deny JLS another #1. I do think Take A Chance On Me is one of their best, however it seemed like they were getting #1s regardless of the quality - The Club Is Alive and She Makes Me Wanna proved that! I loved Pixie Lott's debut , however I felt that All About Tonight was a step down and What Do You Take Me For is another step down as well as a pointless rap feature ... still good but not brilliant. Florence's Shake It Out has really grown on me recently, also I quite like Me Without You by Loick Essein. However I think Bruno Mars Let It Rain is the best new entry of the week, his debut album is really brilliant as is this single and he's great live too. Both Tinchy Stryder's and Afrojack's new songs are not to my liking though. Whilst I'm not a fan of SuBo, I think she has a great talent and good to see her at #1 again ... thank goodness it's not Cher Lloyd though!

007 Chart Commentary - 30th Oct 2011
Read All About The New Chart Topper Professor Green feat Emile Sande – Read All About It goes to #1 Read all about it here, Professor Green gets his first #1 single alongside Aberdeen born Emile Sande who also scores her first #1. Rapper Professor Green has had 2 top 5 hits in the past, his debut Need You Tonight feat xxx hit #4 whilst follow up Just Be Good To Green with Lily Allen hit #3 last year. Now from his second album and not containing any samples, Read All About It debuts at #1 with huge sales after Pro and Emile performed on X Factor. Labrinth feat Tinie Tempah – Earthquake enters at #2 Shaking his way into runners up slot, also with huge sales is singer Labrinth together with rapper Tinie Tempah on Earthquake. Like Pro Green, Labrinth also had 2 huge top 5 hits hit last year – Tinie’s #2 hit Frisky and his own #3 hit Let The Sun Shine. Lab also appeared uncredited on Tinie’s massive #1 hit Pass Out. Now Mr Tempah has created an earthquake after passing out and getting frisky but it’s written in the stars! Rizzle Kicks – When I Was A Youngster enters at #8 Hip hop duo Jordan Stephens (Rizzle) and Harley Alexander-Sule (Sylvester), better known as Rizzle Kicks get a second top 10 hit of their own this week with When I Was A Youngster. The kicks also featured on Olly Murs’ #1 smash Heart Skips A Beat, this single is taken from their forthcoming debut album entitled Stereo Typical. Coldplay – Paradise enters at #14 and Princess Of China enters at #33 Chris Martin and his hugely successful Coldplay this week score not 1 but 2 more top 40 hits as single Paradise enters at #14 and Rihanna featuring Princess Of China at #33. Paradise was released 6 weeks ago and has been selling enough each week since to be top 30, but was however ineligible due to being a free download for those who preordered the album. Princess Of China is another track to be taken from the Mylo Xyloto album and features Rihanna’s additional vocals. This brings Coldplay’s total top 40 hits to 17, with 10 of those making top 10. Cobra Starship feat Sabi – You Make Me Feel enters at #16 US band Cobra Starship were last seen in the top 40 in 2009 with #17 hit Good Girls Go Bad, indeed their only other time. Now they are back with a new sound and vocals supplied by someone going under the name of Sabi. You Make Me Feel enters at #16 to get them their biggest hit and a second top 20 in the UK, must make them feel … well quite good! Bruno Mars – Runaway Baby enters at #19 Bruno Mars this week scores his fifth straight top 20 hit, not with his new single just yet but with album track Runaway Baby entering at #19. This is following on from an X Factor appearance of the track, which also sees Marry You rise back up to #24, where it was 2 weeks ago incidentally. Bruno has now had 3 #1s and 2 top 20 hits of his own as well as a #1, a #3 and a #10 collaboration … the boy has done well! Beyonce – Countdown enters at #39 Beyonce Knowles gets herself another top 40 hit this week as single #3 from her 4 album enters at #39, sure to rise up the charts in the coming weeks. Beyonce made her chart debut back in 1997 as part of Destiny’s Child with #5 hit No No No, and had a total of 12 top 10’s with Destiny’s Child. As a solo artist, she debuted in 2002 with Work It Out and has had a total of 16 top 10’s, including collaborations with the likes of Lady Gaga, Jay Z, Shakira and Sean Paul. Coldplay top the album charts with Mylo Xyloto No surprises as to who is #1 in the album chart this week, Coldplay’s fifth album hits the top with huge sales once again to follow in the footsteps of their first four. Michael Buble gets this year’s first xmas album entry in October, Christmas enters at #3 following his first 4 albums which all hit #1. Kelly Clarkson enters at #5 with her 5th album Stronger, maintaining her 100% run of top 5 albums. Other new albums making it big this week include Tom Waits, Soldiers, Sting, Ronan Parke and Darren Hayes. Personal opinion As I am not a huge fan of rap in general, far less of Pro Green or Tinie! So it will come as no surprise that I do not like the top 2 singles much, however I do prefer Earthquake to Read All About It. Same goes for Rizzle Kicks as it’s not that good. However I really love Paradise by Coldplay and quite like Princess Of China, in fact the entire album is actually very good. I thought Bruno Mars was excellent on X Factor and I'm glad to see Runaway Baby hit top 20, going to see him live next week too! Really liking Ed Sheeran’s Lego House too.

Ah yes I have removed that one from my memory. I have tried to remove Steps as a whole from my memory but sadly that didn't work. Those stats say it all don't they, ABBA were incredible and still are.

Rihanna feat Calvin Harris - We Found Love stays at #1 Shock horror ... we have found a 2 week number one single! Rihanna and Calvin Harris debuted together at #1 last week with We Found Love on just 4 days of sales and now stays there with a full week of sales. The closest competition this week was from Adam Levine twice over, however next week the pair face competition from held back releases by The Wanted, Kelly Clarkson and Lana Del Rey. Gym Class Heroes feat Adam Levine - Stereo Hearts enters at #3 US hip hop group Gym Class Heroes make their return as this week's highest new entry at #3, alongside Marron 5's Adam Levine. Fronted by Travis (Travie) McCoy, the group first appeared on the Supertramp sampling Cupid's Chokehold which hit #3 in 2006, followed by #5 Jermaine Stewart sampling Clothes Off. Both of those singles featured Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy, then in 2008 they teamed up with The Dream to score a #6 hit with Cookie Jar and now a 4th top 10 hit with Stereo Hearts. Adam Levine can now lay claim to having 2 simultaneous top 3 hits as Moves Like Jagger remains locked at #2 for a 7th straight week. Matt Cardle - Run For Your Life enters at #6 So this is the time of year when last year's X Factor winner makes a second top 40 appearence following on from the huge #1 debut, after a performance on the show. Step forward Matt Cardle who won the show in 2010 with his version of When We Collide, which has now sold just shy of 1 million copies. Run For Your Life is Matt's debut single aside from the winner's song and is taken from his debut album Letters. The track has been written by Gary Barlow and has all the hall marks of a Take That single. Time will tell if Matt does well with his album or subsequent singles. Katy Perry - Last Friday Night reenters at #28, Nicki Minaj - Superbass reenters at #21 US mega star Katy Perry had a 13 week top 40 run this year with Last Friday Night, marking her 9th top 10 hit by peaking at #9. It now finds itself back in at #28, following the release of a remix at a reduced price of 59p. 59p reduction of selected tracks on iTunes has resulted in a great many songs experiencing boosts lately, such as Beyonce's hit a place above (X Factor also helped there). Nicki Minaj's #8 hit Superbass is back at #21 following an X Factor performance and Ed Sheeran - Lego House anters at #30 Ed Sheeran this week builds himself up a 3rd top 30 hit from his huge selling album entitled +. This of course follows up debut monster hit The A Team, which climbs back into the top 10 following X Factor usage and #4 hit You Need Me I Don't Need You. Nero - Crush On You enters at #37 London based dupstep / drum & bass duo Nero get their 4th top 40 hit this week as Crush On You enters at #37 after hanging around outside of the top 40 for several weeks. Nero's first single release was double A side Innocence / Electron, which missed the top 100, as they became better known, their top 40 debut came this year. The #15 hit Me & You was then followed by #8 hit Guilt and short lived #1 Promises. Crush On You is essentially a cover of the 1985 album track from US band The Jets. Kanye West feat Dwele - Power re-enters at #38 US rapper / singer / producer Kanye Omari West makes a return to the top 40 this week with his 2010 track Power, originally the lead track from his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album. The track originally made #36, and has since been used in several film trailers and most recently the trailer for the Xbox game Forza Motorsport 4 E3 2011. Power is credited as sampling 3 different songs - 21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson, Afromerica by Continent No 6, and It's Your Thing by Cold Grits. Timbaland feat Pibull - Pass At Me enters at #40 US hip hop producer and singer Timbland makes a return to the top 40 this week as he makes a pass at Pitbull, the first single from his Shock Value III album due out early next year. This marks his first top 40 hit since him and Justin Timberlake had a carry out last year, and is his lowest charting single since 1999. he made his first appearence alongside Destiny's Child on Get On The Bus that same year and has since amassed 8 top 10 hits (as credited artist), 2 of those were #1s Give It To Me and The Way I Are. Steps top the album chart in a 1990's throwback! In 1997, a UK 5 piece pop band called Steps released their debut single 5678 then went on to score 14 straight top 10 hits before splitting in 2001, now following their reunion TV special and tour announcement Ultimate Collection enters at #1 in the album charts. Evanescence hit #4 with their third self titled album after #1 debut with Fallen and #2 follow up Open Door. Katherine Jenkins enters at #6 with Daydream, Jason Derulo at #7 with 2nd album Future history and Ryan Adams at #9 with Ashes & Fire. Finally mention must go to Cliff Richard who scores his 100,000,000th album entry with Soulicious, an album of soul covers. Personal opinion I am happy to see Rihanna remain at #1 as I quite like We Found Love, although M5 would've been better at #1. I really don't like that Stereo Hearts song by Gym Class Heroes, even although Adam Levine sings on it. I really like Matt Cardle's debut and can't wait to hear his album. I love the new Ed Sheeran single and love his entire album actually, so good to see Lego House shape up to be big. I think Steps being #1 in the albums is a total and utter joke but only slightly better than Evanescence.

007 Chart Commentary - The Return!
Correct as Bre said, it was done based on the midweeks which all suggested M5 would be #1, I just forgot to change some parts. Now fixed. Yeh it seems that the days of long running #1s are over, thanks to front loading / holding back of songs. :( At the beginning of the year we had a 5 weeker (Adele), a 4 weeker (LMFAO) and a 3 weeker (Pitbull & co) when it looked like On Air On Sale would be used.

Ha I thought I'd changed all references but obviously just missed that. Thanks!

007 Chart Commentary - The Return!
Greetings fellow popsters ... it's back after several months break! Rihanna enters at #1 with We Found Love Following the appearence of several fake cover versions, Rihanna released her single We Found Love on Wednesday this week and finds it enter straight in at #1. We Found Love features Dumfries born producer / singer Calvin Harris and marks his 3rd consecutive top 2 hit, following Bounce and Feel So Close. Rihanna adds not 1 but 2 songs to her tally of top 20 hits as Nicki Minaj's Fly rises to #16. Rihanna now has a total of 27 top 20 hits since her 2005 debut (including features), not bad eh! We Found Love comes just a year after Rihanna's last new lead single Only Girl (In The World) entered at #2 before ascending to #1 the following week. Maroon 5 feat Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger climbs to #2 Los Angeles based band Maroon 5 almost got themselves a #1 this week again but alas Moves Like Jagger stays for 6 weeks stuck at #2, behind 6 different #1s. The track features Christina Aguilera which means that she now has 10 top 5s since her 2000 debut with Genie In A Bottle. Maroon 5 have had big hit singles in the past most notably with This Love (#3 in 2004), She Will Be Loved (#4 in 2004) and Makes Me Wonder (#2 in 2007). Moves Like Jagger was sung on the first of the live X Factor shows by contestant Marcus Collins, which means it could potentially stay at #2 yet again. LMFAO - Sexy & I Know It climbs to #7 US electro hip hop / rap group LMFAO (Laughing My Flippin' Ass Off) this week score a second top 10 hit or 4th if you include David Guetta's Gettin' Over You from last year and 2008's I'm In Miami B**ch. This year, they have rocked the party, had a champaigne shower, now they are sexy and they know it! Charlene Soraia - Wherever You Will Go enters at #20 US rock group The Calling scored a huge #3 hit in 2002 with Wherever You Will Go, now the track has been covered by Charlene Soraia for the latest Twinings tea avertisements. As female singers covering big hits for TV ads go, this follows in the footsteps of Taken By Trees (Sweet Child O' Mine), Templecloud (One Big Family) and most successfully Ellie Goulding (Your Song). Lady Gaga climbs to #24 with You & I and to #33 with Edge Of Glory Lady Gaga has had a rather good week this week, as she finds her latest single reach a new peak of #24 and previous single Edge Of Glory rise back up to #33. This is following a price reduction of all her tracks to 59p on iTunes and an appearence on the Johnathan Ross show. Marina & The Diamonds - Radioactive enters at #25 After coming second in the BBC Sound Of 2010 poll, Marina Diamondis scored 3 minor hits including her #12 debut Hollywood together with a top 5 debut album. Now she is ready to move forward with her second album, and the lead single from it Radioactive enters at a rather disappointing #25 this week. Florence & The Machine - Shake It Out enters at #27 Talking of second albums and disappointing single entry positions, Florence & The Machine debut at #27 with new single Shake It Out. Florence Welsh scored a #24 hit with "buzz single" What The Water Gave Me, following on from huge success in 2009 with singles such as Dog Days Are Over and her cover of You've Got The Love. Her album Lungs was a massive #1, time will tell if she can do as well with forthcoming second album Ceremonials. James Morrison - The Awakening remains the #1 album James Morrison stays at #1 in the album charts for a second week as The Awakeing fends off competition from rockers You Me At Six who enter at #3. New entries in the top 10 can be found from Lady Antebelum with their second album at #4 and Ben Howard who debuts at #7 with Every Kingdom. Other notable new entries come from Erasure, Julian Lennon and Katherine Jenkins amongst others. Personal Opinion I am very happy to see M5 almost score a #1, I have long been a fan of thiers and think that Moves Like Jagger is one of the best songs of the year. Whilst I don't like everything Rihanna has done and We Found Love is far from her best, I do rather like it. At least it knocks off that utter rubbish Loca People and finishes well ahead of the even worse rubbish Sexy & I Know It by LMFAO. The cover of Wherever You Will go is rather nice, whist Marina and Florence's new singles may not be their respective best, but I do rather like them. I just wish this onslaught of new #1s would end and we see some longevity at the top, that's the result of constant holding back of singles though. Rihanna has proven that On Air On Sale can indeed work (We Found Love is not quite On Air On Sale but may as well have been).

Thanks GD. Yes I saw Adele live in Glasgow last weekend and she was brilliant ... one of the best I've been to in a long time.
