Thanks GD. It was very close between Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Adele for my #1 ... gonna be close again next week. The Britney new entry is actually meant to be Hold It Against Me, Baby One More Time must've got in there by mistake as I usually only chart current songs.

007 Chart Commentary
Here is my month by month summary of the year 2010. Ejoy! On a side note ... Unfortunately you may not be seeing many more weekly commentaries from me in 2011 as I will have less time. However there is always Suedehead's brilliant commentary to keep you going! January The first week of the year saw a return of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance to #1 as neither Joe McElderry nor Rage could maintain sales to last more than a week at #1 each, despite huge sales. Several songs reached a new peak due to the absence of big new releases - Ke$ha reached #4 with Tik Tok and Florence & The Machine reached #5 with her cover of You've Got the Love, Florence's Lungs album went back to #1 as well. 2 new acts made big selling debuts in the top 2 - #1 went to a new singer from the British Virgin Islands named Iyaz with Replay, ahead of a big dance track Riverside from Sidney Samson. Both tracks are in the top 40 of the year, along with US synth pop project Owl City, brainchild of US singer Adam Young, who spent 3 weeks at #1 with Fireflies. Rapper Example scored his first top 10 hit as he said that he Won't Go Quietly, JLS had One Shot to get another top 10 hit and Canadian teen sensation Justin Bieber debuted with One Time which hit #11. The Glee TV series became a sensation and the music from its cast hit the charts numerous times, most of the tracks entered high and dropped quickly however Don't Stop Believin' became huge, peaking at #2 and staying top 40 for 17 weeks in total. February February saw Alicia Keys score her biggest selling UK single as a down tempo solo version of the Jay Z collaboration Empire State Of Mind hit #4, subtitled Part 2 (Broken Down), also Alicia's album Element Of Freedom went to #1. Mr Z scored another top 10 hit with a cover of Young Forever, alongside Mr Hudson who also teamed up with N-Dubz for top 20 hit Playing With Fire. Katy Perry was featured on 2 different tracks which peaked at #3 - 3 Oh 3's Starstrukk and Timbaland's If We Ever Meet Again, more on Ms Perry later. Novelty Irish twins and X-Factor contestants Jedward made their chart debut, just missing #1 as their mash-up of Under Pressure / Ice Ice Baby hit #2. Marina & The Diamonds became the first act from the BBC Sound of 2010 poll to score a hit, as Hollywood reached #12, her debut album Family Jewels hit #5. Following the Haiti earthquake disaster a charity single was organised by Simon Cowell, various artists came together to cover REM's Everybody Hurts, which got the year's highest weekly sale of just under 500k. Lemar scored another top 10 hit with The Way Love Goes, and following a Brit Awards performance, Florence & Dizzee Rascal teamed up for You Got The Dirtee Love and hit #2. US singer Jason Derulo hit #1 with In My Head, BBC Sound winner Ellie Goulding made a #4 single debut with Starry Eyed and #1 album with Lights, and Sugababes mark 4.0 hit #7 with Wear My Kiss but flopped with their Sweet 7 album. March March was the month that rapper Tinie Tempah made his debut at #1 with Pass Out, Tinie would go on to be one of the year's biggest success stories, his album Disc-Overy also went top 5. Rihanna got another #2 hit with Rude Boy, she would also go on to become a huge success in 2010 with her next album and singles. Shortly after the death of Boyzone's Stephen Gately, the group returned to the top 10 with Gave It All Away and had a huge #1 album Brother. Top 20 debuts came from Serbian DJ Gramophonedzie with a Peggy Lee sampling Why Don't We, Daisy Dares You with her Chipmunk featuring Number One Enemy, and R&B singer McLean with My Name. Australian Gabriella Cilmi hit #9 with On A Mission but flopped with her album Ten, Justin Bieber scored a huge #3 hit with Baby and huge top 5 album with My World. Lady Gaga & Beyonce together finally hit #1 with Telephone following the release of its contraversial video, Gaga's album The Fame was a huge #1 also. The comeback from Scouting For Girls surprised many by not only hitting #1 but selling quite well and staying for 2 weeks on top, This Ain't A Love Song. Plan B scored a big hit single with She Said and even bigger album with the chart topping Defamation Of Strickland Banks, another of 2010's big sucesses. Following an online campaign Chritian group Delirious hit #4 with History Makers in time for Easter. April April saw debuts from rapper Professor Green with his INXS sampling Need You Tonight, Disney star Selena Gomez & The Scene and also Eliza Doolittle with moderate #22 debut Skinny Genes. US star Usher alongside Will I Am finally made #1 with the long enduring hit OMG. Kelis scored another top 5 hit with Acapella, Kate Nash had a moderate #15 hit with Doo Wah Doo, and US country group Lady Antebelum made #21 with Need You Now. The "modfather" Paul Weller made another chart return, hitting #26 with double single No Tears To Cry and title track to his #2 album Wake Up The Nation, beaten by metal rockers AC/DC to #1. Quirky X-Factor contestant Diana Vickers made her debut with a #1 single Once and #1 album Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree, however both were very quick to fade. Urban collaborative Roll Deep scored the first of their 2 #1s in 2010 with Good Times and became only the second act to spend 3 weeks at the top, but thereafter the track was quick to fade. N-Dubz didn't Say It's OVer as they hit #20 with said track, neither did Glee Cast as they continued to score hit after hit with their covers, also Meat Loaf proved his career was not over as his Hang Low Teddy Bear album hit #4. May May saw the highest chart placings for Aussie drum & bass group Pendulum - Watercolour made #4 in the singles and Immersion became their first #1 album. Sophie Ellis Bextor's comeback was a bit Bittersweet for her, as her new single could only make #25. Guillemot's lead singer Fyfe Dangerfield scored a top 10 hit with his cover of Billy Joel's She's Always A Woman, from a John Lewis TV advertisement. Jason Derulo scored a third top 5 hit with Ridin' Solo, Taio Cruz a third top 10 hit with Dirty Picture alongside Ke$ha who scored a third top 20 of her own with Your Love Is My Drug. Big dance hit Stereo Love hit #4 for Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina and Rihanna got a moderate top 20 hit with Te Amo. Christina Aguilera's comeback was not as big as expected, Not Myself Tonight made #12 but disappeared quickly and album Bionic hit #1 but dropped faster than a ton of bricks by going 1-28 the following week. Leeds United football team prevented Muse from hitting the top 10 as Leeds Leeds Leeds made #10 and Neutron Star Collision hit #11. Rapper BoB and singer Bruno Mars made their chart debut together as Nothing On You hit #1, both would go on to further huge success. Katie Melua came back with the first of 3 tracks entitled The Flood and top 5 album The House. Dizzee Rascal got himself a 5th UK #1 with Dirtee Disco but was very quick to disappear, becoming a recurring theme for #1s in 2010. Iyaz had a 2nd hit with Solo at #3, Eminem comeback with top 5 single Not Afraid and long running #1 album Recovery, David Guetta got another #1 with Gettin' Over You, also N-Dubz scored their 2nd biggest hit with We Dance On. June June saw Dizzee Rascal score another #1 hit with Shout For England alongside James Corden, this was for the 2010 football world cup. That track kept both Tinie Tempah's 2nd track Frisky and Wavin' Flag by K'naan at #2. Example scored his biggest hit as he kickstarted his way to #3 with the huge Kickstarts, just ahead of Kylie Minogue's comeback - single All The Lovers made #3 a few weeks later and album Aphrodite hit #1. Swedish singer Robyn had a #8 hit with Dancing On My Own, and released her album Body Talk in 3 stages but still flopped. Katy Perry had a massive hit as her own comeback single California Gurls hit #1 and sold very well indeed, another of 2010's big success stories. Scissor Sisters' comeback was rather more understated as single Fire With Fire made #11 and album Night Work hit #2 but sold moderately. Enrique Iglesias sampled Lionel Richie and told us all how much he liked it, I Like It hit #4 and album Euphoria did not to shabbily either. Lady Gaga hit top 10 with Alejandro and Kelly Rowland hit top 20 with a little help from David Guetta, proclaiming she is the Commander! July July saw boyband JLS score a 3rd #1 hit with The Club Is Alive, another of the year's #1s to disappear quickly after debuting at the top on big hype. Eliza Doolittle improved massively on her debut as 1940's sampling Pack Up hit #5, along with a top 5 self titled album. There was another huge dance track released this month, foreign language semi-instrumental hit We No Speak Americano by Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup. Tom Jones came very close to scoring a #1 album with Praise & Blame and rockers Avenged Sevenfold hit #5 with album Nightmare. The club may not be able to handle Flo Rida but the charts certainly could as said track went on to #1, with help from David Guetta once more. August In August there was another flash in the pan number one as Neyo got his third #1 with Beautiful Monster but sold modestly. Hoosiers made a slightly understated comeback as their new electro influenced single Choices hit #11 and album hit #10, but both were quick to go. Jason Derulo got himself another hit as ballad What If made #12, dubstep act DJ Fresh got a long running top 30 hit with Gold Dust, and Drake got his first top 30 hit with Find Your Love. Girl group the Saturdays were beaten to #1 by Flo Rida for the second time, as Missing You hit #3 as lead single from their Headlines mini-album. Tinchy Stryder made a return but not nearly as big as before, lead single In My System stumbled in at #10. Love The Way You Lie by Eminem & Rihanna was initially a cherry pick from Eminem's album with little promotion, but became so big they had to release it as a single. Said song went on to sell 850k+ copies despite peaking at #2 several times, also becoming the best seller of the year in the process. Roll Deep got a second #1 but faded quickly again with Green Light, Dynamite also got Taio Cruz his second #1 however that went on to be a massive hit. Dubstep singer songwriter Katy B debuted at #5 with the massive Katy On A Mission, also Brandon Flowers released his first solo material outside the Killers - single Crossfire made #8 and album Flamingo flew to #1 and sold very well. September More to follow for the busy last 4 months ...

007 Weekly Chart - Christmas 2010
Thanks GD as ever! The Flood had to drop out of my top 10 some time, still really like it but it's slightly over played now ... it is a big contender for my Year End chart topper. I really like Thinking About Me and actually prefer it to Olly's first. Rihanna did eventually make #1 with Only Girl (kept off initially by The Flood's massive 7 week run), I'm really getting into What's My Name so it might climb anouther 1 place! 007 Chart Commentary - 26th Dec 2010
Matt Cardle still #1 with When We Collide X-Factor winner Matt Cardle remains at #1 for a second week as last week’s chart topper and xmas #1 is still selling very well indeed. It is likely for Matt to stay at the top for a third week next week as there is little competition, except perhaps Rihanna/Drake who stick at #2 this week. That being the case, When We Collide will be only the third single to stay at #1 for more than a fortnight this year – Owl City’s Fireflies and Roll Deep’s Good Times are the others. Matt has come a little way short of the year’s #1 single at this stage, although that may well change at the last minute as we have another 6 days to go. That honour looks like going to Love The Way You Lie by Eminem & Rihanna, which interestingly enough only peaked at #2 during its 28+ week chart run. Katy B feat Ms Dynamite – Lights On enters at #4 This week’s highest new entry goes to Katy Brien and Niomi Arleen McLean-Daley, professionally known as Katy B and Ms Dynamite. Katy B has already had 2 hits this year, the massive #5 hit Katy On A Mission and #16 Perfect Stranger alongside Magnetic Man. For this new single, Katy has collaborated with Ms Dynamite who had 2 top 10 hits in 2002 It Takes More and Dy-na-mi-tee and was last seen featuring on DJ Zinc’s #38 hit Wile Out. Katy B also provides vocals for the Count & Sinden album track Hold Me. Cheryl Cole – The Flood enters at #26 Cheryl Cole gets her fifth top 40 hit as lead artist with the third track this year entitled The Flood. It breaks in at #26 and spending the last few weeks just outside the top 40. This is Ms Cole’s second single from her Messy Little Raindrops album, following on from #1 Promise This and last year’s Fight For This Love, 3 Words and Parachute. I would expect the flood to get higher over the next couple of weeks before receding, those messy little raindrops must be causing it! Ben Hazelby, Jamie Hazelby & Chris De Burgh – Lonely Sky enters at #36 This week’s surprise new entry comes from a charity single with very little promotion. Producer Stuart Epps (Elton John, Oasis and Led Zeppelin, etc), was asked to work on a charity single with Chris De Burgh and two brothers as part of the TV show Noel’s Christmas Presents. Chris De Burgh has of course been responsible for hits such as Lady In Red, Missing You and Don’t Pay The Ferryman in the past. Lonely Sky was originally an album track from Chris’s own second album from 1975 Spanish Train and Other Stories. This reworking becomes a #36 new entry in the singles chart, with the proceeds going towards St Ann's Hospice in Greater Manchester. Take That remain #1 with Progress Take That continue to fend off all competition (not that there is much) to get a sixth week at #1, last album to stay this long at the top was MJ’s Essential last year following his death. At #2 is Rihanna with her huge selling Loud album, which is incidentally the year’s #4 best seller behind Gaga at #3, Buble at #2 and Take That at #1. There are no new entries inside the weekly albums top 40 but there are re-entries from Mumford & Sons, Take That and Lady Gaga Personal opinion Good to see Matt stay at #1 and Rihanna stay at #2, ahead of all the rest. Not keen on Katy B and Ms Dynamite’s song, although it is better than that Katy On A Mission nonsense at least. That Lonely Sky song is reasonable I guess, it’s for a good cause so I’ll not say anything bad really about it. I quite like Cheryl’s new song, although not as good as some of her other songs … pity that she still can’t sing live though!

007 Chart Commentary - 19th Dec 2010
Matt Cardle – When We Collide is the xmas #1 for 2010 Just in case anyone has been living under a rock for the past week or so, Matt Cardle was crowned winner of ITV’s X-Factor for 2010! As his winner’s single, he has covered the Biffy Clyro track Many Of Horror and changed the name to When We Collide. Despite many campaigns to “beat the X-Factor” and “stick two fingers up to Simon Cowell” Matt has emerged victorious, unlike last year when Rage Against The Machine beat Joe McElderry (only for Joe to get his #1 the following week). The original Many Of Horror was a #20 hit for Scottish band Biffy Clyro earlier this year and re-enters at #8 this week. Rihanna – What's My Name rises to #2 and Unfaithful re-enters at #31 Without a doubt this is the week of Rihanna as she is now featured on no less than 5 of this week’s top 40 singles. Leading the way is What’s My Name which features Drake, following an X-Factor performance the track rises 2 places to become xmas #2. Also following an X-Factor duet, her 2006 #2 hit Unfaithful re-enters at #31. In addition, her Eminem duet Love The Way You Lie stays on the top 40 for half a year and is well ahead as the year’s biggest seller despite peaking at … you’ve guessed it #2! The David Guetta track Who’s That Chick drops to #15 whilst Only Girl (In The World) drops to #9. Trashmen – Surfin' Bird enters at #3 Now for something totally different sounding, we have Surfin’ Bird by the Trashmen in at #3 this week. The Trashmen are a rock & roll band from Minneapolis first formed in 1962, with Surfin’ Bird providing the band with a #4 hit over there when originally released. Last year, the animated TV programme Family Guy used the track and it made #50 in the UK. Now a Facebook group has been set up with the aim to get this track to #1 and beat Matt, however it has fallen short by quite some way in the end. John Cage – 4' 33" enters at #21 John Cage was an American music composer, philosopher, poet, mycologist and mushroom collector who was born in 1912, and died in 1992. One of Cage’s many compositions included a piece entitled 4’33” in 1952, essentially comprising of silence, or more specifically … the sound of the surrounding atmosphere. This year, a Facebook group was set up to get this track to xmas #1 and beat the X-Factor, meaning that people would rather buy silence than another predictable cover. This has clearly not been the case as the track enters at #21 and will likely be gone very quickly as the novelty wares off. However the proceeds of this do go to 5 different charities so there are some benefits. Tinie Tempah feat Kelly Rowland – Invincible enters at #32 Rapper Tinie Tempah scores his fourth hit of the year, fifth if you include the Swedish House Mafia track Miami 2 Ibiza. Invincible enters at #32 and features additional vocals from ex-Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland. This follows #1 debut Pass Out, #2 follow up Frisky, #1 third single Written In The Stars and the aforementioned #4 hit Miami 2 Ibiza. All these tracks come from his debut album Disc-overy, Invincible is likely to climb in the coming weeks though. Corey Taylor – X-M@$ enters at #37 Corey Taylor may not exactly be a household name to most, he has been lead singer of Slipknot and Stone Sour. However he does have his Christmas song enter at #37 this week. Slipknot were active between 2000 and 2008 with their biggest hit being #15 Duality in 2004, Stone Sour only had 1 top 40 hit #28 Bother in 2003. Take That get the xmas #1 Album Take That extend their run at #1 to 5 weeks this week as Progress can now lay claim to being the Christmas #1 album for 2010. Rihanna rises to #2 with Loud and Mr Bubble drops a place to #3. This week’s highest new entry comes from Michael Jackson with the first collection of songs he was working on prior to his death last year, Michael enters at #4. Not much more of note on the albums front, except that Robbie returns to the top 10 with his hits compilation and top 40 re-entries from Biffy Clyro, Adele and Cee Lo Green. Personal opinion I am actually glad to see this year’s X-Factor winner get the #1 as I think Matt Cardle has been a worthy winner and the song was well chosen, unlike last year’s rubbish from Joe McWhatshisname! I really like What’s My Name now and am happy to see that #2 for Rihanna, I also like Unfaithful and good to see it back. I am glad that terrible Surfin’ Bird didn’t make it near #1 for the appropriately named Trashmen, almost as pointless as that 4½ minutes of silence being passed off as “art” … most deserved flop of the year. Corey Taylor’s song is quite funny I guess in a novelty sort of way, I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it tough. Whilst it is totally wrong to make money out of Jacko’s death, I actually quite like his new album.

Thanks Zeus that's interesting ... I would include MJ's History as it is a hits compilation and a studio album at the same time! ;-)
