Dizzee Rascal gets the new #1 with Dirtee Disco UK grime rapper Dylan Kwabena Mills first came to prominence in 2003 with debut album Boy In Da Corner, along with several minor to mid hit singles and critical acclaim. His commercial breakthrough came in 2008 when Dance Wiv Me hit #1 alongside Calvin Harris, followed by #1s Bonkers (with Arman Van Helden) and Holiday (also with Calvin Harris) in 2009. These 3 #1s and #10 single Dirtee Cash are featured on his hit album Tongue n Cheek. New single Dirtee Disco which becomes his fourth will also appear on the deluxe edition of said album and samples the 1972 Staple Singers track I’ll Take You There. Dizzee takes this to the top! Iyaz – Solo enters at #3 The battle for #1 this week was between Dizzee, BoB and this track from Iyaz, which comes in at #3. Solo is the second single from Virgin Island born singer Keidran Jones, better known by his stage name of Iyaz. Discovered by Sean Kingston last year through MySpace, Iyaz scored a UK #1 with his debut Replay and now #3 with the second single Solo. On his last single he complained about his iPod being stuck on replay, probably the reason that he is now solo! Eminem – Not Afraid enters at #5 US rapper Eminem (Marshall Bruce Mathers III) makes a return to the upper reaches of the UK charts to show us that he’s not afraid! Slim Shady made his debut in 1999 when the Slim Shady LP spawned his first hit single My Name Is which hit #2 amidst controversy. The controversy, headlines and hits continued until 2005 when he announced that he was taking a break. Then in 2009, Eminem returned with the album Relapse and top 5 hits Crack A Bottle and We Made You, as well as #12 hit Beautiful. In at #5, Not Afraid is now Eminem’s 22nd UK top 40 hit so far, only 2 have missed the top 10. N-Dubz feat Bodyrox – We Dance On enters at #6 This week hip hop collective group N-Dubz notch up a seventh UK top 40 hit as new single We Dance On debuts at #6, making it their second highest charting. This comes just a few weeks after Say It’s Over was a #20 hit for the group as the third from their Against All Odds album. We Dance On is taken from the soundtrack to the film Street Dance and featured dance house music DJ Bodyrox whose biggest hit Yeah Yeah came in 2006. K’Naan – Wavin’ Flag enters at #16 Now for the next football related song to enter the UK charts, step forward Somalian rapper / singer K’Naan with Wavin’ Flag. K’Naan appeared alongside Keane on their latest single Stop For A Minute which got to #40 a fortnight ago, and another of their album tracks. The song Wavin’ Flag has been chosen as Coca Cola’s promotional anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and also featured in the video game NBA 2K10. The song has been a massive hit in Switzerland and in Canada, where a Haiti charity version also became a hit. Wavin’ Flag is now a UK top 20 hit as it enters at #16. Ke$ha – Your Love Is My Drug climbs to #18 US singer Ke$ha notches up a third top 20 hit of her own to be lifted from her debut album Animal. This follows top 5 debut single Tik Tok which took 9 weeks to peak at #4 late last year, and #11 single Blah Blah Blah alongside 3 Oh 3. Danielle Hope – Over The Rainbow enters at #29 In March this year, a new BBC series started fronted by Andrew Lloyd Webber to find the new Dorothy for a new Wizard Of Oz stage production. The eventual winner of the series entitled Over The Rainbow was Danielle Hope, whose rendition of the title song enters inside the top 30 at #29 this week. The song Over The Rainbow was originally sung by Judy Garland for the original 1939 film Oz, and covered by many others since including Katie Melua/Eva Cassidy, Cliff Richard and Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. Michael Buble – Haven’t Met You Yet re-enteres at #38 It’s amazing what a high profile TV show appearance can do for you! Canadian singer Michael Buble finds many of his tracks regaining popularity this week, following his Audience With programe last weekend. Never really a singles artist but more of an album seller, Haven’t Met You Yet peaked at #4 and has proven to be a huge hit for Mr Bubble. This comes back at #38, along with Home, Feeling Good, Cry Me A River and Everything outside the top 40 also. Pendulum top the albums chart with Immersion Pendulum have the UK’s very first drum & bass album chart topper this week. Topping the UK album charts for the first time with their third studio album Immersion, following on from #4 single Watercolour. Hot on their heels at #2 is the resurgence of Michael Buble with Crazy Love as it leaps 19-2. Glee Cast get their fourth album chart entry of the year entitled The Music vol 3 – Showstoppers, in at #3. In at #4 is Katie Melua with her forth studio album entitled The House, marking a bit more of a dancier sound for her. Other new entries come from Stornoway (named after a lovely Scottish island), Billy Joel (reissued hits compilation) and flops from Agnes, Vera Lynn and Elvis. The opinionated bit … according to 007 I was rather hoping we’d see an end to all this urban drivel at the top of the charts, alas Dizzee gets his fourth rubbish chart topper (no idea how he’s managed that)! On saying that I don’t mind the new Iyaz song, not as good as Replay but still listenable. Also listenable but not great is Eminem’s new song, but I do get the feeling that we’ve heard it all before. Same also can be said for N-Dubz who dish out another pile of rubbish which even Bodyrox can’t save from me not liking! I’m not a big fan of K’Naan’s Waving Flag, Ke$ha’s drivel or of Danielle Hope’s Over The Rainbow … for completely different reasons. To end on a positive note … HURTS new song is very good and Better Than Love surely deserved to make top 40 at least.

Thanks for that good bit of extra information there. I'd say that although it is the same artist and same title, it does have additional tracks and a different generation are buying it now so it should be counted as a new album.

BoB feat Bruno Mars - Nothin' On You is the UK’s brand new #1 After 3 weeks at #1 Roll Deep are knocked off by another hotly anticipated new urban / rap track. American rapper, songwriter and producer Bobby Ray Simmons gets this week’s brand new #1 with his debut UK single Nothin’ On You. BoB has been featured in XXL and Vibe magazines recently, widely tipped as the next big thing on the urban scene. As is often the case with rap songs there is a feature vocalist, this time Hawaiian singer Bruno Mars appears on vocals. BoB faces stiff competition next week from Dizzee Rascal, Iyaz, Over The Rainbow winner and several football related songs. Alexandra Burke - All Night Long climbs to #4 Coming in just behind Jason Derulo and Roll Deep is Alexandra Burke, whose single is fully released this week with the addition of a version featuring rapper Pitbull. All Night Long thus jumps 4 places to land at #4, beating the peak of her last single Broken Heals and to land her third top 5 hit (forth top 10) since winning the X-Factor. Leeds United Team & Supporters - Leeds Leeds Leeds (Marching On Together) enters at #10 Now for the first of what will surely be many football related tracks to appear in the charts. This one is not actually an England world cup related song but one from Leeds Utd, as can be seen from the title of the song! Leeds United Football Club released a song in 1972, to which the B Side was an original composition entitled Marching On Together. Now fast forward 38 years and the song has been digitally remastered and re-released to coincide with the team’s promotion back to the Championship this month. The track is essentially a re-entry at #10 under the title of Leeds Leeds Leeds, matching the peak of the original. Muse - Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever) enters at #11 UK rockers Muse have a collision course with the top 20 this week as new single Neutron Star Collision enters at #11. Taken from the soundtrack of The Twilight Saga film, this is now the band’s 15th top 20 hit in total since they first formed in 1999. Renowned for their live performances, the band have to date had 25 single releases, 5 studio albums (the last 3 were #1s), a live album and also made appearances on several soundtracks. So they haven’t done much then!!! Pretty Reckless - Make Me Wanna Die enters at #16 US alternative rock band The Pretty Reckless make their chart debut this week with the single Make Me Wanna Die at #16. Formed only last year, the band was originally to be called The Reckless but due to trademark issues had to settle for The Pretty Reckless. This debut single was given away free on the band’s website a few months ago, and now appears on the Kick Ass soundtrack as well as standalone single. Sean Kingston & Justin Bieber - Eenie Meenie enters at #17 Entering at #17 this week is a collaboration between Jamaican-American rapper turned singer Sean Kingston and Canadian teen singer Justin Bieber. Eenie Meenie is the first of 2 songs recorded by the pair, this one is due to be on Kingston’s third album and the other Down To Earth is on Bieber’s My World album. Eenie Meenie is the third top 20 hit for both artists – Beautiful Girls was #1 in 2007 and Fire Burning #12 in 2009 for Kingston, whilst One Time was #11 and Baby #3 for Bieber this year so far. Train - Hey Soul Sister climbs to #18 As is often the case nowadays, here is another example of a track continuing to climb after its official release. Moving 22-18 this week, Hey Soul Sister has now become the second UK top 20 hit for Californian brand Train. The other of course being their #10 debut single Drops Of Jupiter in 2001. The Squad - 3 Lions 2010 enters at #21 And for another football song, a brand new version of the England anthem 3 Lions enters the chart at #21. The song was originally released by the Lightning Seeds with David Baddiel and Frank Skinner in 1996 as the official England anthem. It promptly topped the charts in that year and also hit #1 as a re-recorded version in 1998, then in 2002 the song hit #16 once more and most recently it made #9 in 2006. Now another version has been recorded featuring the likes of Robbie Williams and comedian Russell Brand under the name of The Squad, almost making top 20 once again. Ellie Goulding - Guns & Horses enters at #26 Hotly tipped singer songwriter Ellie Goulding shoots and trots her way to a second top 40 hit this week at #26 with her Guns & Horses! Ellie of course topped the BBC Sound Of 2010 poll and won the Critics Choice Award at the Brits then scored a top 5 hit with Starry Eyed and #1 album with Lights. Glee Cast - Jessie's Girl enters at #33 Out of this week’s Glee releases, the highest entry is perhaps the least well known of all the songs. Jessie’s Girl was originally recorded and released by pop singer Rick Springfield in 1984, but could only get to #43. Now the track enters 10 places higher at #33 to give Glee their 12th top 40 hit this year so far, other tracks released this week include U2’s One, Brandy & Monica’s The Boy Is Mine and The Lady Is A Tramp. Ke$ha - Your Love Is My Drug enters at #34 US singer Ke$ha gets a third top 40 hit as a lead artist this week, as Your Love Is My Drug enters at #34. Ke$ha first featured on Flo Rida’s #1 hit Right Round, then scored a top 5 hit of her own on the mega-hit Tik Tok, which was followed by #11 hit Blah Blah Blah (with 3 Oh 3). Katie Melua - The Flood enters at #35 Georgian born British singer songwriter Katie Melua floods into the top 40 with the first single to be taken from her forthcoming new album The House. The Flood is Katie’s sixth solo top 40 hit, highest charting being Nine Million Bicycles which reached #5 in 2005 but her 2003 debut Closest Thing To Crazy was the biggest seller but only reached #10. In 2007, charity single What A Wonderful World was also a #1 for Katie along with the late Eva Cassidy. Nas feat Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley - As We Enter enters at #39 US rapper and actor Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones makes an entry into the charts this week, under the shortened name of Nas. His new single is a collaboration with Damian Marley (known as Jr Gong), the youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley. Welcome To Jamrock was Damian’s first album which spawned the #13 single of the same name and #39 hit Beautiful alongside Bobby Brown. This is now Nas’s tenth UK top 40 hit in total since 1996, when he scored his 2 biggest chart hits If I Ruled The World (feat Lauryn Hill) and Street Dreams #12. The Rolling Stones top the album charts again with Exile On Main Street To the surprise of many, the Rolling Stones are back at #1 in the album charts with a remastered version of their highly acclaimed 1972 album Exile On Main Street. The Stones enter above Faithless whose sixth studio album The Dance is only physically stocked by Tesco but still manages a #2 placing this week. Rock & roll band The Baseballs enter at #4 with their album Strike, which features alternative covers of the likes of Umbrella and Hot n Cold in a 1950s rock & roll style. Dance / punk band LCD Soundsystem enter the top 10 at #7 with their third and final album This Is Happening, fresh from a Jools Holland appearance. Other new entries this week include Fyfe Dangerfield, Band Of Horses, Rihanna’s box set, Sandi Thom and Train. Personal opinion I am no fan of urban / R&B / rap type of music, so it will come as no surprise that I don’t like Nothin’ On You by BoB and think it’s no better than Good Times which it replaced at #1. I really like Alexandra Burke’s All Night Long but don’t see the point in the new Pitbull version as he just ruins the song for me. I really like Muse’s new song, although not a huge fan of the band really … this one sounds a bit like Queen who I am a huge fan of anyway. Not keen on the Pretty Reckless song, it’s ok I guess but way better than that football rubbish that’s starting to invade the charts – 3 Lions is a classic but has been overdone too much now. I hate that Eenie Meenie song and think it sounds like a badly sung nursery rhyme … mind you Justin Bieber’s probably not long out of nursery anyway! Glee is rubbish as usual, Ke$ha must be on drugs to sound as bad as that and I don’t care too much for the Nas and Jr Marley song either. One song I do absolutely love is Katie Melua’s The Flood, a bit different style but equally gorgeous and nice to listen to.

Roll Deep – Good Times stays at #1 for a third week Roll Deep stay for a third week at the summit of the singles chart now, as once again none of the new entries prove to be a challenge. The last single to spend this long at #1 was Fireflies by Owl City at the beginning of this year, whilst the last one to do better was Lilly Allen’s The Fear at the beginning of last year which stayed for 4 weeks. Next week could see a new #1 though from BoB, another one to come from the urban / rap genre. Jason Derulo – Riding Solo climbs to #2 Jason Derulo gets another big rise with his new single Riding Solo to now follow in the footsteps of his first 2 by going top 3, landing at #2 this week. The #3 Imogen Heap sampling debut Whatcha Say, previous #1 In My Head (at #35 this week) and this track all come from his self titled album. It seems that Mr Derulo is more of a singles artist, as the album has sold modestly so far. Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina – Stereo Love enters at #4 This week’s highest new entry goes to a hotly tipped new dance track entitled Stereo Love by Edward Maya feat Vika Jigulina. Bucharest born musician, producer and performer Edward Maya first made a name for himself when he composed a song for the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. His first real breakthrough came last year when this track Stereo Love became a top 5 hit in 8 different countries, now it repeats that feat here in the UK. Maya has worked in the past with several Romanian artists, the one providing vocals on this track is Vika Jigulina, Stereo Love debuts at a respectable #4. Fyfe Dangerfield – She’s Always A Woman up to #7 and Alex Burke – All Night Long up to #8 Jason Derulo is not Riding Solo, as there are another 2 climbers into this week’s top 10 from 2 very different artists and 2 very different songs. Ex Guillemot Fyfe Dangerfield reaches #7 with his cover of Billy Joel’s She’s Always A Woman, which debuted at #14 last week after its use in the current John Lewis advert. Alexandra Burke scores a forth top 10 hit with All Night Long, with the single version (featuring Pitbull) due out next week, the track is likely to climb further. Glee Cast – Total Eclipse Of The Heart enters at #9 and Run Joey Run enters at #27[/u] The Glee tracks released last week didn’t make much of an impact, in fact none made the top 40 at all. This week is a different story with 2 making their debut, highest being their cover of Bonnie Tyler’s worldwide 1983 #1 Total Eclipse Of The Heart. In at #27 is Glee’s cover of Run Joey Run, a 1975 song by soft rock singer David Geddes but never charting in the UK until now. Christina Aguilera – Not Myself Tonight enters at #12 Following a very brief early release on iTunes, Christina Aguilera’s comeback single was finally released for real and enters at #12 this week. It is the first track to be taken from her forthcoming new album Bionic and now becomes her 15th lead artist top 20 hit (another 4 as featuring artist). She made her debut back in 1999 with the #1 Genie In A Bottle, the first of 4 #1s with the others being Dirrty (feat Redman), Beautiful and Lady Marmalade (alongside Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, Pink and Mya). Hopefully she gets back to being herself soon! Fugative – Crush enters at #26 16 year old Essex born rapper Harry James Byart gets his top 40 debut this week, better known as Fugataive. In 2009, he relelase his debut single Jimmy Shoes, followed by Supafly earlier on this year, now he enters at #26 with his third single release Crush. Fugative has toured with Basshunter and been championed by the likes of Radio 1. Kean feat K’naan – Stop For A Minute enters at #40 Right stop for a minute everyone … Keane return to the top 40 with their new single! The UK piano rock band first achieved mainstream success in 2004 when their debut album Hopes & Fears sold bucket loads and spawned 4 top 20 hits. This was followed in 2006 by another 4 top 30 hits from second album Under The Iron Sea, then in 2008 was third album Perfect Symmetry and top 30 single Spiralling. Teaming up with Somali born rapper K’naan, Stop For A Minute is now their tenth top 40 hit. Keane top the album charts with Night Train This week Keane score their forth #1 album to follow in the footsteps of Hopes & Fears, Under The Iron Sea and Perfect Symmetry. This is not actually a full album but essentially an 8 track EP but is termed as an album for chart purposes. Lady Gaga gets a new entry with her remixes album at #3, which is as the title suggests remixes of her songs! US Indie band The National get their first UK album chart entry (or chart entry of any description) with their fifth album The High Violet, entering at #5. Another Indie band enter the top 10 with their album, this time is it UK based band Foals with their second album Total Life Forever in at #8. Celine Dion enters at #11 with her live album, Slash in at 17 with his fully released album and Alicia Keys Platinum Collection in at #20. Personal opinion I still do not like that Roll Deep song that is till at #1, not Good Times for me when I hear it! I’m not normally a big fan of dance music in general, however I find something really good and appealing about Stereo Love. Good to see Fyfe Dangerfield’s gorgeous version of She’s Always A Woman make the top 10, equally good to see All Night Long become a top 10 hit for Alex. Not Myself Tonight is far from Christina’s best but it’s OK, just not a patch on Genie In A Bottle or Beautiful for me. I think Fugative’s Crush is terrible, but no worse than the likes of Tinie Tempah, Roll Deep or Prof Green mind you. Glee’s latest offerings are certainly not any better, I really Bonnie Tyler and really cringe at what Glee have done to it … I’ve not heard Run Joey Run but don’t particularly want to! Keane’s new one is good, rapper K’naan doesn’t really ruin it too badly.

Roll Deep stays at #1 with Good Times So may the good times roll for the number one single, as Roll Deep remain at the top with their Good Times for a second week running. Roll Deep head up an unchanged top 3 with Usher still in the #2 spot and Plan B remaining at #3 with She Said. They are unlikely to be #1 again next week as Stereo Love is fully released this week as is Crush by Fugative. Pendulum – Watercolour enters at #4 Australian drum & bass / rock group Pendulum get this week’s highest new entry and the biggest hit of their career with new single Watercolour. The band’s sound has been described as “heavy beats accompanied by low, buzzing basslines, overlaid with synthesised leads” … or something like that! Despite having widespread critical acclaim for their albums Hold Your Colour and In Silico as well as their live shows, Propane Nightmares remains their only top 10 hit. That made #9 in 2008, previously only Granite and Slam have made the top 40. All this changes as they hit top 5 with Watercolour, the first single from the forthcoming Immersion album. Aggro Santos & Kimberly Wyatt – Candy enters at #5 This week’s big urban cross over hit comes from Brazilian born rapper Aggro Santos with ex-Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt providing female vocals. The debut single from the pair is entitled Candy which enters straight into the top 10 this week at #5. The song has only really gathered significant airplay and exposure over the past week or 2, rather than being promoted for weeks / months prior to release. This is not to be confused with Paolo Nutini’s Candy, which was due a re-release but appears to have been cancelled now. Fyfe Dangerfield – She’s Always A Woman enters at #14 Best known for being the founder member and lead singer of the Guillemots, Fyfe Dangerfield scores his first solo UK top 40 hit. Earlier this year he released his debut album along with debut single She Needs Me which didn’t chart, same for Faster Than The Setting Sun, released a fortnight ago. Now thanks to its use in the current John Lewis advert, his cover of She’s Always A Woman debuts at #14. This comes just a week after the Billy Joel original entered the top 40 for the very first time at #29. Jason Derulo – Riding Solo rises to #12 and Alexandra Burke – All Night Long rises to #16 2 future hits that entered last week in the lower reaches of the top 40 experience a big rise into the top 20 this week. Jason Derulo is Riding Solo all the way up to #12 this week, and he doesn’t sing his name at the start of the song! Alexandra Burke has been working All Night Long to get her track up to #16 this week, this is now Alex’s forth single and makes the top 20. Train – Hey Soul Sister climbs to #22 Another of last week’s new entries to get a huge rise this week is Train’s Hey Soul Sister, moving 36-22 after full release. This effectively means that Train cannot be considered a one hit wonder group, coming 9 years after Drops Of Jupiter hit #10 here in the UK. Sophie Ellis Bextor – Bittersweet enters at #25 English pop music singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor first came to prominence as lead singer of indie band TheAudience who scored 2 top 40 hits in 1998. In 2000, Sophie provided vocals on Spiller’s massive dance hit Groovejet which topped the charts. Sophie then went on to score 6 top 10 hits from her first 3 studio albums, biggest singles being #2’s Take Me Home and Murder On The Dancefloor. Sophie has since fallen out of favour somewhat, none the less makes her return to the UK top 40 this week with brand new single Bittersweet. The single enters at #25 and precedes the forthcoming release of her forth studio album Straight To The Heart. Rihanna – Te Amo enters at #30 Barbadan superstar Rihanna gets herself another hit this week, Te Amo is the third single to be lifted from her Rated R album. To date Rihanna has scored a total of 10 top 5 hits out of a total of 14 releases, this being the 15th and looking likely to make the top 10 in the course of the next few weeks. The Rated R singles seem to be subject to change – First was originally going to be Wait Your Turn and ended up being Russian Roulette, then Hard was to be single #2 changed to Rude Boy, single #3 was to be Rockstar 101 but ended up being Te Amo. Kevin Rudolf feat Birdman, Lil Wayne & Jay Sean – I Made It enters at #37 US singer, songwriter and producer Kevin Rudolf is another act who can no longer be termed as a one hit wonder this week. Debut single Let It Rock hit #3 in early 2008, however follow up single Welcome To The World flopped as did several guest appearences he made in other songs. Well Kevin Rudolf can indeed say “I Made It” as far as the top 40 goes this week as his new single enters at #37! Biffy Clyro – Bubbles enters at #40 Rock band Biffy Clyro have certainly made a name for themselves over the past 2 years or so, which can be seen as their commercial breakthrough. First formed in 2001, the band did not score their first 20 hit until 2007 and now score 5 straight top 40 from this album, a feat which they also accomplished with last album Puzzle. Diana Vickers tops the album charts with Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree X Factor finalist Diana Vickers topped the singles chart a fortnight ago with single Once and now gets a #1 album with her debut Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree. US country group Lady Antebellum enter at #8 with their album of the same name as the single which has gone up to #21, Need You Now. Other new entries of note include Adam Lambert’s debut For Your Entertainment and metal rockers Deftones with their sixth studio album entitled Diamond Eyes. Personal opinion of 007! I still don’t like Good Times by Roll Deep and think it is generic urban rubbish, I’d have much preferred to see Usher reclimb to #1 or Plan B finally make it. I really like Pendulum’s new one, only really liked Propane Nightmares from them in the past … Watercolour does sound quite similar actually. More rap “crossover” rubbish at #5 in the shape of Candy, I’d have much preferred to see Paolo’s song of the same name at #5. I’m really liking Jason Derulo’s Riding Solo and am happy to see it climb up the charts quickly. Fyfe Dangerfield’s version of She’s Always A Woman is really nice, even if it is a note for note cover of the Billy Joel original. Whilst I quite like Sophie Ellis Bextor’s Bittersweet, it is far from her best … same can be said really for Te Amo by Rihanna. I don’t like Kevin Rudolf’s brand of rock / urban cross over, and don’t care too much for I Made It … too much autotune! I am happy to see the brilliant new album from Diana Vickers enter at the top there, fantastic album!
