  1. Thanks Mikey, I do really like Biffy's new one and think it's just as good as (maybe even better than) Many Of Horror which I think is still their best.

Scouting For Girls – This Ain’t A Love Song enters at #1 This commentary covers the last fortnight as there was little action last week (and I was away). More action at the top end of the charts this week, and something of a surprise to many. Scouting For Girls are a 3-piece indie-pop band who scored 3 long running top 10 hits in 2008 with She’s so Lovely, Elvis Ain’t Dead and Heartbeat, as well as a top 40 hit twice with It’s Not About You. Now the band make a triumphant return with the first single to be taken from their second album, This Ain’t A Love Song debuts at the very top by a comfortable margin too. This is not to be confused with Bon Jovi’s hit of the same name! Plan B – She Said enters at #3 Lady Gaga & Beyonce hang up their Telephone after a 2 week connection with #1. This week’s second highest new entry at #3 belongs to rapper turned singer Ben Drew, better known as Plan B. Plan B already has 2 #9 hits under his belt, first as a featured artist on Chase & Status End Credits then on his very own Stay Too Long … which didn’t. Now all goes according to plan as She Said debuts at #3 as a true breakthrough hit. Delirious? – History Makers enters at #4 Well I never saw this coming, a top 5 entry from Christian rock group Delirious? (yes the ? is correct) as they become history makers by scoring their biggest hit ever. The band first formed in 1992 under the name of Cutting Edge Band as a worship band for a youth outreach event. Then in 1996 Delirious? formed properly, made #20 then #36 with best seller Deeper then peaked at #16 with highest peaking See The Star. The band have now split up, however there has been an online campaign to get a Christian song into the top 40 in time for Easter, which has proved a huge success. History Makers was originally a track on the first Delirious? album and now becomes their 7th top 40 hit in at #4. Usher feat Will I Am – OMG climbs to #8 Last week’s highest new entry and only one into the top 20 came from US superstar Usher who this week rises to #8 … OMG Usher is in the top 10! This is perhaps surprising as last single flopped and this new track has had very little airplay prior to this week. Usher has had 3 #1 singles in the UK – You Make Me Wanna from his 1998 debut album, Yeah and Burn both from 2004. He was last seen in the charts in 2008 with huge #4 hit Love In This Club and #25 hit Moving Mountains. There is another track called OMG due for release shortly, that one is by Sabrina Washington. Timbaland feat Justin Timberlake – Carry Out climbs to #16 Timbaland gets his third top 20 hit to be taken from his Shock Value II album, in the shape of Carry Out which features Justin Timberlake. Like Nelly Furtado and Katy Perry, JT has recently been collaborating with other artists rather than appearing on his own material, which has proved very successful in most cases. Timbaland has had 2 #1s Give It To Me and the grammatically challenged The Way I Are as well as #3 Apologize and #6 Morning After Dark and If We Ever Meet Again, which is still top 20. David Guetta feat Kid Cudi – Memories climbs to #30 David Guetta entered the top 40 last week and climbs to the top 30 this week, with single #4 to be lifted from his latest album One Love. This follows massive #1s When Love Takes Over (with Kelly Rowland) and Sexy Bitch (with Akon) as well as flop single One Love which has Estelle on vocals. Memories is Kid Cudi’s second appearance following huge #2 hit Day & Night alongside rapper Crookers. Florence & The Machine – Dog Days Are Over climbs to #34 Florence & The Machine finally made the top 30 with Dog Days Are Over after an appearance on Jools Holland’s Hottenanny at the start of this year. Now the track is due to get a full release shortly and has scraped back into the top 40 last week and now climbs to #34. This week’s also rans Scottish indie pop singer Alex Gardner is keen to let us know that he is not mad, but just misses out on a top 40 entry. Sarah Phillips released a tribute to her mother who is dying of cancer, her cover of Paolo Nutini’s Autumn just missed the top 40 last week. As did dance act Audio Bullys with their new track Only Man, same for Craig David and Boy George with their newbies. Robbie Williams missed out once again, even the boost of Sports Relief was not enough to help Morning Sun into the top 40. Arctic Monkeys miss out with their new single My Propeller, as does Mr Hudson with Anyone But Him and 30 Seconds to Mars as they declare war. Boyzone stay at #1 in the albums Last week Boyzone reclaimed the #1 spot in the albums chart with Brother and stay there this week, following an ITV special tribute to Stephen Gately. Last week, Justin Bieber re-released his first album under the name of My Worlds and entered a place higher at #3, where he remains this week. Laura Marling get her best position yet of #4 with I Speak Because I Can, this week dropping to #18. Goldfrapp went Head First into #6 with their new album last week, tumbling to #24 this week. Paul Rodgers gets a #10 new entry with his retrospective covering his work with Free and Bad Company combined. Madonna enters the top 20 this week with her live album from the Sticky & Sweet tour. Craig David also enters at #13 with his 5th album Signed Sealed Delivered, outpeaking his last by 5 places. Personal opinion I am pleasantly surprised to see Scouting For Girls get #1 with This Ain’t A Love Song, I have always liked their previous stuff and this is not much different but still rather good. I really like She Said by Plan B as it is a little bit different to much of the stuff around just now. I have always rather liked Delirious and their music, History Maker has always been a favourite of mine … good to see them get the recognition they deserve. I don’t care too much for Usher’s OMG nothing great really, same can be said for Timbaland’s Carry Out as well.
  5. Thanks GD ... I liked the 3 big singles from SFG (Lovely, Elvis and Heartbeat) and their new one just as much. :D

  10. It is partly having seen the video quite a few times and the song itself growing on me properly, thought the song was just OK at first, now I really like it. I actually have had Paloma's album since it first came out, just I saw her live this week and that made me like many of the songs more.

Thanks for your feedback guys, that annoying spelling of colors has been corrected (didn't think to check that) as has the #25 typo for Skepta. I see someone else has closed my other duplicate post ... my browser was acting up.

Lady Gaga feat Beyonce – Telephone climbs to #1 Following the full release and continued airing of the video, superstars Lady Gaga & Beyonce call in at #1 this week. This track didn’t seem to establish a connection at first but then rose to #12 following video release. This week both artists have rung up their forth chart topper each, with a second double as the album The Fame Monster returns to #1. Exactly a year ago Poker Face topped the singles chart after lagging behind all week and also scoring a double with the original The Fame album. Cheryl Cole – Parachute climbs to #6 Despite her continuing personal problems and laryngitis curtailing her promotion efforts this week, it seems that Cheryl Cole doesn’t need a parachute to climb another 2 places. Even although Parachute is likely to peak lower than her last single 3 Words (which managed #4), it is very likely to outsell it in the long run. This is one of many examples whereby peak position does not necessarily tell the full story. Cheryl also fights her way back into the top 40 at #40 with her former chart topper. Inna – Hot enters at #8 Romanian dance singer Elena Alexandra Apostoleanu gets her very first UK top 40 hit this week, going under the name of the rather more palatable Inna. Having been a huge hit in many countries in 2008 and 2009, Hot is finally released here and has indeed caught fire by entering at #8 highest new entry. Black Eyed Peas – Rock That Body climbs to #11 The forth single to be lifted from the Black Eyed Peas million selling album The E.N.D. rocks its way up another 4 places to land just outside the top 10. Even with this being its full release week, the track could still make the top 10 but matching the #1 success of the group’s last 3 singles is not likely. Skepta – Bad Boy enters at #26 British grime rapper Skepta enters at #26 with his new single Bad Boy, real name Joseph Junior Adenuga. Skepta has released a number of underground tracks from 2007’s Sweet Mother and 2008’s Rolex Sweep to 2009’s Sunglasses At Night. None of these releases ever became hits, however now he gets his top 40 debut becoming a Bad Boy in the process. Glee Cast – True Colors enters at #35 And so the latest of the weekly Glee Cast entries this week makes #35, a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s 1986 hit True Colors. This now marks Glee’s 7th top 40 hit this year alone, they now have the most amount of top 75 entries in 1 calendar year at 17 so far including this week’s … showing no signs of letting up anytime soon. Oh and their version of John Lennon's all time classic Imagine debuts lower down outside the top 40 this week also. This week’s misses Robbie’s Morning Sun becomes his first to miss the top 40, however there is still hope thanks to Sport Relief. Hotly tipped singer Rox misses the top 40 with My Baby Left Me, it seems the top 40 did also. Paloma Faith turns herself Upside Down but still cannot make the top 40 with her 4th release in total. Delphic missed out with their first single, now the second Halcyon also misses the top 40. Michael Buble’s cover of Cry Me A River misses out, however it has already made the top 40 on the back of X-Factor. Lady Gaga tops the album charts again with The Fame Monster So Lady Gaga perhaps unexpectedly tops the album charts this week despite being behind Glee and Boyzone all week, this could be attributed to the HMV sale and also to continued media coverage. So entering at #2 is the cast of Glee with volume 2 of The Music, whilst former #1 volume 1 remains within the top 10 also. Sugababes fans will not be happy that their long awaited new album Sweet 7 misses the top 10 this week, however 3 top 10 singles is still quite good I guess. Not a lot else in the way of new albums, except perhaps a live album from White Stripes and new album from rapper Ludacris. Personal opinion of 007! I am very happy to see Gaga/Beyonce finally top the singles chart with Telephone, the song has grown on me lots lately. I really love Cheryl’s new song Parachute and think I may even prefer this to Fight For This Love, which I also adore. Not keen on Inna’s Hot very much, it’s not terrible but just doesn’t do much for me really. I quite like Rock That Body by BEP but it’s not nearly as good as the last 2, I hate Skepta almost as much as Glee’s ruination of True Colours.

Well My Name's certainly not the best song around granted, maybe a bit generic. I don't mind it, there's a lot worse (Tinie, Bieber and all that Glee rubbish). I wasn't keen on Telephone at first but it is certainly growing on me now it's getting more airplay, still not Gaga or Beyonce's best work though. There's no denying Gorillaz music is quite different to anything else around, but their music has never really done much for me for some reason. I do still like Dare and Feel Good Inc but that's about it really!

Tine Tempah - Pass Out stays at #1 So staying at #1 for a second week is rapper Tine Tempah as he continues to make everyone pass out ... with excitement or with annoyance! With lyrics such as "I've got so many clothes I keep some at my aunt's house" and "I've been to Southampton but I've never been to Scunthorpe", he could hardly fail. Some thought that Rude Boy could rise another place to #1 for Rihanna, in the end the track is likely to become her 6th such single to peak at #2. Justin Bieber feat Ludacris - Baby enters at #3 Teen star Justin Bieber gets a second hit this week, coming just 7 weeks after his debut single One Time which peaked at a slightly lower than expected #11. Rather than releasing another single from his album My World, he has opted to release brand new track Baby and re-release his album in a week's time calling it My Worlds. It seems that this has paid off and given Justin a top 3 smash, entering as it does at #3 this week giving Rihanna and Tinie a run for their money. The track features rapper Ludacris, making Baby his biggest featuring track since the Usher collaboration Yeah hit #1 in 2004. Gabriella Cilmi - On A Mission enters at #9 Australian singer songwriter Gabriella cilmi first made a name for herself on these shores with her debut single Sweet about Me, which when first released peaked in the low top 40. However that changed as the track was used in adverts for Sure and Dove Bodywash, then after re-release peaked at #6. Followups Save The Lies (#33), Sanctuary (flop) and Warm This Winter (#22) somewhat struggled. Now however she is back to prove that she is On A Mission, she has accomplished another top 10 hit then. McLean - My Name enters at #10 English born singer McLean gets his very first top 40 hit this week entering at #10, his full name is Anthony McLean. He has released a single called Broken which failed to chart as it was on an independent label, McLean has also worked with MJ Cole and Chase & Status in the past. This is not to be confused with a well known toothpaste brand or a song title by Eminem (My Name Is). Lady Gaga feat Beyonce - Telephone climbs to #12 This week Telephone, the much hyped duet between US mega-stars Lady Gaga and Beyonce gets a massive boost and leaps up the charts to #12 after a somewhat sluggish start. This can be attributed to increasing airplay and exposure, and more so that the video for the track has finally been released and prompted people to buy the single. Telephone is fully released this week, which could well see it top the chart next week (top 5 is almost certain though). Steve Aoki feat Zuper Blahq - I'm In The House enters at #29 New dance track of the week enters at #29 for US club DJ Steve Aoki who proclaims that he is in the house, well he is certainly in the chart. Steve has produced and performed many underground club hits in the past, this is however his first commercial breakthrough, featuring Zuper Blahq who is actually Will i Am from Black Eyed Peas (whose Rock That Body rises to #15 this week). This week's amost hits! Missing out this week, perhaps rather surpisingly is Goldfrapp with their comeback single Rocket which cannot rocket up the charts very far it seems! Glasgow singer Amy MacDonald released her second album this week and the single from it fails to match the success of debut Mr Rock & Roll and This Is The Life. Morning Sun becomes Robbie Williams first ever single to miss the top 40, however there is still hope as the track is the official Sports Relief single. Agnes goes On and On but misses the top 40 and Norah Jones is Stuck outside the top 40 once again. Boyzone - Brother tops the album chart This week there was a 3 way battle for the #1 album, emerging victorious are Irish boyband Boyzone whose tribute to the late Stephen Gately entitled Brother enters in at #1. Just behind at #2 is the third album from virtual cartoon group Gorillaz, containing new single Stylo and following up #3 debut and #1 Demon Days. Scottish singer songwriter Amy MacDonald enters at #4 with second album A Curious thing which follows up her chart topping debut This Is The Life. Entering at #10 is Andrew Lloyd Webber's soundtrack to his new musical Love Never Dies. The ever popular Simply Red climb up to #12 with their compilation of love songs, being sold exclusively by Tesco. Lemar also enters inside the top 20 with his album entitled Hits which as its name suggests is a hits compilation containing all the hits from Dance With You and If There's Any Justice right up to the Way Love Goes. Personal opinion of me! I still hate that Tinie Tempah rubbish that's still at #1 but also hate Justin Bieber's new one even if it is better than his last One Time. However I am pleasantly surprised to see Gabriella Cilmi get another top 10 hit with the brilliantly catchy new song On A Mission. I also quite like My Name from McLean, also Telephone is growing on me a lot recently. I don't like I'm In The House by Steve Aoki at all, there again I'm no fan of that sort of music anyway. Don't care too much for Boyzone or Gorillaz, I'd much rather have seen the brilliant Amy Macdonald at #1 in the albums. Also gutted that Goldfrapp's great new song flopped.

  22. I'd like it to be Cheryl Cole but I do think it'll still be Tinie, Rihanna would be OK but to me Cheryl has the better song out of that lot.

We have another new #1 single from Tinie Tempah with Pass Out 21 year old London rapper Patrick Okogwu scores a number one hit as he debuts under his stage name of Tinie Tempah. Tinie first came to light with a YouTube video named Wifey which went on to become an underground hit. Now with his first proper single he hits the very top of the chart and says he’ll do it until he passes out, he’s not done yet as far as I know! Wiley feat Emile Sandi – Never Be Your Woman enters at #8 Now for another London born rapper but not a new comer, Richard Kylea Cowie scores another top 10 hit under the name of Wiley. This new single is essentially a cover of White Town’s 1997 #1 hit Your Woman, which was the work of one man working from his bedroom and had the subtitle Abort, Retry, Fail … once a common computer error message. This track marks Wiley’s second top 10 hit, he has had 5 top 40 hits as lead artist with the biggest being 2008 #2 hit Wearing My Rolex. Well it certainly is true that Wiley could never be your woman, same for original artist White Town … as both are blokes! Boyzone – Gave It All Away enters at #9 So the first of the big Irish boybands makes a return this week with new single Gave It All Away in at #9. October last year saw the very sad death of member Steven Gately, this track is said to be the last to feature his vocals and as such can be regarded as a tribute song. The band made their UK debut back in 1994 with their cover of Love Me For A Reason and up until their split in 1999, every one of their 16 UK releases made top 5 at least. Then the band reformed in 2008 and scored a further top 5 hit with Love You Anyway, however their cover of Better broke that run by only peaking at #22. Now Gave It All Away makes #9 as the lead track from their new album Brother, due out next week. Gramophonedzie – Why Don’t You enters at #12 This new entry is rather unique in several ways, firstly it is a first chart entry for a Serbian artist going under the name of Gramophonedzie. The song takes a sample of a 1936 US blues and jazz influenced piece of music called Why Don’t You Do Right, first recorded by Lil Green in 1941. Now Serbian producer and DJ Marko Milicevic has given it the house treatment and shortened the name to Why Don’t You. He scores a top 20 hit in the process with the track, entering as it does at #12 this week. Daisy Dares You feat Chipmunk – Number One Enemy enters at #13 Just a place below at #13 comes a new entry from hotly tipped and strangely named female singer Daisy Dares You with Number One Enemy. This track features rapper Chipmunk who has had 3 top 10 hits so far, all with female singers (some uncredited), now a female singer features him. Debut single Number One Enemy is taken from Daisy’s forthcoming debut album which is tipped to do well later on this year. Ke$ha feat 3 Oh 3 – Blah Blah Blah climbs back up to #17 US pop singer Kesha Rose Sebert has fully released her single Blah Blah Blah (featuring hip hop group 3 Oh 3) this week and as such goes back up to #17. The track first entered at #11 immediately following release of the album Animal and then began dropping sharply after reclimbing slightly last week and now returning to the top 20. This of course follows up from top 5 hit Tik Tok which is till in the top 40 this week. Well ... Blah Blah Blah is all I will say to that! Black Eyed Peas – Rock That Body enters at #23 US hip hop collective Black Eyed Peas were one of 2 acts to score 3 #1 hit singles last year alone (the other being a certain Lady Gaga). Boom Boom Pow was first as their comeback single, I Gotta Feeling was next and that track went on to have an incredible 34 week run inside the top 40, most recently was Meet Me Halfway which also did very well. Now the forth single to be taken from The END album enters at #23. Time will tell if Rock That Body can go on to repeat previous success, #1 is doubtful as the album has sold over 1 million and this is the forth single. Mary J Blige – I Am enters at #34 US singer songwriter and sometimes actress Mary J Blige scores another UK top 40 hit this week as she enters at #34 with new single I Am. Blige released her first single back in 1992 You Remind Me and had a string of minor hits until 1997 when she had her commercial breakthrough in the UK. That was with top 10 single Everything followed then by 2 further top 10 hits in 2001/2 with Family Affair and No More Drama. Since then the hits have been sporadic although she did peak at #2 with her cover of U2’s One alongside the band themselves. Now she makes her comeback with new single I Am from her latest album Stronger With Each Tear. To date she has had 27 top 40 hits and 5 top 10’s in this country. Mumford & Sons – The Cave enters at #37 Indie folk band Mumford & Sons get their second top 40 hit this week with The Cave, the third to be taken from their debut album Sigh No More. Well I don’t think they’ll be sighing in their cave any more as the album has repeaked at #7 and this new single improves on their last single Winter Winds which only peaked at #44, Little Lion Man peaked at #24 last year as their debut. Glee Cast – Defying Gravity enters at #38 Glee Cast get yet another top 40 hit this week, their sixth in total with lots more top 100 entries and showing no signs of drying up any time soon. Defying Gravity was originally the main song from the musical Wicked, as originally recorded and performed by Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. The track had never charted in the UK until last May when the song was used in TV show I’d Do Anything and made a brief appearance at #60. Now the track charts at #38 after being given the Glee treatment in last week's episode. You can bet your bottom dollor (or pound) that there'll be several more Glee hits to come over the next lot of weeks. This week’s Flop of the Pops! Amongst those missing out his week is Ash again with the latest in their 2 weekly single releases Song Of Your Desire. Ex Mavericks frontman Raul Malo released Midnight Kiss but fails to hit as a solo artist. Indie band The Automatic have somewhat struggled to get another hit after Monster was a top 5 hit for them. Avril Lavigne’s track Alice from the Alice In Wonderland soundtrack doesn’t get off to a good start, missing the top 40 as it does. Same for female singer songwriter Nerina Palot who hasn't gone to war and alternative band Eels whose soul isn't in Susan's house and they don't have the blues! Ellie Goulding Lights up the top of the album charts! Hotly tipped BBC Sound poll winner and Brit Award winner Ellie Goulding hits playdirt as her debut album enters straight in at #1, Lights features current top 5 hit Starry Eyed and previous limited release Under The Sheets. Jason Derulo debuts at #8 with his self titled debut album, hot on the heals of #3 single Whatcha Say and last week’s #1 In My Head. Very outgoing and flamboyant actor / entertainer John Barrowman gets a new entry at #11 with his self titled album offering. Former Texas lead singer Sharleen Spiteri enters at #13 with her second solo album entitled Movie songbook, which as the name suggests is a collection of covers from movie soundtracks. Also entering are Simply Red with their Tesco exclusive love songs collection, Alphabeat, Carly Simon and another Matt Monro compilation. Next week’s big releases Potential big hits next week could come from the likes of Justin Bieber, Goldfrapp, Gabriella Cilmi, Amy Macdonald, Steve Aoki, David Guetta, Agnes and Glee Cast again. Whilst albums are due from Amy MacDonald, Boyzone, Gorillaz, Joan Armatrading and Andrew Lloyd Webber … so it really could be anyone’s (my money's on Boyzone). Personal opinion I don’t like that Tinie Tempah rubbish at the top at all, I would much rather have seen Jason Derulo stay for a second week or Rihanna get there with Rude Boy as they are decent tunes. Still at least it is not that rubbish from Wiley which to me completely ruins the White Town song Your Woman which I really liked back in the day. Boyzone’s new single is not great but there again the only one of theirs I have really liked is No Matter What. The jury’s out on Why Don’t You by Gramophonedzie, it certainly is unusual but not sure if I like it. I do like the Daisy Dares You song but think that Chipmunk slightly ruins it with his few lines near the end. Rock Your Body is ok I guess but not a patch on the last 2 BEP songs, Mary J’s newbie is ok too but not a patch on her previous work either. I really like The Cave and have really liked the 3 singles so far from Mumford and his sons. The less said about the Glee rubbish the better I think, one word … tripe! I really love Ellie Goulding’s album and am glad to see it top the albums listings, and the less said about that John Barrowman drivel the better too!
