007 Chart Commentary
Chipmunk - Oopsy Daisy enters at the top to give us a new #1 single UK grime artist, rapper and small rodent Chipmunk scores his very first number one single with the rather oddly titled Oopsy Daisy. This is his 4th single release in the UK, and follows the trend of each single doing better than the one before - Beast did not chart when released in 2008, then Chip Diddy Chip made #21 and Diamond Rings made #6. All of his singles to date can also be found on debut album I Am Chipmunk, due out tomorrow. Saturdays - Forever Is Over enters at #2 For those waiting a long time for the Saturdays new single ... now Forever Is Over! Saturdays are of course a 5 piece girl group formed in 2008 and scored 4 consecutive top 10 hits, each doing better - If This Is Love (#8), Up (#5), Issues (#4) and Just Can't Get Enough (#2). Then the 5th single Work didn't really work as it could only make #22, due partly to the Michael Jackson entries and being the 5th single from a big selling album. Now in short order they release the first single from album #2 Forever Is Over which debuts at #2. This bodes well for the album and future singles. Daughtry - What About now leaps up to #11 US rock act Daughtry entered the UK top 40 for the very first time with What About Now last week, thanks to X-Factor use. Due again to this, good airplay and the announcement of a forthcoming Westlife cover of the song, it surges up to #11. Whitney Houston - Million Dollar Bill enters at #12 And now for the much heralded return of US singer/actress Whitney Elizabeth Houston to the UK charts. Whitney first came on the scene in 1985 and has had a total of 15 top 10 hits, including the 4 #1s Saving All My Love For You (1985), I Wanna Dance With Somebody (1987), One Moment In Time (1988) and of course the million selling I Will Always Love You (1992) which spent 10 weeks at the summit. She was last seen in the UK charts some 7 years ago with the #13 hit Whatchulookinat, after which she had personal problems with drugs and ex-husband Bobby Brown. Putting all of that beind her, Whitney enters the top 20 with new single Million Dollar Bill, making this her 26th top 20 hit. Folowing an X-Factor appearence and the release of new album I Look To You, I expect this to hang around for a bit. The song also samples We're Getting Stronger by Loleatta Holloway. Tinchy Stryder - You're Not Alone climbs to #14 and Jordin Sparks - SOS rises to #15 Tinchy Stryder scores a 4th top 20 hit this week as his cover of You're Not Alone rises 18 places to #14. Jordin Sparks also rises to #15 with her SOS (Let The Music Play). Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man enters at #24 London folk band Mumford & Sons consist of Marcus Mumford and surprisingly enough his sons! They get their very first top 40 hit this week, having supported Laura Marling on tour in the past and more recently the Maccabees. Following 3 limited EP releases, debut single Little Lion Man was released several weeks ago and now debuts at #24. This can also be found on their new album Sigh No More ... don't think they'll be sighing now! More X-Factor releated re-entries from Jason Mraz, Daniel Merriweather and Lady Gaga There are 3 re-entries to this week's top 40 and all of them follow use or performances on the X-Factor. There are certain singles that just won't go away for one reason or another, a typical example is Jason Mraz I'm Yours which was released all of 46 weeks ago and now re-enters at #30. This single has overshadowed 2 further singles Make It Mine and Lucky which did not chart at all. Daniel Merriweather is essentially in the same category as Red re-enters at #35 this week, with follow up Impossible having flopped and The Water & The Flame likely to do the same. Lady Gaga once again is being chased by the Paparazzi, appearing back at #37 this week. Floptastic songs of the week! Big Pink released their 5th single Dominos a few week's back and almost made the top 40 this week but have fallen short. Medina just misses out with her new single You & I, however it is due an official release tomorrow so could make the top 40 yet. Empire Of The Sun's re-release of Walking On A Dream has failed to match the success of We Are The People. Elliot Minor find themselves with a minor hit as The Electric High isn't high enough! Barbra Streisand climbs to #1 in the albums chart In a rather quiet week for major album releases, veteran Barbra Streisand rises to claim what is only her 2nd #1 album with Love Is The Answer, following an appearence on Johnathan Ross. With climbers from Cliff Richard #4 and Vera Lynn #5, the top 5 has a distinctly "Golden Oldie" feel to it (Paramore aside). Inkeeping with the trend, 1980's legend Chris Rea gets the highest new entry in at #8 with his best of Still So Far To Go. Another veteran to be entering with a retrospective is Andy Williams entitled Moon River, following a performance on Jools Holland. Mumford & Sons, Deadmau5 and Tiesto also make their debuts inside the top 20 this week. Next week's chart battle! Next week will see a full scale chart battle as Robbie Williams releases his new single Bodies, along with Alexandra Burke with Bad Boys (both performing on X-Factor). Michael Buble, Lost Prophets, Mr Hudson, Editors and Eva Simons are also due new releases. New albums are due out from Editors, Saturdays, Taio Cruz, Flaming Lips, Shakira, Chipmunk, Veronicas and many others ... so #1 album could be anyone's really! Personal opinion of Mr Bond! Despite its rather Frank Spencer like title, I actually rather like the #1 song despite hating all of Chip's material to date ... maybe that's because the song is sung mainly by another female singer! The Saturdays new song is rather average in my opinion, nowhere near as good as the great pop songs Up and Issues from their first album ... maybe there is better to come. When I first heard Whitney's comeback single Million Dollar Bill, I really didn't know what to think but now I quite like it, even if it is nowhere near as good as her previous ballad material ... same can said for Mariah though. I love Little Lion Man by Mumford & Sons as it is something a bit different, as is Big Pink with Dominos which sadly fell short.

007 Chart Commentary
Taio Cruz remains at #1 with Break Your Heart In a closed top 4, Taio Cruz is at #1 for a third week with his hit single Break Your Heart. This is now the first single to stay for a third week at the top since Tinchy Stryder/N-Dubz 21 weeks ago. After a surge up to #3 last week, Jay Z & Alicia Keys rise to #2 with Empire State of Mind. David Guetta & Akon swap with them by slipping a place to #3 with Sexy Bitch/Chick and Shakira’s howling wolf holds strong at #4. Temper Trap #7, Pitbull #9 and Dizzee Rascal (Dirtee Cash) #10 climb into the top 10 There are no actual new entries in the top 10, there are 3 climbers though. Dizzee Rascal has returned from Holiday but he has some Ditree Cash at #10. Pitbull requests Hotel Room Service and gets a climb to #9 with his second top 10 hit. Temper Trap climb into the top 10 with slow burner Sweet Disposition. Deadmau5 feat Rob Swire – Ghosts n Stuff enters at #12 Dance producer Deadmau5 gets his 2nd top 20 hit this week by creeping up on us with the full release of Ghosts n Stuff. This beats the peak of I Remember (with Kaskade), which reached #14 earlier in the year. Paloma Faith – New York climbs back up to #15 New York is the 2nd single from singer songwriter Paloma Faith and this week reaches a new peak of #15, beating debut hit Stone Cold Sober. This can be attributed to a series of live performances and also the release of her debut album this week. Veronicas – 4ever enters at #17 Australian twins the Veronicas also get their second top 20 hit this week, just ahead of the release of their debut album. 4ever sounds a bit like Kelly Clarkson or Avril Lavigne, still different from #8 debut hit Untouched. The twins’ Album Hook Me Up is due out shortly and should do well. Jordin Sparks – SOS climbs to #18 An act scoring a third top 20 hit of the year this week is American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. SOS (Let The Music Play) is now her 4th top 20 hit out of 5 releases, only No Air has made the top 10 so far. La Roux – I’m Not Your Toy enters at #27 Electro duo (not solo act) La Roux have been one of 2009's biggest acts. Last year they were in the Quicksand but as this was a limited release it didn’t chart. Next, they went In For The Kill and eventually peaked at #2 then they were Bulletproof with an instant #1 hit. Parent album La Roux debuted at #2 behind MJ’s Essential. Now they manage to toy with the top 30 as I’m Not Your Toy enters at a relatively low #27. Tinchy Stryder – You’re Not alone enters at #32 Tinchy Stryder first broke through with #3 hit Take Me Back, alongside Taio Cruz. Mr Stryder then teamed up with hip-hop collective N-Dubz for Number One, living up to that name by means of a 3 week residence at the top. He then teamed up with Sugababe Amelle for recent #1 Never Leave You. Tinchy now enters at #32 with a cover of You’re Not Alone, originally a #1 hit for dance act Olive in the 1990’s. Naturi Naughton – Fame enters at #33 24 year old actor and singer Naturi Naughton started out a part of pop group 3LW and later quit after alleged bullying from the other 2 girls. She then branched out into acting, appearing in the current remake of hit movie Fame. So the title song from the soundtrack enters at #33 this week, originally a #1 hit for Irene Cara in 1982. Daughtry – What About now enters at #39 Daughtry are a US rock group formed in 2006 by former American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry. The band have enjoyed great success in the US but never before had a UK hit of any size. This all changed earlier on this year when the track What About Now was used in Britain’s Got Talent, which saw it enter the top 100. Now following extensive use in this year’s X Factor, the track finally becomes a top 40 hit. This week’s “flop of the pops”! 1990’s boy band Backstreet Boys attempted a comeback this week with a RedOne produced single entitled Straight Through My Heart but missed out. Dance producer Tiesto released a single called I Will Be Here, obviously not the top 40 they refer to! The Enemy’s new single Be Somebody misses out, as does The Fray’s cover of Heartless and former Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews. Paramore knock Madonna off the top in the albums chart Well I never saw this coming, UK rock/punk act Paramore storm straight to #1 with their third studio album entitled Brand New Eyes. Newton Faulkner’s second album enters straight in at #3, in 2007 he was Hand Built By Robots now he has been Rebuilt By Humans … next then Redesigned By Computers? A full 46 years since her debut album, Barbra Streisand scores what is only her 7th top 10 album and she reckons Love Is The Answer. Former Stone Roses lead singer Ian Brown released his 6th studio album and gets his 5th top 10 album as My Way goes in at #8. There are also new entries from Basshunter’s second long player and debuts from Paloma Faith, Yeah Yous and Hockey. Next week’s contenders Taio Cruz’s reign at #1 will be in jeopardy next week as big new releases are due from Chipmunk, Saturdays, Whitney Houston and some others. Albums are due from the likes of Marillion, Andy Williams, Backstreet Boys and Mumford & Sons … will any of them surprise us and enter at #1? Personal opinion of 007 … and not necessarily the opinion of this forum! Whilst I am happy to see Taio Cruz get a decent run at #1, I would have liked to see a bit more action at the top of the charts. I am very happy that the Temper Trap have finally made top 10 and Paloma Faith’s New York finally becomes the hit it so deserves to be. I really like the new songs from the Veronicas and Jordin, they so deserve top 10. Thank goodness Naturi Naughton’s demolition job on Fame didn’t get high, terrible what she’s done to that classic! I am not happy at Paramore’s album knocking Madonna off. However I invested in no less than 4 new albums this week and love them all after first listen (rare for me) – Newton Faulkner, Paloma Faith, Ian Brown and Yeah Yous. I think they all deserved #1, particularly Ian Brown.

007 Chart Commentary
Taio Cruz remains at #1 with Break Your Heart UK R&B star Taio Cruz remains at #1 with Break Your Heart as he breaks the run of 8 different #1s in as many weeks. Aparently the track was originally intended for Cheryl Cole but her management didn't act quickly enough so Taio Cruz kept it for himself. Time will tell if Cheryl's solo career can take off successfully. Ringing up the rear once again is the still resurgent Sexy Bitch by David Guetta & Akon, now spending its 6th straight week in the top 3. Jay Z feat Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind climbs to #3 Jay Z now has 2 tracks inside the top 5 this week as next single Empire State Of Mind rises 12 places to hit #3, just 3 weeks after Run This Town topped the chart. This is a collaboration with Alicia Keys, who also returns wirh If I Ain't Got You (thanks to X Factor). Dizzee Rascal - Dirtee Cash enters at #11 A digital era trend which has become very prevailant recently is the cherry picking of album tracks, as can be seen from Jay Z's entries last week. This week it is the turn of Dizzee Rascal, who almost enters the top 10 with album track Dirtee Cash. The track is essentially a cover of Dirty Cash, originally a #2 hit in 1990 for Adventures Of Stevie V ... well money talks right enough! The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition climbs to #12 Australian "asmospheric" rock act the Temper Trap climb again with Sweet Disposition, which has become something of a sleeper hit after it was given away as a free single on iTunes. Basshunter - Every Morning enters at #17 Swedish producer, singer and songwriter Jonas Erik Altberg makes his return this week, better known as Basshunter. He had a huge #1 last year with his debut Now You're Gone and follow up top 20 hits All I Ever Wanted and Angel In The Night, all from his debut album Now You're Gone. Now he enters at #17 with Every Morning, the first track to be taken from forthcoming second album Bass Generation. Relative flop then! Lady Gaga - Love Game climbs to #19 This week Lady Gaga released her 4th single physically and only limps up to #19 as she plays a Love Game with a disco stick ... I say no more! Example - Watch The Sun Come Up enters at #20 London rapper Elliot Gleave has been around since 1987 in one shape or form, under the name of Extra E. Under the name of Example (taken from his initials EG), he now sets an example by entering at #20 with Watch The Sun Come Up. Kings Of Leon continue to dominate after a year Kings Of Leon have undoubtedly proven to be the nation's biggest selling rock act of recent years, having sold over 2 million of their album in the year since its release. Not only that but they have had 2 singles selling consistently in this period - Sex On Fire was #1 this time last year and made the top 10 again just a few weeks ago, this week it goes back up 2 to #16. Use Somebody entered the top 40 as an album track around the same time, peaking at #2 as the 2nd single. The track has hung around ever since, now it makes a reentry at #25 largely due to a performance on X Factor. Jade Ewen - My Man enters at #35 Jade Ewen first started as a West End performer then moved into music and subsequently winning the contest to perform this year's Eurovision song for the UK. Said song is It's My Time which was a #27 hit earlier on this year, now Jade scores a 2nd top 40 hit with My Man. Sugababes have once again changed their line up with the one remaining original member Keish Buchanan leaving, Jade has now been confirmed as her replacement in the group. Jordin Sparks - SOS (Let The Music Play) enters at #39 American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is back with the 2nd single from her 2nd album, SOS enters at #39 and contains samples from Shannon's 1980's hit Let The Music Play. This is Jordin's 5th top 40 hit now, and neatly follows up Battlefield which peaked at #11 on 3 different occasions this year. The almost hits for this week! Naturi Naughton has made a new version of the Irene Cara hit Fame (now 29 years old), taken from the new version of the hit film. Also missing out is German metal act Rammstein with their new single p*ssy. Kid Cudi's second single Make Her Say appears to lack the potential of debut hit Day & Night. VV Brown has again missed out as she declares Game Over, Aqua go Back To Hhe 80's but not back to the top 40! Newton Faulkner asks Is This It, I'm afraid so as his first single from 2nd album misses out. Madonna enters at #1 with her latest hits compilation album Celebration In a very busy album chart once again, Madonna celelbrates a #1 album with her latest compilation of hits. This knocks last week's #1 down to #2 Muse Dizzee Rascal's Tongue & Cheek enters at #3 this week, just a place ahead of Mika's second album The Boy Who Knew Too Much. Cliff Richard & The Shadows are Reunited and enter at #6 this week. Richard Hawley also has a new entry at #17 this week. Next week's potential hits New single releases are due out from the likes of Backstreet Boys, Natalie Imbruglia, La Roux and Veronicas on the singles front. Albums are due from Basshunter, Newton Faulkner, Paloma Faith, Aqua, Ian Brown, Paramore, Nolans and many more. Come back next week to find out where all of the above chart! Personal opinion of 007! I am happy to see Taio Cruz remain at #1, the song is fast becoming a favourite of mine. Still hate Jay Z and Dizzee Rascal ... what he's done to Dirty Cash is really terrible, but I'm just glad he's not #1 in the singles or albums! Basshunter's new one sounds just like Now You're Gone part 6, so I am happy to see it get nowhere near the top this time. However I absolutely love 95% of Madonna's output and am happy to see her top the album charts this week. I also love Mika's new album, not quite as good as his first but still rather good.

007 Chart Commentary
Taio Cruz scores his first UK #1 Single with Break Your Heart Much to the surprise of many, British R&B star Taio Cruz “break breaks your chart” for his very first UK #1 hit single. Mr Cruz (no relation to Tom or Penelope) was last seen alongside Tinchy Stryder on #3 hit Take Me Back at the beginning of 2009. Taio’s own previous hits include I Just Wanna Know, She’s Like A Star and top 5 hit Come On Girl. Holding firm at #2 is Sexy Bitch by David Guetta feat Akon, a record with staying power it seems. Madonna – Celebration enters at #3 Madonna Louise Ciccone has lots to celebrate this week as she scores her 65th top 20 hit with the first from her new hits compilation entitled Celebration. With each of her 11 studio albums to date, she has changed her style and reinvented herself very well. Celebration is a song very much in the style of Hung Up and Sorry from her Confessions On A Dancefloor era. Madge has now released 67 singles in the UK and all but 2 made top 20, 62 top 10 and 13 #1 hits … so I guess she has done OK really! Shakira – She Wolf climbs to #5 Another female superstar making an impact this week is Colombian Latin singer Shakira, as she rises 20 places to #5 after a full week of sales. Shakira has had 2 UK #1s which were both collaborations, with Wyclef (Hips Don’t Lie) and Beyonce (Beautiful Liar), She Wolf now becomes her 6th top 10 hit. Paramore – Ignorance enters at #14 American punk/rock band Paramore make their return this week with what is only their 2nd top 40 hit out of numerous relelases. Their only other sizeable hit was 2007’s Misery Business which peaked at #17, Ignorance beats that by 3 places as the first single from their forthcoming 3rd album. Jay Z has 2 new entries from his latest album – Empire State Of Mind and Young Forever American rapper Jay Z hit #1 just 2 weeks ago with his single Run This Town and this week releases his Blueprint III album. As often occurs in the download era, several of these tracks have been cherry-picked. This has resulted in 2 new tracks entering the top 40 – Young Forever feat Mr Hudson in at #35 and most incredibly of all Empire State Of Mind feat Alicia Keys in at #15 and could climb even further next week, same as Sexy Bitch did. Paloma Faith – New York enters at #21 Paloma Faith gets herself a 2nd top 30 hit as her 2nd release New York enters at #21, following #17 hit Stone Cold Sober. Paolma has a style very similar to Duffy and Amy Winehouse and appears to be enjoying moderate success, debut album due out shortly. Pitbull - Hotel Room Service climbs into the top 30 at #29 Pitbull gets a 2nd top 40 hit this week (3rd if you include the Livvi Franc track which charted at #40 last week) as he asks for Hotel Room Service, the song samples Nightcrawlers hit Push The Feeling On and references several rap songs in the lyrics. This was released in June but only now has started to become a sizeable hit, expct another climb next week then. Taylor Swift – You Belong With Me climbs into the top 30 at #30 Taylor Swift now gets a 2nd top 40 hit as You Belong with Me finally rises into the top 40 at #30 after several weeks hovering inside the top 75. This can probably be attributed to her appearance at the VMA awards and subsequent interruption from Kanye West. Cliff Richard & Shadows – Singing The Blues enters at a low #40 So chart veteran Cliff Richard launches his latest attempt at getting that all important #1 in the 00s, meaning he has #1s in every decade. Cliff has now reformed with his former backing group The Shadows to record a cover of Singing The Blues. The song was originally sung by Guy Mitchell and topped the UK chart in 1957, only to be replaced by a Tommy Steel cover version and then regain the #1. Anyway, Cliff’s version can only make #40 this week so he’ll need to try again to get that elusive 21st century #1 … there’s always Christmas eh! This week’s near misses Keri Hilson lacks the Energy to make the top 40 this week, narrowly missing out. New comers Hockey released their latest single Song Away this week and the song is away from the top 40. Florence & The Machine miss out with Drumming Song, more of an albums act I’d say. Yeah Yous second single Getting Up With You misses out also. Muse top the album charts with ease Muse have topped the album charts this week with huge sales of The Resistance, their 3rd #1 album out of 5 releases. Also making a big impact this week is Jay Z’s album Blueprint III entering at #x, 1 behind Peter Andre’s Revelation album. British singer songwriter David Gray enters at #5 with his new album Draw The Line. David Gray is incidentally the name of a poet, a Scottish footballer, rugby player and a snooker player … I’ll draw the line at that! Pixie Lott has 2 #1 singles under her belt and now hits #6 with her debut album Turn It Up, this can be attributed to Boys & Girls dropping 1-6 in the singles. Next week’s big new releases We see new physical releases from Shakira, Basshunter, Lady Gaga, Jade Ewen, Example and Ian Brown, as well as the Jay Z and Alicia Keys collaboration to challenge for next week’s #1 single. Looking to topple Muse from the #1 album slot are new ones from Mika, Dizzee Rascal, Madonna, Pearl Jam, Cliff, Kid Cudi and Madness. Personal opinion of 007! Whilst I have never liked any of Taio Cruz’s output to date, I do rather like Break Your Heart and think it is a worthy chart topper. As for Madonna, Celebration is for me a return to form following the disappointment of her singles from Hard Candy. Unusual as it is, I do rather like Shakira’s single She Wolf as well. Paloma Faith’s New York is rather good also, in a Duffy/Amy sort of way. I too am happy to see Taylor Swift get another hit in this country, even if it is just to spite the horrible Kanye West! I also like the new albums from Pixie Lott and David Gray. Gee I’m being very kind about this week’s chart for a change, suffice it to say that I hate all the Jay Z tracks and Pitbull's is worse than his last!

007 Chart Commentary
Pixie Lott storms to #1 with her Boys & Girls Not only does Pixie Lott become the next act to achieve 2 #1 singles in 2009, she also breaks the record for the bggest climb to #1 within the top 75. Pixie's second single Boys & Girls was released last Friday to enter at #73, now climbs to #1 with a full week's sales. This of course follows Mama Do with debut album due tomorrow, which will probably sell a Lott! Hot on her tail this week is Sexy Bitch by David Guetta/Akon moving back up to #2, Jay Z & co no longer run the charts as Run This Town drops to #3. Mika - We Are Golden enters at #4 Second highest new entry this week comes from Mika as he thinks We Are Golden, his comeback single storms in at #4. The song sounds just as bubbly and cheery as ever verging on the camp side at times. He may not have made #1 this time but is probably just as popular as 2 years ago, in 2006 he had 4 top 10 hits (including chart topper Grace Kelly) and a further top 20 from his debut album which also sold by the bucket load. Mini Viva - Left My Heart In Tokyo enters at #7 Also making a big entry this week is another new girl group, as Mini Viva leave their heart in Tokyo ... not San Fransisco. Left My Heart In Tokyo sounds like something Girls Aloud could do, probably due to Xenomania producing this song (as with several GA songs). Muse - Uprising enters at #9 As expected the big comeback single from Muse makes an Uprising straight into the top 10 this week, sounding as epic as ever. This is now the band's 12th top 20 hit since their debut back in 1999, however they didn't start to score big hits until 2001's Plug In Baby. Their albums have always done very well, so I would fully expect Muse to have next week's #1 album. Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition climbs to #15 One of these slow burning records has undoubtedly been Sweet Disposition by hotly tipped Temper Trap, the latest rise can perhaps be attributed to it's use on big Brother this week. It's rather slow start was likely due to it being a free iTunes single on its week of release. Shakira - She Wolf enters at #25 after early release Another track to be released early to see off a cover version is Shakira's comeback single She Wolf, in at #25 on just 3 days sales. Sounding as unusual and non-commercial as ever, she has to be a contender for next week's #1. It should at the very least become her 6th top 10 hit, she has had 2 #1s - 2006's humungous Hips Don't Lie (with Wyclef Jean) and 2007's Beautiful Liar (alongside Beyonce). U2 - I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight enters at #32 U2 rather surprisingly make the top 40 this week with their new single, the 3rd to be taken from their latest album No Line On The Horizon. It comes as a bit of a surprise as last single Magnificent could only make #42 and this single has not been doing well on the likes of iTunes. It does however follows a very popular 360o tour featuring the famous claw and the release of a remix package and CD single. This is their 45th single release since 1981 and only their 4th single to miss the top 20, quite an achievement I'd say. Livvi Franc - Now I'm That Bitch enters at #40 Livvi Franc (real name Olivia Charlotte Waithe) is the latest Barbadan singer songwriter and another to use the word Bitch in a song and have it censored to Chick. Now I'm That Bitch/Chick enters at #40 this week. This week's also-rans Missing out this week is the latest single from rockers You Me At Six, Kiss & Tell was top 40 in the mids but loses out to other new entries. 80's girl group Bananarama made another comeback this week as Love Comes got released, it seems their time has come and gone. Metal act Pearl Jam also miss out with their single called The Fixer, as does Kelly Clarkson who is indeed Already Gone! David Gray also misses out as he becomes a Fugitive. Vera Lynn gets a shock #1 album, outselling the Beatles by some margin! We have something of a shocker at the top of the albums listings this week, yes Dame Vera Lynn has made it to the top as the older living female to do so at a ripe old age of 93. Just behind her is Jamie T's 2nd album Kings & Queens, coming off the back of 2 moderately successful but well known singles. On Wed 09/09/09 The Beatles remesters were finally released, propmting speculation that the digital release of their back catalogue would also happen. That was not the case, the biggest selling act of all time do have 4 of their albums re-enter inside the top 10 this week with the highest only at #5 Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road at #6. This is the biggest single artist invasion to happen since similar happened following the death of Michael Jackson a few month's ago. Next week's new releases due Next week will see another battle for the #1 single as big new releases are due from the likes of Madonna, Cliff Richard and Taoi Cruz as well as Shakira's early release. New albums are due from Muse, Pixie Lott and David Gray amongst others, Muse are most likely to top the charts but will they be as big sellers as expected? Personal opinion of 007! I am happy to see Pixie Lott achieve her 2nd straight #1 as I think she is a very good singer and have high hopes for heer album. However I do rather like Mika's new one and actually think it deserves #1 slightly more, I loved his first album and also have high hopes for the 2nd. I am very happy to see the lovely Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap become the hit is deserves to be. Whilst I am not a huge fan of Muse, I do like their new single Uprising, I quite like the Mini viva track too. I am gutted to see David Gray miss out on getting anohter hit, his fans have probably moved on. Whilst I am not a fan of Vera Lynn's music in the leat bit, it is very good to see her top the charts. However I am a huge Beatles fan and nothing would have Please Pleased Me more than to see them top the charts!

OK I wasn't counting Walk This Way but yeh it would have been their 7th #1 including this collaboration. Yeh I noticed the 2 points about Friendly Fires album just after I posted and meant to go in and correct. What would a commentary be without the odd mistake or 2 eh! Thanks for letting me know though!

Chers Mikey! Yeh it'll be an interesting one ... I think Sgt Pepper will end up #1 with Revolver or Abbey Road a close second. Florence, Kasabian and possibly Bat For Lashes should all benefit from their Mercury nominations too. I reckon Pixie will take the singles #1, just ahead of Mika's newby.

Jay Z feat Rihanna & Kanye West - Run This Town is this week's new #1 We have a new #1 single once again this week but not perhaps what many expected. Jay Z has had many hits in the past, both as lead artist and as a featured artist - biggest lead artist single being 1998's Hard Knock Life which reached #2. Amongst his collaborations are 2 of Beyonce's #1s Crazy In Love and Deja Vu and Rihanna's 10 week #1 Umbrella-ella-ella. Rihanna has had a total of 13 top 20 hits (inc TI's Live Your Life) with 2 #1s Umbrella and Take A Bow. Kanye West has had 13 top 30 hits of his own including #1 Stronger and #2 Gold Digger. Now the 3 artists collaborate to Run This Town and also run these charts, a combination like that was hardly likely to fail now was it? Sugababes - Get Sexy enters at #2 Many people fully expected Get Sexy to give Sugababes their 6th number one hit single, however in the end they settle for runner up position. If this goes no further (highly unlikely), this will be the first time a Sugababes single has peaked at #2. However this beats the #3 peak of last year's lead single Girls and bodes well for their 7th album. Get Sexy has more of a dancey feel than previous hits and contains an interpolation of Right Said Fred's tongue-in-cheek hit I'm Too Sexy. Dizzee falls to #4 and KoL surge back up the charts Dizzee Rascal's Holiday becomes the first single to drop from #1 out of the top 3 since Kelly Clarkson My Life Would Suck... did the same. Kings Of Leon make a triumphant and frankly surprising return to the upper reaches this week. Sex On Fire surges up to #6 on its 37th week inside the top 40, following its performance on the X Factor and the band's appearence at the Leeds & Reading festivals. Use Somebody is also back at #36 this week. Wale feat Lady Gaga - Chillin' enters at #12 US rapper Wale first featured on Daniel Merriweather's top 10 hit Change, and now gets his first hit of his own, as he is Chillin' his way into #12. This is not entirely on his own as a certain Lady Gaga sings alongside him, Gaga's own Love Game surprisingly drops to #31. Chillin' is one of several current singles to feature a sample from Steam's Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye. Booty Luv - Say It enters at #16 Go on Say It ... Dance act Booty Luv score their 5th top 20 hit, first from their forthcoming 2nd album which aparently is not to contain any covers. Jamie T - Chaka Demus EP enters at #23 This week Jamie T scores a second hit of the year with Chaka Demus, not to be confused with 90's act Chaka Demus & Pliers. Friendly Fires - Kiss Of Life enters at #30 Friendly Fires have previously released 4 singles in the UK and a highly acclaimed self titled album, none of which have troubled the top 40. Now their new single Kiss Of Life finally provides them with a top 30 single and should help revive the album (due a re-release shortly). Prodigy - Take Me To The Hospital enters at #38 The Prodigy get a new entrry at #38 this week with Take Me To The Hospital, also the name of their record label. Failure of this to progress any further will mean it is their lowest charting single, the first out of 18 full releases to miss the top 20. This week's also-rans Missing out this week is singer songwriter Remi Nicole who is Standing Tears Apart from the top 40. New girl group and X Factor rejects Dolly Rockers have flopped with Gold Digger (not a cover of the Kanye West track). Jonas Brothers invitation to Fly With Me misses out, as does Jason Mraz and olbie Cailat's Lucky ... unlucky in this instance it seems! Artics retain the #1 album, just above Vera Lynn! Bah! Humbug the Arctic Monkeys hold on to the number one album this week, which is not surprising. What is perhaps surprising is the climb to #2 experienced by Vera Lynn, who is the oldest singer to have a top 5 album at 92 year old. Kings Of Leon make a huge leap back up the chart with Only By The Night at #4, after only dropping out the top 20 last week after its release almost a year ago. Highest new entry is from Noah & The Whale in at #16 with their 2nd album First Days Of Spring (yes in September), proof again that a flop single does not always lead to a flop album. Next week's releeases Interesting singles and albums chart battles are likely to take place next week. New singles are due from Mika, Pixie Lott, Muse, Mini Viva and David Gray amongst others. The Beatles are due to release remastered versions of all their albums, along with Jamie T, Cilla Black and Sean Kingston amongst others. Personal opinion of 007! I have always hated Jay Z and all he stands for including his music, so that does not endear me to much to Run This Town, however it does feature Rihanna which is its only redeeming factor for me. I admit to quite liking some of the Sugababes previous songs (Push The Button and About You Now particularly), however I don't really like this Get Sexy. I hate the Wale record and don't care too much for the Jamie T or Prodigy's new ones either. On a more positive note, I am happy to see Friendly Fires get their first top 40 hit as I think they have a good unique sound.

007 Chart Commentary
I have been posting this on another forum for a few months now, so decided to post it on here too. Dizzee Rascal - Holiday tops the singles chart As expected we have a new #1 single this week from Dizzee Rascal (real name Dylan Kwabena Mills). Dizzee becomes the next artist to have 2 straight chart toppers this year - following David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga. New single Holiday follows on from last year's Dance Wiv Me and this year's Bonkers to enter straight in at #1 with big sales. Prior to this, he managed 4 top 20 hits with 2004's Stand Up Tall being the biggest. David Guetta/Akon's Sexy Bitch also joins the 1 week #1 club, falling to #2. Black Eyed Peas former #1 I Gottta Feeling also drops a place to #3. Biffy Clyro - That Golden Rule enters at #10 Making a splash in the top 10 at #10 this week is Biffy Clyro, well That Golden Rule must be to get themselves a top 10 hit. This is the first from their forthcoming 5th album Only Revolutions. Following last year's single Mountains which made #5, this is their 11th top 30 hit in total now. Lily Allen - 22 climbs to #14 Lily Allen scores her 6th top 20 hit as new single 22 rises 9 places to #14, following physical release. Only #21 hit Littlest Things from her first album has missed the top 20 so far. Nneka - Heartbeat enters at #23 Nneka is a Nigerian-German hip hop/soul singer and songwriter whose style has been compared to acts as diverse as Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def and Neneh Cherry. Nneka has had previously released 7 singles, one of which was Heartbeat which has been remixed by Chase & Status and thus enters at #23. Incidentally Heartbeat is also the title of a song by Buddy Holly, Annie, Steps, Scouting For Girls and Madonna, amongst others. TI feat Mary J Blige - Remember Me enters at #34 American rapper TI once again collaborates with a big name for his new single, this time Mary J Blige for Remember Me ... I do! Although not nearly as big as #2 hit Live Your Life (with Rihanna) or #4 hit Dead & Gone (with Justin Timberlake), it does outpeak his last single Whatever You Like. X-Factor related re-entries - KoL, Pixie Lott and Luther Vandross In case anyone didn't know it, X Factor is back on our screens and that can only mean one thing ... we get re-entries at the bottom end of the chart following performances by the contestants. Kings Of Leon's mega #1 hit Sex On Fire is back at #33 after spending 35 weeks in the top 40. Pixie Lott's Mama Do is back at #37, and the late Luther Vandross at #38 with his #21 hit from 2003 entitled Dance With My Father. This week's also-rans Missing out this week once again is Taylor Swift with her new single You Belong With Me, destined to be a 1 hit wonder it seems. Obsessed was scheduled to be Mariah Carey's comeback single, however that appears to have been cancelled but a remix version appeared this week and almost charted. London folk band Mumford & Sons also miss out with their first full release Little Lion Man. Arctic Monkeys - Humbug tops the albums chart As predicted Arctic Moneys storm in at #1 with their 3rd album Humbug, with a more toned down sound. Coming 2nd to them is French DJ/producer David Guetta with One Love, off the back of his 2 #1 singles this year. Neil Diamond enters at #14 with his live album Hot August Night NYC, ahead of Indie band Athlete's 4th album Black Swan in at #18. The "Forces Sweetheart" Vera Lynn enters at #20 with her compilation entitled We'll Meet Again. Next week's contenders Next week's biggest contender for #1 single has to be Sugababes with Get Sexy, whilst Wale, Booty Luv, Jamie T, Prodigy and Noisettes are also due to release their singles. Next week's most notable album release is probably Just Jack's with Pitbull, Sean Paul, Noah & The Whale and Nneka also. Personal opinion of 007! Whilst I am by no means a fan of Dizzee, I much prefer Holiday to the dreadful Bonkers or Dance Wiv Me ... that doesn't mean I like it or am happy to see it top the charts! I would have preferred Guetta to stay there or better still Little Boots to be at the top but ah well, at least she stays at #6. I'm not a huge fan of Biffy Clyro either but I do like their last single Mountains and That Golden Rule is quite good too. I don't like that Nneka song much, but it's gotta be better than TI who just keeps on getting worse to me. Remember Me is dire ... I will remember how bad this is! I am also pleased to see the late and great Luther Vandross re-enter with the underrated Dance With My Father. I am pleased to see the Arctics get their 3rd #1 album, Humbug is very understated compared to their first 2 and is a bit of a grower.

They also have the longest runner with Turn It Up, in its 14th week on my chart this week. This knocks Katy Perry and Script down a place, Oasis are up 1 place and Daniel Powter up to #5 with the very catchy Last Plane Home. Zutons make a flying leap up to #6, What's Your Problem is a great return to form for them but will undoubtedly flop in the UK chart. Same can be said for the highest new entry at #9 for Guillemots, the very epic sounding Kriss Kross is a re-entry after charting as an album track a few months ago. This is the bands third straight top 10 hit, following the #1s Get Over It and Falling Out Of Reach. Sugababes return at #10 with their new song Girls, nicely sampling Here Come The Girls. Upward movement comes from Pink, Coral, REM and Ladyhawke in the top 20, amongst others lower down. MGMT enter at #29 this week with Kids, nicely following Electric Feel (a top 10 hit) and the excellent Time To Pretend (#1 for 4 wks). Third entry of the year also for Black Kids, Nickelback and Kooks - may well be growers for me in the future weeks. Enjoy! :cheer:
