  1. Thanks Mart!n :D
  2. Undoubtedly my song of the year is Adele's James Bond theme Skyfall, probably my second favourite 007 theme song after the awesome Live & Let Die. This is followed by Payphone by the ever excellent Maroon 5, having gone down a more poppier route and all the better for it. Emeli Sande and her wondeful voice make up the rest of my top 5 with 3 tracks, one of those alongside Labrinth on the lovely Beneath Your Beautiful. The quirky We Are Young by Fun is in there, alongside Stooshe's only decent song so far Black Heart. Olly Murs continues to bring out very catchy and gfreat songs, Troublemaker is no exception. Candy is probably Robbie Williams best song since the Excapology era, hence its appearence here. Another quirky and very different song to come out was Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know, my #10 and the biggest seller of 2012 by some distance. 01 Adele - Skyfall 01-01-01-01-01-01-03-08-14-18-21-26-31-... 10. Yeh I was going by the fact it was climbing iTunes for most of last week, have a feeling it could continue going up this week. I do hope it fades away completely and that I'm wrong. :P
  11. Justice Collective - He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother enters at #1 So this year's Christmas number one is a charity single for the families of the Hillsborough victims, Justice Collective with their version of He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother. The song was originally recorded by Kelly Gordon in 1969 and became a #3 hit for the Hollies that same year, then Neil Diamond recorded a version the year after. Now the song has been covered by the Justice Collective, with members including Melanie C, Robbie Williams, Paul Heaton, Paloma Faith, Paul McCartney, Gerry Marsden, Kenny Dalglish and Alan Hansen. Earlier in the week, it was looking like X Factor winner James Arthur would stay at #1 this week but then the Justice Collective finished up with a big lead. This is the only new entry in this week's top 20, other movement includes a #12 peak in 2012 for Fairytale Of New York and climbs from Taylor Swift (3rd UK top 10 hit now) and Pitbull (new #13 peak for Don't Stop The Party). Alex Day - Stupid Stupid entrs at #25 23 year old singer songwriter and Internet sensation Alex Day gets his 3rd top 40 hit this week, whilst still not signed to a major record label. Last year, Alex launched a campaign to get his first single release Forever Yours to #1 for Christmas. With multiple versions being available and a mass marketing campaign,it sold over 50,000 copies to make #4 but dropped to #112 the following week. In April, he released a cover of Peter & Gordon's 1966 song Lady Godiva, that debuted at #15 and also tumbled in its second week. In May, he released 3 new tracks simultaneously which didn't chart in the UK - Good Morning Sunshine, She Walks Right Through Me and This Kiss. Now Alex Day can lay claim to a 3rd top 30 single as Stupid Stupid debuts at #25, disappearing next week most likely. Willy Moon - Yeah Yeah re-enters at #26 23 year old singer songwriter William Sinclair reenters with his track Yeah Yeah under the name of Willy Moon, at a new peak of #26. This is largely due to the use of the track in the current Apple television advertisements. The track was playlisted by radio at the beginning of the year but didn't make the top 40 until 6 weeks ago, when it came in at #34, it may climb in the coming weeks. £1 Fish Man - One Pound Fish enters at #29 Another track likely to climb significantly in the coming weeks is the latest YouTube driven novelty song by 23 year old Pakistani trader Muhammad Shahid Nazir. Going under the name of £1 Fish Man, his novelty rap track has been an online hit and now debuts in the top 40 at #29. The British based market trader composed the song One Pound Fish and entered the X Factor auditions this year with the track but did not get through. Never mind, he has a top 40 hit now! Emeli Sande - Our Version of events is the Christmas #1 album After dominating the charts for most of this year, the year's biggest selling album goes back to #1 this week. Our Version Of Events debuted at #1 upon release in February and has not left the top 10 since, in fact it is the year's only million selling album. Not much action elsewhere, with Olly Murs and Michael Buble remaining at #2 and #3 respectively whilst Bruno Mars drops 1-4 and Neil Diamond climbs 3 to #5. Alicia Keys drops out of the top 20 whilst Paloma Faith comes back in. Opinion Whilst I really like the original He Ain't Heavy, I don't really like the Justice Collective's cover but it is for charity so fair play for getting the xmas #1. I'm not keen on James Arthur's voice but I think his Impossible cover is ok, far better than that Scream & Shout mess from Will/Britney. Good to see Taylor Swift get top 10, even better the #12 peak for the best xmas song ever Fairytale Of New York. Whilst I liked Forever Yours and Lady Godiva, I'm not keen on Alex Day's Stupid Stupid ... it is kind of stupid really. Not as stupid as that £1 Fish Man rubbish or that horrible Niggas In Paris which is heading back up outside the top 40. I do rather like the Willy Moon track and also great to see Driving Home For Christmas back in.

  13. James Arthur - Impossible enters at #1 And so X-Factor is over for another year and they maintain their record of the winner's single going to #1, as James Arthur was crowned winner for 2012. The Middlesborough born 24 year old singer songwriter has the fastest selling X-Factor winner's single ever, having sold over 255k in the first 48 hours and total of 489k for the week. Those sales are more than double those of last year's winners Little Mix and exceeding those of all other winners except Alexandra Burke, Leona Lewis and Shane Ward. The song he has chosen to cover is Impossible, originally a #9 hit in 2010 for Barbadan singer Shontelle. As has happened in previous years, the original version of the track re-enters the chart, in at #23 this week. Will.I.Am feat Britney Spears - Scream & Shout enters at #2 Coming in at a distant second place is the new track from US rapper Will.I.Am featuring US singer and X Factor judge Britney Spears, entitled Scream & Shout. This is Will's third top 5 hit single of the year, following collaborations with Mick Jagger/Jennifer Lopez (#3 hit THE) and Eva Simons (#1 hit This Is Love). As well as scoring 16 top 20 hits as a Black Eyed Pea between 2003 and 2011, Mr I Am hit #4 in 2008 with the Cheryl Cole featuring Heartbreaker and #11 in 2010 with Nicki Minaj on Check It Out. In addition, he has featured on hits from the likes of Usher, Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger and The Script. So he's not done much then! Rihanna feat Mikky Ekko - Stay enters at #6 Now for another act who has had an extremely prolific singles chart history so far. Barbadan superstar singer Rihanna Fenty racks up an incredible 26th top 10 hit in just over 7 years, as new single Stay enters at #6. This is following the star's performance of this track and million seller #1 We Found Love on the X Factor final. Stay joins Rihanna's former chart topping single Diamonds in the top 10, which is one place below this week. Rihanna repeats the feat she has achieved several times in the last 2-3 years by scoring multiple consecutive top 10 hits this week. Stay features American singer songwriter Mikky Ekko, who has steadily built an online following over the last few years and has solo material due out next year. One Direction - Kiss You enters at #12 Another act who almost scored 2 successive top 10 hits this week is One Direction, and also performed on the final of the X Factor. The X-Factor created boy band debut at #12 this week with their new single Kiss You, the 3rd from their chart topping second album Take Me Home. This is following on from #3 hit Live While We're Young and #1 smash Little Things which is still in the top 10 this week. The group had 3 top 10 singles last year from their debut - #1 What Makes You Beautiful, #3 Gotta Be You and #9 One Thing, with 4th single More Than This missing the top 40. Daley feat Jessie J - Remember Me enters at #24 23 year old Machester based singer songwriter makes his top 40 debut as lead artist, as Remember Me comes in at #24 this week. Daley fist appeared on Gorillaz #37 hit Doncamatic in 2010, and has since supported the likes of Emeli Sande, Maverick Sabre, Jessie J and Bobby Womack on tour. This track features Jessie J, and is a 9th top 40 hit for her since her debut 2 years ago. The track samples dance hit Remember Me, a huge #8 hit for Scottish DJ Blueboy in 1997. Emeli Sande - Clown enters at #35 Emeli Sande rounds off an extremely successful and busy year with another top 40 hit single, following her performance of the track on the X Factor final. Emeli made her solo debut just over a year ago with #2 smash Heaven, followed by #21 Daddy. Then she hit #2 with the massive hit Next To Me, followed by #17 My Kind Of Love. Her solo version of Read All About It peaked at #4 after her Olympics performance, whilst not an official single. She hit #10 alongside Naughty Boy on Wonder whilst also debuting at #1 alongside Labrinth on the mega hit Beneath Your Beautiful, which has spend 1 week at #1, 2 weeks at #2, 4 weeks at #4, and is #8 this week (hmmm). Bruno Mars tops the album chart with Unorthodox Jukebox Bruno Mars goes stright to #1 with his second album Unorthodox Jukebox, becoming the year's fastest selling solo album of the year on sales of around 136k. Olly Murs and Michael Buble both slip a place to #2 and #3 respectively, and Emeli Sande rises to #4. Emeli's album looks to be the only one to sell a million this year, and completes a top 4 of albums selling over 100k this week. The only other new wntry in the top 40 comes from Green Day as the 3rd in their trilogy of album entitled !Tre! debuts at #31. Opinion Whilst I am not a fan of James Arthur's voice much, I do quite like his cover of Impossible and am actually glad to see it sell so well this week. I am a fan of some of Britney's work and some of Will's, however I really don't like Scream & Shut at all. Rihanna's new single Stay on the other hand is brilliant, Ms Fenty has been very hit and miss for me ubt I do like this and Diamonds. Not a fan of 1D, I do quite like Little Things but not so much the new single Kiss You. I quite like Daley and Jessie J's track, even if Jessie does have a habit of over singing. I think Emeli Sande's Clown is really brilliant and is a highlight of her wonderful album and very good sung live too. Bruno's album is pretty good as well, so good to see it starting off well at least.

  21. Gabrielle Aplin - The Power Of Love climbs to #1 We have a new number one single this week as 20 year old singer songwriter Gabrielle Aplin rises from #6 to #1 in her 4th week in the top 10. The Power Of Love now joins the list of songs to make #1 with multiple versions, including Unchained Melody (Righteous Bros, Robson & Jerome, Gareth Gates) and Spirit In The Sky (Norman, Doctor and Medics, Gareth Gates), amongst others. Frankie Goes To Hollywood of course took the original The Power Of Love to #1 in 1984 as their third chart topping single. The Power Of Love was also the title of Jennifer Rush's huge 1985 #1 hit, and also a very different #9 hit that same year for Huey Lewis & The News, as well as for Luther Vandross, Charley Pride and the Everley Brothers. This keeps Bruno Mars at #2 as he finds himself locked out of #1 again, Olly Murs is dumped to #3 because he is a trouble maker! Pink - Try rises to #8 33 year old US singer songwriter Alicia Moore gets herself a 17th UK top 10 hit as new single Try climbs 18 places to #8 after her performance of the track on the X Factor. This follows up #3 hit Blow Me (One More Kiss) as the second single from her current album The Truth About Love. Pink has released 27 singles in the UK from 6 studio albums and a hits compilation since her 2000 debut with There You Go, only 2 of those have missed the top 40. Pitbull feat TJR - Don't Stop The Party enters at #16 This week's highest new entry goes to US rapper Armando Cristian Perez - Pitbull, who debuts at #16 with his new single Don't Stop The Party. This is Pit's 5th UK top 20 hit since his 2009 with #4 hit I Know You Want Me, which was followed by #9 hit Hotel Room Service and a few other minor hits. In 2011, he teamed up with Neyo, Afrojack and Neyer for the massive #1 smash Give Me Everything. This was followed up with #28 single Rain Over Me with US country singer Marc Anthony, and #10 hit International Love alongside Chris Brown. Back In Time was Pitbull's last UK chart hit, making #21 earlier on this year. Now he teams up with singer TJR for #16 entry Don't Stop The Party, taken from the Planet Pit album. Tulisa - Sight Of You enters at #18 X Factor judge/mentor, former N-Dubz member and now solo singer Tulisa Constostavlos gets a 3rd solo top 20 hit with new single Sight Of You, in at #18. As a current X Factor judge, Tulisa took the chance to perform this new single, but can only make a modest #18 debut. This is following #1 Young and #11 follow up Live It Up. Tulisa of course features on 8 top 20 hits as part of N-Dubz between 2006 and 2011, the biggest of which is #1 hit Number One with Tinchy Stryder. It is rumoured that N-Dubz will be getting back together next year. BURNS - Lies enters at #39 Dance producer, remixer and singer BURNS makes his UK top 40 debut this week at #39 with the single Lies. BURNS (not Robert) has previously produced hits for the likes of Calvin Harris, Mariah Carey and Marina & The Diamonds. This track has been remixed by Otto Knows, who scored a top 20 hits with the dance track Million Voices earlier this year. Olly Murs album stays at #1 Olly Murs may be a trouble maker but he is still in the right place at the right time, as his album stays at #1 for a second week. Michael Buble's Christmas moves up to #2, One Direction slip a place to #3, Rod Stewart's festive offering climbs 1 to #4 and Neil Diamond's Very Best Of climbs 3 places to #5. Pink, Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran, Paloma Faith and Fun are back up to the top 20. The highest new entry can be found outside the top 20, at #21 for Jools Holland and his Rythm & Blues Orchestra with The Golden Age Of Song. Tulisa's debut album has flopped as The Female Boss can only manage #35, Ke$ha's second album Warrior however misses the top 40 completely. Personal Opinon I am happy to see Gabrielle Aplin's gorgeous version of The Power Of Love go to #1, although I'd have preferred to see Olly Murs manage a 3rd week at #1 or even Bruno to get a 4th #1. Great to see Pink get a deserved top 10 with the fantastic Try. Good as well to see all the xmas classics back in the charts, even if it is the same ones each year, they're still very good. Pitbul's new song is atrocious, as is Tulisa's who was rubbish on the X Factor. Not really a fan of that BURNS song, just run of the mill dance to me.
  22. Thanks Colin, that's really interesting about the chart doubles. :)
  23. Thanks, for some reason I awlays think that Olly's debut album made #1 but it did not. 2006 was a typo, the 9 must've gone upside down!
