iTunes Weekly Thread: W/C 29th July 2012
I hope Train's 50 Ways stays top 40 this time, but I just know it's going to get pushed down over the weekend. I agree that Rudimental need to go away now, I don't really like the track either. Mind you I don't like Heatwave either and it's looking at 2 weeks #1. <_<

New OA/OS Survey
I'd say releasing on the first Sunday after first radio play, it would give it a full week of sales and allow radio playlists to change, as others have said. An interesting footnote on Radio 2's playlist - "Before any track can be considered it must be commercially available or be within 3 weeks of commercial availability". Perhaps if other radio stations even had this rule in place, it could help.

007 Chart Commentary - 8th July 2012
Maroon 5 return to #1 with Payphone Maroon 5 return to the top of the singles chart this week, after aparently running out of change last week and having to redial the call from that payphone! This means that Payphone is the first single to return to #1 since Gotye did the same 19 weeks ago after 1 week previously on top. Payphone is also the first single in 9 weeks to get a second week at the top. Like this week, there are few new releases of note next week so Payphone may be in for a 3rd week at #1 for Maroon 5. Blur - Under The Westway enters at #34 This week's highest new entry comes in way down at #34, as there have been very few new releases of note this week. At one point in the week, it was looking like there would be no new entries at all. However Blur made their return this week as they released their new single Under The Westway in the middle of the week. Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowantree formed Blur in 1989 and released their debut single She's So High the following year, however it did not chart so high - #48! However #8 hit There's No Other Way put them well and truly on course in 1991, this was followed by several minor top 30 hits. From 1994 they had a string of 18 consecutive top 20 hits, including the 2 #1s Country House and Beetlebum as well as classics such as Girls & Boys, Parklife, Tender and Song 2. The band then split in 2005, before getting back together in 2009 for a series of live concerts. Now they release their first new material in 9 years, charting at #34 with Under The Westway. Dappy - I'm Coming (Tarzan Part 2) The only other new entry this week comes from 25 year old rapper Costadinos Contostavlos, known professionally as Dappy. Dappy is best known for being a third of hip hop group N-Dubz, and also for causing controversy with his public comments about various celebrities. This track is essentially a free style rap and not a proper single, however debuts at #35. His solo singles were #5 single from 2011 Spaceship, #1 hit also from last year No Regrets and #2 collaboration with Brian May from earlier this year Rockstar. Chris Brown tops the album charts Chris Brown scores his first #1 album with Fortune this week, as Maroon 5 hold at #2 and Linkin Park slide to #3. The only other action of note is a return to #6 for Paul Simon's Graceland following a TV documentary, and a return to the top 20 for Train's California 37 and Stone Roses Very Best Of. Country singer Mary Chapin Carpenter is the only other new entry to this week's top 40 albums.

Black Holes & Revelations followed in 2006, featuring the band's highest peaking single to date Supermassive Black Hole which made #4. #13 hit Starlight and #10 Knights Of Cydonia are also on this. The Resistance then came in 2009, with #9 hit Uprising and other smaller hits. Last year saw them hit #11 with Neutron Star Collision, taken from the Twilight Saga sound track. Now they debut at #25 with the first single from their forthcoming 6th album The 2nd Law, entitled Survival and also acting as the official 2012 Olympics theme. Nicki Minaj - Pound The Alarm enters at #34 Trinidad born US rapper Nicki Minaj gets another top 40 hit this week as Pound The Alarm debuts at #34, following her huge #2 smash Starships which goes back up to #19. Nicki stared off with 2 #71 singles Your Love and Right Thru Me, then hit #11 alongside the aforementioned Will.i.am on Check It Out. She then made #22 and #24 with singles Moment 4 Life and Girls Fall Like Dominoes respectively. Then came the #8 smash Super Bass, followed by #16 collaboration with Rihanna entitled Fly. All of her previous singles except Starships are from her debut album Pink Friday, it and Pound The Alarm come from her second album (a different one) Pink Friday : Roman Reloaded. Jay Z & Kanye West - No Church In The Wild enters at #37 Following the performance of Jay Z and Kanye West together at Radio 1's Hackney weekend, the pair find themselves back in the top 40 with not one but two of their songs. Their new single No Church In The Wild features Frank Ocean and debuts at #37, after spending several weeks outside of the top 40. Thier last single Niggas In Paris made #10 earlier on this year and is back #18 this week. Linkin Park have the #1 album with Living Things There was a close battle for the #1 album again this week, with rock band Linkin Park coming out on top with their 5th album Living Things and their 3rd to go to #1. Maroon 5 come second with 4th album Overexposed, improving on their last album Hands All Over's #6 peak but not matching the #1 peak of the first 2. Hackney Weekend performers Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, Jay Z/Kanye West and Ben Howard all see upwards movement this week. US rapper Flo Rida debuts at #xx with 4th album Wild Ones, whilst other new comers include Ginger Wildheart, Glenn frey, Jedward and Netsky. Opinion Whilst I am no fan of Will.i.am or the Black Eyed Peas, I do quite like This Is Love and so am not complaining about it being #1 this week. Maroon 5's Payphone is fantastic and I would've prefered it at #1, however their equally fantastic album is #2. At least that awful Chris Brown song is not #1, nor that average Taio Cruz one either. I do like Muse's new song and have quite liked some of their past output, this one may not be their best but it is not their worst either. Jay Z & Kanye West's vile Niggas In Paris is back, No Church In The Wild is an improvement on that but it's still diabolical to me.

007 Chart Commentary - 24th June 2012
Maroon 5 - Payphone enters at #1 US pop group Maroon 5 score their very first UK #1 single this week as Payphone is finally released and looks likely to sell over 100k in the process. The band first formed in 1995 as Kara's Flowers but renamed themselves to Marron 5 in 2002. They hit #13 with Harder to Breathe before scoring a massive #3 hit in 2003 with This Love. This was followed by #4 hit She Will Be Loved, minor hits Sunday Morning and Must Get Out. Then in 207, they hit #2 with Makes Me Wonder, which was followed by several smaller hits. In 2010 they could only limp in at #30 with Misery, the only single from their 3rd album to chart in the UK. All changed last year when they teamed up with Christina Aguilera for the million selling Moves Like Jagger, which stayed at #2 behind 6 different #1s last year. Now they are at a payphone which seems to have helped get them a UK #1, perhaps they should buy a mobile phone for the next time they spend all their change! Stooshe - Black Heart enters at #4 Consisting of Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson and Courtney Rumbold, 3 piece London based girl group Stooshe score their 2nd top 5 hit this week as Black Heart debuts at #4. The group were signed last year and released a limited edition single Betty Woz Here, before Love Me hit #5 earlier this year. It seems that many people do indeed love them as they have enough support to beat their debut by 1 place with Black Heart. Their forthcoming album was to be entitled Swings & Roundabouts, however they have obviously left the playground and opted for self titled Stooshe for the title instead! Katy Perry - Wide Awake climbs to #12 Katy Perry continues her rise up the charts as she reaches a new peak of #12 and she indeed is Wide Awake! This is now her 12th top 20 hit in total since her 2008 debut, including 3 from One Of The Boys and 2 collaborations. Incredibly it is her 7th straight top 20 hit single from her Teenage Dream album, albeit 2 from a repackaged version. Another track to reach a new peak is Avicii's Silhouettes at #22, reaching #26 first time around before dropping out and reappearing at #26 last week. Re-entries for Justin Bieber, Florence & The Machine, Azealia Banks and David Guetta There are several tracks rebounding back into the top 40 this week. Justin Bieber's #2 hit Boyfriend is back at #31 following his album release, Florence & The Machine's #12 hit shakes its way back to #40 after a price reduction. Azealia Banks' 212 and David Guetta/Sia's mega #1 hit Titanium are back at #37 and #39 respectively. It looks like the next 3 or 4 weeks may also see several reentries, as there are few notable new releases in the near future. Justin beats Cheryl to the #1 album Canadian teen star Justin Bieber enters at #1 with his 3rd album Believe this week, containing #2 hit Boyfriend and his 3 promotional singles. Justin is confortably ahead of Cheryl Cole (or simply Cheryl) with her 3rd album A Million Lights at #2, containing last week's #1 single Call My Name. Paloma Faith and Emeli Sande both make upward movement in the top 5, ahead of last week's #1 from Gary Barlow & co which plummets 1-6 after 3 weeks. Other new albums to enter this week include guitarist Slash, US country star Carrie Underwood, rock band Smashing Pumpkins and indie band Reverend & The Makers. Opinion I am very happy to see the excellent Maroon 5 finally get a #1 single with Payphone, Moves Like Jagger was very unlucky but still sold over a million. Call My Name is not a bad song really but just a pity that Cheryl has no real talent but is never out of the papers. I really like Stooshe's new song Black Heart, it's far better than Love Me which actually was ok. I also really like Katy Perry's Wide Awake (and both of her albums), better than Part Of Me which I also did like. Really not happy to see Justin Bieber get the #1 album, the worst of the non-singers with the top 2 albums this week! The opinion of this writer is not necessarily the opinion of Buzzjack in general!
