  17. Rudimental feat John Newman - Feel The Love enters at #1 We have a new #1 this week as East London based duo Rudimental debut at #1 with huge drum & bass hit Feel The Love, knocking Fun's We Are Young down to #2. The duo take their name from a type of drumming called rudimental. Rudimental have made remixes of various recent hits from the likes of Ed Sheeran, Wretch 32 and Labrinth, as well as releasing a limited edition single entitled Spoons. Feel The Love is their first full release and features vocals from British singer John Newman. Loreen - Euphoria enters at #3 The winners of this year's Eurovision Song Contest were Sweden, whose entry came from 28 year old Swedish pop singer Lorine Zineb Noka Talhaoui known as Loreen. After appearing on Idol 2004 then disappearing whilst directing some other Swedish talent shows, Loreen took part in Melodifestivalen 2011 with the song My Heart Is Refusing Me. She did not get through, however this year she tried again with the track Euphoria and ended up winning the contest. The song has been a #1 hit already in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Noway and Ireland, now a #3 hit in the UK. Unfortunately our entry from Engelbert Humperdinck has missed out on a top 40 placing, after UK coming second last in the competition. Lawson - When She Was Mine enters at #4 London based 4 piece pop rock band Lawson get a new entry at #4 with their debut single When She Was Mine this week. Lead singer Andy Brown was a member of the boyband Avenue, alongside Max George who is the lead singer of The Wanted. The band Avenue were banned from participation in 2006's X Factor, amidst accusations of professional representation. Andy recruited drummer Adam Pitts, bass player Ryan Fletcher and guitarist Joel Peat to form Lawson. Their debut single When She Was Mine was aparently written about Andy Brown's split with Saturdays singer Molly King, whom he was dating up until last year. Gary Barlow & Commonwealth Band - Sing enters at #11 In case there is anyone out there who doesn't know, this is the Queen's Diamond Jubilee weekend celebrating 60 years on the throne for Her Majesty. Amongst the many events taking place, Gary Barlow has organised a special concert and has composed an official jubilee song entitled Sing. The song features various musicians from across the Commonwealth, including the Military Wives choir, Andrew Lloyd Webber and none other than Prince Harry on tambourine. Released as an EP, the bundle features 7 tracks including a cover of Here Comes The Sun and Amazing Grace. This means that the track Sing appears as a standalone track in the singles chart but also appears in the album charts as an EP, so as a cherry picked track Sing enters at #11. Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso - Calling (Lose My Mind) enters at #19 Swedish DJ Sebastian Ingrosso has been active since 2000, producing remixes and working with the likes of Steve Angelo, Axwell and Kylie Minogue. He made his breakthrough 2010 as a third of Swedish House Mafia, alongside the aforementioned Steve Angelo and Axwell. Now he joins his fellow house mates in getting a top 20 hit of his own, as Calling (Lose My Mind) hits #19. Alexandra Burke - Let It Go enters at #33 Flop of the week has to go to 2008's X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, as her new single Let It Go does just that and limps in at #33 this week. This follows the #3 peak of her last single Elephant, and serves as the 2nd single from her 2nd album Heartbreak On Hold, due to be released next week. Her debut album Overcome spawned 5 massive top 10 hits, 3 of which were #1s with her winner's cover of Hallelujah selling over a million. This is something of a comedown, only time will tell if this is just a glitch or if it spells the end for Ms Burke. Justin Bieber - Die In Your Arms enters at #34 Canadian teen star Justin Bieber gets yet another new entry in the top 40 this week as the latest promotional release for his album enters at #34, entitled Die In Your Arms. This follows the #39 entry for Turn To You (Mother's Day Dedication) 3 weeks ago, this track was also released mid-week on Tuesday. You can expect a further 2 new entries of this nature leading up to the release of the album Believe. Wretch 32 feat Ed Sheeran Hush Little Baby enters at #35 Rapper Wretch 32 gets a 4th top 40 hit this week as Hush Little Baby enters the top 40 at #35, after spending sveeral weeks outside. The UK grime rapper first came on the scene last year when he scored a trio of top 5 hits with Traktor (#5), Unorthodox (#2) and Don't Go (#1), followed by flop single Forgiveness. Mr 32 teamed up with Example for last year's Unorthodox and Josh Kumra for Don't Go, now he brings in Ed Sheeran for Hush Little Baby. This is now Ed's 4th top 40 hit, with a 5th very likely next week following his performance of Small Bump on The Voice final. Gary Barlow tops the album chart with Sing Released as a single but with the EP featuring 7 tracks, this means that Gary Barlow has claimed the number one album with his new single release Sing. That technicality means that Paloma Faith debuts at #2 with the best selling full album of the week, her second album Fall To Grace. Rumer enters at #3 with her second album Boys Don't Cry, in a top 5 made entirely of new entries. In at #4 is Scissor Sisters 4th album Magic Hour and at #5 is Anthems by opera singer Russell Watson. Icelandic group Sigur Ros debut at #8 with their 6th studio album Valtari (Icelandic for Steamroller) and 2nd to get a top 10 placing. Meoldy Gardot, Ultravox, Alt-J and Regina Spektor are amongst the many other significant new entries this week. Opinion I am not particularly happy to see Rudimental top the charts this week, as I am not keen on the song ... it's not that bad just not my kind of thing. I really like Euphoria by Loreen, even if it is a little overrated on this site! Lawson's When She Was Mine is really good, as is the Coldplay/Rihanna track working its way up. Gary Barlow's Sing is very good in a Military Wives kind of way, it features them anyway! Sebastian Ingrosso's song is not bad but again not really my kind of thing. Alexandra Burke's new single is pretty rubbish, especially after some of her other good songs like All Night Long, Bad Boys and The Silence. Beiber's new one isn't quite as bad as most of his other material, mind you that doesn't make it good by any means but just half listenable! Hush Little Baby is just as bad as most of Wretch 32's output so far, even the presence of the brilliant Ed Sheeran doesn't improve it much. Paloma Faith's new album really is fabulous, pity it was robbed of #1 by a technicality.
  18. Rita Ora feat Tinie Tempah - RIP enters at #1 We have a new #1 from 21 year old English singer songwriter Rita Ora as RIP debuts at the top to replace Tulisa. Having featured on DJ Fresh's #1 hit Hot Right Now, Rita Ora is now the first atrist to score 2 #1s this year. In 2009, Rita Ora auditioned to be the British Eurovision contestant and was later signed up after singing in bars and clubs. Rita has appeared on tracks from the likes of Craig David, Tinchy Stryder and Jay Z in the past, as well as making several cameo appearences in music videos. RIP features rapper Tinie Tempah and serves as his 3rd #1 hit and 14th top 40 entry in total, since his debut in 2010. Rita is up against new singles from the Saturdays and D'Banj, so looks fairly safe for a second week (unless Fun can finally make it or Carly returns). Far East Movement feat Justin Bieber - Live My Life enters at #7 US hip hop quartet Far East Movement get themselves this week's second highest new entry at #7 with Live My Life. The group hit #5 over here with their 2010 single Like A G6, followed by #14 hit Rocketeer in 2011. This track features a certain Justin Bieber, making this the 4th UK top 10 hit he is featured on. The Canadian teen star can also lay claim to having 3 singles inside this week's top 40, as Turn To You debuts at #39 after a mid-week release in time for US Mother's Day. Boyfriend is back up 3 places to #17 afer its video release and increasing airplay. Emeli Sande - My Kind Of Love enters at #xx Aberdeen born singer songwriter Emeli Sande, whose real name aparently is Adele, gets a 4th UK top 40 hit of her own as My Kind Of Love debuts at #25. She first made her name as a writer for the likes of Alesha Dixon, Cheryl Cole, Tinie Tempah and Chipmunk. Emeli first started collaborating with Chipmunk and Wiley on Diamond Rings and Never Be Your Woman respectively. In 2011, Emeli hit #2 with her debut single Heaven, which was followed by #21 flop single Daddy. She reversed her fortunes when she hit #1 alongside Professor green on Read All About It. This year saw the release of her debut album Our Version Of Events and huge #2 hit Next To Me, which is at #32 this week. Matrix & Futurebound - All I Know enters at #29 London based drum and bass producer Jamie Quinn has been recording and releasing meterial since 1994 under the name of Matrix. He is the brother of Matt Quinn (Optical), and has produced remixes for the likes of Annie Lennox, Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams. In 2002, he scored a top 10 hit as one half of Goldtrix with It's Love (Trippin'). Now he charts once again as part of a duo, this time teaming up with Liverpool-based producer Brendan Collins (Futurebound), All I Know debuts at #29 in this week's singles chart. Labrinth - Express Yourself enters at #36 23 year old London based singer songwriter Timothy McKenzie gets himself another top 40 hit this week, under the name of Labrinth. Labrinth is signed to Simon Cowell's record label and first featured on the Tinie Tempah's first 2 hits Pass Out and Frisky. He then hit #3 with his debut hit Let The Sun Shine, before hitting #2 last year amidst a huge Earthquake. Earlier this year, he followed that with #4 hit Last Time which was followed by debut album Electronic Earth. Express Yourself was performed on Britain's Got talent during the week by Labrinth himself, hence its entry this week at #36. Borrowing a sample from the 1971 US hit Express Yourself by Charles Wright Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, this Express Yourself is not to be confused with the Madonna hit. Keane - Strangeland is this week's #1 album UK band Keane get themselves a 5th #1 album entry with their 4th album release Strangeland, the last being the Night Train EP which was classified as a mini-album. Hopes & Fears, Under The Iron Sea and Perfect Symmetry preceded last year's EP release. Emeli Sande sees her album rise to #2 after her appearence on The Voice. Following a Jools Holland performance, 45 year old Sheffield singer songwriter Richard Hawley debuts at #3 with new album Standing At The Sky's Edge. Wakefield 3 piece rock band The Cribs debut at #9 with their 5th album In the Belly of the Brazen Bull. Barbadan pop group Cover Drive enter at #14 with their debut album Bajan Style, featuring the singles Lick Ya Down, Twilight and Sparks. Other new entries are from My Bloody Valentine, Proclaimers, BoB and Damon Albarn. Personal Opinion I think RIP is ok but not #1 worthy, it is certainly better without the rap from Tinie Tempah but still nothing special. I really don't like either of the new entries with Bieber on them, both are rubbish for different reasons. Rihanna's Where Have You Been is growing on me lots now, I now quite like it after being indifferent to it. I absolutely love Emeli Sande's new one and really hope that My Kind Of Love can go on to be a decent sized hit, in fact her entire album is fabulous. Not really a fan of Matrix & Futurebound's one, it's ok but another that I'm kind of indifferent to at the moment. Labrinth's Express Yourself is quite good, I much prefer it to Earthquake as I don't really like that one much. I love Keane's new album, I think it is a return to form but still not quite as good as Hopes & Fears which I'd rank amongst my favourite albums of all time.

  23. Tulisa - Young enters at #1 Singer and X Factor Judge Tulisa Contostavlos claims her first #1 hit, as her solo single release Young debuts at #1 this week. Tulisa is perhaps best known as a member of 3 piece hip hop group N-Dubz, formed in 2000 along with cousin Dappy and friend Fazer. The now defunct N-Dubz scored 10 top 40 hits of their own with the biggest being 2009's #5 hit I Need You, they also hit #1 with Number One alongside Tinchy Stryder. Tulisa's debut solo single was intially marketed as We Are Young but following the success of Fun's single (still at #3 this week), it was shortened to Young. The track's sales of over 120k mean that the track is now this year's fastest selling single, following sales around 100k for the last 4 weeks of Carly Rae Jespen's reign. As can be seen in the weekly sales threads, single sales are looking healthy at the moment but album sales are most certainly not. Cover Drive - Sparks enters at #4 Brabadan pop group Cover Drive get their 3rd top 10 hit with their 3rd single release, as Sparks debuts at #4 this week. The band consisting of lead singer Amanda Reifer, T-Ray, Barry Hill (AKA Bar-man) and Jamar Harding are aged between 18 and 22, Amanda aparently met T-Ray when she was his babysitter and the rest met whilst at college or school. The band started writing and recording material just last year, and hit #9 in the UK with their debut single Lick Ya Down. In January this year however, they hit #1 with Twilight and now follow it with #4 hit Sparks. All singles are on their debut album Bajan Style, which is released this week. Train - Drive By climbs to #7 Californian band Train got their third UK top 20 hit as Drive By entered at #14 a fortnight ago, the track then climbed to #10 to equal their biggest hit. Now they surpass Drops Of Jupiter by climbing to #7 with the single. Also their biggest selling hit to date, the #18 peaking Hey Soul Sister re-enters at #38 after a 59p price reduction. This now means that their only 3 UK top 20 hits have all been in the top 40 in the last 2 months, not bad for a band who were written off as one hit wonders 11 years ago! Typical of trains, you wait for 11 years then 3 come along in quick succession ... albeit 2 return fares! Rihanna - Where Have You Been enters at #21 Talking of Barbadan stars, chart regular Robyn Rihanna Fenty racks up an impressive 30th UK top 40 hit this week (including 7 as featured artist) since her 2005 debut. Where has she been? Well precisely nowhere it seems as she had hardly been out of the top 40 in the last few years. Where Have You Been is Rihanna's 4th single release from her Talk That Talk album, following on from the million selling We Found Love and the smaller hits You Da One and Talk That Talk. This track is likely to progress further in the coming weeks and become the second highest peaking single from this era. Sub Focus feat Alice Gold - Out Of The Blue enters at #23 Right out of the blue comes English electronic music producer Nick Douwma with a new entry as Sub Focus at #23, his second top 40 hit and highest charter to date. Sub Focus has been releasing material since 2003, and has produced for The Prodigy, Deadmau5, Rusko, Empire Of The Sun, Dizzee Rascal and most successfully Example. However he only hit the top 40 in his own right in 2009 with #38 double A sided single Rock It / Follow The Light. Then came 2 #41 singles Could This Be Real and Splash, the latter featuring Italian born singer Coco (aka I Blame Coco). Out Of The Blue features vocals from English singer songwriter Alice Gold, who released 5 singles last year but has not charted until now. Avicii - Silhouettes enters at #26 22 year old Swedish DJ Tim Bergling gets another top 40 hit this week under the name of Avicii as Silhouettes casts a shadow over the #26 position. His debut single was Seek Bromance, a top 20 hit in 2010 under the name of Tim Berg. After a court battle last year with X Factor winner Leona Lewis, Avicii got a feature credit on her #4 hit Collide, which samples his track Penguin. Also last year, Avicii scored a massive selling #4 hit of his own with the Etta James sampling Levels. Now he enters at #26 with Silhouettes, which provides him with a 4th top 41 appearence! Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans enters at #32 US singer songwriter Lana Del Rey gets herself a third UK top 40 hit as new single Blue JEans finally makes the top 40, after a several weeks lingering just outside. This comes after a live performance of the track as a guest singer on The Voice UK last week, originally appearing as a B side on the Video Games digital EP. Both the aforementioned Video Games and Born To Die singles made #9 and the Born To Die album hit #1 this year for Lana. Also appearing due to The Voice is Jame Vincent McMorrow's cover of Higher Love, re-entering at #37. Flux Pavillion feat Example - Daydreamer enters at #39 English dubstep producer and DJ Joshua Steele gets his very first top 40 hit this week, under the name of Flux Pavillion as Daydreamer enters at #39 alongside Example. Flux released his debut single entitled Cheap Crisps, followed by F**king Noise and Crunch ... the f**king noise must have been him crunching on those cheap crisps! In 2011 he released a single called How Rude, so he acknowledged that fact then! Bass Cannon and Superbad singles both reached the top 75 last year, however Daydreamer is his first foray into the top 40, featuring UK singer / rapper Example. Marina & The Diamonds tops the album chart Marina Diamandis hits #1 with her second album Electra Heart, featuring her current #11 peaking single Pima Donna. Lana Del Rey climbs to #2 and Jack White falls to #3, while Norah Jones improves on her last 2 albums by entering at #4 with Little Broken Hearts. Adele drops a massive 3 places with the huge flop of an album that is 21, so much a flop that it now ranks at #5 in the all time best selling albums list! X Factor runner up Rebecca Ferguson returns to the top 20 with Heaven, and Marilyn Manson debuts #14 with Born Villain, whilst Alex Clare progresses to #17 with The Lateness Of The Hour. Personal Opinion I quite like Tulisa's song Young, even if it is a blatant rip off of Rihanna's We Found Love. I would have preferred Fun's We Are Young to rise to #1, as I absolutely love that song right now. Quite like Cover Drive's Sparks, it's ok but not brilliant by any means. Same can be said for Rihanna's new single, it's an improvement on her last 2 efforts anyway. Whilst not bad really in their ownr rights, I don't care much for Avicii, Sub Focus or Flux Pavillion's songs either. I do really love Marina's new album and am glad to see it at #1, as it features her most successful and best single Prima Donna.
