Give the album a listen. I don’t think you get it at all. The music is extremely personal and vulnerable

Oh bore off you have no idea what you’re talking about

Oh my god you’re right! How did I not clock that I don’t get the inclusion or relation to ‘Card Declined’ though. I need delve into the podcast and interviews she’s done this week

‘Card Declined’ is so intriguing to me. I keep thinking it’s a new song coming on towards the end. That bit might as well have been an interlude but it’s not. I wonder what the backstory is.

‘Lockup’ playlisted by Radio 1. They’re officially mainstream omg

Oooh good to hear that! Come on Hot Hits UK. We need another top 40 hit for this era

More reviews! 8.2 - Pitchfork “On the follow-up to BRAT, the pop auteur pivots to a referential, proudly tossed-off rock sound that offers mystifying glances behind the curtain of stardom.” 5/5 - DIY “A candid, introspective triumph that leaves just enough of the dancefloor well and truly alive.” 8.8 - Beats Per Minute “It’s just… so much more than what I expected from a pop album!” 3/5 - The Independent “There are moments of excellence in this perplexing, frustrating Brat follow-up”

I managed to listen to this twice on my way to work this morning. Her mind with making the most of our valuable time! Brief thoughts: no skips, lots of fun and interesting sounds and devastatingly personal lyrics. The singles work even better in album format, like one of the critics said: her most fully-realised statement yet. I was tearing up and smiling at the same time when ‘No One Lasts Forever’ was fading out.

Oh gosh I was hoping for higher placements than that

Addy you smashed it again bestie! The reveal twist gave ESC drama and the airline theme is as authentic and fun as ever Best winner in a while! Congrats Harve Checked out Julianna and Mary’s album off the back of hearing this song, and just wow… can they be a permanent duo please. 17th is a great finish for yaego - ty for those that pointed our angelcore tripbanger, especially the gods of music taste blacksquare and Jerd for the 18s 🤍 Also super happy to see Alana Henderson as high as 13th, like Skall, a great standout from what we’ve became accustomed to hearing in the contest

First critic reviews are in! 5/5 - The Guardian “How do you follow up the album that made you a star – and a caricature? In classic Charli style: with a pivot to guitar and a meta masterpiece about the instability of identity.” 9/10 - The Line of Best Fit “Music, Fashion, Film arrives as Charli xcx’s most fully realised statement as an artist.” 4/5 - Rolling Stone “Her proper follow-up to Brat is a brilliant, catchy, often very funny look at the machinery of fame.” 2/5 - The Telegraph “The Brat star’s bid for artistic reinvention is smothered by grating production and empty, self-conscious songs.”
