  1. Khruangbin, yay
  2. One that's not on this list, and it was a top 40 hit from 2008 is Status Quo's It's Christmas Time. It's one I play a fair bit this time of year :) It's one of my faves.
  3. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to AJ, I liked her dances a lot too I like Rose, but I'm rooting for John to win
  4. Having a rule change on a timescale that's divisible by whole years, like exactly 3 years, might make it more likely that a song (more likely perhaps a Xmas song), could have an unusual chart run owing to an automatic rule change activation. I would prefer it if SCR kicked in after say 150 or 180 weeks or something. Also, if they did something like an ACR reset if a song had let's say 60 consecutive weeks absent from the top 40, I think that would be cool B-) I like Xmas songs anyway

A moving, a little worrying and a very powerful episode I felt I watched tonight.
  6. I'm Walking Backwards for Christmas by The Goons a top 10 hit in July one year.
  7. Candy Cane is a grower. I watched it this morning. Yep, wasn't sure at first, but I'm starting to like it. I still prefer Snowman.
  8. The song's nice, but I prefer Pipes of Peace and Winter Bird/When Winter Comes off of his latest Album. As for Snowman, by Sia. I put it high up on my list at #2, so was happy to see it reach this top 40. I prefer it to Santa's Coming For Us. I hadn't seen the video for it before. The one I'm familiar with, I think is an extended TV ad.
  9. Another "seasonal" songfest where older songs may re-appear, is during the Football World Cup. They are also affected by ACR vs SCR, which I also like to see how they do chart wise.
  10. I'm not sure if I like ACR or not. I can see the potential for an interesting top 40 chart run, if a Xmas song's "3rd birthday" is just before Xmas.
  11. So what constitutes a Christmas song? "Last Christmas", sure, but what about "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow"? It doesn't mention Christmas, unlike "I Just Called To Say I Love You", which does. B-)
  12. Thanks for the suggestion, cheers
  13. 01. King's College Choir - The Coventry Carol 02. Sia - Snowman 03. George Michael - December Song 04. King's College Choir - Silent Night 05. Greg Lake - I Believe in Father Christmas 06. Kate Bush - Misty 12. Darlene Love - All Alone on Christmas 13. Steeleye Span - Gaudete 14. Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody 15. Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping 16. Paul McCartney - Pipes of Peace 17. The Communards - So Cold The Night 18. Sparks - Christmas Without a Prayer 19. King's College Choir - Suo Gan 20. Monty Python - Christmas in Heaven On another night, the order might change, especially in the lower half, and there might be some I've forgot about but liked, but anyway...
  14. Maybe Last Christmas will vie for #1 before year end, well here's hoping. I am surprised December Song by George Michael, which for me is at least as good as Last Christmas, doesn't get very high chart wise. Oh and Greg Lake with I Believe in Father Christmas, I'm surprised at that not being a big Xmas chart staple. Oh and while I'm on a roll, Sia, Snowman B-)

A Christmas special? Great! It's one of the best comedy shows on telly. That'll be highlighted, in the annual tradition at home of combing through the Christmas Double issue.
  16. I'd quite like to see Ladbaby do the Xmas #1 hat trick. Didn't ABBA record a couple of new songs a while back? Imagine if they released a new song in December, would it roar to number one?
  17. I've been enjoying the yesteryear World Snooker classics on TV, replacing what would have currently been the actual 2020 event, which I think is tentatively pencilled in for later this year, but I'm not certain. Anyway... It got me wondering if something similar was planned for Eurovision week/night? Yep, an evening of snooker, lol. But seriously, I'd enjoy an evening of yesteryear Eurovision highlights. Tbh, I'd be more likely to tune in to that, as a lot of the modern mainstream music sadly doesn't appeal that much to me.
  18. Sia's "Snowman" is great. I was going to mention Sufjan Steven's "I'll Be Home For Christmas" but realise it's more then a decade old. What about George Michael's "December Song"? that was a decade ago when it charted. Isn't there something about a streaming 3 year chart rule? Does this apply to songs that haven't charted to date?
  19. I like Sia's Snowman. I think it's a lovely tune
  20. Was in two minds about following TOTP from 1985 onwards. I started to find a fair bit of pop music that came out from 1985 onwards, to be somehow less exciting. I don't know why, I can't quite put my finger on it. And it seemed to happen almost overnight. Perhaps it's just me
  21. Did or will Radio 1 have a top 40 chart for this week? The impression I got, was on Friday it was the years top 100, a year which we are still in!
  22. My jaw dropped a couple of years ago, when my sister said she knew someone who took down the Xmas decorations on Boxing Day! I find it all a bit sad tbh. Makes me feel as if I'm somehow acentric for keeping them up until 12th night. And seeing those Xmas songs drop like a hot potato on the 2nd day of Xmas doesn't help.
  23. I'd say 1984, as a teenager back then, this was before the seemingly endless new entries at number one almost every week, that happened for years. I know it's somewhat different now. Anyway, it's not just the chart movements, but it's also what fills the chart, that most counts. I think 1964 to 1984 music wise tended to be really good and varied stuff, including even novelty records, which I think were much more appreciated back then.
  24. If this happens, will it also apply to films etc?
  25. Never remembered George Michael appearing solo in the TOTP studio. Wonder if he did so again?
