  1. One thing that's puzzled me for years is, wasn't there a film short (I could have sworn it was just before "The Life of Brian") being a spoof travelogue about Venice and it numerous Gondolas? It starts of seriously, then the presenter gets more and more irate until he is turning the Venitian air blue. I'm starting to think I've imagined the whole thing.
  2. That's a good point. I was thinking about the Jeff Goldblum remake. Vincent Price was in the original, wasn't he? That was good too, but I think the remake had the edge.

The other film Doctor, that nobody seams to mention is of course Peter Cushing, who (excuse pun  ) I think was the best Doctor bar whatsisname, (goes searching on google) ah, of course, Christopher Eccleston. Torchwood, which of course is a clever anagram of Doctor Who looks to be good, judging by the trailers. I think it may even be better than Doctor Who. Is that sacrilege?
  4. I saw the Madness of Boy George documentary and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I actually believe he is more grounded than he maybe appears. I bet he's an absolute scream!!! :yahoo: I like Madonna, I suppose I'm even a fan, but if I could choose who I could have an afternoon tea with, I'd plump for Boy George.
  5. There are tons of other horror films out there along with those listed. A lot of the old black and white films were more frightening and indeed the silent film "Nosferatu" stands out. "The Fly" is another good horror film.

I think any #1 record which only spent 1 week in the top 5. That's not to say that some weren't good. Blur's Beetlebum for example was brill!
  7. Now, I'd say a song found somewhere in between "Sunset" and "Nocturn" would have been a good choice of single and a big hit me thinks, possibly number 1, but that's all Pi in the sky, unless it ever becomes a single. But I suspect, that maybe we're more bothered about her having a hit single than she is!

This was the year that both The Beatles and Mike Flowers Pops were denied #1 spots
  9. Alas, I'm thinking Fighting Butterflies will sell something closer to two copies than three hundred thousand. I saw something on TV once, where it was said that only about 7% of single sales were due to quality, the rest were apparently generated because of noteriety, hype etc.
  10. I agree with Gnarls' album being a letdown bar about 5 or 6 tracks and I'm glad Dannii didn't put out those extra tracks on a studio album as it would have been atrocious... Have to agre about the Gnarles Barclay album I'm afraid. The two singles and a couple of the album tracks were very goeod, but overall I was very disapointed. Zero 7's album The Garden on the other hand is simply brilliant. I have litterally only just bought only my third album this year - Ta-Dah. At £9.99 I guess it's a snip for a bit of Sissor Sisters action :D  Thought I'd use this smillie before anyone else does
  11. Totally agree, but I would add to that, inclusion of EP's and video downloads.
  12. Well, alot of this modern US attitude stuff, sort of - I dunno, rap (with the capital C missing) with a R n' B blend. But some people seem to love it.
  13. Ahh, this was when Chico was numero uno. Wonder what delights await us from this years X Factor?
  14. An upbeat track with a negative song title, strange. I do like it, but not enough to go out and buy the single or album, yet.
  15. My personal favourite and the only one I've got is "Crazy". although I'm bored of it now :( I like Orson and the current encumbant as well. And as for Chico. Why are half of you so humourless? If there is one thing worst than Novely records, it's having no novelty records. It would be just so BORING!!! :puke2:
  16. If the singles chart doesn't matter, why do record companies bother deleting their stock when still high in the charts? I fully understand why record shops don't want digital only hit singles, as for one thing, it could make their CD singles chart section look like Swiss Cheese. "This Womans Work" by Kate Bush would have made a top 40 appearance following its use on Footballers Wives last year, but fell well and truly foul of the 52 week ruling by then. It would be fun to see quirky things like that happen. Now that would be what I would call a chart reflecting peoples current tastes and bang up to date! Single sales in the 1950's weren't that great, were they? and yet that is when this modern singles chart began, so why do sales matter now? I think with the Singles chart, it is either evolve or die. Singles I guess were up until the 1980's one of the things at the forefront of general entertainment. Perhaps Singles have slipped down the "Entertainment" chart, since these days there are so many other things to grab your attention, not least the Internet along with sites like this!

So what has replaced TOTP this week. A program called Restoration. No chance I spose this program will try to restore TOTP then? ^_^
  18. I was going to mention Madonna and Holiday. :D Same could be said about John Lennon with the classic Happy Xmas, which was kept off #1 spot by Imagine. But both are classics. plus: The Beatles "Strawberry Feilds Forever/Penny Lane" Black Lace "Agadoo" niel "Hole In My Shoe" :( Laurie Anderson "O Superman" Like marmite, you either loved this or hated it.
  19. Great topic! Concept albums may get adversly effected as I think the emphasis with downloads seems to be for individual songs, but then again a concept album is more a suite of music so seen more as a single entity. Compilation albums may suffer most. After all, with an i-pod (I don't own one) I guess you can create your own compilations. Now they may really suffer, but who knows?
  20. I still think #1, but what do I know.

I'm guessing, this isn't that new song they performed at Live 8 last year?
  22. 23. Was "Eye Level", by (I think it was) the Simon Park Orchestra the last #1 which was purely an instrumental. i.e. no vocal sounds. "Give it away" by Zero 7 would have made a superb instrumental single in my opinion.
  24. What I actually, meant to say, was I reckon an armarda of footie songs, with 3 Lions at the helm will sail to the top of the charts should England lift the Trophy.
  25. If, and it's a BIG if, England Win the World Cup :yahoo: then I think Shayne will be lucky to reach the top 5. I really hope England Win :yahoo:
