  1. I was sorry to see Neil edited out of yesterday evenings edition of TOTP. If they need to edit a song out for timing purposes, I wish they'd pick a video instead of a stage performance. In any case, I like the Neil song
  2. I was just about to turn over, nearly an hour into it, then the Portuguese song came on, and I thought it stood out! Lovely. Turned over during the next song. So, delighted this morning to see it win. And his sentiment about throw away pop, yep, I agree.
  3. Ah, I've found the off switch ;)
  4. I just wonder how TOTP's would have handled this? I might have put down my thoughts on the chart, but sadly, I don't think I can be bothered. I used to find it so much fun. Now I just mostly switch off.
  5. I voted for the download era chart, but if there had been an option for a pre 1994 physical era chart, I think I'd have voted for that instead.
  6. I believe Abba Gold had a gap of nearly 16 years between it's debut at #1 and it's last time atop the charts. Is Bowie's album, a record (pardon the pun) for the slowest climb to reach #1?
  7. It's great re-living TOTP and such a variety of music. I enjoy the majority of songs and that can include, shall I say the more "quirky" songs and performances, which makes me and my other half have a chat and laugh about.
  8. I was going to ask, if any act's number 1 single wasn't from the number 1 album, but then I noticed The Beatles, as Sgt Pepper I believe had no singles released from it.
  9. I think a limit would be nice, like 100 or something, but perhaps over let's say 180 day period or something. That would help a song that's popular once again in the future have another chart run.
  10. Sad to hear the news about David Bowie passing away. I was only saying last month that I wish Blackstar was heading for the top of the (singles) charts. Nice to hear some of his records once again, but sadly, following his death. RIP
  11. I think the NHS Choir song's quite nice, but as for some people perhaps being motivated to download the song for reasons beyond just purely liking the song, well, call me a cynic, lol, but I thought that's always been quite common place.
  12. I thought that streams were attributed to the parent album somehow, so how come this extraordinary singles chart domination? I like "Love Yourself".
  13. I wish it was David Bowie with "Blackstar" and also Sparks with "Christmas Without a Prayer", that were heading for the top of the charts.
  14. Glad I caught up with this weeks TOTP, rather than watched it during transmission. I cut short MOST of the songs. Only Gary Numan and Bowie, especially Bowie's, I liked.
  15. I like the BBC and yes there's a licence fee, which is plain to see. So, I wonder: How do the commercial TV networks pay to run themselves? I'll hazard a guess (to cut a long story short) that one way would be that, a part of the price of some products would be to cover costs for TV ads

This is great. I don't tend to watch much drama, but this is good drama. Also, I think worth a mention is, The Saboteurs on More 4 another great drama. I know, sounds like a watch a bit more drama than I let on, lol

I was just gonna say the I thought series 1 was simply brilliant, a must see. Series 2 was decent. Series 3 was ok. and series 4, put it this way, I didn't persevere watching after I think the 2nd episode.
  18. Having the chart at the start of the weekend, rather than at the fag end of the weekend, sounds like a good idea to me. I'll probably give it a quick check out, but tbh I don't follow the charts much any more. I suspect the album chart will be on the same day as the singles chart. But I think that would be a shame, as having it on a different day, I would have thought, would be good idea.
  19. Wasn't the New Musik TOTP performance, This World of Water and not Living By Numbers?
  20. Just thought; had this move taken place last year, then assuming Band Aid 30 was still released on the Monday morning, it might have held the #1 spot for 2 weeks and perhaps had a better chart run following on from that
  21. Heard about the date change on the news. I haven't checked out the chart for a couple of months now. The last one I checked out, I believe had only 1 new entry in the top 40. The thing is, 3 hours felt too long to me. An abridged top 40 appeals more to me. Even 2 hours is pushing it, lol I remember listening to the new chart on a Tuesday lunchtime. They played the top 5 plus others during a 75 minute show, now that sort of length would appeal to me, but I've kind of drifted off from it now. I think much more interesting music is played on R3 Late Junction and on World On 3.
  22. Geraldine McQueen, Once Upon A Christmas Song, top 5 in 2008

I have to say, this is in my opinion a better version, and yep I'd agree, it's more punchier

Just looked it up. I had always thought the tune was based on Tchaikovsky, but apparently it's Prokofiev Anyway, "I Believe In Father Christmas" not Santa Claus, quite right! has always been one of my Favourites "Joel The Lump Of Coal" sounds really quite good. A decent new Christmas song. Hope it goes top 40 I voted for The Pogues
  25. It'd be nice to think that the physical release next week would push Band Aid 30 back to #1 and possibly be the Xmas #1 as well, but I think unfortunately, that is going to be far less likely. Sadly, the least likely scenario does appear to be, it going back to #1 this Sunday!
