iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 11th May 2014
The Common Linnets were my favourite by a wide margin on the Eurovision, but happy for Conchita too.

Running Order for the Final
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the first 2 or 3 years of "Britain's Got Talent" show, the winner was also the last performance in the Finals. So the UK being on last... I admit I haven't heard any of the songs, but I'm not gonna hold my breath about the UK winning. I'm kinda rooting for the Austrian entry, even tho I haven't heard the song yet, lol. Well, me already judging a song I haven't heard, based solely on visuals! Am I typical?

Most Downloaded Eurovision Songs
What I find interesting, is that for a huge international event, all the song titles are in English. Were all these releases sung in English?

Why do the charts interest you?
I guess it's like in sport, willing on your favourite Player, Team, Horse etc, to do well, likewise with music. Though I can't think of any horses galloping up the chart, lol. There's more to music than the chart stuff though

Kate Bush
Yes, I guess that's it. It makes more sense. A friend has since told me, he'd heard the asking price for a ticket was something like £110 Sorry to hear you had no joy either btw

Kate Bush
I've pasted this part of my post from the TOTP 1979 topic: "Noticed a Kate Bush song in the countdown, suspect this would be "Wow". Was hoping she would be on this week, but wasn't. The other disappointment for me regards Kate Bush, is, no luck at getting a ticket for her concerts later this year. I was tbh taken aback at the ticket price I saw of over *£400, but even that, it now seems wasn't available at the time I looked, and I wouldn't pay that, even if I am a big fan of hers. I've only ever seen Zero 7 in concert, off topic I know, sorry." *Looks like that included more than just the ticket for that price!

Acts you were certain would be huge...
Posting in another part of Buzzjack, I mentioned Zero 7. Now, I don't know about the "hype" aspect regards this topic, but here's an Act that I thought would have had, (at the very least) a clutch of top 10 hit singles to their name.

Top of the Pops on Thursdays, bbc 4.
Personal taste an' all, but not one of my favourite shows this week, and for some reason it brought to mind the "nostalgia" lyrics in the Baz Lurhrmann song, Sunscreen. I did like the Three Degrees song though. Noticed a Kate Bush song in the countdown, suspect this would be "Wow". Was hoping she would be on this week, but wasn't. The other disappointment for me regards Kate Bush, is, no luck at getting a ticket for her concerts later this year. Happy vs. Blurred Lines
Ok, slightly off topic and a little after the event, but where was the Oscars shown? I looked at the TV schedules, and I didn't find an "Oscars" programme.

Are you digital or physical?
There's something about having a physical that's better than a download. Well, to me, the sound quality seems superior, for one thing. However, it's great to be able to download most tunes from history or from the World. No more visiting a shop in say Soho or ordering a disc, coz it's not in the chart, or of chart acts, etc. I'm surprised that it seems that not more folks download non chart songs/albums, since access restrictions have somewhat been lifted, but this is a pop site, so guess that might give that impression. Have edited the last line, as I think I sounded a bit pompous

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 19th January 2014
We haven't had this weeks no.1 announced yet! I dunno  Anyway, I wonder, if in the coming weeks, if Happy will pull off a feat, that I believe only 1 song in the 1950's has ever done to date?

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
That's interesting, thanks Coming to think of it, I never bothered to read the LOTR Appendices, so...

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Has anybody read the Silmarillion? I just wondered if any bits of that book have been woven into The Hobbit movies, and the LOTR movies, for that matter?

The Physical Format In 2014
I don't know much about streaming, but I do know that on my ipod, I can in effect compile my own albums Yep, I'll listen to the Radio, usually in the daytime via the BBC i-player, and listen to late night Radio 3 shows that play chill out music and the like, like "World on 3" and "Late Junction". Then I'll maybe download a song or 2 that I really liked.

UK singles chart extension
I misread this topic as, UK singles chart extinction, Oh no, I must be tired

When will Radio 1 count down the year-end chart?
My hunch would be that, if this weeks show was to be radically different, i.e. a top 40 of the year and not a weekly chart, then I'd have thought they would have said, prior to the show, so people would know what to expect.

Top Of The Pops 25/12/13
That's great news. I'd have been surprised if they hadn't tbh. Thanks for the info Robbie

Top Of The Pops 25/12/13
Yes, I remember seeing Bob Geldof on TOTP, tearing up a picture of John Travolta, partly because it was shown more recently on BBC4. I've enjoyed watching BBC4's showing on a weekly(ish) basis, TOTP 1978 this past year. I'm hoping they'll show a weekly(ish) TOTP 1979 in 2014. OK, so it wouldn't be current music... I think I'd better mention TOTP 2013, before someone complains that this is not the thread for TOTP 1978, or 1979 for that matter, ;) so here goes: "TOTP 2013" mentioned  p.s. I hope on the TOTPNY, they play "Happy"

Top Of The Pops 25/12/13
It was the songs from Grease. Maybe it was because I went to the Cinema and found Grease wasn't my cup of tea. As for the 2 songs quoted, along with Boney M's Rivers of Babylon (also on the show), had me and My Other Half giggling, remembering The Barron Knights Dec '78 top 3 hit, A Taste of Agro. Don't follow the charts much these days (except around Xmas), but I imagine hit comic and novelty songs are as rare as hens teeth these days, which I think would be a shame. The John Newman song on Xmas TOTP 2013, was good btw B-)

Top Of The Pops 25/12/13
I saw Xmas TOTP 1978 on TV the other day. There was only a couple of songs, that I didn't enjoy. I saw Xmas TOTP 2013 on i-player today, found myself skipping through quite a few of the songs.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 15th December 2013
I'm sure I downloaded "Happy" for 79p a couple of days ago. I see it's also (currently) at #36 for 99p It would have been great as the Xmas #1, but you never know!, but for some reason, that I can't quite put my finger on, I don't think it will be Me thinks it will ultimately reach the top of the national chart, in about 2 and a half weeks time

So You Thought They Were Hits..
"That's Entertainment", by "The Jam" I think is one of their best known songs, yet it missed the top 20, even though they had chart toppers before and after it. It's an interesting topic. "Julia", by "The Eurythmics" I think is a classic, that never made the top 40, but not certain if it's generally been perceived to have been a hit though.

Return to No.1
John Lennon's, "Just Like Starting Over", originally a top 10 hit I seem to remember, leapt back into the top 20 by going strait to number one, but sadly for all the wrong reasons
