  1. Last year most Xmas songs started to drop a little on the Sunday 23rd Dec chart. This year however, I think, being 2 days earlier, they will peak then and drop come Sunday 28th because: I think certainly these days, people tend to look forward to something and so with Xmas. I think it's the looking forward to that plays a big part. Once it's here, there's a gear change and it feels like it's forget Xmas now it's here, let's look forward to: New Year/Summer Holidays/DIY, you take your pick. I don't think Xmas records will be high on the agenda come Xmas Eve even. (That's regards buying records/Downloading)
  2. Not quite up there I think with the likes of Bohemian Rhapsody, I'd admit  but it's nice to see people just simply having a bit of fun
  3. I looked up polyhex and Iron Maiden's most recent hit went 3-26-73 Steps debut hit peaked at number 14 and also spent 14 weeks inside the top 40. Now, which of these two examples would people consider the bigger hit?

My list is not very scientific, I didn't put too much thought into it, but who cares - lol: 1970 Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel 1971 My Sweet Lord - George Harrison 1972 Happy Christmas (War Is over) - John Lennon 1973 Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak tree - Dawn with Tony Orlando 1974 She - Charles Aznavour 1975 SOS - Abba 1976 Forever and Ever - Demis Roussos 1977 Chanson D'Amour - Manhattan Transfer 1978 Wuthering Heights - Kate Bush 1979 Cars - Gary Numan
  5. I'm sad to hear of his passing. The animations are still utterly charming and wonderful. My favourites are The Clangers and Bagpuss. I have fond memories of the animation shorts. Bagpuss included that wonderful nonsense nursey rhyme in one programme: "The Elephant is a funny bird, it swings from bough to bough. It builds its nest in a Rhurbarb Tree and whistles like a cow".
  6. I think you're idea of a top 40 album chart run-down sounds great, but just one thing, I wish we had both an album and on a seperate day the singles chart run-downs. It would be nice if the monitoring week began on a different day for albums, so that chart would still be up to date when it came out. Doesn't/Didn't Radio 2 do on Monday evenings the Album chart run-down anyway? Btw, I think the singles chart is far more interesting than it was say 10 years ago. For one thing, I love seeing all those festive songs chart. Also, showing just recent releases would be a specialist chart wouldn't it? I can understand where you're coming from though, but for me, nah. I like the eclectic mix.
  7. I (famous last words - lol) would expect this to be number one on Sunday, but I'd be shocked if it held off the X Factor the following week. If it did, I'd have a grin bigger than the Cheshire Cat's! I think there's a trend developing here of maybe of nice quirky 1 week at number one record, the week ahead of an X Factor juggernaut.
  8. I don't mind who wins. If it's anything like last year, then all 3 acts in the final will have releases out at some point anyway. My fave 2 were Ruth and Diana, and I hope they get to release singles/albums, because if they do, I might for once, actually consider buying an album or two that's linked to the X Factor.
  9. :yahoo: Status Quo - It's Christmas Time :yahoo: A Great new Xmas song! Steeleye Span - Gaudete [sounds like gowdaytay] It's sung in Latin I think  Jethro Tull - Ring Out Solstice Bells The Emoticons, Where are their Santa Hats this year ;)
  10. Oh, I was rather hoping that Status Quo would be in there with their new one, It's Christmas Time.

Well, this is the first Christmas for me with an I Pod, and I was wondering what good tunes are out there. I've already got what I'd call the usual suspects - lol, but just wondered if there's any, either overtly or maybe not so overtly Christmassy tunes, but still have that certain Christmassy feel to it. A couple, well 3 that I have that I would put in the sort of Christmassy feel, but not actually Christmassy bracket is: Julia by the Eurythmics. Strange Magic by ELO. So Cold The Night by The Communards. Just wondering what other people might recommend?
  12. I think it's great to have all these Xmas tunes that'll no doubt rise into the top 40 again this year, just a bit of a shame that the X Factor is probably rubber stamped for the Xmas no.1, oh well.

Is this what it's all about, chart watching etc..? Justification of personal taste through popularity?

Oh! :o A Xmas song in there already :D Since "Thriller" and I believe a few other Halloween-ish songs did better chartwise this year than last, I wonder if the same will be true of the Xmas songs :P Will there be an armada of them floating up the chart again! :arrr:

Ruth and Diana are the two that I really like. I haven't found the others (exept perhaps also Alexandria) that engaging.

So it's Eoghan and Ruth in the bottom 2 tonight, well if it follows the same pattern as the last 2 weeks.

They should do a Kate Bush :w00t: week! If only... Surprise me! No I don't think they will. I'm not holding my breath anyway :D Actually a Beatles week would be good, don't spose...

Since when have the public ever voted on performance alone? Maybe I'm just a cynic  I haven't seen this weeks X Factor yet, so can't comment on Daniel's perforance, but I like him and am glad he's still in. Yay.

Oh dear. I thought I was just mocking myself, well that was the intention

Okay, okay. I bow to your superior knowledge on this one. I'm not gonna waste 5 minutes of my life listening to either song to find out. Oh, I'm obviously ready for the knackers yard
  23. I'd like either Diana or Ruth to win! I know which one's more likely to do so.

I thought it was Enrique Iglesias who had the original hit. Silly me  Thought his version was the best, well the only one I could listen to without wanting to switch off/over (delete as applicable). I think Mr. Cowell simply has a very different taste in music to myself.

Recorded the show as always these days (rather than watch it live!) and noticed that the bottom 2 this week were the first 2 on stage that night. Just wondering if any goldfish watch these shows???
