  1. Aren't there any other options? ;)
  2. Was that the organ playing guy? I only saw a bit of that programme last week and saw that bit.
  3. It's difficult to pin down which album is my favourite. For me, her first 5 albums are all worthy of listening to, yes even "Lionheart" which I infact prefer to "The Kick Inside". Her subsequent albums are good, but for me I don't know what it is, but I think they're not quite in the same league, save perhaps  "Ariel".
  4. I had quite forgotten that I've got Jem's album  Here's a clutch of albums that get the occasional dusting down: Essex - - - - - - - - - - - - Alison Moyet - - - - fave track: So Am I Manage The Damage - Jimmy Somerville - fave track: Something To Live For Simple Things - - - - - - Zero 7 - - - - - - - - fave track: Give It Away
  5. Maybe the fact that the UK along with France (which had a very good song btw), Spain and Germany I believe, didn't need to qualify for the final via the semi's meant that they all had poor scores (from what I've read) in the final. Now imagine the UK had to go through the rigours of a semi final, would you vote for any country's entrant that was (how do I phrase this) "parachuted" into the final?
  6. It's funny, because 1996 is about the time that I switched off from watching the Eurovision. I prefered it when they predominantly sang in their national tongue and (I'm guessing a little here as I don't now watch) not invariably in English. For me, it now has a feel of some kind of overlong teeny pop programme. I think 1994 was a classic year btw.
  7. Any completist collecting physical number one singles is probably gonna have their work cut out with what is likely to be next weeks number one.

Surely 4 minutes is a rather speedy climb to #1  Tbh, I've only ever listened to the first 2 minutes of that song once and then switched off. Not my cuppa tea.
  9. When I was channel hopping last night, I caught a glimse of what I recognised to be Big Brother, but I wasn't sure if it was Big Brother or Celebrity Big Brother until I looked at the schedules.
  10. Same here, except I was 14 when I started to follow the charts seriously, but the loss of interest now is more because I don't listen to new music much now.
  11. Is it correct that the "Big 4" countries automatically reach the final? If that's the case, then no wonder the "Big 4" don't tend to do very well these days in the Final. I can well imagine the kind of posts that would appear on here (lol) if the UK had to pass the semis to qualify for the final and lets say 4 other countries gained automatic qualification to the final. I'd feel peaved for one and certainly would then not vote for a country which I felt had been given an unfair advantage. No, imho there should only ever be one country each year who automatically reach the final, and that's the previous years winner.
  12. It would be nice to see some Beatles songs hit the top 40. I guess if they're doing this, it really depends on if they release everything at once or staggered. I can't see any reaching top 10, but you never know!
  13. Wow by Kate Bush is a different song, but in my honest opinion a better song than Kylie's, who I do like! Seen on YouTube her magical performance of Wow on an Abba special. It really is Wow!
  14. Top Of The Pops used have have a big influence on the singles chart, which I kinda miss these days. There's no one programme on TV these days, as far as I know which has even half as much influence on chart positions. That used to shake up the chart a bit. Special events like Xmas, The Brits, etc, no doubt will bring some chart surprises, but their sporadic.
  15. I almost totally agree. But I wouldn't call songs hanging around longer a downside. I stopped listening to the chart in the late 90's when I got fed up to the back teeth of yet another New Entry at number one and a climber was almost unheard of. Maybe people forget that when complaining, as I remember when people were saying that having a number one wasn't as prestigious any more.
  16. Does the chart matter - really? There's an entire world if not universe of songs in reach out there, old and new. To me it just smacks of a lack of imagination just focusing on the chart music. As for the comments earlier about should it be BBC Radio 1 who broadcast the new top 40 and also not enough time to play the chart in full coz of competitions etc. Well, I don't listen to commercial radio because I don't want to hear commercials, surely adverts eat into the time in which to play a top 40 chart.
  17. Were sales counted for whether it qualified for the singles chart or not? (presumably in 2006 neither song would have qualified for the chart)
  18. Sausage and Chips. Well I just did this evening. Oh sorry, you mean records  Oh, none.
  19. I think 1 plus 1 equals 10 if it's in Binary ;) In any case, of course they were faked as they landed on rock and sediment and not on cheese, well it wasn't Wensleydale at any rate
  20. Oh, and another gripe. Why has "The Moon Landings" topic been closed? ^_^
  21. I don't like TV adverts, there seems to be more these days than ever. People complain about paying the licience fee. I might be wrong, but I think the fact that the BBC doesn't do commercials in this market forces culture pegs back the number of adverts shown on commercial stations. I have always thought that if the BBC started showing commercials, the number of commercials on a lot of channels would increase. In any case, you pay directly for the BBC and I guess indirectly for commercial channels. Surely the cost of advertising a product has to factor into the equasion of the price of commodities.
  22. "January" by Pilot, was a #1 hit in February, forget which year. Then of course there's "January, February" by Barbara Dickson
  23. And if it went to number One? ~ I wouldn't mind seeing the movie, but the original is a gem, so a lot to live up to! ~ As for hit potential, well there's another recent big movie song which is only an album track and I assume downloadable which I had thought the fan base would have seen it reach the top 20  but no. So top 30 then? <_< no. Top 40? :( no! Top 75? NO! Top 200? I don't know  So what do I know about songs not destined as singles reaching the singles (or should that be songs) chart. Not a lot it seems  Still I think it's a lovely tune and that's what counts :D The song - Lyra.
  24. Very interesting. I wonder what this chart would look like, if all the chart positions say in the top 20 for each week, 1 pt for #1 and 20 pts for #20 for each song were toted up and then divided by its total number of weeks inside the top 75 with the lowest scoring ending up on top? And no, I don't want to do that sort of calculation  It's all very interesting all the same, thanks.

Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper were a very hard act to follow. I stopped watching after the Werewolf episode (That in itself wasn't a bad programme, quite good infact), but for me the spark that had been there wasn't anymore and I haven't watched a Doctor Who episode, Xmas or otherwise since, til this year. I enjoyed it, it was good fun, but I probably wouldn't watch it regulary again. What makes me chuckle is people saying that the Shot crew member holding the fort rather than being slouched on the floor wasn't very realistic. True, but all I can say is, I never realised you could be beamed on and off a space ship in real life :D Merry Xmas everyone :friends: Oh, and something else I meant to say. I also liked Peter Cushing as the Doctor and one scene that always makes me laugh is when the Doctor, Roy Castle and a girl called Susan I think, are trapped by the Daleks in this small white cell and they look around to think of how to escape and after awhile Susan pipes up and say something like "Look, there's a camera up there in the corner", and they react as if they never saw it and then the "studio camera" pans around and you see this great big black TV monitor in the corner. Brilliant
