    Gavin Ryan's Chartifacts

    (Thanks to Gavin Ryan)

    Singles

Gym Class Heroes scored their first Top 5 hit last year with "Stereo Hearts" (TW-92) which spent four weeks at No.4 during October of 2011. Now they land their first No.1 single in Australia by climbing up one place to No.1 with "Ass Back Home", and we are the first country in the world to place at the top of our charts.

“Ass Back Home” becomes the 422nd ARIA No.1 (1983 to 2012) and the 988th Australian No.1 (1940 to 2011), plus it’s the first time that an Atlantic label artist has knocked off another Atlantic artist, as Flo Rida and Gym Class Heroes are both on the same label, and ‘Ass’ becomes Atlantic’s 17th No.1 in Australia.

It’s the twelfth song with ‘Back’ in it’s title to hit No.1, plus the fourth with ‘Home’ but the first piece of ‘Ass’ in a chart-topper for Australia. Also we’ve had a song with two of those words together in it before, Johnnie Ray’s September 1952 No.1 “Walkin’ My Baby Back Home”. This year also we have only had American acts at No.1 (so far), and Gym Class Heroes become the 391st American act to hit No.1 in Australia with the 647th American performed song.

So after six weeks at No.1, Flo Rida and Sia swap places with the Gym Class Heroes and drop back to No.2 with "Wild Ones", bringing his tally of weeks accumulated at No.1 in Australia to 16, putting him at equal 40th on the list of acts with ‘Most Accumulated Weeks at No.1’ (1940 to 2012), he is equal with Shaggy and Whitney Houston who have also managed sixteen weeks from three No.1’s. Also swapping over are No.3 and No.4, with Qwote and Pitbull climbing to a new peak of No.3 with "Throw Your Hands Up", and after three weeks at No.3, 360 and Gossling drop back a place to No.4 with "Boys like You".

After jumping into the Top 10 last week, Jason DeRulo is up two places to No.5 with "Fight for You", now his sixth Top 5 hit from seven top ten entries. The first of three new entries to the Top 10 comes from fun. feat Janelle Monae with "We Are Young", which leaps up seventeen places to No.6 making Australia it's third country with a Top 10 placing behind Iceland and their home country of the U.S.A.

Chris Brown falls back one place to No.7 with his latest track "Turn up the Music", and after charging into the top ten last week, Katy Perry's "Part of Me" drops down three places to No.8. One Direction’s ticket sales for their upcoming tour caused sell-outs within minutes this past week, which has helped them to score their second Top 10 entry as "One Thing" jumps up eleven places to land at No.9, and also joining the top ten is Nicki Minaj with her new track "Starships", up four places to No.10 and it becomes her fourth Australian Top 10 appearance.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Skrillex leaps ten places to a new peak of No.12 with his track "Bangarang", and up nine spots to No.20 is Train with their latest "Drive By". In early January Avicii's "Levels" hit No.26, this week it re-peaks there, and up twelve places to No.29 are Labrinth and Tinie Tempah with the track "Earthquake".

Professor Green and Emeli Sande climb again this week, up six spots to No.34 with "Read All About it", and jumping into the Top 50 this week are Taio Cruz with "Troublemaker", up fourteen places to No.38; then re-appearing in the Top 50 and up twelve places to No.45 is Lil' Wayne with "Mirror" (former peak No.49, Nov. 2011), and right behind him is Sean Paul with "She Doesn't Mind", up seventeen places to No.46.

Usher's seventh studio album is due around May, and the first single from it is entitled "Climax", which is the highest new entry to the Top 100 this week, coming in at No.37. Also due to release a new album later in the year (their fourth) is Far East Movement, who are the other Top 50 entry of the week, coming in at No.42 with "Live My Life", this track featuring Justin Bieber as guest vocalist.

Lower 50: Skrillex also jumps up in the lower half of the chart, as "Kyoto" is up six places to a new peak of No.61. That's the only new peaking track in the 51-100 section, but some movers back up the charts includes "Sorry for Party Rocking" for LMFAO climbing fourteen places to No.62, The Jezabels "Endless Summer" is back up twenty places to No.73, and Skrillex also climbs with his older hit "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites", back up ten places to No.74.

The Glee episodes screened last Friday (24-Feb) was a Michael Jackson themed episode, of which their version of "Smooth Criminal" enters at No.59. We the Kings score their second ARIA Singles Chart entry by debuting at No.70 with "Say you like Me", and New York rapper Outasight (Richard Andrew) scores his first entry here by debuting at No.72 with "Tonight is the Night".

Further debuts come from 2007 Canadian Idol third placer Carly Rae Jepsen, whose former Canadian No.1 single "Call Me Maybe" enters at No.79. English Cristian worship leader and singer/songwriter Matt Redman debuts at No.88 with LZ7 and the song "Twenty Seven Million", and lastly US rapper Tyga scores his first chart entry in Australia by debuting at No.97 with his US No.7 hit "Rack City".

    Albums

Adele's "21" album becomes the second longest running No.1 album in ARIA Chart history (1983 to 2012), by scoring a 30th week at No.1. She now sits behind "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits which notched up 34 weeks at No.1 from May 1985. On the list of ‘Most Weeks at No.1-Albums’ in Australia, she is now equal third with The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (from Aug.1967) and then Dire Straits whilst leading the pack with 76 weeks is "The Sound of Music" Soundtrack from April 1965. Her only upcoming competition for the top spot will be the 19th of March chart when The Hilltop Hoods and Bruce Springsteen release new material on the 9th of March.

The top four albums all hold their place this week, with Lana Del Rey's "Born to Die" at No.2 for a third week, Whitney Houston's "The Ultimate Collection" at No.3 for a second week, and "Doo-Wops and Hooligans" for Bruno Mars at No.4 and now racking up its 44th week in the Top 10, and climbing a place to No.5 and scoring a new peak is Skrillex with his "Bangarang" EP.

As I mentioned above, One Direction tickets went on sale this past week, and it seems like their music has benefited this week, as their debut album "Up All Night" jumps back up seven places to No.6, and regaining two places to No.7 is 360 with "Falling and Flying". Whitney's second Top 10 entry of the week is "The Essential" which is down a place to No.7, and down two spots to No.10 is The Black Keys with their "El Camino" album.

British band (Mike Rosenberg is the only member now, formerly a five piece) Passenger land the highest new entry of the week with their fifth album "All the Little Lights", coming in at No.9. It’s their first Top 100 entry in Australia, having previously charted with none of their albums.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Ryan Adams is touring the country at the moment and appeared on Adam Hill's 'In Gordon St. Tonight' chat show this past week, all of which has helped his album "Ashes & Fire" (No.25, October 2011) to re-enter and score a new peak at No.16. Plus recent show specatular for "The Wall" helps the original 1980 Pink Floyd soundtrack to jump back forty-four places to No.20, a place it hasn't been for almost 32 years, making its last Top 20 appearance in late August 1980.

Michael Crawford's "The Story of My Life - Ultimate Collection" jumps back up ten places to No.30, and Bon Iver's recent Grammy award winning album jumps back twenty-two places to No.36, whilst his first album "For Emma, Forever Ago" (HP-32) sneaks back in at #100.

Taylor Swift kicked off her national tour of Australia in Perth this past week, and this week her third album "Speak Now" jumps back up thirty-three places to No.38, whilst her second album "Fearless" re-enters at No.82. Also climbing back into the Top 50 is Lamb of God with "Resolution", back up twelve places to No.43.

Melbourne trio Dirty Three debut at No.31 with "Toward the Low Sun", becoming their first chart entry since 2000’s “Whatever You Love, You Are” (HP-73), and it becomes their highest charting album, beating the No.44 placement of their 1998 set “Ocean Songs”. And American nu metal act Sleigh Bells debut at No.33 with their second album "Reign of Terror", surpassing the No.81 peak of their first album "Treats" from July 2010.

Lower 50: Jessie J jumps back up nineteen places to No.53 with "Who You Are", The Beatles are up twenty-eight places to No.58 with the collection "1", and Jimmy Barnes' "Hits" is back up nineteen places to No.65. Re-entries come from Steel Panther at No.64 with "Balls Out", Josh Pyke returns at No.69 with "Only Sparrows" and Damien Leith's "Roy" is back in at No.85.

The Ting Tings debut at No.51 with their second album "Sounds from Nowheresville"; their debut album “We Started Nothing” made it to its peak of No.22 in its first week on the chart back in June 2008. Olivia Newton-John's 23rd album "Grace and Gratitude" from 2006 has been re-issued as 'Grace & Gratitiude Renewed' with bonus tracks to co-incide with her new national tour of Australia.
