Australian Federal Election - Gillard wins!
- Australian Federal Election - Gillard wins!
How are they going to better themselves though ? They are poverty stricken, the majority if not all would not have any command of English, they would not know a trade so could make no contribution to Australian society, they would be on permanant drain on the taxpayer.- Australian Federal Election - Gillard wins!
Hopefully a public statement from the Australian PM stating that this is the course of action that will be taken would act as a deterrent to those that are thinking of trying to enter the country illigally like this. The PM stating this as a policy would hopefully mean that the boats will not come in the first place.- Australian Federal Election - Gillard wins!
The comment you were quoting was tongue in cheek I was not being serious, it was made non seriously as have just been watching The Running Man this morning. I don't want anyone dead, what I want is for the boat people to stop going there, they stop going there then nothing will happen to them.- Australian Federal Election - Gillard wins!
Or even better the Australian navy should make them jump into the sea 10 miles out without sinking the ship, if they navigate their way successfully through all the sharks, stingray's, jellyfish etc and make it ashore they get a visa, it would be a good challenge for them, almost like something out of The Running Man movie- Australian Federal Election - Gillard wins!
Westerners have the means and resources to enter Australia, they get the appropriate paperwork and visa's and do so legally and above board, boat people don't have the resources to live in Australia, they don't have the paperwork and the visa's so if they want to enter then tough, they are moving to Australia illegally so should respect Australian rules and stay in their own country. If Australia had a policy of sinking boats of illegal immigrants being smuggled criminally then watch the number of boats that try it on drop to zero, it would send out a message to boat people not to come. Loss of life is unfortunate but to make an omlette you have to break a few eggs.- Formula 1 Thread 2010
Exactly, Kovy is a good $h!tbox racer, firstly with Renault now with Lotus but put him in a good car he is hopelessly out of his depth, he embarrassed himself against Hamilton and Button has pushed Hamilton well close this season so it shows how weak a driver Kovy is. If Renault want to progress and become a winning team again Kovy isn't the answer IMHO- Australian Federal Election - Gillard wins!
People who try and enter Australia illegally do so at their own risk, I have no sympathy for the boat people, if the ship sinks and they all drown then it is their fault for sailing to Australia where they are not welcome and not wanted, plenty of other countries for them to go. A few boats sinking or the Australian navy sinking a few boats might deter others from going there- Australian Federal Election - Gillard wins!
I would like to see Abbott win He is strongly opposed to abortion, mass immigration and his economic policies make more sense than Gillard- Formula 1 Thread 2010
Kovy is very average IMHO, found his level at Lotus At McLaren he was hopeless so Renault can do a lot better I would go for someone like Sutil, young, fast, not quite Kubica level but would be able to give him a decent run for his money Heidfeld won't be back, apparently one of the conditions of the Pirelli deal is that he is not allowed to race in 2011 as he would have an unfair advantage of tyre understanding.- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
Yeah that's what I mean, they were guilt tripped into doing it when infact they should be doing it in the first place along with the rest of the muslim world. I have no objection to us providing doctors, nurses, medicines etc but the muslim world should pay for the bulk of the relief efforts.- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
Going back to Pakistan again and the issue of aid I see precious little aid coming from the muslim world for the flooding yet again its the west and particularly us and America who seem to be giving all the aid and money, Pakistan is a muslim nation so the muslim world should be paying for the relief, the likes of Saudi Arabia, Libya, the UAE etc are rolling in money yet we are the ones who are helping out their "brothers" while the muslim world twiddles its thumbs.- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
And get banned again ? no chance ;) But we have tried the humanistic route in Africa, massive appeals, 2 major charity concerts, the best selling record of all time yet the problem is getting worse and worse, despite Live Aid, Band Aid, Live 8 etc etc the problems in Sudan and Ethiopia are WORSE now than ever so there does come a point where you just think they are unlucky f***s and question whether it is worth throwing more and more money at something that is just getting worse. The only way of sorting out even the basics in Africa is toppling the dictatorships, jailing and executing all the corrupt officials, a massive continent wide education program especially sex education, introducing continent wide organic farming and crops that are immune from weather, so we are effectively talking about turning Africa colonial again and having the continent under white western rule, I am not convinced that that would go down too well with the human rights brigade or even the Africans themselves. Lost cause Africa is, sorry- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
Foreign aid was one of the 2 areas that were ringfenced by the government to be exempt from cuts which I am utterly opposed to. It is ridiculous that we are giving huge amounts of aid each year to places like China, China is a superpower now, one of the worlds most powerful economies, the country that owns much of America's debt, the country that is going to be the worlds dominant economy in the next decade or two and we are giving them aid, India get substantial aid, India has more billionaires thanany country in the world than America, India is a thriving tiger economy why does it need aid ? Africa is a lost cause, a wasteland of corruption, vile dictatorships etc yet we are continually throwing good money after bad at a problem and a region that is irrepairable. Foreign aid should be scrapped altogether and the money spent on UK causes, the only exceptions should be aid being given in return for British firms being awarded contracts so that we are getting something in return. it is to me outrageous that Britons are having to be hit hard in the pocket yet foreign aid is exempt from cuts.- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
Those that do genuinely want help and are showing a desire to reform I am all for helping, they are not the target, I am all for giving people a second chance, just not a third. My target is the repeat offenders, the ones that keep committing crimes when on bail, when on community orders, when on probation etc etc, they need a tough dose of prison to shock them into going straight.- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
I am generally encouraged by the start they have made, I don't feel they have gone far enough in many areas like welfare reform, foreign aid, NHS bureaucracy, nuclear weapons etc but things are heading in the right direction- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
Prison to me though should be 65% punishment and 35% reform The best way to reform someone is to make prison so tough that the criminal literally soils their boxers at the thought of going back to prison, that the criminal is shaking like a leaf when the police knock up as opposed to the current bragging about it to their mates. A criminal who upon release genuinely wants to reform should be encouraged and even helped but prison itself is too soft Jon Venables has a 36" plasma tv in his cell and a PS3, wtf ? prison is Butlins with bars atm and that needs changing drastically as there is no incentive for a criminal to reform. Prison should involve 6am squarebashing and exercise, 8 hrs a day minimum of hard work, 3-4 hours of education, meals and living conditions that fall in line with the basics of the Geneva Convention, no tv's and games consoles in cells, a tough harsh regime that makes the criminal scared to come back- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
Those type of people should not be going to prison (shop lifters, unless they have previous convictions and show no signs of reform) but prison should be automatic for violent offences, ABH/GBH, mugging etc etc, day after day I read in the papers of violent criminals being released with not even a day in prison and that is wrong. Criminal justice should have a sizeable rehabillitation/reform element to it but even more so there should be a punishment element to it aswell.- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
I am not an Osborne bummer at all, if I feel him/Cameron screw up I will rip into them but I think what they are doing is the right thing, there are several areas where I feel they have not gone far enough too, if they screw up I will be the first to criticise them on here but so far I feel they have done the right thing in putting the destruction of the deficit first- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
There is too much emphasis on promoting bad news and not enough on promoting good news It is a national trait to talk Britain down when Britain should be talked up. Take Afghanistan for example, every day we hear of dead soldiers and doom and gloom but why is there never any mention of good things ? 3 soldiers dying in a roadside bomb makes the news yet how often do the achievements of the soldiers make the news ? why is there never any mention in the media or on the news of "British soldiers killed 150 taliban today", its always focus on the negative aspects Same with the economy, spectacular rise in retail sales yesterday, barely generated a whisper in the media, when there was a spectacular fall in unemployment recently again it was barely mentioned, gets irritating when all the focus is on negativity instead of achievement.- Coalition's First 100 Days: Scorecard
Economy B - Every day there seems to be good news regarding the economy, yesterday there was a spectacular rise in retail sales for the last month which was 3 times that forecast, goods are flying off the shelves atm, the economy is growing, so despite the patient having to take some pretty unpleasant medicine it is in surprisingly good health Civil liberties A+ - Speed cameras being scrapped, elf n safety jobsworths being done away with, the ghastly "peace camp" in Central London dispersed, just 3 examples of excellent conservative policy Crime D - Very disappointing performance so far, police budgets being slashed, no new prisons being built, soft sentences for offenders, we are meant to be the party of law and order but Clarke has been just a bleeding heart do gooding liberal so far Tax/Welfare/Employment C - Large numbers of jobs are being created and there are some promising signs of welfare reform but the welfare reform doesn't go far enough, plus no promise of tax cuts when the deficit is sorted, potential but could do better Health C - The health budget has been ringfenced when there is huge amount of waste in the NHS, several layers of management that are not needed for example, the government needs to take a machete to NHS waste Education C - Doing ok but there is not enough emphasis on sport in schools, every child should do at least 5 hrs of sport a week, keeps kids healthy, promotes competitiveness and teamwork, makes them fitter thus hopefully saving the NHS money over time, this thing of people setting up their own schools is just bizarre Immigration D - It is all the well discouraging people from outside the EU from coming here and I fully support severe toughening up the rules of who can come here but Cameron is making things even worse long term by being the chief cheerleader for the ridiculous idea of Turkey joining the EU which will swell Britain up by many times the immigrants he is keeping out by the non EU crackdown, the influx of Poles and Romanians ? ain't seen nothing yet when millions of turks descend on Britain. Political reform C The changing of the constituencies to boost the conservatives is a good thing, long overdue but promising the Lib Dems a referrendum on AV was an outrage, if it gets through then we could be out of power maybe for the rest of my lifetime so while I am certain AV will never happen I am not happy about Cameron playing Russian roulette with this- Sarah Palin defends racist DJ
Brilliant reply well thought out, intelligent, articulated, adds a lot to the debate, you are a great asset to the board - Australian Federal Election - Gillard wins!
