Would you reveal your salary details?
How much I earn is a private matter for me and the taxman and no one else, it is not anyone's business how much I earn

Road-tax hike makes thousands of family cars almost
Taxes for "Chelsea Tractors" should go up to £500 or even £1000 a year and car tax for other vehicles cut

Driving lessons cost set to soar under plan to cut young
It is about time that this measure was introduced It is absolutely illogical that a 17 year old can pass a test then take his dads Ferrari out on a motorway at high speed when he has no experience of going over 30 mph barely, I don't think these measures go far enough there should be 1) A maximum cc of 1200cc for any driver under the age of 21 2) Skid pan training and wet weather training bought in as part of the test 3) A follow up test after 2 years of passing first test to ensure standards still met So what if the cost is higher and kids need more lessons, so be it, peoples lives and limbs should not come with a price tag, if a young driver can afford a car they can bloody well afford to go through the training however much it costs, automatic prison sentences should be introduced for anyone who drives illegally

labour get a thumping..... local elections
I am against the principle of over taxing the rich, apart from inherited wealth the majority of rich people in this country became rich through hard work and risk taking, I am not implying that non rich people don't work hard of course most do but punishing those that set up businesses and did well so that the less well off or the workshy can be subsidised sends out totally the wrong signals Also what taxation would you put up ? would you increase the 40% tax rate ? as well as taxing entrepreneurs that way you are also increasing the tax burden on doctors, teachers, police sergeants, nursing sisters and much more so what would be your tax policies ? please list here what you mean about taxing the "rich" as I would hardly describe the professions I listed above as rich Also by taxing entrepreneurs and risk takers through the nose we risk losing them to other countries which again sends out the wrong signals A large part of me is in favour of scrapping income tax altogether and replacing it with increased levels of VAT

My glam rock album
Yeah I gotta agree with that, while he is clearly a very unpleasant man this album is about musical achievements and whatever he has done as a man he has still achieved a lot in music so leaving him off the list on moral grounds defeats the object of this thread Chuck Berry inserted hidden cameras in toilets of his bar/hotel he owned so he could view women showering and using the toilet but leaving him off any virtual rock n roll album would be ridiculous same as Jerry Lee Lewis marrying an under age girl, while morally wrong the behaviour of Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis they are rock n roll icons same as Glitter is in MUSICAL terms a glam rock icon Leaving Glitter off the list should mean that the likes of R Kelly, Michael Jackson, Bill Wyman (had a relationship with a then under age Mandy Smith) should be excluded from any lists

God helps us... Boris Johnson is in
Boris is box office though, the likes of him get people out to vote, the number of people that turned out to vote in the mayor election was a MASSIVE increase on 2004 so it shows that the likes of Johnson get young people interested in politics as a result of his comedy shows he has been on and so on I think the fact that Johnson got people to vote who would not normally vote is a good thing for politics

teachers strike...
The whole education system needs reforming and teachers pay is one area that needs addressing but there needs to be radical changes to education, both to cut out centralised government interference but also change the whole outlook on education 1) Kids should be allowed to leave school at 14 provided they have a college place to learn a trade, reduces class sizes and the chance of disruptive kids who don't want to be there distracting those that want to learn 2) Priority in terms of top schools should go to kids of the indigenous population, it is not fair that a kid of a British taxpayer can not go to a school of their choice because an asylum seeker or polish kid has taken that place 3) The school day for kids should be increased from what it is now to 5pm, education should be about preparing kids for the world of work and very few work places have 9am-3.15pm 4) There should be at least 1 hr or PE or sport for every kid per day, physical fitness is vital given that the internet and PS3 rules so many young lives 5) The whole syllabus should change, business studies, economics should be compulsary and there should be compulsary lessons in money management, these things are far more important in the home and work place than Anne Boleyn and the great fire of London :manson: 6) ALL schools should be taken out of local authority control and each school should become a self governing trust with a chief executive appointed to manage the school finances, government grants be given to families to buy a school place but each school allowed to raise its own money on top as it sees fit, advertising in schools, product placement, direct sponsorship of schools by private companies in return for naming rights to the school so say St John's School becomes the Microsoft Academy or the O2 Academy or whatever While all this stuff is greatly off topic I believe that radical reforms of schools and education would bring extra funds to schools, lower class sizes and more money for teachers, schools should be taken out of government and local authority control

UEFA Champions League [07-08 Thread]
I am hoping Chelsea win the final so that Abramovich gets what he always wanted (a CL trophy) and gets bored and moves onto his next plaything leaving Chelsea in the $h!t Much as I loathe the bast*rds I am happy to see them win a CL if it accelerates the departure of Abramovich onto his next play thing

The Apprentice
tbf though Sara never contributes anything and doesn't pull her weight, might as well dress a mannequin up and drag it around the tasks for all the contribution Sara makes to the series While they were a bit harsh on her she needs to do more

How much should we know about the private lives of public
Please answer 4 questions, no fluff, no spin, no 10000 word dissertations, just simple basics 1) Is there anything in those comments about Hamilton being bad for F1 that in any way directly relate to the colour of his skin ? you used the Mosley comments about Hamilton in your original post which could lead to some people thinking that you think those comments by Mosley are related to the colour of Hamilton's skin 2) Do you accept that I am right that McLaren were unpunished in the first hearing of the WMSC ? and that they were only punished in the second hearing because they lied in the first, do you accept the contents of that Autosport article that states clearly that McLaren were unpunished in the first hearing ? 3) If yes then would you please tell me why Renault who were utterly honest with the WMSC should not receive the same punishment as McLaren did in the first hearing ? 4) Do you accept the comments of Jackie Stewart and Ron Dennis that the FIA rules on the strength of cockpits personally drawn up and introduced by Max Mosley and Charlie Whiting saved Heikki Kovalainen's life on Sunday ?

Why do so many people want to be middle class?
Class is not just about money, a chav winning £20m on the lottery doesn't suddenly become someone worthy of being a lord of the manor or a country gent and conniseur of fine art and fine wines, likewise a millionaire country gent who goes bankrupt doesn't suddenly become working class because he has lost his money Class is about breeding and upbringing and what environment you were born in I certainly don't relate it to money I was born in a council flat and now live what would be described as a typical middle class lifestyle but I would still refer to myself as a working class person even if I do not earn working class incomes

The rich get richer by 15%, yet the rest of us probably get
But those rich people that are in the Top 1000 or whatever bar a few that inherited money are by and large people who started companies from nothing and employ between them hundreds of thousands if not millions of Britons so I don't think their wealth should used to spit venom at them when they have achieved what they have achieved The tax system is f***ed by all means bash the tax system but its unfair to bash those that have made lots of money

Is prison life too soft?
Prisons should be tough regimes so that people are genuinely scared of the idea of going to prison The emphasis on prison should be one of hard labour, prisons should be effectively work camps where prisoners work till they drop breaking rocks or whatever but hard physical labour and basic levels of food as agreed by the Geneva Convention

Luka Modrić signed for Tottenham
And that article is completely wrong given we paid £16.8m for Marcus Bent last summer so Bent is our record signing not Modric
-
Luka Modrić signed for Tottenham
We don't need to sell, he has effectively 3 years left on his contract but we have said that any club willing to pay £40m can have him and if no one wants him then he stays :) We have no need to sell
-
Luka Modrić signed for Tottenham
We are owned by a multi billionaire called Joe Lewis 2nd only to Abramovich in terms of personal wealth of football chairmen so while he does not go mad with money like Abramovich does there is always necessary funds for any player the manager requires hence the fact we spent £40m last summer and then bought Woodgate and Hutton for £15m in Jan, Lewis will have paid for Modric too It is believed that Lewis has made available £40m this summer plus the proceeds from player sales so without Berbs that could be £50-60m and with Berbs up to £80m
-
Luka Modrić signed for Tottenham
Spurs were chasing Ronaldinho and Newcastle want him, we were chasing Modric as was Newcastle so according to a guy called dragon1 who knows everything Spurs Spurs and Newcastle did a deal where they will pull out of any interest in Modric and leave the way clear for Spurs and in return Spurs withdraw from chasing Ronaldinho to leave the way clear for Newcastle Will be ironic if they end up with neither LOL :o
-
Luka Modrić signed for Tottenham
LOL well all the ITK stuff on Spurs boards is that we pulled out of Ronaldinho in return for them to pull out for Modric so sounds like Ronaldinho will be in a Newcastle shirt next season
