  1. Even if Maggie's intentions were not aimed at raising the aspirations of women in male dominated environments it still happened by proxy as Maggie getting to be prime minister makes her the original standard bearer of "Girl Power"
  2. Your argument there is very simplistic The "I want it now" world is far more caused by 1) Celebrity culture and the obsession with celebrities 2) Reality tv shows like Big Brother where talentless wanabee's make millions which has shown youngsters that the way to fame and fortune is not hard work and studying hard at school and uni but instead getting on a reality tv show 3) The WAG culture where you can make millions shagging a footballer Hard work and setting up a business and studying hard at school has been replaced in young people by shagging footballers, getting t*ts out for lads mags and wanting to appear on shows like Big Brother Celebrity culture started in America Big Brother started in Australia Maggie can't be blamed any more than she can be blamed for the Kennedy assassination
  3. yeah I would lump that in with "Dictators" as that includes their cronies and officials But that does not explain the population explosion in Africa and AIDS and the blame for that largely falls at the feet of the catholic church
  4. Well I wasn't suggesting she get a state funeral for that  Bet you didn't know that "A Mars a day helps you work rest and play" possibly the most well known phrase in advertising history was created by Murray Walker when he was an account manager in advertising before he got into motorsport but hey you don't see me calling for him to get a state funeral
  5. Yeah when she was working as a chemist before she went into politics she headed the research team that invented Angel Delight
  6. I agree with the writer of that article, it is throwing good money after bad, Africa is a lost cause hence why I only give to charities that deal with issues in the UK The main issue for me is 2 things 1) crackpot dictators, these dictators syphon off the resources of the countries into their personal bank accounts, live in luscious palaces and drink the finest wines and foods and drive Mercedes' while their people starve, there is little or no democracy so things will not get better so long as those crackpots are in power 2) The catholic church - A succession of popes with their archaic policies on contraception have a lot of blood on their hands and are responsible largely for the population explosion, AIDS and other problems in Africa, so long as the catholic church has these views on contraception and refuses to change them the population will continue to grow in Africa and AIDS will be rife, what we need when the current dinosaur dies is a younger, forward thinking reforming pope who will change the policies on contraception Africa needs sex education and it needs condoms and so long as the pope sits on his arse with his fingers in his ears shouting out "lalalalalala" when the idea of change of policy on contraception is raised Africa will just get worse and worse and worse Africa needs rid of the dictators that are bleeding the continent dry, it needs democracy, it needs the catholic church to change its stance on contraception and it needs catholic church funded sex education programs, until it adopts those then the place is a lost cause not worthy of our money
  7. Aside from the economic successes of her premiership and creating the 4th strongest economy in the world Margaret Thatcher has done more for women than any living person Until Maggie came along a woman in a high position in industry, a woman in the boardroom, women in the very highest levels of the medical and legal professions were as common as snow in August but because of Maggie making prime minister it showed women they can succeed in male dominated environments and are more than baby and food makers and now women in boardrooms and high positions in industry is the NORM and that is thanks almost entirely to Maggie, she paved the way and transformed women in the workplace forever, the modern career woman owes everything to Maggie, she raised the aspirations of women. And she invented Angel Delight which is a food that is enjoyed by millions across the nation before she even became a politician but while that does not deserve a state funeral what she has done for women does
  8. Even aside from her economic successes like at the time of her reign record low inflation and the 4th most powerful economy in the world she is an iconic figure, longest serving prime minister of the 20th century if not ever, first prime minister to win 3 successive elections, first woman prime minister so regardless of what an anyone thinks of her she is a political colossus
  9. Liberalism has done far worse for the breakdown of society than Thatcherism The breakdown of discipline in the home and school is as a direct result of liberalism In our day if we stepped out of line in school we got caned, that was abolished so now schools and teachers have no tools to deal with unruly kids, kids have too many rights now, the abolition of the cane was a bloody disaster for the education system, the abolition of the cane was because of liberals finding supposed good in everyone In our day if we stepped out of line our parents could give us a smack, there was discipline in the home and parents were real authority figures to be respected but because of the liberal brigade parents can no longer discipline their kids in the home In our day we step out of line a cop could give us a clip round the ear and send us home now police have no power to discipline kids Liberalism has created a generation of untouchables, can't be disciplined in school, can't be disciplined at home, can't be disciplined in the laws Of course kids need protection etc but the balance created by the liberal brigade has taken things to extreme and that to me is the reason for the breakdown in society so that has nothing to do with Maggie
  10. The author might have a point but his view is extremely simplistic The main problem is not greed the main problem is the fact that kids are above the law now and can do what they want because of sandal wearing liberals stacking the system and laws in favour of the kids thus creating a generation of out of control yobs who know the law is stacked in their favour nothing to do with greed Ok bad mannered teenagers and children do not make up 100% of those that are rude in the street but schools aren't allowed to discipline kids nor are parents because of the "i'll report you to Childline" culture and that is reflected in the streets
  11. Absolutely ridiculous idea :manson: How exactly is it going to prevent knife crime during the DAY ? the majority of knife crimes take place between 4pm-7pm I read not long ago so having a 9pm curfew is going to solve nothing  Exceptionally long prison sentences and more prisons built is the answer to knife crime
  12. I would attend the lying in state too if that happened and I would certainly attend the funeral This remarkable lady deserves a grand send off when the sad day comes which hopefully won't be for a good few years yet
  13. As long as they keep their grubby mitts off Gus Poyet :)
  14. The Fugitive although its more of an action movie
  15. This is the same Iran that sponsors and funds terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah, this is the same Iran that provided weapons for the IRA, this is the same Iran that had a war with Iraq, the first 3 instances are examples of Iran being a terrorist state and terrorist states should not have weapons like that, what is stopping Iran giving a few nukes to Hamas and Hezbollah for example to set off in New York or London ? and if Iran got into another war with Iraq what would stop them using nukes against Iraq never mind Israel Iran is a rogue terrorist state they should be allowed nowhere near nuclear weapons

Deco and Lampard could have both left for nothing on Bosman's at the end of next season so can't compare that with Barry who has ages left on his contract I admire Villa's attitude, the so called "Big 4" think they can just walk in and buy anyone they want and expect the other club to roll over and tickle their tummies Utd have tried it for nearly 2 years too with Berbatov
  17. I am in 2 minds here Yes it is very greedy of them on the face of things but on the other hand they are very low paid compared with private industry The average MP I believe gets about £54,000 a year basic wage, that is less than a senior programmer would get in an IT company or a national sales manager in a medium sized business so they are pretty underpaid for the responsibilities that they actually have, even cabinet ministers get around 100k which again is less than an IT director, sales director, marketing director in private industry I would restructure things so that every MP gets a fixed salary of 100k a year and cabinet minister 200k a year but in return they give up all outside consultancies, directorships, after dinner speaking emgagements and so on

Much as he was my favourite driver aside from Kimi it got boring and repetative seeing Schumacher win 7 F1 titles and stroll to victory in most races so even though I hate McLaren it was nice to see Mika Hakkinen break up the monotony for a while and also Alonso, I feel similarly in terms of Federer

I want Nadal to win Federer is an amazing player but he has won it 5 times in a row now and it is time someone else did
  22. Yet he still stuck 2 fingers up to those very same people that cheer for him by leaving Britain for tax exile in Switzerland, those that cheered him today pay tax that keep the services of this country running, their idol pays nothing into the economy even though he earns £50m a year so as far as I am concerned he is a Swiss driver And McLaren isn't British either, it was founded by a Kiwi and is 40% owned by a German car manufacturer, 30% by the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, 20% by a Lebanese watch tycoon and 10% by Ron Dennis, McLaren are based in Britain but only 10% British So as far as I am concerned it is a Swiss driver driving for a German team
  23. This is the worst race ever :( The bast*rd not only winning by a minute but Kubica out, Massa getting no points, Ferrari destroying Kimi's race :( The cheat has this and the title sewn up way things are going :(
  24. Sex education is something that should be taught by parents It is the duty of parents to instill morality and a conscience and morals into their kids it is not the job of teachers or politicians It is the responsibility of the parents of the child, and I put the blame for the decaying society strictly on parents but teachers should not be surrogate parents
  25. Does seem a bit over the top I am all for culls of certain animals in terms of pest and population control but a mass cull of badgers does seem excessive and they are neither vermin or over populated Vaccinating cows would be far more logical
