This description instantly reminded me of the music one of my in-person friends listens to, with screamed lyrics such as 'people equal sh!t' and the like. 😅 It goes with his whole aesthetic and nihilistic viewpoints but yeah, I can only take that in small doses when it gets so extreme tbh. But I do enjoy highly abstract electronic music that seems to require a higher level of consciousness! 😅 hehe

I'm sorry about your position this time round but it doesn't have to only be fun if you're doing well ❤️ Jeez, I did very poorly this time too, it's my worst ever position in CB... and this sounds weird maybe but I almost wish I would've been last instead of you as it doesn't seem to affect me badly at all (I've come last a small handful of times in other contests). Although when I DNQ'd in the last BJSC I was definitely very disappointed, it did kinda sting... I remember the moment I found out, I was in the train station 😆 But still, it didn't stay with me for long. And maybe it could be the same for you? idk tho xo It's weird but I think it's partly because even though I tend to be quite engaged following along and posting, I also feel a sense of detachment from these contests in a way. It's interesting 🤔

Yep, I had a look at it already and I'm planning to (Had to come catch up due to having been busy typing a post elsewhere on the site that took way too long to type and is probably too long even after I was editing it meticulously for quite a while 😆 I can't help it!)

I mostly just love to immerse myself in music and sound for what it is. I'm an audiophile. But ofc there's also the emotional expression side of it which I also love. I don't feel like I'd fit neatly into any 'subculture' or whatever, BUT I am ofc drawn to some things more than others, and I've begun to make some correlations, such as: My music taste is very varied / slightly all over the place and I still get very excited about discovering new interesting stuff. Correlates with open-mindedness and tendencies towards exploration / idea-gathering. I'm also pretty 'loose' in terms of identity, as in I don't have a strong one. 😅 I do listen to more so-called 'alternative' music than pop music, although I do listen to pop too. The alt. bit probably correlates with me generally being or feeling on the outskirts of a lot of mainstream things or trends, I can be quite 'behind' with that, and often I just have no interest. I really don't deliberately reject it, but I often don't naturally blend well with it. As always, with exceptions. 😉 Sometimes when I listen to poppier music, I feel things I'm not necessarily used to feeling and it perks me up in unexpected ways. I also listen to quite a lot of atmospheric, ambient, experimental and at times 'abstract' music. I think that correlates insofar as I'm someone who enjoys my peace and quiet, setting a mood or atmosphere, to be left alone regularly to mind my own business lol, and I do also meditate when I can be bothered. I'm also very curious, and interested in unique viewpoints.

I want ART, you know? That was art. My brain turns slightly into mush when I listen to it but the track just felt like a fresh experience. 😅 (Not that I've never heard any music like that before but y'know)

Jeez, 'Anticipate' is really low right now, but sharing the number of points with me who gave it 12 haha. I kinda had some entry envy tbh, it was a very interesting and slightly ~bizarre~ entry. I was definitely intrigued and mesmerized, that's why I still get excited about music and discovering music.

Host's artist produces for Tirzah? I didn't like Tirzah's last album (although I only gave it one chance) but I love her first two, particularly Devotion I really recommend that album for an intriguing and warm electronic hug! Such a chill listen.

Don't think I'm gonna do too well, BUT it's nice to be back in this and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens. Let's make it bizarre.

(Alternative title: How do you think your music taste correlates with you as a person?) I'm sometimes quite interested in this. I think many things, including music, that we are drawn to can say things about us as people in some way. Or what do you think? Obviously most of us probably don't only listen to one kind of music but still, is there anything that sticks out to you? I will post my own one soon.

Voted! I had exactly 10 songs in my 'yes pile' (the ones I would definitely be happy to vote for) which is convenient. 😊 8 songs were in 'maybe' and 4 in 'no'. I know on SyncTube I seemed annoyed by the selection in general but only 4 in my 'no' pile after my re-listen is pretty good. (I was just getting more annoyed and weird in general as the evening went on, sorry about that, I'm a moody biatch sometimes) My song is not my favourite in this, in fact I would only rank it 7th. There are way more interesting tracks.

I'm still keen on my years-long idea of 'everyone enters two songs in one contest' 🤭 I'm just not sure if I could commit to hosting it, especially on my own. It's a very simple idea but would potentially be fun, like maybe someone comes first and last lol, or maybe someone has two songs in the top 5, etc. It would be kinda interesting to follow haha. (Maybe I should ask @Sabrewulf to host it with me lol as we're friends in-person) There was that UP vs Nuggets contest many years ago where people had two songs but those were taken from past contests.

I noticed these questions kinda stayed unanswered oops. Can't really answer the first one as I was away for a long time but one difference would be that they are themed - for example Christmas (as mentioned), Halloween, Worldvision (where everyone is assigned a place in the world and you send a song from that place), Masquerade ('masquerading' as another BJSC country by recycling a former artist of theirs), I also remember there being a country music spin-off once, a Japan vs South Korea one, an instrumentals one, a movie soundtrack one, and probably others that I can't remember right now. 😊 Another difference would be that depending on the interest in the theme, there might be slightly less people taking part so there might not be semis (I don't remember ever being part of a spin-off with semis, although I could be wrong 🤔). And people probably in general don't count their spin-off stats as part of their main entries if that makes sense, like it's kinda its own animal.

I have to consult my last.fm lol. I'm not gonna do a ranking tbh but in alphabetical order of the artist name, some of my fave releases of the year were: Erika de Casier - Lifetime Mereba - The Breeze Grew a Fire Oklou - choke enough Stereolab - Instant Holograms On Metal Film Reasons why it's so short: It seems I listened a lot more to music from previous years this year, and also not a lot stuck out when looking through my last.fm, I guess there were less new releases I listened to this year compared to previous years. Out of the four, I think Mereba's is my favourite and the one that will have the most staying power. It's a very warm, chill and comforting album. I'm not sure how many of you have heard of Mereba, but she's been quietly doing some very good music.
