  1. ^ The massive amount of radio airplay it's been getting on some radio stations, mainly Capital, is also a reason it's doing well. :lol:

     

    I agree though, it's definitely one of the best songs in the chart atm, and I really hope it gets #1. Lick Ya Down I think charted at #9 or #10, with pretty much the same promotion campaign (the only difference is that I think Lick Ya Down might've been 99p when it was released rather than 79p, but it still had the overplay, Capital sending download links to everyone, etc.) so I think that proves people are buying it because they like it, and Lick Ya Down didn't sell as much because it wasn't so liked.

    'Lick Ya Down' is on par with 'Twilight' for me. :wub: It deserved a lot better, hopefully the 59p reduction and the future album release can boost its sales and better its chart run a bit.

  2. Cover Drive are still increasing their lead over Jessie J despite being in the light red. The lead is now 33%. Plus they have a CD single out and they're advertising on Twitter for their fans to download via text message and through other sites. Hopefully they can hang on!

  3. Unless Rihanna's 'You da One' can pull it out of the bag and jump 18 places to #1? Haha

     

    Cast my vote for Guetta/Sia or Flo Rida/Sia taking the #1 spot - having them at #1 and 2 would be a dream - but Cover Drive are ruining that. Hoping to see them drop, but that's only going to happen if the #2 increases - and at the moment 'Domino' doesn't seem to be increasing. We'll see what happens with something featuring Sia overtakes Jessie J.

    Cover Drive are increasing at the same speed as David Guetta but Flo Rida is increasing at like double both of them with a massive gap to close. My bet is Flo Rida will only get to #1 come Thursday or Friday and Sunday's chart will look like this:

    2. Flo Rida ft. Sia

    3. David Guetta ft. Sia

    4. Jessie J

    In November she revealed that the album is almost complete. The lead single, produced by Stargate she described as a girlpower anthem, a 'High Road' part two but better sounds good to me! Excited! :bounce:
  5. They're doing some radio promo on Capital and KM FM today/tonight, not that it'll have much of an effect but at least they're the promoting type of artists! 'Lick Ya Down' has just re-clicked with me as a result of 'Twilight', quite a little gem as well! Both singles are quite on par with each other to be honest! :wub:

    I've been loving this for a while too. It would be sublime if it was less auto-tuned, the auto-tune is a bit grating at times but otherwise it's extremely catchy and deserves to be #1. If their album is in the same vain as 'Twilight', I'd buy it.

    One of my BJSC rejects. So glad I never entered this after all now that it's #30 on iTunes otherwise I'd be considered being uninspired but just my luck the entry I've chosen has now been added to Radio 1's playlist. :hithead:

     

    On topic, this is insanely catchy and amazing in every way. The main mix, however is the only listenable version. Hopefully a top 10 hit, looking forward to future Redlight singles as this is extremely impressive!

  8. Urgh so frustrated at YDO :rolleyes: It can be top 15 all week and yet still be #19 officially. She needed a S&M-like official remix and a major live performance to co-inside with its release but I guess it's too late for that. At least it'll have an impressive 'Te Amo'-style chart run with 200k sales...
  9. Very poor choice of single and I hope it bombs like "you da one". She should have released "where have you been" instead which will be an instant smash. She is far more suited to her dancier material than urban.

    'You Da One' hasn't bombed and this most certainly won't either. :lol: It's been more cherry-picked than the likes of 'Telephone', possibly the most cherry-picked album track ever? Rih's success is based on her urban crossover with dance and pop, all of which she is very good at it. 'Talk That Talk' will definitely be another hit for her, it's just a pity she's performing 'Princess of China' at the Grammys and not TTT or YDO...

    Rihanna is breaking records all over the place. After being crowned the biggest-selling digital artist of all time, the pop siren is now being exulted as the first female artist to reach over a billion views on VEVO. The ‘Talk That Talk’ artist has netted two billion views on the popular video site so far.

     

    Ri-Ri made the announcement of her extraordinary achievement through her Twitter page on Sunday (Jan. 22). “First chic to EVER reach 2 BILLION views on VEVO!!!! Congrats #RihannaNavy!!!! #QueenzOfVEVO,” she shouted to her Tweeples. She later added, “My fans run dis world!”

     

    Fellow pop star Justin Bieber currently holds the highest overall views at 2.3 billion, with Lady Gaga following behind as the second-ranked female at just 1.8 billion views.

     

    Among Rihanna’s most-views clips are ‘What’s My Name’ (230 million), ‘Rude Boy’ (185 million), ‘Man Down’ (133 million), ‘We Found Love’ (114 million) and ‘California King Bed’ (102 million).   11. I think it's silly to say Rihanna hasn't set any trends. The only one I can think of is the "dance first single, RnB second single" thing, but that trend is there and I thought it was universally recognised. Honestly, it's too common to be a coincidence. Right There, I'm Into You and Lay It On Me all followed dance singles in a very short period of time after Rihanna did exactly that with Only Girl and What's My Name. It would have to be an extremely bizarre coincidence for the artists behind the three singles I listed as examples not to have tried to copy RiRi's formula. However, that's pretty much where the Rihanna trendsetting ends. Collide premiered absolutely ages before We Found Love IIRC and it's not even similar. There's verses (singular?), a bridge and a chorus all of which heavily feature Leona's vocals. Alex can be accused of ripping off RiRi for sure, but the Leona comparison is bizarre and Alexis shouldn't be brought into this at all as she hasn't even done anything since We Found Love was released. I can't comment on Jessie as I haven't heard Laserlight but I can't imagine that was made with the express intention of ripping off WFL as the Who You Are re-release came out not all that long after WFL and I don't think they could have thought it up, recorded it and perfected it in such a small length of time. Besides, Jessie's too busy ripping off Katy Perry these days to even think about ripping off Rihanna!

     

    Also the (ft. producer) thing started long before We Found Love. Kelly Rowland featured Guetta on Commander in 2010 as did Flo Rida.

    I see your point with regard to 'Collide' maybe that was just coincidental then after all. I never brought Alexis Jordan in anywhere. :lol: I may sound looney here - but 'Do It Like a Dude' was written by Jessie J for Rihanna and it ended up being sung by Jessie J - was it a Rihanna reject? In all honesty with regard to 'Laserlight' it being released now and being added to her desperate re-release is a bit too suspicious. It sounds more like a leftover from 'Nothing But the Beat' than 'returning the favour', it's like Jessie J's label thought they could milk more success out of her era by copying Katy Perry ala 'Domino' and then they realized last minute that 'Laserlight' could actually be a hit after seeing how well 'We Found Love' did for Rihanna. I'd be disappointed if Alexandra loses her artist identity and goes down the same route as Jessie J just to bag a few hits.

     

    With regard to the DJ feat, yes 'Commander' and 'Club Can't Handle Me' do have them. But the songs are sung/rapped over the production right throughout apart from the intros and outros. Whereas with WFL, 'Collide' and now 'Elephant' and 'Laserlight' it is much more excessive dance and the songs are not just entirely vocals but a vocal-dance beat mix.

  12. Only Girl isn't that much different to Telephone, California Gurls etc. No-one really set any trends, it's just the way music is at this point in time. I really doubt Nicole Scherzinger, Alexandra Burke or J-Lo sit and think 'hmm Rihanna had a dance-pop lead single and then an R&B second single, I'm going to copy her'. It isn't really coincidence either, but it certainly isn't outright totally following whatever Rihanna does just to get a hit.

    'Only Girl' is a nowhere near similar to 'Telephone' or 'California Gurls'. :/ Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna are all very much different to one another and have been the biggest female pop artists over the last few years for that very reason. Other female artists who are nowhere near as influenctial and successful as the above-mentioned merely release similar material in hope of their own success.

     

    I'm not directly referring to the artists either, but moreso their success-hungry record labels.

    Rihanna is a trend setter, you can look at it anyway you want to. 'Only Girl' and 'What's My Name' did result in a lot of other female artists going down the same route in 2011 and now after 'We Found Love', other female pop artists are going down the same route as she did YET AGAIN in 2012.

     

    It's as if other female pop artists and their labels watch to see what Rihanna smashes with and then they release something similar to Rihanna's material in hope of the same success.

     

    Are you all saying it's just a coincidence?! Get real. It's plain obvious! :rolleyes:

    Ugh I'm not going to even bother arguing with delusional Alex/Jessie J/Leona loons who obviously think they are God's gift to music and that they would never be inspired by Rihanna's music when Rihanna has unarguabley been one of the most iconic and influential pop stars of the last 6 years.

    The whole "performer feat. producer" idea was not down to Rihanna and didn't become popular because of Rihanna. 'Beautiful People' and 'Give Me Everything' are two examples of a song released BEFORE 'We Found Love' that credits the producers as well as the performers.

     

    Again, 'Collide' was released BEFORE 'We Found Love' so your point is invalid.

     

    I like Rihanna but I don't stan her so hard that I start to think illogically.

     

    And Marrb, Rihanna doesn't jump on Beyonce's bandwagon. They are nothing alike musically and they have never been. Beyonce's always been retro R&B mixed with Hip-Hop while Rihanna has been reggae/dark R&B/dance-pop.

    My bandwagon point was in reference to female pop artists - Pitbull and Chris Brown are female pop artists? And my point was regarding not only 'the dj feat' aspect but a song with parts where it features more beat and production and less vocal than usual - like I said not a pop song sung fully over production. Rihanna's artist development has now resulted in other female artist jumping on her bandwagon, in the same vein the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Scherzinger, Keri Hilson jumping on the 'What's My Name' bandwagon.

     

    Perhaps you're thinking illogically? Your reading ability clearly manifests this.

     

    And your point regarding 'Collide' is incorrect. WFL and 'Collide' were released at the same time and WFL leaked before 'Collide'.

     

    And the loon accusations @ me are quite laughable when my point is 100% valid. I actually really like Alexandra Burke, Jessie J and Leona Lewis so it's not even a dig at them - merely a summary of the similarties between their music and Rihanna's music.

    Alex has done dance tracks before All Night Long and Nothing But the Girl. How can Elephant be jumping on the We Found Love bandwagon when Elephant

    is an older song that fans first heard about in August last year.

  17. Elephant doesn't even sound like WFL to me, its not jumping on the Rihanna bandwagon. Jessie J is not jumping on any bandwagon, its produced by Guetta, as she did a song for his album and he was returning the favour, its not her usual sound. Its like saying Rihanna is jumping on the bandwagon for doing WTC? because thats with Guetta, its ridicilous. Not everyone is trying to copy Rihanna and Guetta.

    'Elephant' doesn't sound too much like 'We Found Love' for me either. It sounds more like 'Where Have You Been' but is similar to WFL in structure. WFL becoming a smash has set a trend for other pop artists to adopt the 'feat. DJ/producer'/'electro house aspect to their material.

     

    When did songs with more production and beat display become popular? After WFL. All of a sudden pop artists aren't scared to release house tracks and let their producer shine as apposed to singing their whole songs over the production. The likes of 'Elephant', 'Collide' and 'Laserlight' are all examples of this.

    Alex needed to come back with a newer sound she could not stay doing bubble gum pop for this era.

    Her young fans are growing up and she needs a more adult sound. Sticking to just pop will not

    work this era. No artist development is what Kate Nash, Duffy, Pixie and The Saturdays stuck to.

    The "artist development"/jumping on Rihanna's bandwagon didn't go all to well down with Leona Lewis. 'Collide' wasn't a big hit by Leona standards and her era is a bit of a mess now as a result.

     

    Pixie and The Sats did actually have an artist development. Pixie's album is more R&B/soul-like than the poppiness of Turn It Up. And The Sats have a stronger influence of dance on their latest album.

     

    It's always a major risk unless you're Rihanna or Lady Gaga...
