ESC 2010 // The Final // Live 8pm [BST]
Rankings so far (after 12/25): 1. Azerbaijan 2. Belgium 3. Greece - The Mediterranean answer to Gogol Bordello. A very catchy tune. 8.5 4. Moldova 5. Norway 6. Ireland - I liked this more than from the Semi Final performance, but the tune is a bit too forgettable, and not a patch on her ESC winning song. 7.0 7. Belarus 8. Serbia 9. Cyprus 10. Bosnia & Herzegovina 11. Spain 12. United Kingdom - This sounds insepid dated cheese to me. We really should have sent Katie Melua - The Flood instead of a bog standard Pete Waterman song that sounds like an outtake from a late 1990s Steps album. 1.5

The weekend/weekday football thread
I've just got back from Wembley via the M4. I heard rumours that the Wembley turf won the Man Of The Match Award for Millwall. :nocheer: I'm gutted for my hometown, and for Charlie Austin. If the pitch was half decent he would have scored that equalizer no question.

Labour leadership election
Well Scott will be over the moon. Page last updated at 18:58 GMT, Saturday, 29 May 2010 19:58 UK BBC NEWS Liberal Democrat David Laws has resigned as Chief Secretary to the Treasury after admitting he claimed expenses to pay rent to his partner. Mr Laws said he would be standing down with immediate effect in a statement given at the Treasury. He had earlier apologised and said he would pay back the money which the Daily Telegraph said totalled £40,000. The Yeovil MP said he wanted to keep his relationship with James Lundie private. Mr Laws said he had informed both David Cameron and Nick Clegg, but it had been "his decision alone". Explaining his decision, he said: "I do not see how I can carry out my crucial work on the Budget and spending review while I have to deal with the private and public implications of recent revelations." Mr Laws said he had an "over-riding responsibility to those I love most and who I've exposed to scrutiny in this way," and it was time to redress that balance. He said: "I can't escape the conclusion that what I did was somehow wrong." Lib Dem Scottish Secretary Danny Alexander will take over the post, Downing Street has announced. Responding to Mr Laws' resignation letter, Prime Minister David Cameron said he was an "honourable man", adding: "I hope that, in time, you will be able to serve again." Tell me again Scott, how many fukkin Labour crooks resigned from office during the last administration for doing far less? Good to know that in 2010 homophobia in the media still rules. Calling him a c**t is as fukkin low as you can get IMHO.

Labour leadership election
So did I. As she is the only candidate that Alistair Campbell badmouthed on Question Time. Still wasn't that classy how New Labour's answer to J Edgar Hoover spitefully outed LibDem Chief Secretary to the Treasury minister David Laws on the same show before the full Daily Telegraph expenses story yesterday. What a complete and utter (insert your own choice combination of expletives).

Pete Waterman out in force yet again...
Hitman: I’ve been stabbed tvbiz@the-sun.co.uk From LEIGH HOLMWOOD in Oslo Published: Today (29th May 2010) HITMAKER Pete Waterman last night savaged critics of his Eurovision song - claiming: "The knife in my back is in up to the hilt." The incensed former Pop Idol judge wrote the tune which Brit hopeful Josh Dubovie, 19, will sing in Oslo tonight. But That Sounds Good to Me has come in for brutal criticism and bookies say no UK entry has received so little betting support. Even Pete's old Pop Idol judging pal Dr Neil Fox has branded it "an average song and an average singer". Waterman told TV Biz: "I won't be writing next year's Eurovision song. "The knife in my back is fully in - up to the hilt!" And in a broadside at radio DJ Fox, he raged: "When did he last write a f****** hit song? He can't even speak English, let alone write a hit song. "Dr Fox? He is not even a real doctor. "He doesn't know anything." Pete, 63, who has written 22 UK Number ones, added: "I love all of these guys - they've all got an opinion. Don't give us your f****** opinion. You write it! "The great thing for me is that all my life I have heard my songs are s***, so nothing changes. For me, it is about 'Would people buy it? Do people like it?' "It's not about critics - they'll never like it because of where it's come from." Pete has written million-selling No1s for international superstars like Kylie Minogue and Rick Astley. He said: "If I wrote a Kylie song now, this is what it would be. Of course the sound needs updating, but how do you update it? That was the problem. "But you can't sit down and say 'It's got to do this and it's got to do that'. It has just got to be a song." He added: "Deep down in my heart I don't care how it does. It's not about winning. "There will be 200 million people watching my song. I'll take that. That sounds good to me!" Pete said his old artists like Kylie and Rick hadn't been in touch to lend support. "No, they think we are all mad to do it. And they are probably right. But I have got broad shoulders." He also panned Eurovision for being "too arty," adding: "It's become waylaid by people trying to do well in the contest using serious artists. Hang on a minute, we're here to party! This isn't showbusiness, it's a song contest." Britain last won the contest in with Katrina and The Waves singing Love Shine A Light in 1997 - when Josh was just seven. He said last night he'd be "gutted" not to win. But he was "aware of the criticism" for Pete's song. He added: "Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you can't please everybody." Josh is in Norway with girlfriend Vicky and his parents for the contest on BBC1 tonight. He said: "Wherever I come in the competition, I am still going to be performing and smiling." Is it me, or is it frightening how arrogant and deluded Pete Waterman has become with regards to the Eurovision Song Contest?

gooddelta's Eurovision 2010 Predictions
I just don't understand the UK's (& the BBC's) attitude to the contest. With the exception of last year we have sent crap performed by has been's/never will be's in recent years to the contest, yet we arrogantly expect to do well (see Pete Waterman's Radio 2 interview today). The only year we did not do that recently was last year, and hey presto we got a decent result (for once!). It's hardly rocket science is it? I mean we don't send a pub team to represent England in the Football World Cup; yet that is exactly how we treat the ESC, and little wonder the rest of Europe is bemused by our arrogance. In my view either the UK should take the contest seriously, as most of Europe do. Or we should withdraw from the contest. And this year turning down the offer of Dramatico Records to have the UK represented by an internationally successful recording artist with a song co-penned by the multi Ivor Novello award winning Guy Chambers; produced by the Grammy Award winning William Orbit & a video directed by the legend that is Kevin Godley just sums up the UK's attitude, throwing away a surefire Top 5 finish for a bottom 5 cert.

2010 Odds Thread
Remember, Betfair odds are more generous, as they are for the win only. Hence the outsiders odds are that much more exaggerated as they won't pay out for a 2nd, 3rd (or 4th) place.

BJSC Twenty Seven < Banlist >
Either, like me they are working out which 5 to nominate from a current shortlist of 11 tracks; or maybe they would prefer to jump on entering certain songs if they are still eligible in the contest.

Pete Waterman out in force yet again...
Yes, but remember John Barrowman;'s comments on the night in 2007 Song For Europe when he adviced the public that Scooch's track would do better in the ESC than Cyndi's. (Barrowman .... shakes fist!) ... And how did Scooch's entry do in the real thing; and how did Cyndi's entry do in the runners up contest. In short the BBC and the UK General public have an outdated concept of what the ESC is about today. Hence I would imagine most of the UK general public would have thought that (appalling) The Netherlands entry this year, that failed to qualify for the Final would be the perfect ESC entry.

Pete Waterman out in force yet again...
Yep it is true, as confirmed last week by a twittering Graham Norton. After weeks earlier Katie Melua mentioned on Terry Wogan's Sunday Radio 2 show that she had offered to enter the UK at Eurovision. Hence why she (apparently) deliberately performed the "Eurovision edit" (removing a minute & a verse) of The Flood on the Graham Norton chatshow. Let's face facts only a complete moron (or a corporation who thinks its a good idea to close its best radio station BBC Radio 6Music, and thinks Reggie Yates is doing a good job with the Radio 1 Chart show) could make such an idiotic decision to enter a dated nondescript Pete Waterman song over this co-penned Guy Chambers; produced by William Orbit track): XjuPe4xc2vY
