The King of Entertainment is back for good
After having seen Robbie Williams’ opening show for his European tour in Dublin I now went for seeing him again in Hamburg. The weather was beautiful, the sun was shining from a cloudless sky. After security did their best to drive the waiting fans mad and a long distance run towards the stage, I found myself nearly in front row on the right side of the stage again. The first band appearing on stage was called Orson, who did quite well. Afterwards Basement Jaxx set the crowd on fire with a colourful and very lively performance. Their show brought everyone in good spirit and the audience was now hot for Mr. Robbie Williams.

Shortly after 8 o’clock the crowd started to run la-o-la-waves around the place to call Robbie onto stage. At 8.30 pm the firework out of the amazing stage went off and shortly afterwards Robbie appeared out of the ground, half covered by manhigh columns of steam. He started with Radio, followed by RockDJ and Tripping. You could see from the beginning that this was Robbie Williams in his best spirit. Full of self-mocking self-confidence, laughing and flirting with the crowds. Here he was again, the king of entertainment I had missed in Dublin so badly. He bit us to do a Hallelujah for him and 80.000 voices answered eagerly. What followed was a show full of jokes, flirtation with pretty girls in the audience, improvisations within his songs. He moved and danced easily, shaking his arse, pulling faces, almost making sex to the stage and the audience. He left stage twice to snuggle with his fans. First time leaning against first row, letting the girls touch and tore him. The second time he came down at my side of the stage and ran alongside to touch the hands outstretched towards him and for the blink of an eye his fingertips touched mine….
Again and again he asked the audience to sing along with him and we sang the chorus of Make me pure for him. He seemed to be quite touched by this audience who knew every word of his songs and was almost too eager to sing and celebrate with him. After Make me pure he told us, that even though he was going to go to Milan later this tour he wished the Germans would have won the Football World Championship. The crowd thanked him by singing a German Football Song for him and it was very touching to hear 80.000 ppl singing this song of going for the World Championship again in 2010. Well, Robbie stopped us, reminding us, that this was his show….

He than introduced Johnny on stage and they did Me and my shadow. Most ppl of the audience might not have known who this sympathetic youth might be but he was welcomed friendly and they did alright together. They each kicked a small football into the crowd and made a competition who was able to kick the ball over a longer distance. Johnny won and it now was 7 to 3 for him. Robbie was sad and told the audience, that Robbie was Scheiße. He tried to talk German a lot and made very funny mistakes. His favourite German word, no doubt, is Scheiße ($h!t). After that they asked the fans to sing Strong with them. While we were singing this old song of his I suddenly realised that we were doing so, not because Robbie hasn’t got any new ideas, but because after all these years he still means every word of it…

Like in Dublin he told us about meeting the members of Take That and sang Back for good for them. He, however, skipped No regrets and I wondered whether this was hopefully because he made his peace with some of the demons of his past at last.
Come undone was, again, the best song of the evening, according to my opinion. It is a great song live and he sang it with so much charisma and spirit. Did you ever realise that he never sings “So **** you all†live? The only exception I can think of is The Robbie Williams Show. Like every time I have seen him singing Come undone live, he leaves this words to the audience to sing…. After Feel he thanked the audience and disappeared into the ground again to reappear some minutes later again on top of one of the yellow arms of the stage. He waved towards the crowds and started into LMEY. This time the gondola worked perfectly and he came down onto stage safely. There were light and fire all over the stage. We then all joined into Angels, the emotional highlight of every Robbie Williams gig. This time it was followed by Kids. “You do Kylie Minogue, I do Robbie Williams!†Anytime, my love.

For the first time I went to a second gig of Robbie one day after another. So on Saturday I started to go for it again, this time in the company of my two sons. For the sake of the kids we had seats and had the most amazing view over all these ppl and Robbie was a small figure running around in the distance. I concentrated on the stage and his face on the screen. Realising for the first time that his face is shown on the screen nearly all the time. It felt oddly obtrusive to see his face often so naked with emotion, then again full of spirit and joy. If you expect it to be boring to visit two concerts one day after another you will be surprised. Though it was of course the same setlist, his jokes were different. He even asked the audience to blow at him again, like we did in Dublin. While it was quite a boring thing to do in Dublin he now told us that it feels great to get a blow job by 80.000 ppl….. I was translating most of the things he said for my boys, but had to leave some of his jokes out for not being fit for ppl under age. Out of a sudden he started to sing some lines out of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody…. His German was improving still and he had a strange little chat with Johnny. Robbie: “Alles fit im Schritt?†The audience roaring with laughter. Johnny: “What does that mean?â€. Robbie: “I don’t knowâ€â€¦â€¦ I wonder who taught him this line, which means: Is everything alright between your legs? Unfortunately this time you could see that Robbie was really sick this weekend. He told us that he got and injection the day before and I had the impression that he even had a temperature on Saturday or was full of pills to make him fit for going on stage. After Angels he wrapped himself into a German flag and told us that he was sick and going to end the show, because he must go to bed now. I do sincerely hope that he will recover soon and will be able to go for the rest of the tour in good health.

I cannot help wondering which of this tour’s songs are going to survive until he will tour again. Perhaps it’s going to be Tripping and Sin Sin Sin. Personally I would also set my bets for Make Me Pure, which is the “secret†No. 1 single of Intensive Care. By the way I believe without a doubt that he is going to tour again in a couple of years and I know that he will always be blessed with love…
