Debut Album from Marmaduke Dando
It’s as if The National’s vocalist has been replaced with the ghost of Noel Coward: Marmaduke Dando is a singer-songwriter of morose ballads and frisky drunken jigs. A young crooner with an old fashioned voice and values to match, he writes of the horrors and beauties of the modern world, and barks them back at it with his 5 piece band. Brimming with romance and spitting protest, his shows often extract references to early Scott Walker, Jacques Brel, and Kurt Weill, with the occasional histrionics being likened to Billy McKenzie. Cutting a figure like Dostoevsky as New Romantic, his rabbity chic is a sight to behold. Bred from genuine pirate ancestry, Marmaduke originally hails from the southern port of Portsmouth. Having thrown in his lot with the ocean, Marmaduke moved to London to try his luck on the cruel stages of the capital’s music scene. For the past five years now, he has been honing his sound, shuffling musicians, and pressing palms, with the aim of building a most formidable act. This year saw the band play many of the small UK festivals, including Wood, Uncivilisation, and Festibelly, to name a few. Earlier in the year, Marmaduke compered and played to the thronging masses at Secret Cinema, for the dreamy Wim Wenders classic ‘Wings of Desire’. His songs have also been set to short films, played in the Houses of Parliament, and used as an aid for aspiring Casanovas. Marmaduke’s recently released debut album, ‘Heathcliffian Surly’, is already creating a storm amongst a devoted fan base. With a tour of the provinces imminent, a recently sold out headline gig at London’s Hoxton Hall and a music video accompanying the first single “Odessa”, it will be only a matter of time before the more discerning music aficionado is acquainted with Marmaduke Dando.

George Demure - 'The Drifter' (Mahuta recordings)
George Demure - ‘The Drifter’ (Mahuta Recordings) “...George Demure is ace!” - NME “…is a delight…by turns darkly threatening and flooded with warm light..” - Time Out “…borderline genius… possibly the best leftfield pop album of 2007” – iDJ “..moody, cool electro indie..” Mixmag “..quite brilliant…” - One Week To Live MORE INFO: George Demure: ...a suave and debonair gentleman hailing from Scotland, now living and working in London. George Demure spent 10 years at the forefront of Scotland's electronic music scene before moving to London in 2002. This move prompted a rediscovery of his love for guitars as well as discovering his sensational yet elegant singing voice. Equally adept behind a bank of drum machines as he is with acoustic guitars and tambourines, George's songs demonstrate an obsessive love of music, from Charlie Feathers to Lee Perry, Throbbing Gristle to Otis Redding - and his ability to weave a particular lyrical slant in his music owes much to his love of literature. His debut LP "Boomtown Medallion" was released in October 2007 to great applause form people like the NME Timeout, Mixmag and IDJ. Three tracks were produced with Maps producer Aidan Love, and two with The Strokes producer Gordon Raphael. The single "My Baby's Gone" was released with a superb and quirky video, and follow-up single “Sorrow” sports a remix from Soft Cell’s Dave Ball. With his growing interest in multimedia performances and collaborations with new musicians, producers and directors alike, his monthly podcasts/videocasts are already the social insiders must see....... the world of George Demure just gets bigger and bigger. 2009 saw a variety of projects for George, such as a collaboration with Scratch DJ and graffiti artist Jonnie Lyle on the video “How Life Is...”, playing guitar on Ninja Tunes artist Neotropic on the “Equestrienne” LP, hosting of radio shows on Diesel:U Music (with guests like Lemon Jelly and Dot Allison), and being nominated for “Best Dressed Musician” along with Calvin Harris, Biffy Clyro, Glasvegas and The Aliens in the Scottish Style Awards. And, of course, recording his new album “The Drifter”, which is mixed by brothers Luke and Liam May (Medicine8, Black Daniel). Artwork, as usual by his life partner Laura Lees. “The Drifter” will be released on Mahuta Recordings in June 2010, preceded by the single “Liza” (b/w a cover version of “Golden Brown”). Since his live debut supporting Colder at London’s Bush Hall in 2005, he attracts growing numbers of devotees with his live performances. A host of gigs include Glastonbury (2005 and 2008’s The Guardian Lounge), performances throughout London, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh, the Tank Magazine party at the ICA in 2006, Koko, a show stopping performance at Output's 2006 Sonar Party in Barcelona, not forgetting Batofar and Le Baron in Paris earlier this year. George Demure was first featured on Output Recordings' Channel 4 Compilation with the classic "New Confrontation". A single, "The Main Attraction" was released in September 2006, one of the last ever releases on Output. Then, with Tirk Recordings, he released the New Confrontation EP, a critically acclaimed 5 tracker in December 2006. TRACKLIST: 1. The Vampire Waltz 2. Liza 3. Cold Blooded Old Times 4.
